The Fall of Shiganshina, Pt 1
Y/N Pov:
"Daddy... I'm scared" You looked over to your father, as he stood on the porch of your ranch. Your grip on the reigns tightening more and more each second, your mind begging you not to look down, from the high horse.
Your father chuckled as he walked over to you "There's no need to be scared ... You've got your wings remember-"

"Harken! These walls are a bulwark gifted by God! Riven Rock? Stone? Mortar.."
You never paid much attention to the men that babble along down these streets. A gift by the Gods? Silly to think that the one that placed the titans upon you and everyone you love would offer any form of salvation.
"They are bastions of faith! The will of heaven manifest!"
It's been a hundred years since the last titan attack, but that doesn't mean that we are safe. You thought to your self.
You sighed as your head lifted up from your book, your eyes now locked onto the bright blue sky. You reached into your pocket and pulled out a drawing. Gazing at it as you run your fingers along its tattered edges. Tears forming in your eyes as you sighed
I miss you, dad... It had only been a week since you'd last seen him. Though it felt like a lifetime. Your heart ached as you missed him terribly.
"You dont need to cry." a soft voice snaps you out of your thoughts, you look up to see your friends, Mikasa and Eren back from their trip, carrying sticks on their backs. "Mikasa, Eren! Wait up!" You quickly shut your book, placing the drawing in between the pages as you rushed over to the pair. Eren turned his back and greeted you with a warm smile.
"Hey y/n!"
Mikasa only gazed in your direction. It wasn't uncommon for her to do this, she'd only been in town for about a year and still wasn't used to many people. One things for sure though, if you saw Eren, Mikasa wasn't too far behind.
You'd grown acustom to her always following the two of you around. Her presence reminding you of how you were when you had come to know the Jaegers. You had been staying with them, on and off, for a few years now. Whenever your father had to go on missions the Jeager family was more than happy to help you out. They were like a second family.
"What's up?" Eren smiled as you all continued walking, the hollow clanking sounds alerting you to the cages that rest on their backs. You shrugged your shoulders, as you gazed at the firewood. Though Eren looked like he was haluing the greatest load, Mikasa had greatly surpassed him. Though her boy language showed no effort of such a feet.
"I see Mikasa did the majority of the work today too," you smile looking at the load of firewood resting on their backs. "I get that she's strong but ya shouldn't leave all your work to her"
A faint smile appears on her lips. It was rare that Mikasa showed any emotion towards anyone other than Eren, so her small display of affection sent waves through your body.
"Hey! I did help! " He gestures to the stack of firewood. Mikasa smirked, a playful glint resting in her eyes as she began to mock Eren behind his back. It was nice, seeing her transform from bodyguard to child like in the spur of the moment. You laughed softly, earning a confused look from Eren. Suddenly Mikasa stopped in her tracks, the soft smile slowly fading from her lips.
You tured you head, seeing two Garrison soliders looking down at the three of you.. You had no clue who he was, but it seemed Eren knew all too well, his lips culred into a from, his brows furrowed as he looked up into his eyes. e
Well...that moment of peace didn't last very long...
."Hey Mr. Hannes"
Hannes? So this is the soldier my father speaks of. I've heard many stories of how he was the best soldier in training, almost everyone looked up to him, unfortunately, he doesn't match the likeness of the man my father grew so fond of...
"So somebody bothering you, or did you end up on Mikasa's bad side." He leaned in closer to us, the smell of booze ran off him and hit you in the face, he reeked of vodka and ale.
" Aren't you all supposed to be on watch duty?" Eren tilted his head in confusion.
"Yep" He stretches, he stumbles back a bit.
God how much has this man had to drink.
" We're watching the gate, but there's only so much we can do, why not kick back and have a little fun. Perks of being a guard. "
You could feel Eren shaking next to you, the words of the soldier cutting deep. " How in the hell, do you expect to fight if you're so loose on your feet?!"
"huh? Now why on earth would I have to fight?"
" Why do you think? What if they break through the walls!" Eren screamed at the man. The people around began to stare, some concerned, others annoyed that children would dare think that they knew better than a General Garrison.
" Listen, the only thing they've been able to do to the wall in the past hundred years it scratch at it. I have a feeling if they manage to break through we'll be ready for em." He was cocky, arrogant, and filled with liquid pride.
You felt anger running through your veins as you fought to remain your composure "The hope of humanity is chalked up to one measly feeling? What have any of you done to actually prepare for any of them! My father says you have to stay sharp or there's no way we can win!
"Gosh, you sound just like your old man, always talking about how we should live our lives to save the people. That man really is a lunatic. No wonder he joined the Scouts."
"Shut your mouth. You don't know what it's like do you.. to sit helplessly as your family and friends are sent to their deaths... My father is risking his life so scum like you can relish in your comfort!"
The officier fell silent, while the others grew more impatient with you. But you couldn't stop, words overflowed from your lips, though now it all came off as a light mumble.
"He the could never understand how you people are so content with this life. We're trapped. We pray each day that it's not the day we die...That's it..." Your fists balled, nails digging into the palms of your hands. Tears well up in your eyes as your forcefully blink them away.
"We have the mindset of livestock..." Eren chimmed in, causing your head to poke up from your shoulders.
