Chapter 13- Stressed

Author's Note- I'M BACK! IT'S BEEN TOO LONG BUT HERE I AM! LET'S DO THIS!
Also, the song above is called 'Stressed Out' By Twenty One Pilots which I don't normally do this but it really fit what I was going for so I just put it in. Plus, I like the song. Anyways, here's the actual story.

KrakenKid

"See? Told you it'd come back in no time."

Getting up, I tested the newly grown tentacle, swimming around at different speeds. Eventually, I was satisfied. "Just as good as the old one. Maybe even better!"

The penguin watched with interest and finally smiled. "Whoa... You can just do that? That's so cool! I can't grow back a flipper even if I had a million bazillion years and you can do it in like two days!"

I chuckled. "Thanks. It is pretty cool isn't it?" The younger Cody nodded vigorously.

"Yeah! You must be so popular around Atlantis!"

I froze up at the sentence. Though Cody might have not been great at noticing things or taking hints, this was the one time that he did. "What? Are you not? Is that a regular thing there?"

Even though I was submerged in water, my mouth suddenly felt dry. "I-It used to be." I got it out. The brown eyes stared up in wonder. "There used to be thousands just like me. All people who could do it. Who could grow back their tentacles. Now, well," For some reason, I laughed. "I was the last one for a really long time but then there's my son who became one not too long ago."

"Really? Thousands like you? What happened?"

What happened? Those words seemed to repeat in my head like a broken record.

What happened?

"Mom?" I squeaked, getting the taller purple beings attention. Though the lady was previously rushing around the house on the phone and constantly looking out the window, she finally stopped at the sight of me.

Something flashed in her eyes before a calming smile appeared on her face. "Y-yes sweetie?"

"What's going on? Who are you talking to?" The kraken froze in her tracks and glanced outside again.

"Just a family friend. You remember Mark right?" I nodded. "He was just telling me somethings."

"Like what?"

"..." The women finally sighed and made her way over to the couch in the living room. Sitting down, she signaled me over. When I seated myself besides her, Mom began to speak again. "Remember how I said that some krakens aren't good people and others tend to judge us because of that?" I nodded.

"Yep! I remember you told me to never let anyone treat me lower than I am." A smile appeared on her face, much bigger than the last one.

"That's right! I'm so proud you remembered! On the topic of that, Atlantis is having serious troubles with those people and it's affecting how they view and treat us. Mark thinks that they don't trust us anymore and he even got sent home during work because of it. I'm a little scared on how this will all go down so perhaps you should pack somethings. Go to your room and gather anything you think you'll need."

"Need for what Mom?"

"Act like we're going camping for a while. No electronics!"

Rushing up the stairs, I grabbed my favorite toys, a pillow and some blankets and came back down. "Done!" I cried. No response came. Shrugging, I plopped back down on the cushions, taking out my squid toy and playing with it.

"KrakenKid! Honey, come here!"

Perking up, I followed the voice to find my Mom with a backpack in hand. She handed it to me and I slipped it on. "That has food, drinks and I put some matches as well just in case and some other things. Now we're going some place for a little while okay? Mommy wants you to be protected." I nodded and she led me out of the house.

Moving further and further away from home, we traveled to the other side of the Atlantis, all the way to Sector Four. Along the way, the female kraken noticed something. "Hey sweetie?"

"Hm?"

"Where did that mark come from? Is it a bruise or a cut? It's a little hard to se-"

Sudden bad memories flooded back and I flinched away from her touch. "Hey! Don't touch that! It's from when I fell down the stairs, remember? Ask Dad, he'll say the same."

The women blinked. "But that doesn't...-" She looked deep into my yellow eyes, her orange one's locking on. Once again, something flickered but she acted like she was dismissing it. I knew her too well to know it was the only thing on her mind. As we walked, I did my best to keep my heart rate down.

Finally, we arrived at a cave, vines sprouting inside.

"Atlantis doesn't find anything in this cave interesting and quit checking it awhile ago. I came here a week ago and found a little cave for us. Come here." She led me inside and through the many twists, showed me a hidden area behind a rock.

"Okay, you stay here. I need to go back and... Check a couple of things okay? I promise I'll be back!"

I gulped and nodded, watching my own mother leave my sight.

She never came back.

****

"Let's just say that Atlantis wasn't a fan of my kind."

"Oh... That's a shame." I nodded along with him. Oh, you have no idea. "But are you going to go back? To Atlantis?"

"Uh... Not sure yet. What's going on with you? Aren't you going to go home?"

Cody paused, eyes falling to the floor. "I don't know..." He took a deep breath before speaking again. "I know my Mom is probably worried and all but... I don't know what to do. We had the worst fight we've ever had." I gave him a look to continue.

"I was in this daycare for a while and apparently it was teaching kids how to be evil or something? I went with it for a while but I didn't really want to be evil. I wanted to be good! Or at least a good villain. I met two friends there and though one had no way to keep in touch, the other did! He was my best friend, but then he had to move to Atlantis or something. Come to think of it, I haven't heard back from him in months... Kinda forgetting what he looks like... Or is like... Anyways, I remembered that I was born in Atlantis and lived there for a while so I tried to get my Mom to go back. The first couple times she just told me we couldn't. Overtime, I learned something... You might not know this but I'm actually a prince there! Then I got it in my head that I have to help everyone and I need to return and everything just kinda crashed down on me. The pressure was too much so I took it out on my Mom and we fought. I might have said somethings that anyone should ever say, especially to someone they care about. In the end, I couldn't face her again so I just took my stuff and ran. I found this spot, that one tree for food and the next day,"

A slight smile appeared on his face as he looked up. "I found you!"

I nodded but couldn't keep it in any longer. "Cody, you need to go back. Your Mom has got to be going crazy looking for you!"

"But... I don't know if I'm ready..." His brown eyes drifted to the ground.

I sighed. "Look Maverick, I'm going to be frank with you: If I could talk to my Mom, I'd do it in a heartbeat but I can't anymore. You however, can. You can't just hide forever! You have to face it at some point, so might as well do it. If it makes you feel better, I can come with."

Cody blinked but reacted differently than I expected. Slowly looking back up at me, he had a weird look on his face.

"... I never told you my last name."

********************************************

Short chapter I know, but I really wanted to leave it at that spot because DANG THAT'S A GOOD CLIFFHANGER. I mean it's not like I shot a person or something but still. Plus, it expanded the other chapter so it works.

Orig anally, there wasn't going to be a memory/flashback but it just kinda happened and I kept it!

I do want to say that this book will be ending in a couple of chapters and there's either  going to be an epilogue or squeal, still figuring that out because there are somethings I need to explain once it's done. It all depends on how much I need to say after it's all said and done.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this! Be sure to comment and tell me how I did and I will see ya'll in the next chapter, which should be coming soon-ish? Bye!
