CHAPTER 13 : A Half Of A Whole*

Florina fell to the ground.

Many visions were racing themselves in her mind all at once. All of them were pouring into one and only feeling. Recognition.

'I have been here before,' she whispered to herself shivering slightly.

'I have seen this. I have seen you.' She continued to repeat that over and over to no one. Suddenly it hit her... those weren't visions. Those were memories, someone else's memories, but whom?

As she was trying to focus on each one, a very particularly unique memory grew stronger and more vivid in her head.

A woman, her eyes as blue as the deep ocean and had no pupils. They were mesmerizing. Her hair was hanging low below her waist, amber and shinning streaks in the sunlight. She was holding a book. She seemed very happy, victorious. But her face seemed very familiar."

"I have seen her before," I said louder. I couldn't see myself, I could only see her. As if I was witnessing all of this from her own point of view. She was standing in front of the mirror and a hideous ghost appeared to her. She wasn't terrified of him at all but rather... pleased. It gave a peculiar gaze and his gaze fell to the book she was clutching in her hands.

"Where did you find that?" it asked angrily, it's voice high pitched.

The woman replied, her voice muffled and disassembled. But whatever was the reply given to the ghost, he was rendered speechless.

She gave him a venomous smirk and held the book in front of her to show him. She then pointed at the title 'Portrait Of Markov' which was clearly visible reflecting off of the mirror.

The ghost kept staring back at her, wide eyed. She then asked him a question, her smirk never fading away. It kept its intense and befuddled gaze on her. That moment didn't last long however as it finally shock its head refusing to answer.

Suddenly her smirk fell and it was replaced with anger. I have seen that same angry face before. 'She has a very short temper,' I concluded at once in my head.

Her gaze suddenly fell on me. She just stared without blinking. I didn't even notice that the ghost disappeared. She replaced him smirking devilishly at me from inside the mirror. It was just me and her staring at each other. I couldn't move or blink. All I could do was to stare back at her deep ocean blue orbs. After a few moments, I managed to croak, "Who... Who are you?"

Her smirk intensified as she said in a low familiar voice, "Look in the mirror."

My voice! That was my voice!

"Oh for Godric's sake witch, how many times are you going to faint?" the emerald eyed wizard growled as he sat down beside the unconscious witch.

He kept shaking her to oblivion, shouting louder for her to respond. He was surrounded by Bubbles the elf who was petrified, Rose who was murmuring 'I knew this would happen. But did she listen to me, NO!'

The seemingly indifferent potions master who was startled by the witch's scream and came inside running. And finally the emerald-eyed wizard, who too heard the scream and tumbled his way into the darkness until he found the bathroom.

"Hug her!" David exclaimed suddenly to the other wizard who was standing observing the fainted body intently.

Severus snorted, "It doesn't work like that dunderhead. Something must have happened to her different than before," he frowned lazily gesturing at the witch "I am not just an energy machine for her highness."

Rose and Bubbles both nodded at his brilliance. He was right. Florina didn't deplete her energy nor she was forced to.

The witch in David's arms eventually regained her consciousness. Startled and glad at the same time, he hugged her tightly. Both Rose and the elf gasped in surprise. Severus simply rolled his eyes and mumbled something similar to 'Drama Queen.'

Rose however wasn't too pleased with the contact and nudged Bubbles to do something. Before the bubbly elf could interfere, Florina whispered over David's shoulders still slightly dizzy "What happened?"

Realizing that she was still in his arms, he let her go at once and moved a few inches away from her. "You screamed and woke us all up," he said after an uncomfortable moment of silence. "We raced in here to find you fainted on the ground."

Florina slowly nodded trying to piece out any memory before she fainted but somehow couldn't recall anything. She looked at each and every one of the faces that were staring up at her. Her gaze then landed on the mirror and she became wide eyed.

"I remember now," she mumbled but only the potion's master caught it.

"Care to share Woods?" he said impatiently.

She stood up at once - which was not a very smart idea - her brain was still regaining its energy and she tumbled sideways. Severus's strong hands caught her just in time and she nodded.

"Sir" she turned to him her breath short "The...The mirror. I saw a ghost in the mirror. Where did he go?"

The now scowling wizard sighed, "A ghost Woods? There was no ghost when we came here. Maybe you hit your –'

"I know what I saw!" she exclaimed angrily "It was an ugly looking ghost. It made banging noises that woke me up in the middle of the night. When I got up to investigate and arrived at the bathroom, I saw him right here," she pointed at the empty mirror that showed off just their reflection "staring back at me."

David however had a totally different question in mind. "That was what made you scream?" he snickered. "Haven't you seen a ghost before? They are all around Hogwarts Woods."

Both her and Severus chose to ignore him, but not before giving him one of their famous glares. In fact, everybody in the room was glaring at him even the invisible Rose, who shook her head. The air around the room started to feel light again as the tension slowly melted.

