Chapter 21: Getting Settled
When I awoke I groaned and sat up slightly. "Oh you're awake." Namie said, placing a cup of tea in front of me. "The hell happened? I feel like I was hit with a bus." I grumbled. "You challenged Shizuo to a fight and he hit with a vending machine." She responded simply. "Ah. Now I remember." I said. I picked up the tea and took a few sips. "This is really good. Thank you." I said. "It's no problem. Also you might want to take it easy for a little bit. Shinra said that fortunately no sever injuries and more surprisingly no broken bones. But you are really bruised up. And those burns on your arms don't look to pleasant either." She said. "Ah the burns. Forgot about those. Guess I'm so used to burning myself at this point...." I trailed off mumbling to myself a bit. I sipped on the warm tea some more, humming slightly. "Green tea, with slightly more honey in it than normal." I said. "You can tell?" Namie questioned. "I pride myself on knowing many different types of tea. But good choice. Warm green tea with extra honey is very soothing for sore and scratchy throats. Considering how much I was shouting yesterday both here and in Musutafu it was a good call." I said. Her gaze hardened slightly. "Right. I keep forgetting that you have a Quirk." She said. I smirked at her slightly. "Annoyed?" I questioned. "Extremely." She growled. "Well don't worry about it. I plan on honing my strength here, not my Quirk. I can save that for school." I said. "Izaya was shocked that you were able to throw a vending machine and then get hit with one and come out of it with no broken bones." Namie pointed out. I smirked again. "Really now? Well I guess that's a few things that I need to thank my father for, his thick skull, endurance, and his power. Well...I guess it's not really his power anymore. I can probably do things with Shadows that he'd never in think of. I'll have to start experimenting. But not now." I said. "But my only question is how can you pick up a vending machine with one arm like Shizuo can? No normal human should be able to do that unless they have a strength enhancer Quirk. Last time I checked, you don't have that." She said. I chuckled. "I see you've thought about this. Yes. I do not possess a strength enhancer. Much like Shizu-Chan himself I was just born with that strength. I didn't find out until a lot later when I chucked a kid half way across the city. I'm not sure if Izuku and Kacchan remember that incident but it did happen. After that I learned how to hide my strength. I hid it so my father wouldn't be able to use it for himself. No one ever found out but because I hid it for so long I can't control it when I do use it. Hence why I picked a fight with Shizuo. If I can watch him fight I can learn his skills. And I find it's much easier to learn about a person when you fight them. At least that's how it always worked for me. I got to know Shoto by training and sparring with him. I got to know Kacchan by beating his a*s anytime he picked on Izuku. I understood Izuku better when I sparred with him in the ten months before the entrance exams. And even though I wouldn't call it fights me and Izaya did have arguments over the phone. We'd fight verbally since we couldn't punch or stab eachother over the phone. And I got to better understand Izaya himself through that method. You see there is always a method to my madness. You just have to let me fully explain my reasoning. If you can even follow it that is." I explained. "So, how are you feeling?" Namie questioned. "Could be better. But like I always say it could be worse." I said. That's when the door opened and Izaya strutted in. He jumped into his swivel chair and started typing away at his computers before checking his phone, then back to the computers. "Not going to question it." I said. He shot me a look and a smirk. "Ah, good morning (Y/N). Or should I say evening?" He questioned. I nodded to him. He returned to him computers and phone before asking me. "So, do you finally have an answer for me?" He questioned. "What are you talking about?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "Okay then. Since you don't remember I'll just ask you again." Izaya said. "(Y/N), do you consider yourself human? Or do you consider yourself something else?" He questioned. I leaned back on the couch setting the tea on the table. "Human? Not human? Doesn't matter to me. Either way I'm good." I said. A smirk adorned my features. "Whether or not you classify me as one of your precious humans doesn't matter. If you consider me a monster like Shizu-chan then so be it. After all I have the strength and powers of something you might consider a monster. But my intelligence far exceeds what you would expect from something like a monster from myth and legend." I said. I stood up. "Please excuse me. I'm gonna go explore Ikebukuro for a little bit. It seems interesting." I said.
