CHAPTER 45 : Nixie's Decision : A Farewell*

It was the end of June and summer vacations were just a few days away. Harry and his friends went on an insane escapade to persecute whoever was really after the Philosopher's stone until they finally discovered it was Quirrell.

The witch's now friend, Severus Snape, was finally innocent in the eyes of the golden trio. The trio no longer spied or glared at the potions master. They no longer pointed fingers at him or accuse him of stealing the stone.

In fact, Quirrell himself was as "kind" as to tell Harry that it was Severus who was trying to save him in the Quidditch game and not kill him. Sadly however, Harry wasn't entirely convinced with that tale and would usually glare at the potions master anytime he spots him.

Some things just doesn't change.

The year ended with Gryffindor wining the house cup but luckily for the potions master and the history of magic Professor, Florina Woods, Slytherin won the Quidditch cup.

It was just like what Severus told her after the end of the match between Gryffindor and Slytherin, 'we might have lost the battle but we will win the war.'

And they did.

All the students finished their last meals at the great hall and were escorted by their Prefects to the castle's gates and then to the Hogwarts express. Florina was looking at the organized departure of the students from the astronomy tower smiling to herself.

Her best friend was behind her as well fascinated by the scene unfolding right before her eyes.

"You know something Flo," Rose spoke slowly "even though we have a lot of magic and magical creatures back at my homeland, I will never get over the wonders of the Earth and Earth's wizarding world."

The witch chuckled, "Truth be told, I never will either. It's just too magnificent, too perfect. I know I am a witch in a magical world but I will never see it all. I will never witness all the magic that comes with this amazing place."

"Who are you talking to?" a calm voice asked from behind making the two jump.

"David!" Florina exclaimed in surprise.

She was relieved it was a friendly face instead of a stranger. "What... what are you doing here?"

"I was told that you like to frequent the astronomy tower so I thought I would drop by and say farewell before I leave," he beamed at her.

"Oh how sweet, thank you" she smiled back "are you leaving today?"

He nodded coming up to her. Smirking, he said "Oh no no missy, don't try to divert my question. Who were you talking to?"

She chuckled nervously. "That...that was nothing David. I like to speak out loud when I am alone. It's actually quite helpful, it helps me think. There is no need to concern yourself with a crazy woman like me."

He shook his head. "You are as sane as I am and you know it."

Standing beside her, he put his hands on the rails and took a deep breath. "Well then if you are not busy, may I join you?"

"Of course," the witch nodded.

They enjoyed each other's company in total silence. Their silence wasn't uncomfortable at all but rather... serene and peaceful. The fairy, who is always skeptical whenever the tall black haired wizard shows up, felt the same peace and quite like the other two.

For once, Rose wasn't as tense or cynical around David.

After a while of the peaceful silence, the emerald eyed wizard turned to Florina. "Actually I was also looking for you to ask you if... if you want to spend the summer with me at my house."

Florina's blue eyes widened in surprise as well as her fairy. "Like...like the entire summer? Just you and me?"

"It's...well if you don't want to that is totally fine too," he shrugged trying to seem casual but sadness was evident in his voice "Maybe if you want to come for a visit someday or stay for even a day or two that's fine too. It's really up to you Flora...ina."

Florina suddenly chuckled making the wizard frown in confusion. She shook her head immediately. "I am sorry, I didn't mean to laugh at you."

She sighed smiling at him, "Well, I remember Dumbledore prohibited you to be alone with me, wouldn't that be breaking his majesty's word?"

David chuckled shaking his head, "Oh no Florina, don't worry about that. It...uh...it has been dealt with."

Florina raised a brow confused that the headmaster can be persuaded that easily. "Aand? Are you going to tell me how you got him to change his mind?"

David gave her an apologetic smile and shook his head softly. She nodded giving him a weak smile in return. After a few moments, she sighed.

"At least he is allowing you to be with me. I...I definitely need this now, more friends to talk to and be with."

He beamed at her and nodded in understanding.

"Yes David, I would really love to spend the summer with you," the emerald eyes shone brighter than thousand suns.

"Buut... on one condition," the twinkle in the emerald eyes were immediately extinguished "promise me you will show me around the muggle sweet shops. Maybe buy me an ice cream," Florina smirked at him.

He laughed out loud nodding, "Of course I can do that you silly girl. I will buy you an ice cream truck if I had to -"

A whoosh sound suddenly erupted from behind them making them both turn. It was a ghost and he was panting heavily as if he ran a hundred marathons. Rose immediately moved to the ghost staring intensely at him.

"Davies?" Florina asked in surprise.

"Prim, quickly take Florina and hide her away from here!" the ghost exclaimed almost immediately once he spotted the fairy.

"What?" Rose asked her face full of concern not taking her eyes off the ghost who was struggling to breath.

"Do as I say!" he exclaimed more frantically "NOW! They are coming for her, there is no time."

"Who are you and who is that Prim?" David asked as he came forward to face the ghost.

"CANNOT YOU HEAR ME PRIM? I SAID NOW!" the ghost yelled making the trio jump.

