#𝟎𝟎𝟐. Late Nigh Museum Heist
Unfortunately, this chapter happens to be on the shorter side, rather than the longer side.
But hey, at least you guys are introduced to new characters over the next three chapters.
Later on during that evening, Malorie, Evelyn, and [Name] have joined Carlos and Jay in their dormitory.
[Name] laid back on Carlos' bed with a heavy sigh. "You guys are so lucky to be rooming together — the guy I'm rooming with is pretty weird."
"He can't be that bad, [Name]. Give him some time, and maybe you'll be friends," Evelyn patted his knee with a smile.
He envied how nice Evie can be in situations like these. He doesn't even know if any of the others understand how weird it is to be back in a place after being gone for so long.
"What the hell are you doing," Malorie turned her head, seeing Jay dumping a lot of stuff on his bed.
"This? It's called stealing," Jay replied with a smug smile.
"Okay, but what's the point?" Malorie asked with a bored expression.
"Well, it's like buying whatever I want, but it's free."
[Name] chimed in. "Permanent borrowing — But what's the point in stealing when once we've done what we need to do, you can do all the snatching you want?"
"Well," Jay shrugged. "You do it your way, and I do it mine."
Carlos is busy playing a game with joysticks in his hand. He hasn't been paying attention at all, rather focused on not dying in game.
"Die, suckers!" Carlos exclaims with the biggest smile on his face. "Hey [Name], Jay, come and check this thing out! Man, it's awesome."
"GUYS!" Mal exclaimed. "Do I have to keep reminding you what we're all here for?"
"Remind yourself of what you're here for. We were selected to attend this stupid school and Maleficent only set you an objective," [Name] shrugged. "Sure, the others can help you, but I'll remind you that I'm not really here to be helpful."
I'm more interested in finding the other half of my family, He wanted to add.
Jay stands on the platform Carlos was on, and takes the joysticks into his hands. "[Name]'s right. And plus, it's all just: Fairy Godmother — blah, blah, blah! Magic wand — blah, blah, blah!"
Evelyn, [Name] and Carlos chuckled at the statement, but of course Malorie was less lenient to have a little giggle fest.
"THIS is our ONE chance to prove to our parents that we are ruthless, evil, and cruel. Yeah?" Mal shouted, hoping to get her point across. "Evie, mirror me."
It's all an act just so that she doesn't have second thoughts. What a mother pleaser.
"Mirror mirror on the. . .," Evelyn paused in thought. "Mirror mirror in my hand, where is Fairy Godmother's wand . . . stand?"
The mirror had shown a close up of where the wand is, but it doesn't help at all.
"Magic mirror, not so close," Evie instructed, and the mirror did just that. It showed her a picture of the Earth — but at least it did what she told it to.
"Now it's just a picture of the Globe," [Name] commented, now sitting on the table Evelyn and Malorie were sitting beside. "Are you sure this mirror works?"
"Closer," Evelyn instructs, ignoring the comment [Name] made. "Closer, closer —. . ."
Carlos looks back at the abandoned game. "Can I go back to playing my game? I'm almost on level three."
"STOP! It's in a museum, do we know where that is?" Mal questioned, and Carlos was on it immediately.
"Two point three miles from here," Carlos replied, turning around his school issued computer.
Four out of five run out of the dorm room, Carlos having snuck his way to try and get back on his game. However, someone in the group had noticed that he wasn't there with them.
"CARLOS, GET OUT OF THERE!"
"Coming!" Carlos replied, scrambling to leave while having his jacket half on.
The five of them reach the outside of the Museum of Cultural History. They're standing inside, having passed their way from the sleeping security guard.
"Come on, E, check your mirror," Malorie Thorn instructed.
Evelyn pulled it out in worry. "Is my mascara smudged?" She worried, touching her hand to her face.
"I mean no offence when I say this, but Evelyn, can you please help us find the wand instead of worrying about how you look?" [Name] questioned in a hushed whisper.
"Oh," Evelyn sighed, and used her mirror to guide them. Eventually, they reached double doors and behind it was Maleficent's spinning wheel.
Carlos, Jay, and [Name] exchange looks with each other.
"That's your mother's spinning wheel?" Jay sniggered, covering his mouth.
"Yeah," Carlos joined in, "it's kind of . . . dorky."
"Everyone's scared of her because of something as small as that?" [Name] chuckled, covering his mouth because it was louder than he expected it to be.
Mal shot an angry glare at the three of them. "It's magic — it doesn't have to look scary." She pulled out the spell book she was gifted. "Magic spindle do not linger, make my victim prick a finger."
Nothing happens, and the boys just find another reason to tease her.
"Impressive," Jay commented.
"I got the chills," Carlos pointed at his forearm, which was perfectly fine.
"I'm quaking in my boots," [Name] muttered to himself — not sure if the other two would understand what he meant by that.
