Between the Chaos: A Wattpad Exclusive
Summary: The first thing Sam expected when beginning their run from 117 countries was to be arrested by the second week. The last thing he expected (although admittedly, he should have seen it coming), was attending a wedding in Wakanda for none other than his very own Steve and Natasha.
A/N: This is a Wattpad Exclusive cause it's not on my AO3 account. If you want to read some AO3 (Archive of Our Own) Exclusives, check me out there (shewritesall)! You don't need an account to read, though I suggest it cause there's some great stories on there!
Steve was getting desperate. Sure, he was doing fine with Sam and Wanda, keeping them all off the grid and away from the public eye as the Accords died down, but Natasha was still completely unaccounted for and it made him anxious. He knew Clint and Scott had taken deals to stay with their families and he knew Bucky was safe in Wakanda with the rest of them, but Natasha hadn't even attempted to send out a signal as far as he could tell and it was really making him worried.
"You could ask Clint if he's heard from her," Sam suggested, forgoing his original reason for walking into Steve's room in favour of trying to get his friend to calm down.
"She wouldn't contact him," Steve mumbled, sinking onto the couch in his room. "Too much of a risk for his family."
"Maybe Stark would know."
"Would put him at risk if Ross thought he knew something."
Sam just sighed and set the folder he'd come to deliver on the table in front of Steve. After spending the morning training with T'Challa (and getting his ass whooped), he'd been handed the file to take to Steve. He hadn't pried, but he'd been tempted based on how important T'Challa made it sound. Hopefully it would distract Steve from his Natasha Worry for at least the rest of the day.
"From T'Challa," Sam explained, nodding at the file as Steve picked it up. "At least pretend it'll keep you from worrying."
"Thanks, Sam," Steve said. Sam nodded then left the room so Steve could glance over the file himself. To Steve's surprise, the folder contained nothing more than an unlabeled envelope that was still sealed. It had his name on it, but no other writing. It didn't need to for him to immediately recognise the lettering and spring up from his bed in a rush.
He was halfway through packing his bag when he realised he hadn't even read the letter. Pulling it from his pocket, he tried not to tear it too horribly as he opened it up in hopes of hearing she was okay. The joy and relief he felt when he saw an address followed by 'Come get me, Soldier' was almost too much to handle.
No longer worried about packing clothes, he zipped up his bag and tried not to run through the palace halls to find T'Challa. They'd only been in Wakanda for two days and were bound to leave in another two as their usual pattern was, but maybe T'Challa would let Sam and Wanda stay just a little bit longer in order for him to go find Natasha without worrying about the other two being discovered.
"I would be delighted to keep your friends here for longer," T'Challa assured Steve. He offered him a jet and within the hour, Steve was flying out of Wakanda and to the address Natasha had given him.

They were getting close; too close for comfort and while Natasha knew she could easily disappear and never be found by them, she kind of didn't want to. It had been three months since the Accords fall-out and just as long since she'd seen any of the others. While she knew they had to be okay or it would be all over the news, she was still worried about them. Steve was skilled enough now to know how to fly under the government's radar (SHIELD fall-out really helped that), but Sam and Wanda didn't. It was unlikely he'd leave them somewhere on their own, but it was always more difficult when taking unexperienced kids undercover for an extended amount of time.
She had heard from Clint. She'd berated him for three minutes for risking both of their locations before finally admitting she missed him but was okay. She hadn't heard from Steve, but Clint had given her enough information for her to know he'd show up in Wakanda eventually, so she'd set off a chain of messengers in hopes of getting a short letter to T'Challa for when Steve finally did arrive. That's why, as she crouched behind the gas stove that simply wasn't working, she wasn't totally surprised to hear a knock on her door.
Despite knowing Ross had recently been on her tail and could have tracked her down, she didn't bother checking before opening the door. Ross or anyone hunting her down wouldn't knock; plus, she was familiar with Steve's knocking pattern.
"Nat," he breathed. She didn't give him time to process anything before she was pulling him inside the old little house and wrapping her arms around his neck. His arms immediately wrapped around her waist and he pressed his lips to hers after what seemed like an eternity without it.