Not needing to be told thrice, Rose flew to her friend at once and held onto her tightly not caring for David's presence. Just as she was about to fly with her carrier, another whoosh sound erupted beside Davies.

He turned to his right and let out a sigh of defeat. "We are too late," he whispered.

A creature, as short as a house elf stood in front of them, their expression indifferent. It was a fairy judging by its wings that were fluttering softly behind it. Similar to a moth, the fairy closed its wings, a neat fold of cyan behind its tiny frame. It's skin was the colour of a morning latte yet it's hair was almost translucent, glowing white in the sunlight.

It was holding a huge scroll in its hands and stepped forward to Rose. When Rose saw the fairy, she gulped evidently in slight fear. The fairy took out the gigantic scroll and unfolded it and it rolled over the ground.

The tiny fairy began reading in an extremely high pitched voice, "Miss Prim Rose, you are hereby summoned by the Queen of the Fairy Land to be escorted by me to our homeland to hear of our queen's final decision regarding the human Florina Avada Woods's fate."

Rose's heart skipped a beat and she visibly swallowed. Trying her best to not break down into tears, Rose curtly nodded and gave her best friend one final glance. That glance held a lot of meaning to the witch. She felt like her fairy was giving her farewell. Florina was suddenly engulfed by fear that she will never see Rose again. And more terrifyingly, her best friend was sharing the exact same look with Florina.

Wordlessly, it was as if they were saying their silent goodbyes.

The ghost on the other hand was beyond enraged but tried his best not to act on it. He subtly went to stand beside Florina as a sort of an emotional support empathizing with the witch.

When he tried to hold Florina's hand however, the tiny fairy immediately took notice and shrieked, "All beings living or dead may not touch nor interact with the human girl on the queen's orders."

Davies nodded at the fairy. The tiny creature looked up at Rose and offered its hand to her. Rose was looking from the fairy's hand to her best friend, her eyes watering. Before she held onto the creature's outstretched hand, she gave Florina a faint smile and whispered, "I love you."

Without waiting for Florina's response, Rose took the hand and both of them vanished immediately from sight leaving a very tearful Florina behind.

*******

"Oh my dear child," Nixie said in her elegant seductive voice "you finally made it. I knew you cannot keep your queen waiting."

"Of course your highness," Rose gave her a faint smile as she bowed low.

The fairy saw Queen Nixie sitting on her throne made of flowers and green vines smiling elegantly at her. Once Rose straightened herself, she spotted the two guards - that should be guarding the queen's entrance - standing beside Nixie instead.

They left their posts, the fairy thought, but why?

Sudden fear engulfed the fairy. She felt herself questioning the queen's motives, similar to the many times she did back at Hogwarts. But when the fairy was at Hogwarts with her best friend, things were different. All the scenarios that the fairy made in her head were just that - scenarios. Speculations.

They were just the fairy's fears.

But when the fairy arrived at her homeland and saw the queen being guarded, it sent chills down her spine. It was as if the fairy's fear were molded into reality.

Oh God Nixie...what are you planning to do with Florina?

The Queen - who can almost always read her fairies minds - smiled intensely at Rose in response without uttering a single word.

***********

"Davies!" Florina exclaimed.

She turned to the ghost whom turned extremely white which wasn't physically possibly since he was already translucent. He stared back at the witch in extreme fear and unease. His look sent chills down the witch's spine. She got closer to him and swallowed hard.

"Davies...is...is Rose going to be fine?" she whispered softly trying her best to hide the panic in her voice.

David got closer to the witch and silently held her hand as a moral support. He didn't utter a word since the ghost's arrival as he sensed the extreme tension hanging in the air. He also didn't witness the encounter between Rose and Nixie's messenger but he certainly saw the ghost asking the fairy to hide her carrier.

Only it was too late for both the witch and the fairy.

The ghost went mute shaking his head. He took a deep breath "Florina, it's not Rose whom you should be worried about. Worry about yourself...your safety."

At that, David left Florina's hand and came forward. He asked calmly, "Who are you?"

Davies turned to him perplexed. He didn't recognize the wizard. Taking a deeper look at the handsome features, he immediately recalled whom he was.

Davies gave the wizard a sad smile, "You might not remember me but we met in my cave. Unfortunately you were unconscious so we couldn't meet properly."

"What on earth are you talking about?" David shot immediately.

Davies however didn't respond and turned to Florina for clarification.

She in turn, turned to the emerald eyed wizard and said quickly, "We met him after Severus knocked you out with his spell back in Antarctica. We entered the ghost's cave with you unconscious."

Enraged by the memory, David frowned nodding.

"That still doesn't answer my question though," David stood in front of the dimly lit ghost "who are you and what's your name?"

The ghost gave him a greeting nod, "Oh how rude of me, I haven't introduced myself yet. My good friend, my name is Davies Agrippa, Aug -"

"Augustus Agrippa's brother" David interrupted in a whisper. The ghost nodded his smile wavering.

