Chapter 7: A new ally

Naruto hurried to lay down his traps, while ignoring Sasuke's shocked face. Sakura just stood there thinking. Naruto said he was not the same, but he is still Naruto. So to be a different Naruto he would have had to go through some serious changes. What am I missing?

Five minutes later Naruto had trapped the entire area. He returned to his teammates. "Okay, we need a plan. Sakura, you got any ideas? I've trapped the entire area and as long as you stay out of the trees you won't trigger any. The ones on the ground will only go off if I make them or if Kakashi's chakra touches them."

Sakura closed her eyes and placed her fingers on her temple. Naruto held back a snort as he saw the resemblance to Shikamarus thinking pose.

"Well, we could use me as bait to lure him over here, and you and Sasuke could back him into the traps. Meanwhile I will recover as fast as I can and take the bells, or at least one of them." she said eyes still closed.

Naruto nodded. It was a simple plan but it should work. He walked over to Sasuke and slapped a seal on him and whispered the effects in his ear. Sasuke nodded a grin ripping across his face. Naruto then walked over to the center of the clearing and deactivated the seal.

Kakashi was surprised when his genin disappeared from his senses. He spread them out farther only to sense nothing. He waited for a few minutes frowning. After ten minutes he was confused. Genin usually would have attacked him by now. He decided to look for them, he didn't wanna have to report them missing. He headed west where he last sensed them and still sensed nothing.

He jolted straight up in surprise as he felt all three chakra signals appear right behind him in different locations. He sensed Sakura first. She looked like she hadn't noticed that her chakra had completely vanished and was calling for Sasuke. Kakashi snuck up behind her and made a few hand-signs whispering the jutsu under his breath.

He watched as she seemed to freeze before letting out a piercing scream and collapsing in a dead faint.

Kakashi shook his head she really was a disappointment to kunoichi everywhere. He suddenly ducked, a foot flying where his head was a second before. He saw a flash of black and gold before he was dodging attacks left and right. He backed up and yelped when with a flash of chakra Kunai came shooting out of the ground. Kakashi attempted to get out of the way but still got nicked in a few spots. No matter where Kakashi seemed to step he had to stay on his toes and even then he was getting hit.

His mask was the only thing unmarked, which wasn't surprising. He was so busy dodging attacks from traps and the two blurs that he didn't notice the bells missing from his waist. As such he was confused as to why the two blurs backed off, heading east. He turned, only to see a pink streak following after them. He looked down and saw the bells missing from his waist.

He took after them, not going full speed because they were genin and he had to give them a chance. He appeared in the clearing where they started the test and saw them leaning against them with Naruto in the middle.

At that moment, it was not retrieving the bells that Kakashi was thinking of, no, he was seeing a team with the potential to be the next Sannin, with Naruto in the middle, Sakura on his left and Sasuke his right.

The three genin stood there, identical smirks on their faces Sakura and Sasuke holding out the bells and Naruto with a Transformed Shadow Clone holding a third.

"Well, Kakashi-sensei"? Do we pass your test?" Naruto asked feigning innocence.

Kakashi smiled beneath the mask, i will make this team something great. He thought.

"Well you seem to have gotten the bells, and the true meaning of the test so...... you pass." he said.

Naruto grinned, Sasuke smirked, and Sakura gave a small smile.

"Meet me here at eight tomorrow. Don't be late." and with that the silver haired man disappeared in a swirl of leaves

Naruto sighed as he released his henge. He made dinner, consisting of ramen. He took a shower, sighing as the warm water released the tension knotted in his back and shoulders. He got out of the shower relaxed and laid on his bed. He fell asleep quickly.

Kakashi Hatake was a mysterious and aloof kind of guy and it took a lot to make him interested in something other than his precious, but he couldn't help but stare after the blond enigma walking home for the day. Frankly I am shocked that Naruto is going to tell Sasuke and Sakura about his parentage. He suddenly had something flash across the forefront of his mind. It was an image, where he was sitting next to a campfire staring at his father. He shook his head. Where did that come from? He thought as his fathers voice spoke in his mind.

"I'm proud of you Kakashi." He said.

Kakashi tried to push it out of his head as he pulled out his Icha Icha.

He was walking through the Konoha Marketplace when he felt a weird chill. Unease settled in the pit of his stomach and he continued walking, he was walking near the red light district when the unease grew. Unsettled he decided to walk in the direction of his blonde students apartment to see if he was okay.

