Boyfriend's Daughter
"H-hi Joshie," Tyler said. "Ruby wanted to talk to you."
"Oooh, ok," Josh smiled.
"JishJish!!!" He suddenly heard Ruby yell into the phone.
"Hi, RuRu!" Josh exclaimed happily.
"Can you come over soon??"
"Of course!" Josh said. "Ask TyTy when I can."
"Daddyyyyy! When can JishJish come over??"
"He can come over tonight, if you want," Tyler smiled.
"JISHJISH!"
"Yes, sweetheart??"
"YOU CAN COME OVER TONIGHT!"
"Ohhh, yay!!!" Josh smiled. "Do you want me to bring snacks over?"
"Yeah!!!"
"What sounds good? We had goldfish last time. Do you want me to bring something sweet? Maybe cupcakes or something?"
Ruby gasped. "OREOS?! CAN YOU BRING OREOS, JISHJISH?! PLEASE??"
"Of course, sweetheart!"
"You're the best, JishJish!"
Josh smiled softly. "I'll be over around 6:30, ok?"
"Ok!"
"Can you hand the phone back to TyTy?"
"Ok! Bye Bye JishJish!"
"Bye, sweetheart."
"H-hi," Tyler said.
"Hi, baby," Josh smiled.
"T-thanks for coming over," Tyler said. "She's over the moon excited."
Josh smiled widely. "I can't wait. I told her I'd be there around 6:30. Is that ok?"
"Perfect. S-See you then."
"Can't wait. Love you!"
"I-I Love you more," Tyler giggled, a soft blush on his cheeks:
***
At exactly 6:30, there was a knock on the Joseph's from door.
"JishJish is here! JishJish is here!"
Tyler smiled and picked the excited girl up, carrying her to the door and opening it to find Josh balancing over a dozen packages of Oreos in his arms.
"Hey, guys!" Josh smiled. "I-I'd hug you but my hands are occupied. Can I put these down?"
Tyler giggled and nodded, allowing Josh to come inside and set all the packages down before turning and hugging both Tyler and Ruby tightly. "Hello formally, you two."
Tyler smiled and giggled as Ruby grinned widely and hugged Josh's neck tightly.
"Hi, RuRu!" He exclaimed, taking her in his arms and hugging her tightly.
"Hi JishJish!" Ruby grinned, hugging his neck tightly. "I've missed you!"
"I've missed you too!" Josh smiled. "And I missed your daddy, too," he said to Tyler, walking up to him and kissing his lips softly. "So what're we gonna do tonight?"
"We should watch movies!" Ruby said.
"Does that sound ok, Ty?" Josh asked.
Ruby absolutely loved Josh, but Josh always had to remember that Tyler was top priority. He never wanted his boyfriend to feel like he wasn't being included, because it was easy for Tyler to feel unimportant.
His ex husband was to blame for that.
"Sure," Tyler said, nodding his head.
Josh held ruby in one arm, holding Tyler's hand with the other. They all snuggled up on the couch, eating Oreos and watching Finding Nemo.
It was hard for Josh and Tyler to have a relationship while Ruby was around. They were at the point where they wanted to be touching each other all the time, but she always wanted to be in one of their laps.
And Tyler had always felt guilty having left ruby with just one daddy, even though he had to get out of the marriage for his own safety. So he often just let ruby get the attention.
Josh reached his arm up and put it around Tyler's shoulders, leaning in and mumbling into his ear. "I know finding Nemo isn't exactly the ideal movie to be watching while you're dating, but maybe after she goes to sleep we can watch something that isn't rated G," he chuckled.
Tyler smiled shyly and nodded. "O-ok."
Josh grinned widely and kissed his boyfriend's cheek. "I love you."
"I-I love you too."
"I LOVE YOU TOO!" Ruby yelled excitedly, turning around and hugging Josh's neck tightly.
Tyler sat back a little bit from Josh as he usually did. He wanted Ruby to feel special, and getting attention from Joshua did exactly that.
Josh hugged her back. He loved Ruby, he really did, but he wished Tyler wouldn't put her above himself because he felt so guilty when it wasn't at all his fault.
Ruby smiled and kissed his nose before sitting back down in his lap.
That was the other thing.
Ruby tended to show Josh more affection than she did Tyler. Joshua liked to believe that was only happening when he was around and once he left, she told Tyler she loved him and gave him hugs. But there was no way he could know for sure.