Natasha couldn't help but smile against his lips, eventually causing Steve to do the same before they pulled away. She didn't pull out of his arms, instead, she tried to draw herself closer and he kissed her temple.
"You know, you could have just shown up at the palace instead of sending me on a wild man-hunt," Steve murmured as he rested his forehead against hers.
"Where's the fun in that?" she teased. Steve just tucked her head against his chest and rested his chin on top of her head.
"Then I could see you sooner," Steve told her. Okay, so that was a good point, she supposed. "Plus, we wouldn't have had our reunion in a dumpy shack."
"Hey! This is my secret hide-out you're talking about," she exclaimed, lightly hitting his arm. Steve just laughed before stepping away from her much to Natasha's displeasure. When she tried to pull him back to her, Steve ducked away with a grin and she frowned.
"You made me go on a whole trip to find you, you can wait two minutes for me to do this," he said. A bit confused but only slightly willing to admit it, Natasha frowned. Before she could ask, Steve pulled a little box from his pocket and Natasha almost forgot to breathe. She was about to say something but Steve stopped her. "No, you don't get to say anything until I'm done with my thing because you refused to make this easier on me."
"That's not a very nice way to start a proposal."
"Who says I'm proposing?" Steve countered, raising an eyebrow. Natasha gave him a dead look and he rolled his eyes before saying, "It's been three months since we last had an actual day together and it's been the absolute worst three months of my life. Sam isn't nearly as wonderful as you—" Natasha snorted and muttered a "Damn right" under her breath "—but he has helped me realise that if I have to be stuck with one person for the rest of my life, I'd want it to be you. If we were in Wakanda, this would be a lot more beautiful," Steve told her pointedly while Natasha just rolled her eyes, "But at least we don't have prying ears when I say I love you more than I could ever imagine, Natasha, and it would make me so incredibly happy if you would marry me."
There was a second of silence before Natasha said, "Well I suppose you'll do."
Steve rolled his eyes as he pulled Natasha toward him again and kissed her deeply. She grinned when he slipped the ring on her finger. He'd hardly had to pull away to do it and as soon as he was sure it was secure on her finger, he pulled her back to him and kissed her even deeper.

Sam knew, okay? He knew Steve and Natasha had been together for a while before Ultron and he knew Steve had been carrying a ring around for months before the Accords fall-out. It probably would have been easy to guess Steve would bring Natasha back with a ring on her finger, but he hadn't really thought about it so he still erupted in congratulations and surprise when he saw it.
"I knew you had it in you," Sam told Steve, patting his shoulder and refusing to acknowledge the tears threatening to form in his eyes.
"If you cry, you know Natasha's gonna tease you about it," Steve warned. Sam nodded and wiped at his face when he knew Natasha wasn't looking.
"You're staying now, yes?" Wanda asked Natasha, still admiring the ring Steve had given her. Wanda hadn't let go of Natasha since the second she appeared. Whether it was because she was desperate for another female to stay with her and the boys or simply because she'd really missed her, Natasha didn't try to figure out.
"Yes," Natasha answered. She combed her fingers through Wanda's hair as the younger girl nodded. "Someone needs to make sure you three don't get caught."
"I think I was doing a pretty good job," Steve defended as he and Sam joined their conversation. Natasha's free hand grabbed Steve's and laced their fingers together.
"You can't keep coming to Wakanda whenever someone catches your trail," she told him. Steve knew that was true, but at least now they had Natasha to help guide them around the globe and keep them from getting arrested.
"I suppose we'll be leaving soon then?" Sam asked. Natasha and Steve nodded, telling them they'd be heading out in the morning so as soon as the celebratory feast T'Challa insisted on hosting was over, they were to go to sleep and not whine in the morning.

