Chapter 17: Dreamless Sleep

Disclaimer: HP isn't mine, I'm afraid...I would be writing a lot better if I were JK Rowling :P

------------------

Blaise's POV

It had been three days since Pansy had first shed her disguise of 'Lilia' in front of me.

She looked like...Pansy. Still the same Pansy, but different.

Her face was harder and harsher than I remembered, her straight black hair tied up into a severe bun and her clothes simple and practical. Her jaw seemed to be more angular, with a slightly more stubborn tilt; her dark brown eyes angrier, but also sadder; her nose was as pug-like as ever, but somehow more authoritative; her mouth was slightly twisted up at one end, giving her a harsh, derisive appearance.

"Blaise," She said, looking at me with those deep brown eyes that had never failed to weaken me in our Hogwarts days. "I need help."

I stood up and turned away from her.

This reminded me of the terrible plan I had agreed to all those years before. The plan that was a mistake. A mistake I had paid dearly for. "Pretend to be my boyfriend." She'd beseeched in that slightly hoarse voice of hers. "Until Draco gets jealous and comes back to me. It won't be long!"

Of course I had refused. It was a terrible idea, and I said so. But she turned me around with a well-timed pout and those...those damned eyes, making that damned irresistible expression.

Of course I said yes.

And of course I regretted it.

I had a feeling I was going to regret this too.

I turned back around. "You couldn't have just told me in person as yourself? Why in the name of Merlin did you have to impersonate someone, kidnap, disarm and bind me and then threaten me?"

She looked pleadingly at me. "Blaise..."

"No!" I yelled, my face tightening. "I've had enough of agreeing to your bullshit ideas!"

"How can you say that if you haven't heard what it is yet?" She turned her face aside coolly, sticking her nose into the air.

All of a sudden she was the old Pansy again, the Pansy with the frivolous, prideful air who believed that everyone loved her and would succumb to her every whim. The Pansy who refused to wear or use anything not brand name, going so far as to bring her own culinary to school meals. The Pansy who put on so much make up every morning, she looked like a clown. The Pansy Draco had hated, the Pansy I had learned to hate.

"No! Fuck this! You fucking kidnapped me! I'm not even here out of my own free will!" I snarled. "Send me back!"

She kissed me, her harsh, cold lips melding with mine; our breaths mingling. I opened my mouth to say no, to tell her to stop. She stuck her tongue forcefully into my mouth, licking and biting stiffly. She tasted like Dreamless Sleep Potion.

I pushed her off, hard.

She stumbled and landed on the ground.

"No means no, Pansy." I said coldly. "What were you going to force me to do before I recognized you? Kill? Sell myself out to prostitution? Give you money? What? Were you so desperate you were going to rape me? The bloody world doesn't revolve around you, Pansy!"

"Why are you so cruel to me?" She whispered, kneeling on the ground, her eyes tear-filled and red-rimmed.

I looked at her resigned form. No, not resigned. Just temporarily broken.

I had to remember that. Just temporarily broken.

If I forgot...

"Cruel?" I said, laughing a little. I felt cold all over. Cold, resigned, tired. "No, cruel is when you completely shattered me in Sixth Year. Remember that night? Remember what you said? Remember?"

I jerked her head up harshly with a hand on her jaw. I needed to look into her eyes for this. "I was stupid then. I'm not so stupid now."

"Do you...Do you hate me?"

"Hate you? No, I don't hate you. I'm just...indifferent now."

I let go of my grip on her jaw. "Now lift the wards and let me leave."

She nodded mutely and flicked her wand.

"You know, sometimes I wish I could hate you." I said before turning around to Apparate. "I hope I never see you again."

"The world doesn't revolve around you either, Blaise Zabini."

And that was the last I had heard of her up to now.

So why couldn't I help but feel slightly on edge?

----------------------------

Hermione's POV

I awoke to white and the rancid aftertaste of Dreamless Sleep.

"About... time." A weak, sarcastic voice said from somewhere to my right. "And here I thought... you were never going to wa... wake up."

I sat up slowly to the sight of a worse-for-wear version of Draco Malfoy.

"Where the heck am I?"

"Welcome to the Psycho... Psychopathic ward, Granger!" He said, painfully mocking. "Here, they provide us with the wonderful service of... no food, no water... magic-canceling fields, indestructible, constantly lum... luminous walls that absorb... excretions, and my own ple... pleasant company."

"Oh, and have I mentioned? They don't give us psy... psychiatrists, either." He laughed hysterically.

I frowned at him. He looked much thinner than before, his cheeks were concave and his body seemed a mere bag of bones. He looked...wasted. Exhausted. Delirious.

"Why am I here?"

"They dragged you in. Great fight... you were biting and thrashing like a... like a possessed woman." He grinned abnormally largely, his eyes rimmed with blue-black and his cheeks sallow grey.

"You look good, by the way." He slurred. "Better than...better than before."

I sucked in a surprised breath. He thought I looked better now? But I was...I was fat! I was fatter than before!

"Ugly, useless, pathetic little Mudblood." Bellatrix's voice echoed in my mind as I looked down at my thicker body.

"Still too thin, though." He mumbled wearily. "Need to eat more."

Well, that settled it. He was obviously out of his mind.

I sighed. I wish what he said were true. But how could I be too thin when I was so humongously fat? It wasn't possible!

He, on the other hand, needed food. And hydration.

My eyes caught at a bunch of stoppered potions at a corner of the room. They must have brought them in when they were bringing me here. To taunt me, perhaps?

Well, I wasn't drinking them for sure.

Malfoy, however...he could use it.

"Malfoy." I snapped.

"Mmm?"

"Open your mouth."

"Why?"

"Just open your mouth!"

I uncorked the first potion and sniffed at it. It seemed legitimate enough, with the right colour and smell of a vitamin potion.

I walked over to him, prepared to pour the whole thing down his throat.

"No, wait." He mumbled, his eyes half-closing with exhaustion. "Separate into por... portions. Last...longer."

I nodded, pouring one fifth of the potion into his mouth. "This should last you for around a week."

"You need... to drink too."

"No!" I said firmly, coldly. "I'm not drinking this."

He rolled his eyes half-heartedly. "Feed me... first. Argue... later."

So I fed him one fifth of every potion we had, sans the organ support potion and Skelegrow. I made sure to give him a bit more of the nutrient and weight gain potions. He looked like he needed them.

"How do I look?" He smirked as he swallowed the last potion, looking considerably more chipper but still frighteningly gaunt.

"Like shit." I said matter-of-factly.

He grinned at me cheerfully.

I wondered absently if his time in captivity had addled his brains.

I sat down next to him and watched silently as he finally succumbed to sleep, his eyelids fluttering shut in a surprisingly beautiful manner.

I was surely turning batty.

As batty as the walls were white.

A/N: Tada... a new chappie!!! Yayyyy!! Blaise and Pansy sure seem to have a complicated history, hmm? Wonder what Pansy did to him to make him so mad? And what do you think about the new Dramione developments? Draco thinks Hermione looks "good"... Honest delirium, no? Delirious honesty? Hell yeah!

Alright, I hope you guys enjoyed that chapter, and I'm off prep-ing for school...*sigh* Summer's almost over, and I still haven't done a modicum of homework. I'm going to pay for this horribly.

Well thanks for reading this and for supporting me throughout the book! I'll be back with the next chapter in no time.

Adios amigos!