And with that I grabbed my suitcase and quickly ducked inside the bathroom. I brushed out my hair, as well as the rest of my morning routine even though it was the evening. "Who's day is it?" I questioned. Darkheart appeared in the mirror. "Well yesterday was suppose to be my day, since it was Monday. It's Tuesday now so it should be Dragonheart, but I fear of what will happen if she p*sses someone off. This is a town in which not p*ssing someone off is the way to stay alive." Dark reasoned. "Hey!" Dragonheart shouted in offense, appearing next to her. "I can be non-offensive if I want to! If anything you're more likely to p*ss someone off than I am!" She argued. "Plus, it is my day! I don't care if you had to miss your day because of the f*cking Sports Festival!" She continued. "Besides, I'm not the one who typically p*sses people off. I'm the one people need to not p*ss off." She finished. The other three appeared in the mirror as well. Izaya has a large mirror. No surprise he has pretty high vanity. Sky yawned. "Dragonheart is right. As long as no one p*sses her off we should be good. She's like Shizuo in that regard." She said. "But Ikebukuro is also a place in which smarts are just as necessary as strength. And unfortunately our dear Sparky is not the sharpest knife in the drawer." Velvet argued calmly. "But Sparky has demonstrated that she can be smart in some cases. Let's not forget that." I pointed out. "Battle smart? Yes. Street smart? We don't know. Back in Musutafu all you need is a strong punch and a sharp tongue. Here a sharp tongue can get you killed, and a strong punch won't do much against an entire gang. I'm not sure if we can fight off an entire gang without revealing that we have a Quirk." Darkheart said, pushing up her glasses. "We also don't understand where everything is. We've navigated the streets of Musutafu our entire lives. But we're in a new city now. Two new cities technically." She added. "So? Now's a good time to explore. And I think Sparky can avoid conflict for a day." Chibi said. "Doubtful." Velvet and Darkheart deadpanned. "I mean this is me we're talking about." Dragonheart agreed. "Sparky I'm trying to defend you!" Chibi said, pouting. "Alright enough of this." I said. "Darkheart, Sparky, I'm putting both of you in charge. Since it's Dragonheart's day she'll be in charge. But I want Darkheart to make sure she doesn't kill anyone. Am I understood?" I questioned. "Yes ma'am." The personas all chorused. "Good. In that case let's get a move on." I said. The others all nodded. Darkheart and Dragonheart disappeared from the mirror as (Y/N) appeared in their place. I walked over to my suitcase and dug up my clothes. A red long sleeve V-neck, black sweat-pants, my hoodie of course, black sneakers, and a red head band. I tied my scarf onto my upper arm since I wasn't going to wear it around my neck. Perfect. I'd say this is plenty satisfactory. Might get a little overheated though. True, but heat doesn't bother us. Fair argument. And it's not like we'll be using our Quirk or anything. Are we at an agreement? We are. I thought. With that I closed my suitcase and walked out of the bathroom. I noticed both my phones charging on the coffee table and set my suitcase by the couch. I quickly retrieved my phones, seeing as they had full charge and teleported out.
I landed somewhere near a high school. Not one that I recognized. "We're in Ikebukro right now right nerd?" I questioned aloud, leaning on the wall as the school bell rung. Stop calling me that. I prefer Intellectual Bada*s. But yes, we should be in Ikebukro. Perhaps this is the local school. I nodded slightly. "Gotcha. Also drop the formal talk. You're sounding too much like Velvet right now." I said, slightly ticked off. Alright Sparky. I smirked a little watching the kids walk out. "Still surprises me how you can flip back and forth between talking like Velvet and then speaking normally." I said. That's when I noticed a group of three kids getting confronted by some weird b*tches. "Dark...." I trailed off. This looks like bulling to me. I'd say we have a reason to step in. But don't swing unless they swing at you. I nodded. "Understood." I said. And with that I slowly started stalking towards the group. As I got closer I noticed the group of three kids had two boys and one girl. One of the boys noticed me. He had black hair and looked somewhat normal. But I got a weird vibe from him. That's when one of the lead b*tch was raising her hand to hit the girl. I rushed forward quickly, jumping over the guard rail, and stepping in between the groups of three, catching the b*tch's wrist. "Now listen here b*tch. I don't care what the hell is going on here. I saw, and I reacted. I don't like seeing kids getting bullied if I can have a say in it." I said, cutting to the chase. She jerked her hand out of my grip. "And who the hell are you?" She questioned, glaring at me with disgust. I eyed her and her lackeys. "Geez ya'll look like a makeup bag vomited on all of you. And the hell is wrong with that one's eyes?" I questioned, eyeing the one that had no pupils or whites in her eyes, only pitch black. "I really hope those are contacts or some s*it." I said. I sighed slightly, cracking my knuckles. "Listen. You may not know me, but let me tell you this: Rule Number 1 of Ikebukro is don't p*ss off Shizuo Heiwajima right?" I asked. "Yeah that's right." The black haired guy behind me said. I smirked. "Riiiight. Now I'd say Rule Number 2 would be don't get involved with Izaya Orihara correct?" I questioned. "Truth." The blond boy behind me said. "Okay. Now imagine Izaya's smarts, tactics, and information, mixed