Chapter Four
Elizabeth lay curled up under her bed, hearing Kellie drunkenly crashing around the kitchen. She squeezed her eyes shut, whispering a prayer.
"God, please help me. Please let me get out of here. Please send mom and dad to help me." Then, we heard Kellie screaming.
"Hey!! Hey, you little b****!! Get out here, you brat!! Now!!" She blinked away tears, refusing to move. Then, she heard pounding on her door, but she still didn't move, praying silently that the door would keep her out.
"Elizabeth, you little brat!! Open this door, now, and your punishment won't be as bad!!" She stayed put, begging God to do something, to keep her away. Then, she heard a cracking sound, and the door crashed open. She scrambled out from under the bed, and Kellie grabbed her wrist, twisting it. She cried out in pain, collapsing in the corner.
"Found you, b****. Did you really think that the Smallbones could protect a s***** little b**** like you?" She stared Kellie right in the eyes, and whispered one sentence.
"They love me, Jesus loves me.....and he loves you." That did it for Kellie. She threw the wine glass in her hand at Elizabeth, and it smashed above her head. She covered her head with her hands, shielding her face. Kellie yanked her up, kicking, punching, and scratching her. She kept going for almost two hours, until Elizabeth could barely move. The room started to spin, and she blacked out. When she came to, she saw Kellie again, and this time, she had a knife in one hand, turning and inspecting it.
"There you are." She said, a cruel smile on her face. Her stomach clenched, and she tried to move away, but couldn't. Kellie moved towards Elizabeth, and chuckled slightly.
"Oh, don't worry. You'll see your precious little foster family again. In h***!" The knife flashed, and Elizabeth felt a stabbing pain in her stomach. She screamed, and then it happened again. The same pain, and it kept getting more intense. Kellie stabbed her four times, twice in the stomach, once in the shoulder, and once in the leg.
A little while before, Luke and Courtney had gone to see Kellie's boss, Mr. Evan Davis. They got there, and Courtney's heart was pounding. This was their last chance to get their daughter back. They went in, and an older man, with salt and pepper hair met them.
"Mr. and Mrs. Smallbone?" Luke nodded, and held out his hand.
"I'm Luke, and this is my wife, Courtney. We need to speak with you about one of your employees and the girl in her care. Kellie Davidson and Elizabeth Chapman." Mr. Davis nodded.
"Yes, Kellie is one of my newest employees. What can I do for you?" Courtney then spoke up.
"Sir, Kellie put information on a form that was incorrect. She put down that because of a condition my husband was diagnosed with four years ago, he is incapable of providing properly." Mr. Davis nodded, a slightly confused look on his face, and shuffled through some of his papers.
"Yes. She said he'd been given a cancer diagnosis." Luke shook his head, pulling out the doctor's report.
"No. It wasn't cancer. It's a digestive disorder, ulcerative colitis. I was hospitalized at one point because we didn't know about it. I've never been given a cancer diagnosis. And I am capable. You've seen the average income we have." Mr. Davis sighed, running a hand through his hair, and then went through a few morn things. Then, Courtney saw anger building in his eyes.
"Mr. Smallbone, I'm so, so sorry. She did put incorrect information on here. If you will come with me, I have the authority to remove her from Ms. Davidson's care, and return guardianship to you. We can also finish the adoption papers within a month." Luke nodded, and they followed him out. Courtney gently squeezed his hand, and Luke smiled. They were getting their daughter back.
