Chapter 4.

Jungkook

"Thank you," I say and take my iced americano. Before you say anything, I know it's winter, but I refuse to give them up even when it's freezing outside.

I lost mom as soon as we came here. I don't know why she asked me to come with her, if she was going to disappear as soon as we arrived. I can't really fault her though, these are her students after all. I don't know how long we're going to stay here, but I might as well see what this is all about.

I check out the football stand and buy a muffin with the tokens I exchanged at the entrance. I appreciate the thing they are going for with this fair. And it does smell heavenly in here, I smile in delight as I pass a waffle-making stand.

I take a sip of my coffee and another booth catches my eye. It's decorated with twinkling stars and planets. Looks interesting, so I might as well check it out.

I can see three children standing right behind the table full of packed cookies. For a second I think they're running it alone, but then I see two more people sitting behind them, munching on some cookies.

I'm greeted with the biggest smiles that warm my heart.

"Would you like some cookies?" a small girl with big blue eyes asks me when I approach the booth.

I smile back, "Depends, what do you have?"

Her eyes grow even bigger with excitement and so does my smile. The little girl tells me all about the different cookies they're selling.

"Wow, you did this all by yourselves?" I tease her a bit.

"No," she looks up at me with defiance, "our 'big sisters' helped us just a bit," she says and looks at the girls sitting behind her.

By the tone of the little girl when she said they are her "sisters" I'm guessing they are just part of an educational program.

While the little girl packs my chocolate chip cookies, I say hi to the 'big sisters'.

"Hey," replies the one with the dark hair, and nudges the light-haired girl beside her, causing my lips to curl into a smile.

I've gotten used to the speechless girl kind of thing,  but that doesn't mean that I can't enjoy the deer in the headlights look.

The light-haired girl snaps out of it and greets me with a big smile.

Usually, I stray away from girls who seem a bit fake at first sight, but I get a feeling that this is just how she is. And judging by the way the dark-haired girl is trying to hide her smile, I'm probably right.

"It's really cool that you're helping them like this," I say and instead of them answering me, the little girl does, with a bag for me in her hands.

"That will be two tokens, sir," she says from behind the toy cash register, "and they," she looks in the direction of the 'big sisters', "are the best, you know."

"Please call me Jungkook, I'm not a sir yet," I wink at then little girl, who holds out her hand.

"I'm Elena," she says back.

"It's very nice to meet you," I hand her the two tokens and take the bag. "Have a nice day," I look at the older girls again, my gaze involuntarily travels to the dark-haired girl and she gives me a small smile.

Something about her strikes me a little, but I recover quickly, put one of my signature smiles on my face and head out to wait for my mom.

"What just happened?" Ali's mouth is about to fall open and her eyes are twice their normal size. "That was Jeon Jungkook. And he talked to us."

"Well, mostly to Elena, but yeah, sure," I say and smile at her.

"What would I give to have a guy like him," she sighs and points a finger at me. "How could you be so chill?"

"He's just a guy," I say back nonchalantly, but I can't say I'm completely unaffected by what just happened.

He wasn't anything like I imagined.

I expected him to be cocky like most jocks or at least a bit snarky, but the way he talked to Elena was soft and caring.

Anyway, back to work.

"Did you see how big he is, oh my god, can you imagine what he looks like without a shirt on." I roll my eyes and laugh Ali's excitement off and get back to work while she blabbers on.