"Davies, please keep the pleasantries aside and focus here," Florina frowned at the ghost "Why is Nixie sending a messenger to take Rose and why did you ask her to hide me?" Florina's urgency was extremely evident in her voice.

David was looking between the two extremely puzzled. He however saw that Florina wasn't in the mood to explain so he respected her desire and remained silent.

"Of course. My apologies," Davies turned to the blue eyed witch.

"I first need to take you to a safe place before I could disclose this information my good lady. This news cannot be heard by any human other than you."

The ghost was clearly speaking about David and he immediately understood. Florina turned to the emerald eyed wizard who nodded at her encouraging her to go with the ghost. She turned back to the ghost and nodded without a single word.

Davies touched the witch's hand but since he was a translucent being, his hand went right through hers.

She gave him a puzzled look. He smiled in response "Don't worry my dear lady, I can still touch you like that." She nodded.

The ghost turned to David and bowed, "I am glad to make your acquaintance mister David. I wish we could have met in better circumstances."

"It's alright," David shook his head "You are certainly much different than your brother I will give you that."

Davies smiled in response and turned to the witch, "Are you ready?" he asked softly.

"Yes Da-"

"Wait!" David suddenly exclaimed making both the ghost and the witch turn to him.

"Am...am I going to see you again Flora?" he asked almost in a whisper slight fear and concern evident in his voice.

Florina gave him a weak smile, "I hope so."

She turned to the ghost and nodded to him signalling that she is ready for him to take her. With a single swish from his withered cloak, both of them disappeared in a flash.

"So my child since you arrived safely, we can get started," Nixie got up from her throne and walked elegantly towards the blonde haired fairy. With every step forward, Rose's heart skipped a beat.

The queen was walking towards the hazel eyed fairy with her guards behind her. Nixie's beautiful twin female Kamalas were nowhere near her, only her male Kamalas were by her side.

Once the queen stood in front of Rose, the fairy could clearly see the blood red in her queen's eyes. They were shinning more brightly and more happily than ever before.

With an elegant smile, Nixie took out her fairy wand and swished it twice tapping the fairy's shoulder after every swish. "Prim Rose, fairy of the Superior Human's Saviours division, you stand before me awaiting your queen's decision regarding the fate of your human carrier Florina Avada Woods. Today, after nine months, we are pleased to inform you that we have finally made a decision."

"Simply put my dear lady," Davies got closer to the witch once they arrived to a secluded area in the forbidden forest "Nixie needs to act on your curse somehow. She knows that Lucifer is descending to Earth himself to finalize the curse on you. That is making her more frantic. I don't know if Rose told you this but after she banished Rose, Nixie told her that she is going to decide your fate."

"My fate?" Florina asked perplexed.

"Yes," Davies nodded "it means that they are going to decide whether you are going to pose as a threat to them or not. Whether they can trust you and trust that you will stay the same after Lucifer's visit or not."

"We have heard from our investigative division that your carrier's curse will be finalized by the overlord Lucifer himself -"

Rose interrupted immediately "Yes your highness I can explain -"

Nixie held her hand up at once silencing Rose. She continued to smile at her shaking her head, "There is no need to elaborate my dear child. Our division have already told us everything we need to know."

"Nixie is by now probably telling her that her decision is based upon Lucifer's descend."

"But Davies," Florina said "why does that matter to her that much? Why does she care?"

The ghost sighed, "Oh my dear lady, this change of events is very crucial to the fairy land. She fears that if he finalizes the curse himself and gives you the thirteen curse commandments, you might become his servant. You might turn to the evil side."

"Of course my dear child you are fully aware that if your carrier, an Evilingston heir comes into contact with the evil overlord himself, she might turn to him and serve him like all the other Evilingston females before her."

"But your highness I told you before that she is different. My queen...I implore you to see this from a different prospective. I fully asked her if she would kill her daughter to save herself from the curse and she said no," Rose was on the verge of tears "Florina refused to take her daughter's own life to get rid of her curse. That MUST account for something -"

"Oh how silly my children can get, don't you agree gentlemen" Nixie addressed her male guards - Kamalas. They nodded.

"So Rose will try to convince her I won't turn on them but Nixie won't listen to a word she says," Florina hung her head low in defeat.

"Naturally," Davies nodded sadness evident in his voice "If anything, she will go as far as to mock her for having a kind heart and good intentions."

"But that's awful!" Florina exclaimed softly.

"Can you blame her my good lady? We all do very questionable things when we are backed into a corner. Fear. Nixie is acting on pure fear and you are well aware that fairies can only process one emotion at a time."

Nixie gave Rose a warm smile, "I have already made my decision my precious child. Nothing you will say now will add anything new nor change that solid fact I am afraid."

"So what is going to be her decision?" Florina asked in a voice higher than a whisper terrified of the answer.

The ghost looked up at her and gave her a faint smile.

"Prim Rose, fairy of the Superior Human's Saviours division, for the safety of the fairy land and all of its residents, we have decided to..."

"She decided to..."

"immediately eliminate the target that has been plaguing our fate since her birth."

"immediately kill you Florina Woods."
