“We’ll have to rest here for the night. It’s getting pretty late.” meowed Darktail, while stifling a yawn. “Besides, I feel like my paws will fall off soon.” Brightnose looked around at her two friends. They were almost fainting from fatigue, but they kept going for her sake. Suddenly, a wave of emotion swept over. Seeing these two cats who were helping her along the way no matter what, and trusting her completely, overwhelmed her. No cat in 2512 would ever do this. She stopped and said “You’re right. We should stop. You two both look absolutely exhausted.” They gave her looks of gratefulness, and lay down, falling asleep almost before they hit the ground. She lay down too, and took one last look around. Then she drifted off into the land of dreams. “Brightnose! Brightnose! Can you hear me? It’s me, Dylan. I’m using the dream receptor. CAN YOU HEAR ME????" Brightnose started in her dream. “Where are you, Dylan? I’m right here, but I can’t see you.” “That’s because the receptor is not made to go back or forward in time. I’m going to lose you soon!!!!” “OK. Say what you have to say, really fast!!!!” “The whole space-time continuum could collapse by the time you get to the time machine! You have to get home fast!” “How long do I have?” asked Brightnose. “About two months. And be careful! There are-kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!” “Dylan! Dylan!!!! Are you there? Ohmygosh. The dream receptor must have lost connection!” Brightnose woke up with a jolt. “REOWWWW!!!!” “What! What’s wrong?” asked Colorfur. “Is it your leg? Because I can’t fix that. Sorry.” “No. It’s not my leg. My human contacted me through my dream. We only have a month before the space-time continuum collapses!!!!” “What’s the space-time continuum?” meowed Colorfur. “What does collapse mean?” asked Darktail. “Fine. I’ll put it in dummy language. The whole world will explode.” “MOOOOWWWWWW, REOWWWWWWW!!!!” cried Darktail. “You mean my family will die?” “Yes. It does.” “NOOOOOOOO!” yowled Darktail. “That can’t happen! I need my family for food! I love them and they love me back!” “I’m afraid that is what will happen. We have to get moving!!!!” meowed Brightnose urgently. Then she heard a distant barking, getting louder and louder as the dog approached. “Oop. It’s  Sweetie Pie. We have to leave now.” said Colorfur. Then, seeing Brightnose’s questioning look,  she said “He’s a huge dog and his humans absolutely adore him. He is the most dangerous dog in the city. Let’s go!” “Wait,wait, wait a minute, would ya?! I have to get up and get used to running again. You can’t just leave me!” cried Brightnose in panic. Darktail had already gone insane, jumping around like a rabbit and murmuring “good doggy, bad doggy, good doggy, bad doggy, SWEETIE PIE!!!!” The cats whirled around when they heard that, and came face-to-face with a huge, slobbery, brown dog. “Sweetie Pie is very hungry. You three look like a good meal!” barked the creature in a loud, deep bark. Brightnose closed her eyes. She knew this was the end.