with Shizuo's strength and anger issues." I said. I saw the three girls in front of me all visibly shiver. I grabbed the safety rail next to me and crushed it with one hand, a dark smirk adorning my features. "That's me in a nutshell. Now hurry your little b*tch a*ses down that street or so help me I will pull a f*cking Shizuo and then make your life hell as if you had messed with Izaya himself. And if you think I'm joking I'm not. Anyone here heard about the girl that picked a fight with Shizuo, got crushed with a vending machine, and lived?" I questioned. "I-I did. I saw it posted on all kinds of social media." The girl behind me said. I turned around fully and smiled at her brightly. "In that case you should recognize me instantly." I said. She gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. "Holy crap, you called Shizuo, Shizu-chan, and lived!" The blond boy said. "That I did. Like I said Izaya mixed with Shizuo, only female." I said. The black haired boy just stared at me with mouth agape. I then turned back to the b*tches to see them already running in the opposite direction. "F*cking cowards." I mumbled, pulling out my flip phone. "Do any of you know who those girls were? First and last name if you have it." I said. "Unfortunately not. But they've been bothering us for a long time now." The black haired boy said. "D*mn." I cursed, shoving my flip phone back into my pocket. I sighed, sitting down on the guard rail. "Sorry about causing a little bit of scene there. It's a force of habit I picked up since one of my friends got bullied often when we were little." I explained. "N-no. Thank you for the help." The black haired boy said, bowing to me. The other two following suit. "Please cut it with the formal crap. It makes me uncomfortable." I said. Holding up a hand for them to stop.
The all stood up and looked at me. I sweat-dropped. "Umm...What?" I questioned. "I have questions." The girl said. "Hell if I don't." The blond said. The black haired male was just silent. "First. Start off with something simple. What's your name?" The blond asked. "(Y/N). That's what I'm called." I said. "What about you?" I questioned. "Well the beautiful girl to my left is Anri Sonohara. The awkward kid to my right is Mikado Ryugamine. And I'm Kida Masaomi." The blond introduced. I stared at Ryugamine. "Is that a code name or something?" I questioned. "No, it's my actual name." He said, sweat-dropping slightly. "Ah. Don't worry. I've met some with weirder names than that." I said. "Still makes it sound like you're a character from an anime or something." I mumbled. "But it's a noble name. Be proud of it." I said. "So, (Y/N), is it true you fought Shizuo and lived? I thought only Izaya was capable of that." Masaomi said. I took my arm out of my hoodie's sleeve and slid that side of my hoodie off. I rolled up the sleeve of my shirt to revel all of the bandages. I pointed to the bandages that were visible close to my neck. "I got out of it with no broken bones surprisingly. So I'm still able to be out and about. But it's advised that I don't fight much while recovering. I'm new to Ikebukro so the only reason I'm out right now is to explore and figure out where all the cool s*it is." I said. I slid my arm back into my hoodie. I shook my head slightly. "Shizu-chan chucked a nine hundred pound vending machine at me. I was surprised I wasn't dead being honest." I said. "Shizu-chan? Wait....Only Izaya calls him that." Masaomi said. He glared at me suspiciously while holding his arms out in a T-pose and started backing himself and the others away from me. I chuckled. "Relax. I may act like Izaya but that's only because he used to be my teacher. I'm Izaya's former apprentice, but I am no longer such." I explained. "Oh. So you do know him though." Ryugamine said. "That I do. I know him quite well. But I only met him face to face yesterday. He taught me all I know over the phone." I said. "I'm basically a female Shizaya child, in the words of Shinra." I said. This caused Masaomi to burst out laughing. The other two looked confused. "So anything else you want to ask?" I questioned. "Where do you come from? You said you were new to Ikebukro." Sonohara said. "I'm sorry but you have to be at friendship level 20 to unlock my home city." I said. "What about your backstory? How'd you wind up here?" Ryugamine questioned. "Sorry. You have to be friendship level 39 to unlock my tragic backstory. Unless you have a key item called 'equally as tragic backstory'. Though only one other person had the correct 'tragic backstory' key item." I said. Masaomi started laughing again. "I like you! You have a sense of humor!" He said. "I'm basically Izaya but less f*cked up, and Shizuo but more into mind f*ckery. Like I said, Shizaya child." I stated with a shrug. "Okay, what's a Shizaya?" Ryugamine questioned. "Sweet, sweet, innocent Mikado." Masaomi said patting his shoulder. "Aw, cute. He doesn't get the shipping joke." I said, smiling brightly. "Shipping? What the...." He stopped mid sentence. "No." He said. I laughed. "No way. There's no way right?" He questioned. "Well I'm not actually. Don't get the wrong idea. It's just people often mistake me for it." I said. "Oh my God." He said, slowly sliding onto the ground. "Being honest you do kinda look like Izaya when I squint at you....Just curvy and with long hair." Masaomi said. I smacked him upside the head. "Don't ever call me curvy if you know what's good for you. I already deal with a f*cking pervert in my class. Three of them actually. So just don't if you want to f*cking keep your life intact." I hissed. He rubbed his head with a slight smile. "Noted." He said.