"Prick the finger and prick it deep, send my victim off to sleep." Mal tried again, and this time it worked.
The man who was on duty turned around on his chair. He got up and walked over to the spinning wheel with curiosity, pricking his finger, and laying down near it.
"Impressive that it actually works," [Name] shrugged. "Just because it's magic doesn't change it from being dorky— it doesn't even look like the real thing."
Mal rolled her eyes and tried to open the door, figuring out that it was locked.
"Stand back," Jay announced, taking more than enough steps away from the door.
"Make it easy and make it quick. Open this door without a kick."
Malory pushed the door open before Jay could kick it, (which could (and, more possibly, will) wake up the night-guard) and watched him fly to the floor.
"You coming?" She asked, stepping over him and making her way up the steps, after Evelyn.
Carlos tried to help Jay up, but was pushed off because Jay was able to get up by himself. The two stared at each other before [Name] got involved, who pushed past them and signalled to follow after him.
"Jeeze, just trying to help," Carlos said bitterly.
"Shh— Carlos!" Malory hushed, looking at the boys.
"Coming!"
Eventually the boys caught up to Evelyn and they rushed up the stairs, making sure that they weren't loud enough to wake up the night-guard. Who knows what would happen if they got caught during attempted theft during the first day in Auradon?
That wouldn't be a good look for Benjamin.
But why does [Name] care about Benjamin? He should be focusing on getting the wand, and then finding his mother.
"We're so close!" Evelyn whispered to everyone. "This staircase— everyone, go left!"
"Hurry up, [Name]!" Malory complained. "Come on! Go, go— up, up, up!"
Not really paying attention to her mirror, Evelyn ended up taking a wrong turn. The Villain Kids stood in the villain exhibit, where the wax version of their parents stood in all of their miserable glory.
"Mummy?" Evie questioned, her voice quiet and scared.
Jay's voice was more angry, "Killer."
"I will never forget mother's day again," Carlos commented, ready to run as soon as he got the chance.
"He's not a monster," [Name] muttered to himself, his voice faint as the tears started forming in his eyes. All he wanted to do was leave, so he took the initiative. "Well, the wands not here, and this looks like the wrong room. Let's bounce."
[Name], Evelyn, Jay and Carlos all left the room, but Mal stood there, staring at the wax figure of her mother. Is that what she's going to become? Is her mother trying to make her into a miniature version of herself?
The future of the free world rests on your shoulders. Do not blow it.
"Look at you, look at me. I don't know who to be, mother," Malory began, blinking away the tears, "Is it wrong? Is it right? To be a thief in the night— mother!"
She paused, choking back a tear. Was she really crying?
How stupid. Her mother would be disappointed.
"Tell me what to do..."
[Name] walked back into the villains exhibit. "Mal, come on. We've found the Hero's Exhibit— Evie thinks that the wand might be there."
Malory turned to nod at him, and is almost ready to leave when an ugly cackle sounds from behind her— the statue of her mother had come to life.
But was that a good or a bad thing?
"Oh, don't be so serious, darling," Maleficent snorted. "Oh, I'm sorry for startling you."
Malory stared at her mother in shock. Was this really happening, or was she hallucinating?
[Name] Nekrós feels uncomfortable the moment he enters the Hero Exhibit.
There's something slightly off about the room—something that [Name] can't really put a finger on . . .
That's when he saw the wax figure. There he was, the bastard, standing in all of his undeserved glory.
"Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty—— ugh, Snow White," Evelyn scoffed, looking around at the figures and artefacts. "All these princesses, but still no magical wand..."
"And Herakles," [Name] had pointed out. "Aladdin, Prince Philip, Prince Eric, Naveen—— the lost goes on."
He couldn't take his eyes off the statue. There was some built up anger that he had. Maybe it was from when he was forced to live on the Isle just because of his father. Sure, the gods did pretty petty stuff, but if that meant Hades would be banished to the Isle of the Lost, then Zeus (and probably Hera, to an extent) would've had to be there as well.
Herakles —who prefers his roman name because of course he does— wasn't even a (demi) god anymore, he chose to be human so that he could be with Megara.
They probably have a child, [Name] realised.
"I thought his name was Hercules," Carlos questioned.
"It is, if you're going with the Roman myth," [Name] answered. "Obviously, Hercules rolls off the tounge better, but he also hates Hera, so he prefers it."
"And you call him Herakles?" Evelyn raised her eyebrow. "Isn't that like... disrespectful?"
"Oh, it totally is. But I don't like him, so I don't really care," [Name] shrugged.
He's the reason you guys met me in the first place.
But he didn't say that out loud. Not to them. They might find out eventually, but today was not the day.
"Do you have a roman name?" Carlos questioned. "Not to assume, or anything—— I'm just curious."
"[Roman name]."
