Chapter 26: The Beginning of Corruption

~(Y/N)'s POV~

Fading...the voices of my Personas are hard to hear...Everything hurts...where am I? I tried opening my eyes, hearing bits and pieces of chatter. "Who....her mentor...." Was one thing. Are they looking for Izaya? "We need to keep this low profile...Hero Killer got away..." "So we....cover up..." I was so confused. "What about (Y/N)? Will she be alright?" Shoto? That was followed by silence. "...lots of blood...may not make it..." "WHAT!?" I flinched hearing the anger in Shoto's voice. "(Y/N)!" I felt someone grip my hand...so warm... "Sh-Sho?" I muttered. "I'm here...(Y/N) can you hear me?" He asked. I forced my eyes open only to be met with a pair of eyes I'd grown to love at this point. I forced a smile despite the pain. "H-hey..." I muttered. "Are you alright?" Shoto asked. I spotted a nurse and a doctor out the corner of my eye. "W-where am I?" I asked. Shoto looked at the nurse and doctor, both exiting. "(Y/N)...you lost a lot of blood fighting Stain...you're in the hospital." Shoto said softly. I chuckled a bit, eyes beginning to close. "Heh...I really should be more careful eh? Guess that explains why everything hurts like hell..." I grumbled. "(Y/N)....I'm so sorry...I should've gotten there sooner..." Shoto said. I noticed a few tears building in the corners of his eyes. I frowned a bit. "Sho...don't blame yourself...I should've been more careful. But it's okay! I'll do better next time!" I said, cracking another smile, albeit weak. His eyes flashed with even deeper pain. "...Rest now (Y/N)..." He muttered. The moment he said that my world faded to black.

~Third Person POV~

Midnight came around, nurses and doctors alike taking care of patients but letting most sleep. (Y/N) was no different. But...out of all she was the closest to death. The lose of blood was astonishing. It was a miracle she survived long enough to get to the hospital. (Y/N) was strong. Maybe one of the strongest Quirk users in many years. But her wounds were deep. The doctors were trying all they could. As the night began to grow darker, a purplish black portal opened in the corner of the room, the cameras deactivating. Three figures walked out. A tall male with spiky black hair and burn scars, a blond female with pigtails, and a shorter male with a black coat, the hood covering his face. He pulled down his hood revealing evenly split white and red hair. He walked over to (Y/N)'s side, trying to hold back his own tears. "So...you care about her a lot, eh Todoroki?" Dabi said. The male hissed a bit. "Shut up. Don't call me that. I've already told you, either call me Shoto or Nightfire. Pick one." He growled. "Riiiight." Dabi said, smirking a bit. Shoto pulled up a chair and sat next to (Y/N), grabbing her hand gently. "So...you have the serum that Sensei gave us right?" Shoto asked. Toga walked over handing Shoto the syringe. "Here you go!" She chirped. "Quiet down. Geez." Dabi growled. Shoto stared at the black serum contained in the syringe. "Sensei said...this would help heal her...right?" Shoto questioned quietly to himself. Toga and Dabi exchanged looks. Suddenly Shoto felt (Y/N)'s grip on his hand tighten. He looked at her face, noting her eyes were still closed, but a small smile made itself known. "Sho? It's you right?" She questioned quietly, her voice faint. He hesitated for a minute before responding. "Yeah...I'm here (Y/N)..." He said. Her smile grew. "A bit late isn't it? I heard a doctor mention earlier that it was midnight." She said. "How...long have you been awake?" Shoto asked, shooting a look at Dabi and Toga standing by the corner. "In and out...I feel...Sho I...." (Y/N) started shaking a bit as her grip on Shoto's hand tightened further. "Sho I...I keep feeling like I'm fading...I can barely hear the others...it's scaring me." She muttered. "It's okay (Y/N)...it's alright..." Shoto mumbled to her quietly. "Sh-Shoto...a-am I dying? E-everything hurts...I heard the nurse earlier...I...I feel so weak..." She opened her eyes a bit, tears building. "It's okay (Y/N)...I'm here...it's okay...you're not dying...I...have a medicine to give you...it should help." Shoto said. She stared at him for a bit before cracking another smile. "You're wearing the coat." She commented. "Ah...yeah I am..." Shoto said, smiling faintly at her weird jump of topic. (Y/N) closed her eyes. Releasing a shaky breath. "I...I don't believe what Darkheart said...I won't believe it...I trust you Sho..." She muttered. So...Dark already figured it out... He thought. "Sho? What's wrong? Your hand just got cold...or am I just holding your right hand?" Both began chuckling. "Ah...just out of curiosity, what was Darkheart saying?" (Y/N) shook her head carefully. "That...isn't important...H-hey Shoto?" She asked. "Yes (Y/N)?" He responded.

