Chapter 10

Naruto helped Tazuna finish the bridge by the end of the next day. He wanted to get back to Konoha. He felt restless, even though it had been nearly two days without sleep. He knew Kakashi was just concerned, but his questioning brought up bad memories.

He was worried. Constantly stuck in the past and worrying for the future. he couldn't allow himself to live in the present until the world was safe.

"Naruto?"

The blond sighed. He turned to face his sensei. "Yeah?"

Kakashi looked a little off. He wasn't meeting Naruto's eyes, which was a first. Naruto raised an eyebrow, slightly confused. "Sensei?"

"I wanted to apologize, I know what it's like to have bad memories and I... I'm sorry Naruto."

Naruto was frozen in shock. Kakashi apologized??  "Uh, It-it's fne. You don't need to apologize." He stuttered, still reeeling. Kakashi looked a little better but guilt was obvious in his lone eye. Naruto sighed and walked over to the railing of the bridge.

He needed to think. to plan, something. But his brain was empty, and he couldn't think. He hated mental blocks like this, because the only hing he could to was wait it out. He stiffened as his clones dispelled all at once, and a plethora of memories slammed into his empty brain.

He saw spots, and clutched the railing as his vision blacked out and his brain overloaded. He felt his grip on the railing slip, and everything went black. He tried to quickly sort through the memories assaulting his brain. He needed to wake up in case he went over the railing and not falling back onto the ground.

Kakashi had been watching Naruto.

The blond was... different. Not neccesarily in a bad way, but he wanted to find out the reason. He knew the blond had killed before, been hurt, lost people, but when? He was a twelve year old boy who has spent his whole life in the village. When had any of this been able to happen? And Kakashi had apologized to the blond, feeling guilt flood him and overwhelm him in a way it hasn't since Rin.

Kakashi watched the blond walk to the railing, watched him black out, and every molecule in his twenty-six year old body screamed at him to grab the blond. He seemed to move in slow motion, but in reality, he caught the blond in less than a second, not even enough time for his body to fully go over the railing.

He set the blond down, and clutched his chest, where his heart was hammering. His ears ounded, and his head hurt. He had just overreacted. Any other person, he would have been perfectly calm, catching them and setting them with not even a shift in breathing.

What was different?

Naruto's eyes opened and he held his pounding head. He looked over and saw Kakashi deep in thought. The Copy-nin must have caught him. Naruto staggered to his feet, feeling a chakra signature that tugged at his memory on the edge of his senses. Suddenly he straightened up, pushing back the dizziness. He leapt into the trees heading straight for the chakra signature.

A minute later he landed in front of a familiar face.

"Naruto-kun."

"You know, all of these people coming back to the past makes me wonder if Madara came back too. Or hell, even Kaguya."

Itachi gave him a blank look. "Yes well, you are the reason we're back so if what you wonder is true, I blame you."

Naruto snorted. "Well, this time we just need to win."

"Easier said then done."

Naruto just shrugged, blond hair bouncing in the breeze. The two stood there, the silence slowly growing awkward. Naruto was trying to come up with plans, now that he knew Itachi was back. "Well, I don't know exactly what to do yet, but no more Sasuke manipulation, and well, Uzushio isn't too far from here, I wanted to check something... You could deal with Sasuke and I could run go check the thing out...."

Itachi raised an eyebrow, knowing Naruto mostly just wanted to get away from the impeding explosion. "What is this something?"

Naruto scratched his cheek. "During the war, on a trip to Uzu, I found the body, only around three or four years decayed, of Uchiha Shisui. His bones were messed up and he wasn't wearing the armor you described, so I think he survived, but tried to get to Uzu and died. Probably got jumped. He was a blind cripple and probabaly was a good bit weaker than Shisui no Shunshin."

Itachi his his shock well, but nodded stiffly. "Very well,go. I shall deal with Sasuke."

Naruto nodded and ran off, releasing his henge so he could go faster. He wasn'tsure when Shisui died, but he wasn't taking any chances. He reached the ocean and didn't hesitate in crossing it, running for thirty minutes before seeing Uzushio's first Island. He spotted a crouched figure on the shore, who jolted up at the approaching signature.

"Who's there!" Shisui had a cloth around his empty eye sockets, and he walked weird. It was obvious most of his bones never healed right, probably not getting a very good healer. Naruto slowed down, walking towards the raven.

"Shisui Uchiha. You know, you gave Itachi way too much grief, right? I'm Uzumaki Naruto, you guarded me when you were Karasu. I'm here to make you an offer."

Shisui didn't relax. "Offer? And how would a twelve year old genin get to Uzu or know where I was?"

Naruto released a breath. "Hard to believe, but I'm actually nineteen. And Itachi is twenty-one. Or maybe twenty-two, I don't know. Anyways, We're from the future... I'm under a transformation with my team an in the village, and the Godaime is also from the future. I made friends with Kurama, the Kyuubi, and I can use his power to heal you. I don't know if you'll ever get your Sharingan back, but your body and sight will be restored."

Shisui relaxed a little, running over Naruto's words. "...That would explain how you knew I was heading to Uzushio, and why you aound older than twelve.... I guess I don't really have anything left to lose. Heal me."

Naruto briefly closed his eyes, opening them as a cloak of golden chakra engulfed his form. His longish hair fluttered in a nonexistent breeze, and he touched a hand to Shisui's shoulder. "You may want to sit, or even lay down, as I'll need to rebreak several bones and heal them. You may also pass out from the exhaustion of being healed rapidly."

Shisui nodded, laying down on the sand. Naruto touched the ravens shoulder and winced at the sound of several bones snapping and grating. Shisui let out a piercing scream before his face scrunched up and his teeth clenched. Harsh breaths and groans were all that escaped the Uchiha from there.