The answer was ready to fall out of his mouth before he had time to think about it. Technically he had two, but whose documenting that?
[Name] didn't feel like looking at the statue any longer, so he left —not expecting the others to follow him— and the three followed after him.
"If I were a magic wand, where would I be?" [Name] muttered to himself.
He entered the next room, and it answered his question immediately. What a wicked surprise!
"Who knew a wand needed it's own room?" Carlos questioned, smiling ear-to-ear at [Name]'s accidental discovery.
"For an object, it's pretty powerful," [Name] shrugged. "It could probably grant any wish you had. No wonder why it's not in use anymore—— it's pretty dangerous."
"But now that we have it, we can remove the barrier from the Isle," Jay commented, leaning closer to where the wand was. "And then, we can do anything we want in Auradon!"
[Name] rolled his eyes. "We still can— within reason."
"This is so hexciting!" Evelyn gasped. "Oh wait!— Malory's not here—— I need to go and get here... don't touch anything while I'm gone."
Evelyn left the room in a hurry, and that left Carlos, [Name] and Jay there, staring at each other.
"Don't even think about it," [Name] said, glaring down Jay.
He knew what Jay wanted to do, but he couldn't let that happen. They had no idea what the security was like in this place. They had no idea about the cameras, the guards, the backup, the procedures, and gods, they didn't even know what the alarms were like.
The best thing to do was just to play it safe. Safe enough that they grab the wand, get to the Isle, open the barrier, and the rest was history.
Well, [Name] was more concerned about what his mother was doing.
Hey, it's been a long time since he's seen her. It's not wrong to think about your mother every once in a while.
"Here it is," Evelyn smiled. Malory was standing behind her, and her face lit up in awe and surprise.
The five of them rushed down to the bottom level, where the wand had floated down to (a cool feature to have in a magical museum).
Again, Jay made the move to grab the wand, and like before, [Name] yelled at him.
"Jay, I am being serious, do not!" [Name] warned.
But this time, Jay didn't listen to him. He smirked —taking the claim as a challenge— and reached in to get the wand.
However, as soon as his hand made contact, the force field set off an alarm.
The Villain Kids all covered their ears at the piercing noise. It was cool that they wanted to be safe, but if this was a land of heroes, do they need to be this safe?
"A force field AND a siren?" Carlos complained, shouting at the top of his lungs.
Jay pressed his arms firmly against his head. "I think that's just a little excessive."
"This wouldn't have happened if you just LISTENED TO ME!" [Name] remarked. "Honestly, Jaylon, you have NO self restraint!"
The quintet rush their way out of the room and down the stairs, eventually making it to Maleficent's spinning wheel. They managed to avoid the night-guard, who had walked up a different staircase to get to the wand room.
The others rushed out, but Carlos stayed behind— he turned off the alarm and called it off as a false signal to the main guards.
"Carlos?!" Malory exclaimed, wondering why he seemed to always be getting seperated from the group.
"Uh, you're welcome?" Carlos responded, throwing his hands up in the air but following after them regardless.
"Way to go, Jay," Malory grumbled. "Now he have to go to school tommorow!"
"What makes me angrier is that we could've gotten the wand sooner if Mal hadn't done whatever she was doing in the villains Exhibit!" Mal rolled her eyes. [Name] continued. "For the self-proclaimed leader of this group, you don't seem to be doing your job very well."
They got back to Auradon Prep, and the group split, all heading to their different dorms. [Name]'s happened to be in a weird place, and he bumped into someone on the way.
"Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was go—... ing," the boy paused, looking at what [Name] was wearing. "Were you doing something late at night, or is that just how you sleep?"
"Do you really think anyone enjoys sleeping in clothes like these?" [Name] replied, an eyebrow raised as he tilted his head.
"I— sorry, I don't know why I asked that?" The boy chuckled quietly, extending his hand out. "Andreas Vasilios. Son of Hercules."
[Name]'s faint smile dropped, and Andreas's expression turned from happy to confused. All he said who he was, is that a bad thing?
"I'm guessing you don't recognise me— from the Villain Kids that arrived today?" [Name]'s eye twitched slightly, and he knew Andreas caught it. "[Name] Nekrós. I'm the son of Hades."
Hihi! I was originally planning to release this chapter earlier this month, but then I decided to wait until today, because it's Friday the Thirteenth (and yes, I know that it only really works in October, but let me have some fun).
Fun little fact that I figured out. Jay's name on the Descendants Wiki is Jay of Agrabah, and because I sometimes like to give characters additional names, or "Nicholasname" their names, he's now: Jaylon of Agrabah.
Rewriting this book is actually hell (and sometimes it's fun) just because I decided to add a few more characters to make this book better than it is. Ya'll should thank me for trying to make Descendants better.
This does mean I'll start to derive from the movies a bit. Especially when it comes to the character designs.
