Husband's Daughter pt. 2
Tyler giggled as Josh kissed up and down his neck with a wide grin as they lied in bed together, the brunette unbuttoning Josh's collared shirt as they got ready to have their first time.
Then, Josh's phone rang.
"Oh, God, it's Jenna with Ruby," he said as he saw the screen, sitting up from having been on top of his new husband. "Is it okay if I take this?"
"Y-yeah, yeah," Tyler smiled and nodded.
Josh quickly answered and went into the bathroom to talk.
Tyler lied in bed waiting for Josh to return for 5, 10, 20 minutes until he got up and listened in on the conversation, hearing Josh happily chatting away with Ruby, his daughter.
He figured Josh would be done soon, so he returned to the bed and continued to wait.
Over time his eyelids got heavy, his muscles started to relax, and he was asleep.
Two hours later, Josh came out of the bathroom.
"Oh, God," he said as he saw Tyler asleep and checked the time. Had he really been in there for two and a half hours?
He decided to just let Tyler sleep, but he felt horrible. Tyler had told him how excited he was to get to have their first time on their wedding night. It was something he had looked forward to since he was young.
He had noticed how special Ty had felt at dinner that night when he had all his attention on him. It wasn't fair to him that right before they got to do the big, special thing, he stopped down and talked to his four year old for two and a half hours.
Josh changed out of his nice clothes and into sweatpants and a t shirt, crawling into bed with Tyler and falling asleep.
He woke up the next morning to find Tyler wasn't in bed with him.
He saw a note.
Josh,
I tried to wake you up to come to breakfast with me but you kept trying to hit me in your sleep so I stopped.
I'll bring you back something.
I love you,
Tyler
Josh checked the time. It was 2pm and there was a plate with some breakfast pastries on the bedside table.
Tyler must have already come back and tried to wake him then left again, forgetting to update the note.
He not only ditched Tyler on their wedding night, but almost on their first full day married, too.
He quickly changed into real clothes and called Tyler.
"Hello?" Tyler said softly.
"H-hey, baby!"
"Hi."
"What's up?" Josh asked.
"I'm at the art museum."
"I thought you wanted to go there together..."
"I tried to wake you up but you wouldn't get up," Tyler said. "And it closes tomorrow."
Josh ran his fingers through his hair frustratedly, mad at himself. "O-oh. Well, um... wanna maybe meet up for lunch?"
"I-I already had lunch," Tyler said. "Alone. I brought you back lasagna. It's in the fridge in the room."
And sure enough, when Josh opened the fridge, there was a box containing lasagna.
"Um... wanna maybe meet up and do something, then?" Josh asked. "Maybe we could go on one of those boat tour things."
"Tickets are sold out. I already checked. I woke up early this morning to go get them but they were out."
"Wanna come back here and snuggle, maybe?" Josh asked.
Tyler didn't really want to. They were in Amsterdam. Why would they spend time in the hotel room when they could be out exploring?
But he was too nice to say no.
"Ok," he said quietly.
But when he got back to the hotel room, Josh was on the phone with Ruby again.
He immediately left, Josh chasing after him.
"Daddy's gotta go, sweetheart," Josh said into the phone. "I-I Love you so much. I'll talk to you real soon."
He then hung up the call and pocketed his phone.
"Hey, baby," he said.
Tyler didn't say anything.
"Wanna go out to dinner?" Josh asked hopefully.
Tyler shrugged and nodded.
So they went out, and just as Tyler opened his mouth to say something at the restaurant, Josh was answering an incoming phone call.
"Hey, RuRu!" He smiled.
It was as if Tyler wasn't even there.
He just sat quietly in the other side of the booth, waiting for the call to end, but it didn't.
The entire meal, Josh was talking to Ruby.
"I'm going to go back to the hotel," Tyler said after he finished eating.
"What?" Josh asked, moving his phone so Ruby couldn't hear on the other line. "Babe, why?"
"Because it's obvious you don't want to spend time with me," Tyler said before getting up and hailing a cab back to the hotel.
Twenty minutes after he got there, Josh was walking in.
"Tyler, I-"
"Josh, I understand that she is your daughter," Tyler said. "I understand that this is your first time away from her and that she misses you and you miss her, but this is our honeymoon. It's the only one we get. The only week we're ever going to get while we're still young where we don't have to schedule things around work or Ruby's dance classes or preschool or anything. I-I love Ruby with all my heart, and she's my daughter now too, but I'd rather we just save the money we'd spend here if we aren't going to spend it together and just go back home."
"Baby..." Josh said.
"You ditched me on our wedding night," Tyler said. "Our wedding night, Josh. And you wouldn't get up and go with me to the museum, you wouldn't go get breakfast with me, you wouldn't do anything with me. You were on your phone the whole time at dinner acting like I wasn't even there. If that's how it's going to be, let's just go home."
"Honey," Josh said, gently taking Tyler into his arms as he noticed he was starting to cry. "I'm so sorry."
"I-it's our honeymoon, Josh," Tyler sniffled. "It's the thing I've always dreamed of but you aren't spending any time with me."
Josh hugged him tightly as he ran his fingers through his hair, calming him as he cried. "I'm so sorry, baby. I'm so, so sorry."
Tyler sniffled as he nuzzled his nose into Josh's neck, his arms tightly around him.
"Let's go do something fun," Josh said. "Right now. You and me. Let's go do something crazy that we'll never be able to do again."
Tyler just continued to cry. Josh knew that the honeymoon was important to him, but not this important to him.
The last thing anyone wanted to do was fight on their honeymoon, but here the boys were.
"24 hours in and I'm already being a god-awful husband," Josh sighed as he held Tyler tightly. "If anyone could do it, I could."
"Y-you're not being an awful husband," Tyler said softly, gently pulling back and caressing Josh's cheek with his thumb. "You're trying to be a dad while trying to be on your honeymoon, a-and that's hard."
Josh sighed and gently pressed their foreheads together. "I love you so much."
"I love you too," Tyler sniffled, gently kissing his lips.
Josh grabbed his phone and sent Jenna a text.
I won't have my phone the rest of the trip. Tell Ruby I love her and thank you again for watching her. If you need anything, call my mom.
He then shut it off and put it in the safe of their hotel room, locking it in there so he couldn't get to it.
"There," he said. "Enough time with the phone and with Ruby and more time with my beautiful, wonderful, stunning, amazing husband who is way out of my league."
Tyler smiled shyly, blushing. "Joshua..."
Josh smiled gently and walked up to Tyler, wrapping an arm around him and spinning him around before they crashed into the bed together.
Finally, Tyler would get the honeymoon he dreamed of.