I looked at him, then to the other two. "You guys know this city well I'm assuming?" I questioned. "Well I do, not sure about the other two though." Masaomi said. "Cool. Hey do you think you could show me around? Izaya is too busy with...whatever he was doing when I left. And I'm not sure if I could track down Shizuo. Nor do I quite know how he feels about me yet. I don't know how to contact Celty yet, and I don't feel comfortable around Shinra. He gives me those mad doctor vibes." I said, shivering slightly. "Sure! There are lots of places I could show you!" Masaomi said. I sweat-dropped a little. "Only if the other two come along." I said. He sighed in disappointment. "Fiiiine. Anri, Mikado you don't mind tagging along do you?" Masaomi questioned. Sonohara smiled. "I'd be happy to come." She said. Ryugamine just nodded with a nervous smile. I couldn't help but let my gaze linger on him for a little. He gives me weird vibes. Yeah, me too. Let's make sure to watch him carefully. Agreed. I thought. I shook my head slightly. "In that case let's get a move on." I said cheerfully.
~Time Skip~
After a while of hanging out with Kida and the others we all had to leave. As Anri and Kida left I pulled Mikado off to the side into an alley way. "Alright. Who are you and what are your real intentions?" I questioned, glaring at him. "W-what?" He stuttered in confusion. I looked him up and down. "I'm not sure if you're really good at acting or if you have split personalities, which is it? Start talking." I hissed. He backed away from me into the wall. "I really have no idea what you're talking about!" He protested, a look of fear on his face. I scoffed a little. "Drop the act already. Lies don't work on me like they do normal people. Who are you really?" I questioned. He didn't say anything, but a look of interest shone in his eyes. I sneered a little. "I knew it. Wolf in Sheep's Clothing I suppose." I said. I shrugged, backing away from him. "Ah well. If you won't tell me yourself I'll find out later. Thanks for giving me your first and last name. Now I can dig up every last one of your dirty little secrets." I said. I winked at him. "Nice meeting you Mikado. I hope I'll see you soon." I said. And with that I walked out of the alley, leaving a very confused and possible terrified (although I doubt it), Mikado behind. I pulled out my flip phone and begun typing away at it as the sun was setting. Y'know, we make a good team nerd. Intellectual bada*s. But yes. That we do. It's been a while since we've talked one on one like this since the others came back. True. We haven't had enough time to talk since Velvet, Chibi, and Sky returned. .... Are you alright? I'm fine. It's just a little...odd... Odd how? Having my other half back. Haven't you been feeling weird since Sky came back? Now that mention it yeah. I've had my head up in the clouds a lot. ...Dark I swear, now isn't the time for jokes. Relax, this is just your punishment since I haven't been very punny lately. Can we get back on topic? I'm trying to have a normal f*cking conversation with you nerd. *Sigh* I suppose. But no. Nothing has seemed out of line since Sky has returned, at least not for me. Did something happen between you and Velvet? No. It's just....there's tension. I feel like she still hates me for what we did. You know Velvet. It may not seem like it but she has a tendency to hold a grudge. None of us know Velvet better than you Sparky. Not even (Y/N), so if it really feels like there's something between you two why don't you ask Velvet about it? I'm worried about what I'll find out. What if she really does hate me...? I stopped walking suddenly, lowering the flip phone. Dragonheart, listen to me. Velvet can never hate you. She's your other half. There's no way that she'd hold any kind of grudge against you. You shouldn't be afraid of what you'll find. Things can only get better alright? ....Fine. I suppose you have a point. Thanks for listening Dark. Anytime. I continued walking only to bump into something. "Oops. Sorry. Lost in thought." I said quickly. I looked and saw that it was Shizuo I had bumped into. "Oh. Hey Shizuo." I greeted plainly. He glared at me slightly. "What