Prologue

July 19, 1957:
I look out over the sleeping town, sitting in John's sky blue 1953 Chevrolet Corvette and sigh.

"Alex baby, I gotta tell ya." John smiles over at me. I look into his gorgeous brown eyes and sparkling smile. His skin is perfectly tan and it complements his jet black hair perfectly. "I dated plenty 'a girls in my day but you are by far the best girlfriend I had."

"And you're the best boyfriend, John." I bashfully look down at my forest green pokadot dress. I wore a matching headband and nervously adjusted it. It was rare for someone to like me like this. I'm not exactly the biggest thing in town. In fact, a lot of people don't like me at all.

His strong, warm hand lifts my chin gently and the next thing I feel are his lips on mine. We stay like that for awhile before pulling away.

"I love you." He whispers.

"I love you to the moon and back." snickering, he pulls away. "What?"

"The moon ain't mean a thing, sugar. You don't exactly do through all that much going to the moon."

"What do you know about the moon John?" I ask.

"Not much. But I know it ain't good enough."

"My momma's pie?"

"Nah. What are ya? Five? Think Alex, use that brain of yours." He reaches into his leather jacket pocket and pulls out due backs and a lighter. He takes one cigarette out and lights it, placing the pack back in his pocket.

"Heaven? I love you to Heaven and back?" This he laughs at.

"Damn it Alex. Heaven ain't nothin' threatening." John takes a long draw of the cigarette and blows the butter smoke into the night's air.

"Then what, John?" I lean back in my seat and look up at the sky.

"Are you writin' a book? Stop with the questions. Just think. How 'bout Hell?"

"John! Why would I be goin' to Hell?" I stare at him wide-eyed.

"Well I don't know 'bout you baby," he says as he leans closer to me. "But the plans I have for you are real sinful. So come on, say it."

"Say what, John."

"What I just told ya, darlin'. Say it like you mean it." his face gets closer to mine and I feel a fire begin within me.

"I love you....to Hell and back." His lips press against mine with such force, it takes my breath away. His left hand slides from his side to my back, but it feels like he's holding something. I think nothing of it. Suddenly, he pulls away just a bit.

"We'll see about that." I feel something being forced into my back. I let out a small scream. He pulls out the blade and stabs it back in another area on my back. Black dots dance in my vision.

"John..."

"Now ain't that bite? Go to Hell, Alexandra. Ain't nobody want ya here anyway."

The world goes silent and black.

And then...a light.
