First Night Home
Tyler giggled as his husband crawled on top of him as he lied in bed.
"I'm so happy I finally got to see Ruby," Josh grinned. "But I'm even happier we've got some alone time now."
Tyler blushed and giggled as Josh kissed his neck with a wide smile, intertwining their fingers. A few minutes later, he sat up and pulled his shirt off, tossing it on the floor before continuing to kiss at his husband's neck.
"I'm gonna make tonight the best night of your life," Josh grinned. "Promise."
"You being back home and safe made it the best day of my life," Tyler said. "Next to our wedding and getting Ruby."
"Well... the best night in bed of your life," Josh smiled.
Tyler blushed deeply and giggled, nodding his head.
"Gonna make it so romantic," Josh hummed, starting to slip Tyler's shirt off of him. "Let you know just how much I love and missed you..."
Then, their bedroom door opened, and in walked Ruby, dragging her blanket behind her as she carried her teddy bear.
"Daaaaaaaddies," she hummed with a wide grin.
"Hi, RuRu," Tyler smiled, Josh having crawled off of being on top of him.
"Can I sleep in here since it's a special day?" Ruby asked.
"Actually, sweetheart, daddy and I were going to-" Josh started.
"Of course," Tyler said.
"Are you sure?" Josh asked. He knew that Tyler had been dreaming of the night Josh came home from serving in the military ever since he left a year and a half ago.
Tyler smiled and nodded. "Yeah. C'mere, princess." He lifted her onto the bed, the four year old immediately plopped herself on top of Josh.
"Daddy," she hummed with a wide smile. "I missed you sooooooooo much."
"Awwww," Josh smiled. "I missed you more, sweetheart. I always kept your picture with me."
"At school sometimes Miss Jenna would let me write you letters during nap time. Did you get them??"
Josh never got them, but he didn't want to make Ruby sad, so he went with it. "Yep! Every last one. They were super duper sweet. They made me really happy."
Ruby's smile widened, so happy that JishJish had received her letters.
"Isn't daddy beautiful?" Josh asked randomly as he looked at Tyler with Ruby in his lap.
Tyler blushed shyly. "Joshua..."
"He's real handsome," Ruby agreed.
"I got so lucky that I got to marry someone as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside," Josh continued.
Ruby snuggled up between them, kissing both their cheeks before saying she loved them and falling asleep.
"So much for our unforgettable night in bed," Josh chuckled.
"Yeah," Tyler giggled. "It's okay, though. This is a lot more memorable anyway."
"I don't understand, Ty."
"Understand what?"
"How you're so selfless," Josh said. "I spent barely any time with you today because I was playing with Ruby, and when we're finally alone, you let her join, even though you've been dreaming of being alone for a year and a half now."
"I mean... Ruby hasn't seen you in just as long as I have," Tyler replied. "She's missed you a lot, just like me. I don't feel like it'd be fair to not let her spend time with you tonight just because I wanted to be alone with you."
"I love you," Josh said. "I love you so much."
"Shhhhhh, daddies," Ruby said softly, gently putting her tiny hand over Josh's mouth. "You're bein' loud."
The boys both laughed, shaking their heads.
"How about tomorrow night we have your parents keep her?" Josh suggested.
***
"Thanks so much for keeping her on such short notice," Josh said. "I really appreciate it."
"No problem!" Kelly smiled as she held Ruby. "What're you two gonna do tonight?"
"I Uh... I don't really know yet," Josh chuckled. "I just want to do something really special for Tyler. I'm not quite sure what yet."
"Honestly, he's just so ecstatic you're home," Kelly said. "The entire night before you got back he was calling me, asking what he should wear, what he should make you for dinner, everything all the way down to whether he should leave a lamp on or off in your room for the first time you'd walk in."
"He was really that excited?" Josh smiled shyly.
"He still is that excited," Kelly said. "Even last night he kept texting me, saying he was so happy you're back and that he loves his little family more than anything."
