Chapter 3

There was a funeral the next week. Mikasa wasnt able to go because it had to be family members, but she really wanted to comfort her new friend.

Unfortunately, she was never able to.

After the funeral, the family got word the Jaeger's had moved far away.

To say the least, Mikasa was devastated. Her only friend (granted they knew each other for only a few minutes) had just moved away.

She cried the night after. Why did the bad guy have to kill Eren's mom? She though to herself. She rolled over in bed the whole night, unable to sleep.

The next morning, and the following mornings after, she did what she had done before she had met Eren. She worked on her garden, kept to herself, rarely talking to the maids, butlers, or her parents, unless asked to. After she worked on her garden, she went inside and sat in her room, playing with toys and watching tv. Then she went to sleep.

Sometimes, she'd think about what happened to Eren. Sometimes she'd think about their brief moments together. It confused her. She barely knew him, yet thought a lot about him.

Was it pity? Was it curiousity?

Mikasa had no idea.

Day after day went by, week after week, then month after month, and finally years went by.

Mikasa's daily routine was the only thing that didn't change much, only adding studying to the mix. Other than that she still kept to herself and did her gardening.

Mikasa had changed though, physically. She had grown taller, though still relatively short, and her hair had grown to waist length. Her body had slimmed down, and her feminine features were now more than pronounced. Catcalls were common in school, but she never responded, always distant.

She eventually met a boy she felt a slight bit of attraction to.

His name was Jean, and he was a bit of a wuss, but he was a good guy nevertheless. Always kept his head held high and would protect her.

They got to know each other better, and became friends. Eventually they even started dating.

By this point, Mikasa had basically forgotten about Eren. He was hardly a thought, though every now and then she had some dreams about that day they met, but she thought nothing of it.

Eren on the other hand, wasn't living so high and mighty.

His once extreme temperament was gone. It was replaced by a shell of its former self. He had been broken by his mothers death. His fighting will never returned, even after all his tears had been shed.

He moved to a school far away from the place his mother had been killed. It was much colder up north. It was filled with lakes that froze solid in the winter, and looked beautiful in the winter. He had never seen snow until he moved. He became quite intrigued by snow, and always went to play in it in the winter.

His schedule changed drastically. His fathers new job was mostly the same, go visit patients, test them for sicknesses, yadda yadda, but Eren no longer played with people anymore, other than sports. He wasn't good at school, being a C average student, and never anything more.

He was always alone, but he happened to be the star wide receiver for his High School team, setting the schools records for receiving yards and receiving Touchdowns in a career.

Despite this, he wasn't very popular. It wasn't for a lack of talent, as his teammates looked up to him, but it was for a lack of consciousness. He always seemed to be inside his own mind, subconscious, and never fully conscious.

It was rumored by his teammates he never talked to the team once, never even nodding his head, just doing as he was told, like a robot. He was known as "The Automatic" for this rumor.

Outside of football, he sat at home, kicked footballs, and played by himself, on his phone or otherwise.

Unlike Mikasa, he never met anyone special, just choosing to be alone.

After his high school days were over, he got scholarship offers from the big-name DI Colleges, for his amazing football play. He eventually chose one, close to his place of birth after a nudge by his father to maybe revisit their old house if he chose that college.

Mikasa meanwhile, had amazing grades, and her parents admitted her to an amazing college. Her parents paid for it with their mass amount of money. Jean earned a scholarship through football and went there as well.

What they didn't realize?

Eren and Mikasa were admitted to the same college.

...

Ring Ring Ring

The bell rang, and classes were let out. The classes of students flooded the halls, thousands of angsty, smelly, teenagers, started talking at once. School was over for the day and no one would be stopped from talking now.

As Eren headed out, he caught a glimpse of his teacher, Ms. Hange, waving to him hysterically, smiling like an idiot. He mentally facepalmed. He had known her for three days and she already came off as insane. He walked over to her, and she took his hand. She pulled him into her classroom, and pointed to a chair. He sat down and looked up at her

She wasn't smiling anymore.

"Eren, I've already known you for three days and then pure already failing my class. You need to turn the assignment in done all the way for full points!" She picked a paper up off her desk and shoved it in his face. "You did three of twenty-five questions Eren. Three!" She shook her head. "You can't play football if you fail a class." Eren looked down, not really ashamed, just kinda ignoring her.

"Are you even listening to-" She started, before the door shot open.

"Finally." Eren thought. He pulled his long hair up into a man bun and started to stand up to head for the door, but he caught a glimpse of the women who had entered the room. Instead of standing up, he decided to stay seated.

The girl looked familiar. Her black hair flowed in a similar fashion of an old acquaintance. Her face looked similar as well, a little on the chubby side, and she seemed to have a shy demeanor. He couldn't shake their similarities, but it couldn't be her, could it?

"Ms. Hange, if you don't mind, would you help me with this problem?" She asked frantically. Hange lost her angry fire, and seemed to soften up.

"Of course honey." Hange whispered. She gave Eren the death stare. He got the message and stood up to leave, as he left the room, he heard Ms. Hange say, "Goodbye Eren." And he left.

What he didn't notice, was the girls ears perk up at the name of Eren.
