You were a single mom.
23 years old, paying rent on a monthly basis working 3 jobs and bringing up another human like spreading butter on bread.
To elaborate, you didn't have a clue what you were doing with your life and you still have no idea now, what you do know is that four years ago, you made a few...questionable choices. Some just perfect and others, well, mistakes.
Straight off the top of your mind you could say a good choice was to keep your baby boy, Lee Hyun-woo. He was born very healthy and you loved every bit of him, his father however was a completely different case. Hyun-woo changed your life, in fact you could say he helped it blossom. Yes, starting out with very little support from family and friends was tricky, especially in the early days where your precious baby could only sleep every 45 minutes and would need cuddles or feeding to get back to sleep again, you were thankful you had your older brother to be there for you even when your parents were not.
You reminiscent on the days where you had to send hyun-woo of to school for the very first time, you still remember his snotty nose and loud wails as you let the teacher guide him in class as you tearfully waved a little good bye after him, telling him you'll be back later.
Hyun-woo and you Had a very strong and close bond like a chain. Him being the only person who's really in your life and you being the major one in his life had its ups and downs, hyun-woo didn't really trust anyone else other than you, that was until you sent him off to 'kid prison' but that didn't mean he wouldn't run right up to you and cling on to you after school finished.
Working a collection of small part time jobs served as a anchor and support for your special family, it provided the smart down town apartment for you and little hyun-woo and it provided the necessities of life such as Food and Paying the bills, you felt sorry for hyun-woo since he didn't have many friends and you couldn't afford to buy him all the gadgets his friends have.
But hyun-woo never complained, he kept telling you that he "didn't want those toys" or that he "wasn't bothered about what he doesn't have," he was a sweetie.
Before your amazing turn of tables, your life was simple, you were a high school graduate heading into college with a mind full of wonders and plans. Your family were especially proud of you for being accepted into one of the most prestigious universities in the country and ranking as top of your class.
You were married at 18 and discovered you were pregnant at 19 you ex husband was a horrible man and you didn't realise it until after you married him that he wasn't what he portrayed to be. You knew you couldn't allow him to take this beautiful new life from you forcing you to either get an abortion or somehow harming you in some way so that it wouldn't grow healthy, you didn't want to take the risk.
So you ditched him, ran away, took a voyage, however people would put it, in simple you left him and moved to Busan. With your little baby on the way you felt as if the burden you were carrying was brushed away, completely whipped from your consciousness. You could easily remember the relief you had when that echoing voice on the train said 'welcome to Busan, we will be arriving at city center in a few moments.' Breathing out slowly and finding yourself with a content smile, anxious and excited to start a new life.
Finding yourself sleeping in homeless centres and the odd hostel, you tried your best to scavenge your way to find a job while doing your best to provide for you baby, a delightful elderly lady kept her eyes on you as you wandered the streets, she soon opened her arms and home to you and your expecting baby, she soon became a mother figure to you and helped support you by allowing you to work in her flower shop, Miss Min's. You knew her as Kim Min-ju. You worked there in the mornings and had a weekend job to boost up some extra cash, your due date soon came round and you were rushed into hospital on the 5th of April 2017, That was when Hyun-woo was brought into the world, healthy and happy.
Min-ju gave you time off from the flower shop to help look after little hyun-woo, eventually you saved up enough to buy your own place, deciding to move down town into a smart apartment near the local school and a 10 minute walk away from the flower shop. You eventually paid back Min-ju a little gift telling her how thankful you were for her to open her home and shop to you.
And this is where you were now, you had your own apartment which was just right, you had a lovely motherly figure who you could count on, she even helped you get in touch with your brother after a few years, now being 23 you couldn't help but fall in love with your little life. It was perfect, blissful and you didn't want anything to change it.
"Mommy! Can we get these!~" cheers out the most adorable voice you have ever heard tearing you from your thoughts and bringing your attention to the joyful smile and tiny grubby hands holding up a packet of banana chips.
"Aw hyunie we cant! But we can get them next time!" Your mouth shaped into a slim pitiful smile as you watch his little pink flush on his cheeks disappear and his huge cheeky grin disappear being replaced with a melancholy expression.
You carefully watch him Trott off and place them back onto the shelf where he found them, skipping back to you trying to take his mind on the banana chips as his little human hand laches onto yours as you walk through the grocery store with basket in hand, looking at the fresh fruit and being as selective as possible about what you want Hyun-woo to eat.
Completely in your own space and possibly universe as you carefully picked up a juicy and fluorescent orange the same delightful voice filled your ears causing your eyes to widen in shock and pure dread.
"Mummy that man has the biggest ass I've seen in my life!"