Josh sighed with a wide smile. How did he get this lucky?
"I hope you're incredibly aware that I am completely and utterly in love with your son," he said.
"Oh, trust me," Kelly laughed. "I know."
Josh chuckled, hugging Kelly goodbye before heading to his car.
***
"Hey, baby," Josh grinned as he entered his home to see his husband cooking in the kitchen.
"Hi Joshie!" Tyler smiled, jumping into his arms.
Josh grinned as he held him, kissing his lips deeply.
"Do you know how much I love you?" He asked eventually. "Because I know how much you love me, but do you know how much I love you?"
"A lot," Tyler giggled.
"That's right," Josh grinned. "A whole frickin' lot."

That night, the boys ate dinner on the couch they had on their back patio, enjoying the warm summer night sky and each other.
After they finished, Josh took their plates inside and washed them, then he returned with a box of macaroons.
"For you, my dear," he smiled, handing them to Tyler.
"Awwww, Joshua," Tyler smiled.
"I picked them up on my way back from your mom's," Josh said.
"I haven't had these in forever," Tyler replied. "You're so sweet."
Josh kissed his cheek, holding one of his hands while Tyler used the other to feed himself and Josh the macaroons.
After they finished, they lied down together on the couch, looking up at the stars with their limbs intertwined.
"I adore you, Tyler," Josh said. "You're the best thing that's ever happened to this world and you're so sweet and funny and beautiful and kind and caring and thoughtful and smart and hardworking and I love you so much. Every day I'm reminded of how frickin' lucky I am to have you as my husband."
Tyler blushed shyly. "You're so sweet, Joshua."
"I mean it, Tyler," Josh said. "You're the sole reason I get up every morning. You're the best thing that could have ever happened to me and I can't possibly tell you enough."
Tyler turned and kissed Josh's lips softly. "I'm so happy you're home. I don't think I could have gone another day without you."
***
Josh couldn't stop grinning as he saw the soft smile on his naked husband's face, his eyes closed softly.
"Even more amazing than I remembered," Josh whispered softly as he gently caressed Tyler's side.
Tyler smiled and nodded, his eyes still closed. "I love you, Josh."
"I love you more," Josh grinned, kissing below Tyler's ear gently. "Do you need anything?"
Tyler hummed and shook his head.
The boys had forgotten how far from this earth sex could send them. They felt as if it was just them in the whole entire world, love being the reason for their existence.
Josh slipped on clothes then headed to the living room, starting a fire in the fireplace. He then went and got Tyler who had also slipped on clothes and snuggled up with him on the love seat in front of the fire.
Even though it was June, the boys loved snuggling up by fires.
They got lost in each other's eyes, falling deeper and deeper in love the longer they were in each other's arms.
"I'm so tired," Tyler giggled softly.
"Get some sleep, then, baby," Josh said.
"I don't want this moment to end," Tyler replied. "I wish we had a pause button."
"Me too, baby," Josh said. "Me too."
***
The next morning, the boys woke up on the love seat.
It was raining out.
Their favorite kind of weather.
"Good morning, beautiful," Josh smiled softly.
"G'morning, Joshua," Tyler smiled, gently kissing his lips.
"Wanna maybe bring back our engagement days?" Josh hummed. "Take a shower together?"
Tyler smiled and nodded, so off they went.
***
"Wow," Josh said as they got out of the shower and crawled into bed. "I don't think we've had shower sex since we were engaged..."
Tyler hummed, mumbling something before kissing Josh's cheek and falling asleep again.
While Tyler was asleep, Kelly called and offered to keep Ruby for another night.
As much as he desperately wanted to say yes, he said they would get her tonight. He knew that Ruby was missing him and he definitely owed her a JishJish-RuRu ice cream date.
So he went and picked her up and took her for ice cream, asking Ruby all about what he missed while he was away.
He was so incredibly happy to be home. He loved his family, and his family loved him.
That's all he would ever need.