As he approached the apartment he saw the front door cracked open slightly. He pushed it open and entered the dark house. He padded through the kitchen, which had an empty ramen cup sitting on it. He continued on past the bathroom and saw what must be the bedroom door wide open. He looked in and saw Naruto sleeping. As he saw that all was fine, he turned to walk out only to freeze as he heard the blond cry out in his sleep. "Sensei! ...no d.."

He watched as his student began shifting restlessly. He must be having a nightmare. He debated whether or not he should wake up the blond genin and decided to wait.

'He found himself upon a hill caked with bodies. Wait, he knew this hill, it's where-

He was fighting, there were so many enemies. He didn't want to-

"KAKASHI!"

He grabbed the man lowering him down.

"Why? Why did you do it you Baka?!" He was crying, but he couldn't help it and-

"Heal him."

"Naruto, I'm sorry."

No he can't be nonono he can't be because he just found out and-

He was screaming, that was all he was aware of.

"Naruto, why couldn't you save me? I died for you you know,"

"I'm sorry Kakashi I'm sorry! I never meant for it to happen!"

You can't take it back though and Naruto knew it.

"You should not have died for me Kakashi. Not me, anyone other than ME! Or better yet not at all!"

He was crying harder and his throat hurt, but still he couldn't stop.

"It was your fault, all your fault, you killed me.

"No, no, no I didn't. I swear. I'd never do that!"

"He killed me."

He looked over. The Shinobi who killed Kakashi was standing there holding the man himself head. He watched as the face melted off leaving his in its wake.

He froze.

And a scream was all but ripped from him.

Kakashi watched as his student seemed to get more restless, muttering things in his sleep. When he saw tears slipping down the blonds face he went to wake him up. He froze when he heard the blond speak.

"I'm sorry Kakashi, I'm sorry! I never meant for it to happen!" He yelled

Kakashi waited to see if the blond would say anything else.

"You shouldn't have died for me Kakashi. Not me, anyone other than ME! Or better yet not at all!"

He saw as Naruto Stilled completely before letting out an agonizing scream. Kakashi rushed over to his student, shaking him.

"Naruto, wake up! Naruto! NARUTO!"

Naruto shot up. He was still sobbing and was looking around frantically. He saw Kakashi and latched on to him.

Kakashi awkwardly hugged Naruto back. Listening to his ramblings.

"I didn't mean to. I never meant for you to. You shouldn't have been there." He sobbed clinging to Kakashi-sensei Jonin vest.

"Why?" Kakashi asked. In warmly wondering just where there was.

"Because then you wouldn't have died. You would have stayed and-" He stopped and just stayed there feeling comfort in being close to the man.

Kakashi had a itch in the back of his mind. It was bothering him so he decided to ask one more question.

" Could you talk about it? You know, tell me what happened from your point of view?"

Naruto didn't want to, it was painful, but this was Kakashi who wanted to know. (He was also unaware he was conscious)

He nodded.

"I had been on the field. I was surrounded by the enemy and was being overwhelmed. There was one guy, he would have got me but you,.... y-you ju-jumped in f-front of t-the attack. It was Fatal. R-right before y-you y'know d-died, you you said-" at this Naruto stopped and all but wailed in sorrow and regret. The itch in Kakashis mind was so strong he shifted slightly. "What did I say Naruto?"

"Y-y-you s-said I-I L-love y-you." It was all but whisper but carried so much emotion that Kakashi found he couldn't move. The itch overwhelmed him and images flashed before his eyes

"...You pass" He Eye smiled.

"Run! You stand no chance! Take Tazuna and run!"

"No! I will never abandon my comrades!"

Naruto. I admire your courage and endless strength.

"Kakashi Hatake Rokudaime Hokage of the Village Hidden in the Leaves!"

"Naruto you will be my successor."

"NARUTO!"

"I love you."

Meanwhile Naruto had realized that he was no longer asleep and was staring at what seemed like a frozen Kakashi. Oh crap! He will probably think I have a crush on him! He didn't have a crush on the man. Not since he was fifteen. He was in love with the man. He knew it and didn't know what to do.

He grabbed the man as he passed out. Kurama! What's wrong with Kakashi-sensei!

I don't know kit. Wait and see if he wakes up. I sense nothing wrong. Actually he could sense the mans chakra reserves increasing and being altered slightly. He didn't tell the blond wanting to see his reaction when the unconscious man woke.

Naruto sat and waited anxiously. He leaned forward when an hour later the silver haired mans eyes slid open.

"Maa, maa don't you think that's a little close Nanadaime-sama?"
