Engagement Party
"Joshua and I have some pretty exciting news," Tyler smiled shyly as everyone looked at him.
Josh grinned and squeezed Tyler's hand tightly. "We're engaged!"
Everyone erupted in cheers and congratulations. After everything the couple had gone through with Tyler's diagnosis, it was about time something good happened to them.
"Congratulations!" Josh's sister Ashley smiled, hugging Tyler and Josh tightly.
"I can't wait for you to be my brother!" Abigail exclaimed.
Tyler smiled and hugged both of them back before resting his head on Joshs shoulder. He was tired. Exhausted, really.
He had chemo the day before, and even though Josh said they could wait to throw the party, Tyler wanted to tell everyone tonight.
"We can go lie down, baby," Josh said softly. "Nobody'll mind."
Tyler shook his head. "We're the hosts. We can't just go to bed."
"This is an exception, baby," Josh said.
Still, Tyler refused.
"You look really good, by the way," Brendon smiled. Tyler had just buzzed his hair for treatment. He hated it, Josh insisted he was the most handsome boy ever, and everyone else said he looked good.
Still, he disagreed.
So the boys continued talking to everyone at the party, Josh making sure to check in with Tyler every so often to make sure he was feeling okay.
Eventually, he saw Tyler was starting to lose his color. He knew he had to get him to lay down.
"Hey, baby, come with me," he said, taking Tyler's hand and leading him to their bedroom.
Once they got there, Josh crawled onto bed, Tyler immediately doing the same just out of habit. He snuggled into Josh for the same reason, quickly falling asleep.
After about five minutes, Josh gently moved so he could return to the party and inform the guests of Tyler's health and treatment of everything.
"Ok, so i-it's only stage two," Josh said. "A-and hell be okay. Just, he has to be in the hospital constantly and is undergoing a thousand different treatments. Um... if I'm being honest, money's really tight right now because of all this. S-so that's hard. B-but we're making it a-and he's gonna be amazing real soon."
"We'll help pay for anything you need," Ashley's husband Andrew said.
Ashley nodded in agreement. "Anything at all."
"Same here," brendon said, his arm wrapped around Dallon.
"Anything you guys need, we're happy to pitch in," Troye said as he leaned back against his boyfriend.
And soon, everyone in the room was offering to pay for something. The treatments, rent, the wedding, the honeymoon.
"O-oh no, guys. I-I didn't mean it like that," Josh quickly said.
"Josh, look," Brendon said, patting his shoulder. "You two have had the shittiest year I have ever witnessed. I think we can all agree."
Everyone nodded their head. It had been an absolutely awful year for Josh and Tyler.
"And you two are by far the nicest, most genuine and caring people I know. And I know we can all agree on that," Brendon said. "And if any of us were in this situation, I know you'd do the same for us. And you've already done so much for us. So don't worry about expenses or anything, ok? We've all got it covered."
Josh had tears in his eyes. This was the nicest thing anyone had done for him. "T-thanks, guys."
Everyone smiled and hugged Josh, telling him to tell Tyler they would see him later before heading home.
After everyone left, Josh crawled into bed with Tyler, hugging him tightly.
"J-Joshie?" Tyler asked softly. "W-why are you crying? W-what's wrong?"
"We don't have to worry about getting evicted anymore," Josh said. "O-or paying for treatment o-or the wedding o-or anything like that."
"W-why?"
"Everyone's saying they'll pay for it."
"R-really?" Tyler asked.
Josh sniffled and nodded, holding his fiancé close. "I just hope next year is better, Ty."
"M-me too, Joshie. M-me too."
