Jobless

Tyler immediately got up as he heard the front door close.

"So?" He asked hopefully as he saw his fiancé standing at the doorway after his job interview.

Josh shook his head, sniffling as he wiped his eyes.

"Josh," Tyler said softly, walking up to his fiancé and wrapping his arms around him tightly. "Oh, Joshua, honey... don't cry."

"Nobody likes me," Josh cried into the shorter boy's shoulder. "I-I'm never gonna get hired because I have these stupid tattoos and stupid gauges and this stupid yellow hair," he cried.

"Joshua, I like you," Tyler said. "I-I like you a lot. So much that I'm engaged to you. The tattoos and the gauges and the hair make you who you are, a-and I love who you are. I love you so much."

Josh continued to sob. "I-I'm such a disappointment. I-I lost my job a-and proposed to you without even having a ring a-and I can't do anything for you a-and I'm so sorry."

"You're trying your best, baby," Tyler said as he gently rubbed Josh's back. "You're trying your very best and that's all I can ask for. D-don't worry about not having a ring, Josh. I-it's okay."

"Don't lie, Tyler," Josh sniffled. "Y-you were upset when I told you I didn't have a ring. Y-you've always dreamed of a magnificent proposal but instead I did it in a fucking parking garage b-because I'm stupid and inconsiderate a-and can't hold a job and-"

"Joshua William," Tyler said, holding Tyler's cheek so he had to look in his eyes. "You proposing to me was the best day of my life. It doesn't matter where it was or if there was a ring or not, what matters is that it was genuine and I said yes, I would marry you. I love you so much, Josh. It doesn't matter to me if you have a job or not."

"Tyler..."

"Look at us," Tyler said. "Look around. Look at this shitty apartment. We're broke, Josh. We don't have any money. We're so poor that we won't even be able to eat out on our anniversary. We're so poor that we have to share a cell phone. We're so poor that we don't even have a car. We share a bike. You proposed to me, and after I said yes you had to tell me there was no ring because the money you were going to use to buy it with went to your medication. And I'm still so, incredibly in love with you. Despite where we are right now."

Josh sniffled, pressing his forehead to Tyler's.

"I just wish I could give you more," he said softly.

"You give me all that I need," Tyler said. "Even though we can't afford to eat out, you still take me out and we walk around for dates. You come home and snuggle me every day. You write me sweet notes all the time. You kiss me and hug me and tell me you love me and show me that you love me. That's all I could ever ask for."

"I'm gonna get a job one day," Josh promised. "A-a good job. A-and I'm gonna buy you everything you could ever want, a-and I'm gonna give you the most amazing wedding and the best honeymoon a-and I'm gonna take you out on a date every night a-and it'll be like we're royalty."

Tyler smiled softly, gently kissing Josh's lips. "I love you so much, Joshua. And I know you're gonna get hired real soon. I can feel it."

Josh sniffled and nodded.

"How about you lay down on the couch? I'll make you some tea," Tyler said.

He walked with him to the couch, the taller boy lying down and looking at Tyler.

Tyler smiled softly and kissed him. "You look very handsome in your suit, by the way," he spoke gently. "I can't wait to get to wear one with you during our wedding."

He then got up and made the tea, bringing it to Josh and snuggling with him.

"I'm gonna get you an engagement ring someday," Josh said. "A-and I'm gonna propose to you again. T-this time not in a parking garage. I-I'll make it super romantic, I-I promise."

Tyler smiled softly and kissed Josh's cheek. "You don't have to, Joshie. Let's just save the money on that and put it towards the wedding."

"I-I wanna give you the engagement experience," Josh said. "T-the honeymoon phase before the honeymoon."

Tyler blushed and hugged Josh tightly. "I love you so much."

"I love you more," Josh promised.
