CHAPTER 2 : Rejected
Rose was in front of giant tree arch like gate, her heart beating heavily in her chest.
She will never agree to this, she kept repeating in her head.
Two tall and buff fairies stood on either end of the gate holding golden spears and were armoured from head to toe with golden armour, their faces only visible. They are called the kamala twins or the Queen's personal guardians. As the fairy got closer, they blocked her path with their spears forming an X.
"State your division?" the kamala on the right spoke, his voice monotone and thick.
She took a deep breath cringing inwardly from his voice, "Superior Human's Saviours."
He stayed as monotone and impassive as ever nodding once curtly. "Your Carrier's current state?"
"Uh..." she swallowed visibly meeting his cold eyes with slight hesitation, "Nor-Normal."
He gave another curt nod. "Your Carrier's current loyalty?"
What are all these ridiculous questions? She thought angrily.
I was here just a few hours ago, they saw me here. Why are they asking me so many questions?
She tried to calm herself down as much as possible and ignored her anger.
"She is extremely loyal to our cause," she spat a hint of annoyance in her voice.
"State the reason of your visit?" the kamala on the right spoke once more, his thick voice filling her ears.
Rose cleared her throat trying to sound confident despite her slightly shaking hands, "I will inform her highness of a solution regarding my carrier's execution."
The other fairy on the left spoke in the same tone, "Your mission's password?"
"Evilingston's curse," she said as calmly as she could feeling her feet shuddering beneath her.
They nodded robotically in unison and finally removed their spears from the fairy's path allowing her to enter. Rose sighed glaring at the two monotone Kamalas and moved forward quickly before they change their minds and bombard her with a million more questions.
I wish Nixie could get rid of them already, Rose thought, they are extremely useless.
Nixie was sitting on her throne made of entwined green vines that were wrapped around the arms, legs and seat of the chair. Every long vine had red roses blooming along its length. Her throne always had that eccentric pulling force that would make every fairy kneel down in submission at the sight of its magnificence.
Her twin female Kamalas were standing on each side of the queen looking tall and magnificent as ever. When they spotted Rose, they gave her an elegant smile and bowed. Rose did the same.
The queen turned to Rose, the dark red blood eyes pouring into Rose's caramel ones. Nixie seemed slightly surprised at Rose's visit but regardless she gave Rose her seductive smile.
"Back so soon my child," she spoke elegantly "I thought I gave you my final answer."
Rose nodded feeling her legs getting heavier "Ye-Yes, I am aware of that your highness. However I came to you to inform –"
Nixie interrupted "My Kamalas already informed me. You want to inform me of a solution but unfortunately dear child there is none. For the safety of your brethren, your carrier must die."
Rose shivered under the intensity of the queen's voice. Nixie made her decision seem final that Rose couldn't try and convince her of Stella's idea. Regardless, she was determined to tell her Queen of the idea.
She took a deep breath, "I completely understand and respect your decision your highness. I too want what's good for my brothers and sisters here, truly. So to ensure that we all are safe, we can recruit Florina."
Nixie raised a brow, "Recruit Evilingston's heir? As one of our own? That is your solution Prim?"
Rose nodded, "Yes your highness. If we recruit her, we ensure that she won't divulge in any evil doings. We also ensure that she won't be influenced by Lucifer or the Evilingston curse. In short, we ensure she stays in our good books."
Nixie paused for a moment contemplating what her fairy told her. She turned to her twin Kamalas as a silent gesture of asking for their opinion. They smiled in return and nodded. The queen crossed her legs and rested her hands on top of them elegantly.
Her blood red eyes poured into Rose's. Nixie smiled, "And how do you plan to do that Prim?"
Rose felt herself jumping from joy from within. She didn't expect her queen to budge that easily.
She smiled in return, "I will give Florina very intensive courses on how to use our spells and enchantments. With the help of her photographic memory and her concentration, I am certain she will be up for the challenge."
Nixie shifted her weight to the side "And for how long are you planning to give her those courses?"
"Uh...well," Rose hesitated as she didn't plan that far. She was too focused on convincing the queen of the idea that she didn't get time to fully prepare herself.
Rose swallowed hard, "Perhaps in the same period as our fairy children. Three years your highness."
The queen raised a brow and nodded. She paused again staring at Rose without blinking. That idea seemed to slightly intrigue the queen as she kept nodding to herself from time to time considering it.
After a long silence from the fairy queen, she raised her head to face Rose while still maintaining her signature smile, "I am very sorry my dear child. Like I told you previously, my decision is final. I don't see a world where the fairies and the enemy can be one."
She got up from her seat and walked to a very heart broken Rose, "Now my dear, it's going to be your mission to find her and bring her to me."
*************
"Snape, I don't think they have come by here," the emerald eyed wizard breathed heavily as he illuminated his wand once more.
"They must have come here Dickenson," Severus said coldly ducking under a long branch "If he wanted to speak with her alone as you say, there is no more secluded place other than the forbidden forest."
Both the wizard were searching for the witch Florina Woods for hours. After David convinced the potions master that the witch's long absence is suspicious, Severus decided to begin their search in the forbidden forest.
"But he is an ancient ghost," David turned to the wizard narrowly missing a sharp thorn "Does he even know what Hogwarts is let alone the forbidden forest?"
"Well, he knew she would be present at Hogwarts when he came to warn her, I can only assume he knows all about it... DUCK!" Severus shouted to the wizard who was going to be impaled by another long branch.
