♣FIVE♣
John's POV
"He won't even let me try! I attempted to make his coffee the other day and then offered to pay for his when I found out he didn't like the kind I made." I complain to the French and Irish men sitting across from me.
We were in some cafe on campus, procrastinating going to our first class of college.
"Mon ami, you have to understand Alexander has a very, very thick wall set up. He's been hurt quite a bit." Lafayette explains to me.
I scoff and poke at my food with my fork. "Yeah right. Is that why he asked Elizabeth Schuyler out?" I mumble to myself.
"Wait..Are you, jealous?" Hercules asks me, chuckling. I guess I didn't say it quite to myself.
I blush and look up, frowning. "No! Why would I be jealous?" I ask.
"Are you sure? You sound jealous to me." Lafayette snickers.
I cross my arms, still blushing. "I have nothing to be jealous of."
"Oh, you could be jealous that Alex is going on a date with Elizabeth instead of..Well.." Hercules waits for me to answer.
My eyes widen as I blush more. "No, I do not like Hamilton. Hell, I can't even stand that guy." I turn quickly to Lafayette. "No offence."
Lafayette shrugs. "None taken. Because I know you don't actually hate him."
"John has a crush!" Hercules practically shouts and I punch his arm. I thought he was shy at first, but boy was I wrong.
"Shut up, Herc!" I whisper shout at him, earning a chuckle from both him and Lafayette. Then, out of nowhere, Hamilton comes into the cafe.
I turn away, but Lafayette waves him over. "Alexander, over here!" He calls out to him.
I glare at Lafayette and then put my hoodie on, pretending to be very interested in my food. Hamilton comes over and sits down next to me. "What's up?"
"Not you, Jesus you're shorter than I thought." Hercules mumbles.
"I'm sorry? I didn't hear that." Hamilton asks, leaning in a little.
"Oh, nothing. You?" He quickly replies, covering up his previous statement.
He nods. "Not much. I'm Alexander, by the way." He says before extending his hand towards Hercules.
Hercules shakes it and replied with, "I'm Hercules."
"Nice to meet you." Hamilton says, smiling. I don't know what game he's trying to play right now, but I don't like it. "Well, I've got to get going. I'm just picking up coffee for Eliza. See you later, Laf and Hercules." He pauses and stands up before nodding at me. "Laurens."
He then walks away smugly and I roll my eyes. "What the hell was that?" I ask.
Lafayette shrugs. "I have no idea. He's never been so friendly to any stranger before."
"Hey, I'm a very likable person!" Hercules defends himself.
"Yes, you are." Lafayette smiles at him. "But mon ami, you must understand Alex doesn't smile. At anyone. He doesn't even smile at me."
Hercules shrugs. "Maybe he's just happy because he has a girlfriend now?"
"Woah, they're not actually a thing, he just asked her out. Who knows, they could go on one date and figure out they're just not right for each other!" I object.
They both smirk at me. "Wow, you are crushing hard on Alexander." Hercules chuckles.
I blush madly and hide my face in my hands. "Shut. Up." I mumble.

'Hey, how are you today?'
I read over my arm again. My soulmate was writing me first. This hasn't happened since I was twelve.
We had talked quite a bit the past few days, though. It was nice getting to know them.
'I'm doing okay. How about you?'
'I have been better, but it's great now that I'm talking to you.'
I smile at this. And then frown.
'What's wrong?' I ask.
'Oh, nothing. Just overthinking and overwhelmed by school.'
I nod at this. 'I see. So school already started for you?'
The next reply took a little bit longer. It's almost as if they were hesitating to write down a response.
'Yeah, it started a couple weeks ago. It snows pretty bad here in the winter, so we like to start a little bit earlier.'
I go to write back, but am interrupted when someone knocks on the door. I raise an eyebrow and take out my earbuds. Alex was at Elizabeth's dorm and Lafayette and Hercules both have class, so I don't know who could be here.
I go and open the door, only to be greeted by a tall man in a bright purple shirt.
"Wow that's a lot of purple.." I mumble.
He frowns. "It's magenta, fyi." He scoffs and then looks around. "What, Hamilton isn't in here?" He asks.
I shake my head. "Nah, he's over at the Schuylers' dorm." I say, going to close the door.
"So, you're his roomie?" He asks.
I raise an eyebrow but then sigh. "Unfortunately."
He smirks. "Oh good, you hate him too. We already have something in common." Before I could object, he walks in and then sticks his hand out. "I'm Thomas Jefferson by the way."
I shake his hand slowly. "John Laurens... I'm sorry, is there a reason you're here?"
"Oh, it was to annoy Hamilton, but now I'd rather be here hanging out with you. You seem pretty chill." He says.
I smile. "Uh, thanks!"
He nods and then his phone dings. He pulls it out and sighs. "Sorry, I have to get going. Let me see your phone." He holds out his hand and I frown.
"Why?" I ask, raising an eyebrow at him.
He rolls his eyes. "So I can put my number in your phone, stupid." He says and I nod and hand it to him, feeling dumb for even asking. "There you go. Text me so I have your number."
I nod and then wave at him. "Uh, I guess I'll see you later?" I ask.
He nods and smiles. "Of course! Nice meeting you, John!"
"You too, Thomas." He exits and I close the door, wondering what the hell just happened.
I guess it's never a bad thing to make friends. Even if it's because you bonded over hating the same person.