When Naruto was done he gently took the cloth off of the messy haired raven's eyes and regenerated each. Later he could attempt to bring back the Sharingan aspect, but for now, just regaining sight would be enough for both of them.

Shisui gasped as he was granted sight after almost five years of not having it. He looked at the blue sky in wonder, and then Naruto's no longer glowing form. Tears gathered in his newly regenerated eyes, and he dipped his head.

"Thank you."

Naruto just patted Shisui's shoulder. "No problem. Up for a trip back to Nami?" The blond stretched, walking over to the water and then proceeding to stand on the water. Shisui grinned an old familiar grin that he hadn't felt on his face since before the massacre.

"Yeah." Shisui appeared next to Naruto, and the two took off, Shisui having to used his famous Shunshin to keep up. They raced along the waves, grinning widely and even letting loose carefree laughter. As they neared Wave, Naruto slid into his henge, leaping onto the sandy shore.

He ran a hand through his windswept hair, eyes sparkling in a way they hadn't since he left on the mission, left Hinata and Shikamaru. The two walked through Wave, the blond getting a few nods of respect from the villagers. As they approached the house, Naruto felt a sense of foreboding.

He sighed and opened the doot to see Sasuke hog-tied and glaring at his older brother, who sat at the kitchen table sipping a cup of tea calmly. "Itachi, what the hell!? I said explain not tie him up and wait for me to get here!"

"Itachi set down his cup, looking at the whiskered blond blankly. "I tried explaining, but he kept charging at me. It got annoying." then the long-haired Uchiha spotted Shisui, and a whole speawil (That is now a word) of emotions flitted across his normally stoic face.

Shisui just chuckled semi-nervously. "Hey...Itachi... Sasuke-chan..."

Sasuke had stopped struggling, eyes wide as he stared at the curly haired Uchiha. Naruto untied the youngest of the three Uchiha. "Do not attack your brother. He has something more important than revenge to tell you. And he doesn't have a lot of time."

Sasuke just nodded dumbly, eyes still fixated on Shisui, who he had believed to be dead before the massacre.

"So, I didn't die, but I didn't exactly wake up until a year had passed.... by then I had accepted that I was dead to the world and had accepted that I should just live my life as a peaceful cripple.... Then I met a man who had extraordinary healing powers. He fixed my bones, and restored my sight. I stumbled across Naruto, who recognized me from my days in the village. He brought me here."

Naruto let the information sink in for the other two Uchiha, before speaking up. "Now that that's done, Itachi. Explain to your brother the true events of that night."

Itachi let out a heavy sigh, coughing slightly before turning to Sasuke, who was back to glaring at him.

"I was ordered to kill the clan."

Sasuke's glare turned into wide-eyed shock, and Naruto facepalmed. "Way to be blunt..." He muttered.

'Danzo Shimura, one of the elders, ordered the execution of the clan because the clan was going to stage a coup de'tat against the village."

Naruto just let out an exaggerrated sigh before pushing Sasuke into a chair. "He told you a lie to protect you, and plus he wanted you killing him to free him of his guilt. he was selfish, but he's trying to fix that right now. You don't have to forgive him immediately, but think about it."

Naruto then left the room, allowing the three Uchiha to have their 'Uchiha Moment'. He was tired, having not properly slept since the mission started almost a week ago. During the war when it was fight or die, he could go three weeks without sleep easy, but he had adrenaline coursing through him constantly as well as him not wanting to die.

He walked outside, towards the trees, and leapt up onto one of the lower branches. He stared up through the branches, at the light filtering through the leaves, and closed his eyes.

Hinata sat on top of the monument, eyes closed but byakugan activated under her bangs. She watched Shikamaru approach, and murmured half to herself, half to him. "I hope Naruto-kun is fine."

Shikamaru sat next to her, pulling out a cigarrete. He didn't smoke often, especially after his mother asked him why he smelled of them. He had blamed Asuma, but he didn't want his mother nagging him about how he was 'twelve and too young to smoke.'

"He'll be fine. He's tough. What's really bothering you Hinata?"

Hinata's eyes opened, the byakugan gone. "I am conflicted, Shikamaru-kun."

Shikamaru just sighed. "Look Hinata, you can't force it. Your Sasuke is gone, and well, he's probably not coming back. Age is just a number if you know and respect one another and your boundaries. Don't worry, time will eventually reveal it's cards, you just need to accept the hand you get dealt."

Hinata nodded, her slighlty longer hair just long enough to be annoying. She wanted to grow it out faster, but the henge released at a gradual pace.

"You know, Shikamaru-san, you are lucky to not have to worry so much, Temari-chan was older than you by two years, so the gap won't be as large. "

Shikamaru glanced at her. "Hinata, my Temari died in the war, along with my unborn child. I think... I can never be with this Temari. I will always see her as my Temari if I do, will always see her getting shredded by her own jutsu. If I am to ever fall in love, it won't be with her. Mentally we are aging, but our bodies seem to be stuck at nineteen. Our situation is complicated."

Hinata silently agreed.

AN// Don't kill me!!! Sorry for taking so long but I need time to get my head back on track for this story! Oh, and I'm starting two new side-fics for when my brain goes 🤯. One is called 'Grown' and the other is 'Not All Our Eyes Are Red.' I know I have a thing for long titles, but bear with me. 'Grown' Is a semi-modern au, Sakura centric. It's basically a sasusaku story. Prolly won't be too long, though the chapters are going to be around 4-5-6,000 ish words if I take time and all that jazz. These won't be posted until I can get a cover. NAOEAR is another Sakura centric. except I took a leaf out of Vampire Knight and made a few characters vampires ... hehe. Anyways, I hope ya liked, and while you wait, check out my other stories and judge them. Harshly.

jkjk. Still. Check em out? Ja ne!
