Chapter 7: Remembering Names
"And this is your room, Lilliana." I said opening the door.
Lilliana gasped as she gazed in awe of the bedroom. I had filled it with luxury pillows and foreign sweets, so she could be more comfortable away from home.
"It is enormous!" she exclaimed grinning from ear to ear.
She was so adorable when she was excited. I really hoped that she would pick me in the end, and I also did not want James or Edward to claim the throne. Who knows how much pain and suffering they could inflict on the people? I always put other's needs before my own, and I believed that is what makes a strong and intelligent leader.
"I hope you like it, Lilliana. I tried to make it suit a lady such as yourself."
"Well, indeed it is magnificent. You did a tremendous job, Oliver."
I could not believe my ears! She remembered my name! This must be a sign that she wants to get to know me in return!
"I hope I can make your stay more enjoyable. If you need anyhting just ask me, and I will see what I can do." I said looking at her beautiful brown eyes that shimmered like the midnight stars above.
She reminded me so much of mother. Mother was always kind and held her standards to the highest proportions. The room used to be her's and where she would spend most of her time with my other brothers and me.
"This used to be her room..." I whispered to myself.
"Who?" Lilliana questioned.
I guess she heard me, so it would not hurt to tell her.
"This used to be the queen's chambers..."
"Oh...what happened to her?"
"S-she ran away with a strange man on the night just before Edward's birthday. After realizing that she would have to raise us alone, she fled because the responsibility frightened her. That's why my brothers are in a dispute over the throne. It is all to replace her position, and how very greedy some of my brothers have become."
This whole charade with Lilliana's heart was ridiculous, but it was the only way to make peace between our brotherhood. Besides, she was the most beautiful maiden I had ever seen. I just needed someone to help me win her. Maybe Giles could assist me, because as far as I knew he had no interest in Lilliana.
"I'm sorry, I wish I could help settle this war between your family." she said in a sorrowful tone.
It was kind of amusing to think that, in reality, she actually was unknowingly.