They didn't leave the next day. They actually didn't leave for three weeks. After T'Challa insisted it would be an honour to host their wedding, the four of them had holed up for even longer in the palace and all helped to plan the wedding. Natasha didn't want it big, something T'Challa respected and in return kept the word from getting out. It would only be the royal family, Nakia, Sam, Wanda, and the Dora Milaje attending aside from Zuri who would act as the officiator. Since it was so small, it didn't need much planning and Natasha was more than willing to step aside and let Wanda and Shuri decorate everything as long as it wasn't too extreme.
When the day of the wedding finally did arrive, all the women invited pulled Natasha from her bed way too early for her likes and took her into the city to get her nails and hair done. While it was a pain to wake up so early after a late night, Natasha did enjoy the time with Wanda, Shuri, Queen Ramonda, Nakia, and Okoye. They were all quite nice and Natasha almost considered never leaving if only so she could train every day with the Dora Milaje.
"You are welcome to stay after," Queen Ramonda told Natasha. Assuring her it was no problem to the kingdom if they stayed the entire time in Wakanda. "Now that we are open to the world, we will face the troubles other countries face. You and your friends, however, will never be a trouble to us."
"Thank you, but I know Steve would feel too guilty if we stay," Natasha said. Queen Ramonda nodded in understanding and that was the end of that.
After spending time in the city, they went back up to the palace where Natasha pulled out the white gown she'd found earlier in the week for today. It wasn't a wedding dress, but she didn't care. It was long and covered in lace, giving it a more simplistic yet vintage look. It was light so the Wakandan sun wouldn't feel too hot, but high quality enough it didn't feel cheap to wear. Of course, Wanda and Shuri were devastated Natasha didn't want a real wedding dress, but Okoye and Nakia kept them from whining about it too much by listing off all the impracticalities it would pose (when the older women weren't paying attention, Wanda and Shuri made sure to mock them for it).
Finally, it was time for the ceremony on the palace balcony. T'Challa had offered to walk Natasha down the aisle and she smiled when he walked up to them. He kissed Nakia's cheek, poked Shuri's side, hugged his mother, then came to stand beside her and offered his arm. Wanda was playing the music for them from a flute Shuri had taught her how to play, but as Natasha walked down the aisle, she paused to grin at her friend. Of course, Steve was too busy staring at Natasha to process what was going on until Sam had to elbow him in order to hand Steve the ring. They all laughed and Steve turned bright red but repeated his vows without stuttering.
Natasha surprised them all when she began hers in Russian, smirking when Sam glared at her but continuing on in a language only Steve and Wanda would be able to understand (she'd wanted Steve to be the only one to hear, but Russian was the only other language he knew fluently thanks to Natasha teaching him over the years, so she figured Wanda understanding wasn't that big of a deal). Zuri had barely gotten the words out of his mouth before Steve was pulling Natasha to him and kissing her happily. She made sure he didn't go too far with all their friends present, pulling away after a short while to turn and accept a bouncing hug for Sam and another (almost as energetic) hug from Wanda.
"I will admit, there is yet another feast prepared in your honour," T'Challa announced sheepishly as they walked from the balcony to the dining hall. "While the wedding was kept small, it is a Wakandan tradition to invite leaders from all other tribes to celebrate."
"Of course," Steve said. He doubted Natasha would care either and when he turned to see her nodding with a smile, he knew he was right.
They walked into the dining hall and were immediately greeted with many congratulations in Xhosa, making Shuri and T'Challa active translators even though everyone knew the entire hall spoke English.
After a particularly long congratulations speech Shuri had to translate, the elder tribe member smiled at them and said in perfect English, "We all welcome you to Wakanda."
It had taken Shuri a couple of minutes to get over it, but once the food was brought out, all was forgotten and she was more than happy to talk with Wanda, Natasha, Nakia, or whoever was willing to entertain her for the moment. By the time everyone was saying goodnight and Steve and Natasha were being pushed off to their room, it was early in the morning and the food was long gone.
"Thank you again so much for the ceremony," Natasha told the Queen. She smiled and nodded, reminding Natasha they were welcome back any time.
"Now, leave us be and go enjoy time together," she said, ushering Steve and Natasha out of the dining hall.