The female was silent for a bit, as if thinking heavily on what she wanted to say. "A-are....are heroes...good?" Shoto's eyes widened at that question. (Y/N) opened her eyes, staring at the ceiling. She sighed slowly. "...As much as I...as I don't want to admit it...Stain's words hold more ground than people might think they do...he's...right...in a way. I'm not saying what he does is morally correct. But I'm not saying he's in the wrong either." She muttered. "(Y-Y/N) what...what are you implying?" Shoto asked, attempting to hide a small smirk forming on his face. No response for a while. "...You...remember my...job?" She asked. "Yeah? What about it?" Shoto questioned. "...That job...it teaches me to be neutral...to not favor a side over the other...because if you're neutral, you get the option to see...everything...Every side of the argument...And working for both sides...meaning you're always on the winning side...no matter what...that's how I was taught...." (Y/N) said, her voice still faint. The entire room had gone completely silent, letting her speak. "I...have a confession...." (Y/N) said, tears falling from her eyes. "Sho...you've kept my job secret but I...I don't just do business with heroes...I...as you could probably guess I...I've worked with villains before as well..." She said. Shoto nodded. "It was implied." He agreed. "I-I've seen...so many different lives...of both heroes and villains....I've seen everyone's motives....I've seen...I've seen just about everything...so...if..I...if...oh God..." (Y/N)'s eyes were flooded with tears as she struggled for breath. Shoto leaned over carefully and hugged (Y/N) a little bit. Setting the syringe to the side. "Calm down...it's okay...slow down...what are you trying to say?" Shoto questioned, sitting back up, wiping away her tears. "I-if...Shoto...if heroes are...if heroes are the good side then...then why do the villains have better motives?" (Y/N) asked. Shoto was silent. "(Y/N)...I remember a while back ago...you told me that you were able to understand the motives of most villains....you've told me that villains...a lot of them come from the same situations we did...and that others were a product of being bullied and discriminated. You've told me that...despite doing bad things...they almost always have a reason behind it..." Shoto said. (Y/N)'s tears kept falling. "(Y/N)...it's okay...calm down. You're right. Hell, Stain's right. Heroes nowadays, they've forgotten what made them heroes in the first place. And (Y/N)...it's okay to realize that...But...my question for you now..." He trailed off, once again hesitating. "Do you still want to be a hero?" He asked. (Y/N) closed her eyes. "I...Shoto I honestly don't know anymore...I...I still want to protect...and make the world better...but...I'm not sure if I can still do that now...not anymore..." She said. "I...I've strayed down the darker path multiple times. The...the USJ incident...Shoto I think that was my fault. I fed the information that All Might was getting weaker. I've done illegal activities as an Info Broker. I...I'm not even apprenticing with a hero right now!" The female was full blown sobbing at this point.

Shoto leaned over and pressed his forehead to (Y/N)'s before jabbing her arm with the syringe, causing her to flinch. "It's okay (Y/N)...it's okay...don't worry about all that stuff...It's alright now..." He assured her. After injecting the serum he put the syringe down. (Y/N)'s vision grew blury. "You're so strong (Y/N)...I'm surprised Stain even managed to get a hit on you...then again, you were protecting Iida at the time...And right after a day of hard work I'd assume...considering that you rarely even sleep I assume you were running on nothing..." Shoto began to chuckle a little. "Y'know...I'd hate to see how powerful you could be if you'd sleep more and not overwork yourself." Shoto grew silent as (Y/N) grew more limp. He could tell she was passing out because her grip on his hand was beginning to loosen. "(Y/N)...." Shoto mumbled. "Heroes don't deserve your kindness. Nor your strength. You're so powerful...and you truly wish to help...but your efforts...they do no good on the side you're on currently. You aim to be the number one hero, in order to protect everyone you can. But...what if I told you there was a better way?" Shoto questioned. He pulled back a bit with a sigh. "...I think I know what Darkheart deduced. And (Y/N), if her guess was that I was a villain, she's...she's right..." He admitted. He then leaned over again and planted a kiss on her forehead. "But just because I'm a villain, doesn't mean I'm heartless or cruel...at least not to the people I love." He added. He pulled back before standing up, just as the Persona user slipped into unconsciousness. "I'm a villain (Y/N)....but I aim to reform the world...and I'd love for you to be by my side when I do..." Shoto mumbled, before slowly letting go of her hand. He flipped the hood back over his face as Kurogiri opened the portal back up. He grabbed the empty syringe and Toga 'aw'ed at him as he walked past. "Never took you for a romantic." Dabi teased. "Shut up." Shoto grumbled.