They all raced out of the bathroom and into the tiny living room as everyone started to put on their heavy duty clothes and gear. Florina looked out the window to see it was already dawn. The sun was slowly rising and the snow around the trees were morphed into tiny droplets of water.

She knew it was a rare sight, so she accioed a chair and sat in front of the window and straddled her legs like a child enjoying the view. The foggy air cleared away and the fantastic view of the mountains were left behind. At that moment, she wished she owned a camera just to capture the magnificence of the view around her.

The mountains were filling the field and the trees were standing tall and firm in the snowy ground. A few winter animals were swimming in a little frozen lake that wasn't completely frozen at the moment now that the sun melted part of it. That breath taking moment made her lose her train of thought.

She was forcing her brain before to remember exactly what happened after she fainted but all she could see was blank.

She was absolutely mesmerized by the beauty unfolding itself gracefully. All she wanted at that moment, was to get closer to the stunning view. She was yearning for fresh air and got up to open the window.

Just as she was about to do so, Severus immediately pulled her away preventing her from that delight. He held her outstretched hands swiftly before they were completely burned in the everlasting fire.

"Have you gone mad?!" he growled bringing her back to her senses. She looked from him to the fire and backed away even further terrified.

"I was trying to open the window to get some fresh air," she said timidly.

She was shocked that the view suddenly disappeared and what laid in front of her instead was a raging fire ready to burn anything coming into contact with it. She tilted her head sideways to see herself in the scowling wizard's arms shaking his head in disappointment.

Turning from him to the tiny rugged window, she saw it was still the middle of the night. And even more, she was further away from it than she was a few moments ago when she was in her "trance".

She looked up at Severus once more, to see him dressed in his normal attire and wasn't wearing his winter gear. Rose and Bubbles were sitting on the couch while David was nowhere to be seen.

'Was I imagining it all?' she whispered sadly. 'I am not mad. I became better. Why does this place wants to convince me I am mad?'

"Sir I swear...that's what I saw,"  she moved away from him forcefully "I...I am not mad. I was –"

"I believe you," he responded immediately his eyes locked with hers. He got closer to her until they were inches apart and whispered "Whatever is in here, it's trying to...it's trying to kill us Florina. It's trying to get rid of us. I can almost feel the negative energy surrounding us. We have to get out of here. Now!"

She was taken back by his bold statement but it got her to immediately wonder, was he seeing it too? Were they all seeing it?

So I wasn't going mad, we all are, she concluded to herself.

That thought was very captivating that she didn't notice how the potion's master addressed her by her first name.

"Guys! Come here quick!" David's shriek came from the bathroom. Glancing over at one other once, they ran to the bathroom with Rose and Bubbles on toe.

They immediately stopped in their tracks petrified of what they witnessed. An ugly ghost was staring right back at them in the mirror. He was smirking at each and every one of them. But as soon as his eyes laid on Florina, his smirk immediately died down and his gaze was filled with fear.

"I knew I wasn't imagining things!" Florina exclaimed while the others were looking from her to the ghost. As a matter of fact, all of them couldn't stop staring at the Ghost's reaction when it alternated between fear and surprise.

Rose however had a different reaction to the ghost's appearance which was completely missed by Florina. It was hatred. Complete loathing was drawn on every inch of her face. She kept her constant glare at him. Luckily, it was missed by him as his full attention fell on the witch who stared back in confusion.

Once Florina noticed the long uncomfortable glances, she blushed and turned to the others particularly Severus who couldn't take his eyes off from either of them. Florina's sight wandered to each one of them until her gaze landed on Rose. She was taken aback by what she saw, her sweet fairy was shooting deathly glares at the ugly ghost. The ghost followed Florina's gaze until it landed on the fairy. He was petrified in place.

Prim Rose? he wondered. Why is she with Stella? They got back together? I thought they were separated long time ago.

Rose took notice of Florina's lingering gaze and immediately broken hers with the ugly ghost. She gave her carrier a weak smile to erase suspicion. Well, this is another thing she will definitely ask about, she thought angrily.

Curse that old man Dumbledore! If he hadn't given Florina that apprehensive task, we wouldn't have been here. She would have been safe. Oh God! she suddenly remembered, Nixie! How can I forget about her? If she hears from that stupid Agrippa that he saw Florina and reported back, I will be doomed!

Florina wasn't supposed to know about him. She wasn't supposed to know about our contract with the elfish world either. And she definitely isn't supposed to know about... Her. Oh God, I hope Nixie forgives me. I am sure she won't.

My job was very clear, keep Florina safe and ignorant until the right time. Now thanks to that old man, one thing will lead to the other. I won't be surprised if that no-good-for-anything Agrippa starts blabbing about—

"Prim Rose? And Miss Wilson?" his voice was high pitched looking between Florina and her fairy. Everyone immediately turned to Florina who was just as clueless as they were.
