Chapter 29.
Grace
This! Exactly this! This is what I didn't want to happen.
I always get nervous around guys I like, but never Jungkook. And I loved that, but now, it's all ruined.
I can't concentrate on anything but his arm around me on movie nights.
I listen to his breathing, the way his muscles flex and relax.
How his body shakes when he laughs at the screen.
This is torture. And I feel guilty. But I don't know what to do.
I'm trying to not pay attention to it, but sometimes he catches me off guard.
Like a few nights ago when we were at his house for movie night.
I came into the room, focused and then I saw him. Shirtless, painting his celling. As I said, it's torture sometimes.
But he's still my best friend and I'm completely relaxed around him.
Except when shirtless episodes happen, then I'm no way near to being relaxed.
Anyway, today's the day.
It's the finals.
And I'm there 100%.
Ali and Becky have already told me they're tagging along.
But before we go they insist on choosing my outfit. I can't believe they don't trust in my style choices after the green dress last week.
They're rummaging through my closet while I'm making us some coffee when my phone rings in the bedroom.
"It's Jungkook!" Becky yells.
"Ignore it," I say back too quickly. Oops, I did not mean to say that out loud.
"What?" both of their heads poke from my bedroom.
"Is everything okay?" Ali asks.
I fake a smile, "Yeah, everything is just fine," I say, "I've just decided to give him and Sarah some space," I shrug. "I'll send him a text to let him know we're coming for sure."
"Okay, but I don't think Jungkook would ever ask you to do that," Becky says, not sure about my decision.
"I know, that's why I'm doing it." I sip my coffee, desperate for a topic change.
"Come see what we've picked out," Ali drags me to the bedroom.
Three outfits are laid out on the bed and I look at my best friends. Is this their new thing? Dressing me up?
Once I realise that only one outfit has green in it, I have to choose that one.
They both already have something green, Ali a green purse and Becky a green belt. Well I'm going to bit of a more outspoken fan of our team.
I put on the green top, the jean shorts and white sneakers. I add a green ribbon in my hair to finish it off and I'm ready.
We're off and excited for the game.
It's intense, and the opposing team is really good. I have no idea how this is going to end, I just hope out boys pull through.
And they do.
They won!
This games was amazing to watch, nerve-wrecking, but amazing.
We cheer so loud our throats's hurt when our team gets the trophy. I don't miss the big smiles on Jin's and Yoongi's faces. This was their last game.
Since it's going to take a long time before they wrap it up, Ali, Becky and I decide to grab something to eat.
We settle for burgers near the arena and fill ourselves up before a night of partying.
A few guys pass our table with more than obvious stares.
My hands immediately fly to cover myself. I hate being looked at like that. Like I'm some object.
"Can you explain to me again why you made me wear this?" I feel sick, those guys keep staring at us.
Ali notices and gives me her denim jacket. I put it on and thank her. Now I can finally eat at peace.
We finish up and head to the boys' house.
It's already super loud when we get there. Apparently the party is in the backyard, that's why it's so loud. I hear my phone vibrate and tell the girls to go ahead.
I finally manage to find it in my purse and unlock it.
One new email.
From: StarMedia
To: GraceG.Green/blue-side.com
We're pleased to inform you that you have been invited for an interview at StarMedia on......
The rest of the email blurs.
I got it!
I got the interview!
I can't believe this is happening!
I run inside, through the living room and out to the porch.
My eyes search the crowd.
Ali and Becky are nowhere to be found, but my eyes land on a tall, dark brown set of hair.
Jungkook.
Jungkook
I'm talking to Jin about the game, still full of adrenaline. It was a close one, but all that matters now is that we won. We actually won. I can't seem to stop smiling.
Then I spot a running figure in the corner of my eye.
And she's getting closer.
I turn to my right just in time to catch the girl running into my arms.
Her head buries into my neck and her scent overwhelms me. Peaches and summer.
My hands wrap around her tightly.
"I got it," Grace says into my neck.
It takes me a second.
"You got it?" she got the interview?!
"Mhm," she nods.
"Oh my god, this is amazing," I spin her around and then put her down before me.
"And you won, oh my god, you won!" she is beaming. I don't think I've ever seen her smiling this wide. Her eyes are shining and her smile is so big, dimples have appeared on her cheeks.
She looks absolutely beautiful.
Jin breaks our celebration in our own world, "What did you get?"
Grace turn to him, "I got the interview, Jin."
Jin's mouth forms an O of realisation before his lips spread into a wide smile.
"Way to go, baby-doll!" he hugs her side.
Jimin joins us and Grace tells him the great news.
I love the effect she's had on my friends.
They're always smiling whenever she's around.
We've moved ourselves to the far end of our backyard to celebrate, now joined by Ali and Becky, who are already pouring champagne, and by Sarah.
Why do I get the feeling she's upset about something again?
Becky rises her glass and makes a toast, "To your win," she points at players with her glass, "and to your interview," she looks at Grace who's still radiating pure happiness.
We raise our glasses and I catch Grace's eye and wink at her. This toast is for her.
After we empty our glasses, Sarah huffs next to me when Grace looks our way and smiles.
Sarah takes my hand and steps to Grace.
"What is your problem?" Sarah's voice is incredibly rude.