He walked through the portal and the other two followed. Letting the night carry on as normal.

~Time Skip, (Y/N)'s POV~

(Y/N) was sitting up in her hospital bed, watching the outside world from the window. To everybody's shock, (Y/N) had made a powerful and speedy recovery. The only thing left from her battle with Stain were a few scars. Some more noticeable than others. The doctors and nurses were baffled by this. But everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief hearing that she had pulled through. (Y/N) was also able to talk to her Personas again. They were all back and unharmed. Though Dragonheart had taken a few hits to the pride. But, she was able to hear them clearly. Their voices grew more separate. And she could hear them all more clearly now without their voices blending together. On the day (Y/N) was to be discharged however, a gift came in for her. A bouquet of many different flowers. There was no card. There was no tag saying who it was from. Just a wide variety of different flowers. Darkheart however could pick out the meanings of each flower. "You have roses. Obviously deep rooted passion. Love, 'I love you'. Then there are a few daisies. Loyal love, 'I will never tell'. Ooh. Gardenias! Meaning secret love and joy. Also telling the receiver that they're lovely. Purple Iris. Wisdom and compliments. Purple Lilac. I believe that means first love." Darkheart commented. "Ooh. Someone really loves you (Y/N)!~" Chibi said. "Shoto if I had to assume." Velvet said. "Heh...How romantic." She added. (Y/N) stared at the flowers. "First love...secret love...loyal love...then pure passionate love." (Y/N) mumbled to herself. "You were my first love. A person of wisdom that deserves praise and to be loved. But I kept it secret. For you were my one source of true joy. Which is why I'm loyal to you and will never reveal your secrets. I love you deeply and truly." Sky said. Everyone was silent. "What? That's what I'm gathering the meaning of all those flowers is. Honestly, the bouquet is a bit of an odd combination unless you know the meanings behind each flower. Its a message for (Y/N) that possibly only she could decipher. Because of me and Darkheart, along with Velvet who is a romance expert." Sky explained. Velvet chuckled. "The number of roses is something to pay attention to as well. Note that there resides twelve roses in this bouquet along with the other flowers. Last I was made aware, twelve roses is the ultimate declaration of love." Velvet said. (Y/N) began to blush a bit. A foggy memory of a small kiss being planted on her forehead flashing into her mind. "Hm...five different flowers. Mostly of purple, white, and red coloring." Darkheart observed. "Well if we're talking color meanings. Red is romance. Purple is royalty. White is purity or symbolizing a fresh start." Dragonheart commented. Everyone grew silent. "WHAT!? I'm allowed to know s*it!" She snapped.

(Y/N) continued staring at the flowers as she thought back to that foggy memory of Shoto's late night visit a few days prier. She blushed, but also felt tears well up in her eyes. F*ck... She thought to herself. I'm in love with him... "We already knew that dumba*s." Dragonheart grumbled. "Be easy with her! You know how Shoto being a...erm...you know how he's affecting her currently." Darkheart growled back. "THIS ISN'T JUST HARD ON HER OKAY!? WE'RE ALL AFFECTED HERE!!!" Dragonheart snapped. (Y/N) wiped her eyes but the tears kept coming. She set the flowers down on her nightstand before grabbing her coat that Iida had brought for her during a visit. She loved having it back in her hand. After changing into a fresh set of clothes a very p*ssed off Izaya brought for her, she slipped on her coat before sitting back down. Her Personas continued chatting back and forth as (Y/N) sat there, thinking to herself. She flipped the hood of her coat over her face, letting the tears fall.