"Confringo!" David exclaimed exploding the branch into tiny pieces flying around them.
Severus glared at the wizard for his carelessness. He scoffed, "You could have just avoided it Dickenson instead of causing a conundrum. Centaurs reside here you know. We don't want to alert them to our location."
David glared back pointing his wand at the path for light. "Do you really think he would have taken her that deep into the forest Snape? No human has ever set foot in this part of the forest."
The potions master nodded, "And that's exactly why he would bring her here. Away from all human eyes."
The tall emerald eyed wizard sighed deeply still doubtful of the other wizard's decision. Regardless, they kept moving forward deeper into the heart of the forbidden forest trying their best to dodge all the obstacles that came their way.
After a few hours of searching, they arrived at a place where all the greenery was mysteriously gone leaving in its wake an empty circle of land within the forbidden forest.
David squinted his eyes, "What is that over there?" he pointed at the seemingly lifeless body curled up into a ball.
The emerald eyed wizard inched closer towards the body. The unconscious body was holding its shoulders tightly and remained immobile in a fetal position. As David moved closer, he broke a branch under his feet which made a loud crunching noise.
The potions master immediately looked around himself to make sure no creature heard it too. Once he was certain, he turned back to the wizard and hissed, "Take caution Dickenson."
Severus stayed in his place behind the bushes watching the other wizard intensely.
"I know," David whispered back in annoyance. He took baby steps towards the body shinning his wand at it for a better view.
As he drew closer, he noticed the long brunette locks of the body. David whispered, "Are... are you alright?"
Severus scoffed from his bush. He whispered mocking, "Of course that person won't hear you. If it could hear then clearly it won't be in that state Dickenson. Use some of your brain cells."
David stopped looking at the body and turned to the wizard glaring, "If you are being so smart arse, why don't you come here instead of hiding in your bush?"
"And who is going to keep watch dunderhead," Severus spat back "unless you wish to get trampled by an angry horde of centaurs."
The emerald eyed wizard rolled his eyes and turned back to the unconscious body. Crouching down beside it, he softly touched the person's shoulder shaking them slightly.
"Hey miss or sir, wake up. It is dangerous here," he whispered softly to it.
When the body remained immobile, he tucked on its shoulder and turned the person on their back to face him. At first, the face of the body was unclear in the pitch darkness. Illuminating his wand, David brought his wand closer to the person's face.
Their face was red and badly bruised leaving it unrecognizable from the first glance. In fact, the body seemed to have survived a brutal beating and abuse. Feeling sorry for the person, David got closer to their face and lightly touched it.
He moved the brunette locks away from their face and then tried to open their eyes. Looking at their eyes, an ocean blue shimmer reflected back from it. David gasped in shock and immediately got up.
"Snape! It's Florina!" he exclaimed.
The other wizard jumped out of his hiding place and ran beside the emerald eyed wizard. He crouched down and turned the witch to him almost making sure what David said was right. When he too confirmed it was Florina, he at once dug his fingers deep into the witch's neck to check her pulse.
"I told you that ghost cannot be trusted!" David exclaimed putting his hand over his mouth "How could he do that to a young lady?"
"Will you calm down," Severus hissed "We still don't know what happened for certain, stop jumping to conclusions."
"How can I calm down Snape? Look at her!" David shouted making Severus look around himself "She is beaten to a pulp and we don't even know if she is alive or not."
The potions master ignored him and turned his attention to the bruised body.
After a few agonizing seconds of waiting, Severus let out a sigh of relief and whispered, "She is alive."
David let out the breath he was holding out of fear. Crouching down beside the potions master, he held Florina's shoulders and shook her lightly.
"Flora, can you hear me? Flora, please wake up," he spoke softly trying to hold back his tears.
Suddenly a dark thought enveloped the emerald eyed wizard's thoughts.
"Do you think she is in another coma?" David asked Severus his voice anxious.
The onyx eyed wizard shook his head, "I don't think so. Look at her eyes," he pointed at the witch's eyes, "they are still moving in their sockets. If she were in a coma, that wouldn't happen."
"It doesn't matter anyway," David slid his arms under her unconscious body "we need to take her to the hospital wing. Poppy will know what to do."
The potions master nodded and straightened himself. With a firm strong tug, David lifted the witch to his chest and stood still.
An object fell from Florina's hand onto the ground making the potions master turn to it. David was preoccupied with concentration and didn't notice it. Once the emerald eyed wizard found his footing, he began walking slowly with the witch in his arms making sure to avoid all the thorns and bushes.
After he took a few steps forward, he noticed Severus standing in his place. He carefully turned to him annoyed, "Are you coming Snape or you want to be trampled by the centaurs?"
Severus ignored him and moved closer to the object on the ground. It didn't seem clear what the object was in the darkness so the potions master whispered, "Lumos."
With his wand illuminated, the object was more visible. It was a long burnt scroll of parchment that had a few drops of blood on it. The wizard enunciated a few spells on it making sure that the parchment wasn't cursed or dangerous to the touch.
Once the potions master was certain the parchment was risk free, he slowly held it to him. The front side of the parchment was completely burnt and it almost disintegrated in his hands. Wanting to not damage it any further, he made it hover in front of him instead. Severus noticed some odd writing on top of the parchment.
Squinting his eyes, he made out the words "The thirteen Commandments."
