P.O.V Jerome

“I have a friend who is a Bacca and she hasn’t hurt anyone one.” I looked at the teacher hoping he would say something helpful. “Then you haven’t seen them what they can really do.” my eyes grew wide then back to normal so no one would notice. My real mom would hate seeing me with these Bajan’s. They have brought many pains to our family, better yet she would kill me if she knew about Samantha. But she was my best friend and I know she wouldn’t care if I told her I was a-a Bacca. Right? The teacher turned around and started to write down stuff on the black board. The girl put her head down on the desk and side looked at me. She smiled and then relooked at the teacher.

{Time Lapse}

During the lunch time I spotted the girl being picked on by the bullies from before. I looked at Samantha who was reading a book of hers, she was always reading.

“I am going to help that girl.” I whispered to Samantha. She looked up from her book and looked over. “Don’t bother she is friends with a Bacca, she is getting what she needs." I looked down at my hands, only if you knew. I stood up and walked over the bullies pushing them off the girl and putting my hand out for her. I just wish they would just leave it alone. “Oh big man wants to help the traitor. So sweet” the girl grabbed my arm and I looked down at her. “No one deserves to be bullied, if they like a Bacca or not.” I couldn’t belive that came out of my own mouth. A teacher walked into the cafeteria and the boys left.

“Thank you.” the girl whispered. I nodded and brought her over to the table that Samantha sat. She looked up and I could hear her sigh. “Hi, you are the girl from my class right?” she asked the girl. “Ya, my name is Sky,” she told them. She took out an amulet and put it around her neck. It was gold, and a purple crystal inside of it. “Oh! Can I know who saved me?” she looked at me. “My name is Jerome.” I told her. She smiled and looked at the bullies eyeing us from a different table. God thoses guys would not give up.

P.O.V Samantha

I watched as Jerome walked over to the table and pull the girl away from the bullies. He did that once for me a long time ago, that is how we became best friends. She sat down before Jerome did and looked at me with surprise. Jerome sat down next to her and looked at her then me. I didn't a quick sigh and smiled.

“Hi, you are the girl from my class right?” I broke the silence at the table. “Ya, my name is Sky.” she told us. I watched as she took out an amulet and put it around her neck.”I am Samantha” I told her with another smile back “Oh!  Can I know who saved me?” she looked at him with a smile on her face. “My name is Jerome.” he told her. She smiled at him, then looked at me. I must of had a look on my face or something.

“ I am the crazy one who wanted to know about the Bacca’s, but I wasn’t lying. You can tease me, I have been teased all my life, but I am still friends with her. Thing might change after I am out of this school though.” she stopped talking, and looked down at her hands. Jerome did the same thing, and looked down at his hand. A long silence went over the table and then the bell rung.

“Thanks for saving me again, Jerome.” he smiled and nodded. I packed up my things and watched Sky leave us. “You like her. I teased Jerome. His face turned red like a tomato. “I will see you at class,” I told him “ I am going to my locker first” Jerome nodded and walked after Sky. I was happy for him.

P.O.V Jerome

I caught up with Sky way out of breath. She giggled and looked at me, stopping for a second. “Where is Samantha?” she asked me. I looked up and shrugged my shoulder. “She said I will see you at class.” Sky smiled we started to walk again. I knew she was friends with a Bacca, but I couldn’t even trust my best friend, she has known me longer. Sky looked at me and her expression was uneasy. “Are you okay Jerome? Your face just turned white.” I forced a smile and looked at her. “I am fine, sorry something came to my mind.” she tilted her head, but soon just gave up. We reached our classroom and walked in. I looked around the room to find Samantha, but she wasn’t there. I just sighed telling myself she is at her locker. I sat down in my seat, and Sky sat next to me leaving an open chair for Samantha. The mysterious boy ran in and went to the back chair again hiding his face. I looked at Sky who didn’t notice him walk in.

“Hey Sky, do you know that person who sits in the back?” I asked her. She shook her head. “I think his name is Mitch or something like that.” she whispered back. Samantha walked in covering her right eye. I stood up and grabbed her arm away from the her eye seeing it all bloody and swollen. I could also see that her eye was still pure white.

“What happened?” I asked her. She smiled a little. “Just some boys who don’t like me.” Samantha told me with a weak smile. Sky stood up and walked over to us. “We should take you to the nurse.” I nodded and told Sky to sit back down so we had someone to tell the teacher where we went. Before we left I looked at the boy, or Mitch. He was looking at me and Samantha running out of the room.

P.O.V Samantha

I will see you at class,” I told him “ I am going to my locker first” Jerome nodded and walked after Sky. I was happy for him. I grabbed the rest of my things and went to my locker. I looked through my things making sure I didn’t miss anything for the next classes. I heard heavy footsteps that stopped behind me, and I turned around thinking it was Jerome, but I was wrong. One of the boys grabbed my arm and pulled me to his face.

“Hey big mans girl friend.” his breath smelled like rotten flesh. “What should we do with her boys? She was all tough and now she is helpless.” I heard the other guys laugh. I felt a sharp pain running through my right eye. My whole body fell onto the floor in pain. I took a deep breath in and then back out again, trying, so very hard to control my anger. “See she can’t do sh*t.” another guy spoke up. I lifted my head and looked at the guys.

“That is where you are wrong.” I hissed at the four of them. I don't remember what all happened, but after I felt weak. I slowly headed to class to get Jerome. I covered my right eye that was in a lot of pain. I. quickly, walked into the classroom and Jerome ran up to, with a worried look on his face. “What happened?” he took my hand off my eye. He looked at me and I smiled. “Just some boys who don’t like me.” I told him. He had me recover my eye. Sky got up and ran over, “We should take you to the nurse.” she stated. Jerome asked her to wait here and tell the teacher where we were heading. He pushed me out the door and headed to the nurses office.

“I am fine Jerome, really I…” he cut me off stopping us in the hallway. “Your eye is still white.” he looked at my with concern. My left eye widen hearing that. “I-I couldn’t stop-stop him.” I stammered. Jerome game me a soft hug. “It is okay, lets just get you checked out.” We got to the nurses office and she sat me down. I refused to take my hand down from my eye.

“Honey I need to see your eye.” she told me in a soft voice. Jerome looked at me and then the nurse. “She is scared on what you might think of her,” he told the nurse “About her eye.” the nurse looked at Jerome and then back at me. Idiot what are you thinking? I let the nurse move my hand away, and the look on her face when she saw. This would be the end to my schooling life. She quickly changed her expression and started to work. She stopped and looked at Jerome for a second then back at me. “You play good, my friend.” she told Jerome.