are you doing here?" He questioned. "I dunno. Walking around. Learning the lay out of the city. I'm new remember?" I questioned. I sighed slightly. "Listen, I'm not in the mood to fight right now. My injuries still need time to heal before I'm at a hundred percent." I said. "It's been advised that I don't get into any serious fights until I'm well rested. But I have trouble sitting down doing nothing unless it's playing video games, and I'm not sure if Izaya would like to hear me screaming in gamer rage so I decided might as well make use of what time I had." I said. Shizuo raised an eyebrow. "So you aren't going to be a mini-flea right now?" He questioned. I smiled a little. "Nope. I'm feeling passive today." I said. "Um...Shizuo who's this?" I eyed the guy standing next to Shizuo. "Oh. Tom, this is (Y/N), the girl I mentioned from the other day." Shizuo said. 'Tom' gave me a look and a smile. "Ah. I see. The young lady that was able to throw a vending machine at you." He said. I sweat-dropped. "That's not gonna go away anytime soon is it?" I questioned. "Give it a week." Shizuo said, lighting up a cigarette. I snickered a little. Tom extended his hand to me. "Nice to meet you (Y/N)." He said. I shook his hand. "The pleasure is mine." I said. I dropped my hand and looked at my flip phone, checking the time. "Ah, s*it. It is getting a bit late. I should head back soon before Izaya thinks I got kidnapped or some s*it. Then again he knows very well I wouldn't go down without a commotion. Maybe I can stay out a little while longer. I'm still trying to figure out where everything is after all. Ugh, so many choices, so many things to do." I mumbled to myself. I scratched my head slightly and continued mumbling to myself about what I should do. Shizuo exchanged a look with Tom before tapping my shoulder. "Umm. Mini-flea you alright there?" Shizuo questioned. I snapped back into reality. "Ah right. Sorry about that. Guess I picked up the mumbling habit from my friend." I apologized, scratching the back of my neck with a smile. "But yeah. I should be heading out before it gets too dark." I said, dropping my hand. Shizuo nodded to me before ruffling my hair with a smile. "Well if you're ever in the mood to fight just come find me." He said. I smiled back. "I'll make sure to do that." I said. With that I walked away and ducked into an alley, teleporting back to see Izaya at his desk with a look of panic on his face, that vanished the moment he saw me. "Oh. So you aren't dead." He said. I raised an eyebrow. "Did you honestly think I'd be taken down that easily?" I questioned. "Welllllll...." He trailed off, sweat-dropping slightly. "More like I was worried about you possible killing someone." He said. I glared at him finding this a little suspicious. "Uh-hu. Suuuure. I won't question it for now, but is there something you want to tell me?" I questioned. Izaya broke into a cold sweat but just shrugged it off. "Just make sure you come back before dark. That way I'll know if you died or got kidnapped." He said. I raised an eyebrow. "Are you setting a curfew for me?" I questioned. "It's not a curfew. Just something for me to tell if you've been kidnapped or if you died or something." Izaya said. "So basically a curfew." I said. Izaya sighed slightly. "Call it what you will. By the way I moved all your stuff to the guest room." He said, pointing to a door to the right of the bathroom. "Ah. Thanks." I said before yawning slightly. "Well...Imma go sleep now. Talk to ya' in the morning." I said waving to Izaya before going inside the room. I collapsed onto the bed not even bothering with anything else.
I'm opening a Q and A. If you want to get to know your personas better or if you just want to ask a certain character a question then please do so in the comments. Once I gather enough questions then I'll put them at the end of the chapter. I won't specify where the question came from but you should recognize your own question. You can ask multiple questions too. I don't care if the questions come from just one person. I really don't. I just want to do something like this. Anyways, don't forget to soar high and roar my dragon army. BYE!~