Eren stares down at the ground his hands gripping at the strings hung over his shoulders. Hannes didn't say anything after that, he just gazed down at the three of you. This stare was unlike his drunkin' one from earlier. It was softer, almost comforting. But the moment was ruined the moment his drunken friends opened their mouths.
"Well dont you little ones worry. I'm sure we can handle it even better then those scouts. At least we have something to show for our work right gentlemen?" He laughed. He stared down into your face and mocked you.
You scoffed, not wanting to hear anymore of the conversation. You left. You could see it, the reason why everyone thought so horribly of the force. 'Freeloaders .. the lot of em.' How could your father get mixed up with them.. He was nothing like them.
How dare he.., the scouts are out there losing everything and all they can do is sit on their asses... disgraceful. The more you dwelled on the thought the angrier you became. You always had the worst temper in your family, and now the beast was baring it's teeth.
You mumbled "How dare they. those bast-"
A loud ringing snapped you from your thoughts. What the hell?
Your head turned, eyes scanning the area. You were only met with confusion.
'Why does that bell sound so familiar..' You thought long and hard on what it could possibly be. Until it hit you. Your eyes widened as tears filled your eyes once more.
It was the city bell signaling the scouts' return.
"Dad!"
You drop your things and ran, fast. Running through the stairs, the ally ways, practically pushing any and everyone out of your way. People complained but you couldnt stop. Your legs wouldn't allow you to, it'd been so long.
"Sorry!" You yelled absent mindly as you pushed on.
Daddy!
Your body stopped in front of the main gate. Exhuasted, you braced yourself as you dropped to the floor. Your chest rising and falling as you forced yourself to look onward. The adrenaline rush finally leaving your body.
You made it. People lined the streets to greet the Scouts as they arrive, Wives, Mothers, and children all waited excitedly. Soon the gate opened up and the scouts came pouring in...
Your eyes widened in horror as you see the faces of the injured and defeated men. No one could imagine the horrid things they saw. " Wow.." Their eyes remained focused on the ground, avoiding the disappointed eyes of the townspeople.Their looks of angusihed remained for only a momment, as they quickly moved towards their families. Engulfing eachother in tight hugs, tears streaming down their face. it warmed your heart..
"This is what we wasted our tax dollars on.."
"The rest of them got eaten, that's what happens"
"Titan Fodder.."
Their words played in your mind.. How could someone be so cruel to the people who are trying to save them..
The last of the scouts piled in as the gates shut behind them. Most moving towards their families, you watched every last one greet their loved ones, with open arms. As if they hadnt seen eachother in years. Smiling you pulled your attention back to the stragglers, scanning their blank faces. But for some reason, your father's face nowhere to be seen in the crowd of broken men and women.
"Dad... Dad!" you ran through the crowd approaching one of the soldiers. He looked down at you, unfazed by your presence, his eyes focused on your face and widen in horror as he recognized your features...
Fear filled your body as I looked up at him. "I'm sorry but where's my dad.. he should be with you all.."
The soldier looked towards the ground tears filling his eyes as he shook his head. You could feel your heart stop, your legs felt stiff and weak as gravity pulled you to the ground. "No... it's impossible he can't be gone.. he promised me he'd be back.."
"Your father was a good man.."
"Cut the crap.." You stare at the man as tears pour out of your eyes, finally allowing yourself to break "My father died because of you... You sent him to his death." You took a sharp breath as you forced yourself to stand. His eyes remained on you, or rather they looked through you. The thought of facing you head on must have been too real for him, but what about you..?
A god huh? is this how you treat your people... trap them in a life of enteral wait and steal the only things that bring them any joy in life. These walls are a blessing? What a load of crap.
"We couldn't save your father.. but we did manage to retrieve this.."
The soldier reached into his pocket and handed you a white cloth, inside of it was your father's emblem.. the white stitching now dyed red. Memories of your father clouded your mind...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Daddy what's that?" you jumped as you pointed at the set of wings sewn into the back of your father's brown leather jacket.
" Well these are my wings sweetheart." He smiled brightly as he picked you up
" Do they help you fly?"
He chuckled at your curiosity "Well.. one day they will and then you'll get a pair of wings exactly like mine, and you can go wherever you want with them"
" Will you go with me?"
" Of course y/n, ill always be right next to you, no matter how far .."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"No.." You thought to yourself, you couldn't allow yourself to crumble not here, not now...
You'd never lie to me... I know it-
"y/n.. y/n"
You're snapped out of your thoughts by Eren and Mikasa..
"Come on let's go.." Eren looked at you, pity in his eyes, as they attempted to pull you away from the gate. The tears in your eyes clouding your vision as you focused on the patch in your hand..

Thank you so so so much to anyone that decides to read this mess of a story.
Considering my love for Attack on Titan decided to splurge up again- I've decided to write this out! This is the first fic I have written in many MANY years so I'm sorry if I am a little rusty.. and I promise more of your favorite characters are to come!
I'm still not entirely sure whether this will be an xreader or not, but since I'm following the progression of the anime, we will just have to wait and see together. There will be some scenes excluded that just don't fit with the flow of my narrative but I promise any and everything important will most likely still be included?
If you have any suggestions or anything you'd like to see please leave a comment below!