Once the movie ended, Josh spoke up. "I have an idea, RuRu. Let's tell TyTy three things we love about him. I'll go first. I love his snuggles, and how thoughtful he is, and how handsome he is."
"Um... hm. I like.... I like his name."
"What else?" Josh asked, praying she would say something.
"That's it."
Josh sighed. "Do you like... do you like his hair?"
"It's really floofy," she shrugged. "Almost too floofy."
"I-I'm gonna go catch up on some laundry," Tyler said, getting up off the couch.
"What? Baby-"
Tyler was already off to the laundry room.
"We should watch another movie, JishJish!"
"I think we should do something for TyTy," Josh said. "What would be something extra super special for him?"
"He likes crying," Ruby said.
"What does that mean?"
"I dunno. He just does it a lot so he has to like it."
"H-he cries a lot?"
"Yeah. Somethin' bout people not lovin' him 'n stuff. I try to go and tell him I love him but he always locks his door."
Josh's heart sunk.
Yet another downside to being in a relationship with someone who has a child.
There was never time to talk about each other. And every time josh would ask Tyler about himself, he'd immediately change the subject.
"What's something we could do to show him we love him?" Josh asked.
"We should go hug him," Ruby said.
"Go and give him a big long hug, ok?" He said, setting her down on the ground. "Tell him how much you love him."
Ruby nodded, waddling around to go find Tyler.
She found him sniffling as he folded laundry in his bedroom. She toddled up to him and hugged his legs tightly. "I love you, TyTy."
Tyler sniffled and nodded, gently patting her back. "I love you too."
Meanwhile, Josh was getting all Ruby's colors set up on the table so she would be occupied while he and Tyler talked privately.
"Ruby, sweetheart?" He said as he entered the room. "The coloring fairy left you something special. TyTy and I will meet you out there in a little bit."
Ruby smiled and nodded, toddling out of the room to the kitchen.
"Baby," He said, closing the door before going to wrap his arms around Tyler. "Ruby said you've been crying a lot recently and that you don't feel like anyone loves you..."
"I-it's true," Tyler sniffled with a shrug. "Nobody loves me."
"Tyler, I love you so much. More than anything in the world. So does Ruby."
"N-no she doesn't. S-she'll only say she loves me when you tell her to. W-what kind of a dad am I i-if my own daughter doesn't love me?"
"You are an amazing dad, Tyler," Josh said. "Such and amazing dad. You are always, always putting her before you. More than anyone I know. She loves you so much, Ty. She just... she forgets to say it. It's not that she doesn't, she just forgets. She's only three."
Tyler sniffled and shrugged.
"And I love you," Josh whispered into his ear. "Words cannot describe how much I love you. You are absolutely perfect. Amazing, incredible."
Tyler didn't say anything.
"Let's put her to bed so we can maybe have a little date night, yeah?"
Tyler nodded.
The boys put ruby to bed, Tyler being in charge of picking the movie while Josh cleaned up Ruby's drawings. He picked one up, smiling widely down at it.
"Ty? Ty, baby, look at this," he said, handing his boyfriend the drawing.
It was a drawing of Tyler and Ruby, ruby on Tyler's shoulders with a big heart around them, 'TyTy and RuRu' written over each figure.
Tyler held it close to his chest. He missed when he Ruby would leave a new drawing on his bed every night, but that was before Joshua came into their lives.
"I told you she loves you," Josh said, kissing his cheek. "I'm gonna pop some popcorn, ok? Get comfy."
Tyler nodded, snuggling up under the blanket and smiling shyly as his boyfriend plopped down right next to him, holding him close.
The watched a movie they wanted to watch for once, feeding each other popcorn and left over Oreos as they snuggled.
Tyler wondered what it would be like dating Josh without Ruby. He wondered if they'd be doing this kind of thing every night. He wondered if they would have had their first time yet or if they would have already been engaged.
But none of that mattered. He wouldn't trade Ruby for the world, and Joshua was like her second daddy.
"I love you, honey," Josh said. "Call me next time you feel like no one does, ok?"
Tyler nodded, snuggling more into his boyfriend. After all, he didn't get to do that kind of thing often. "I love you too."
He ended up falling asleep in Josh's lap. Josh had initially planned on just putting Tyler to bed and going home, but before he knew it, he was asleep holding Tyler as well.
It was their first time ever sleeping with each other, and Tyler had never felt so safe. And Josh had never felt something more amazing.
It definitely would not be the last time.
