Chapter 3

The Unknown Letter

After my encounter with Steve, I walked towards my locker to get my books for my first class, biology. Next to my locker was a close girl friend of mine, Kristine. She was fuddling around her folders, most probably looking for her sheets in the subject.

"Are those sheets troubling you, Kris?" I asked while holding my books in my left arm, staring at her with a smirk plastered on my face. She glanced up at me then shook her head, as if to see me was a displeasure from her. Her blonde hair was tied up in a fishtail braid, flowing graciously.

"Not that it matters, Eunice. Shouldn't you be getting in now? Your lab partner's waiting for you." I furrowed my eyebrows at her statement. Lab partner? Wasn't she my lab partner?

"Smart girl, there's a new girl in class right now. Heard she came from New Orleans, so it's quite a new atmosphere of her."

"So, who's going to be my new partner?" I asked impatiently. I couldn't stand the fact that she wasn't my partner anymore, we were the best of all pairs. From the look on her face she seemed to be pissed at it too, but we both had no choice but to agree to the teacher's request.

Ever since our junior year started, Kristine and I have been pairs for biology. We always perfected each experiment, with no flaws or whatsoever. That was I meant by the best of all pairs. Mr. Carson loved the two of us, but now that we were paired with someone else, it was just unruly of him to do.

"I don't know, but I heard it was the nerd hottie." Nerd hottie? She continued, "But anyway, the bell is about to ring. If I were you I'd pick up the envelope and chocolates that dropped from your locker. I see Jackson has become sweeter to you now, huh?"

I looked down at my feet and saw a box of Ferrero chocolates with 3 white and red roses. I stared at them in confusion, wondering who might've sent them when I just broke up with the dick face. Maybe he wanted to get back together and used that as bait? Idiot, as if I would fall for that trap.

"We broke up." Her head immediately shot up to look at me in shock, then turned into sympathy and anger.

"Was the asshole the one who broke up with you? What did he do? I swear to gods I'll chop his non-existing dick-,"

"I broke up with him."

"Oh," she blinked, then blinked numerously again,"wait, what? Didn't you love him like, a lot?"

"He fucked five girls when we were still together," I said, forcing myself a smile. My heart clenched from the pain I still felt, overwhelmed from the hate I felt. I've never hated anyone this much before, I usually didn't hate people.

She hugged me then whispered, "I'll chop his dick off later, honey. Don't worry, you never deserved such a heartless female. What a fucking asshole."

"Female?" I half smiled, feeling a bit better with the way she was handling things. She cheered me up, even if it wasn't that obvious that she was.

"Yeah, I mean, what kind of male species would do that to you, right? Wait... I just insulted our own species..." I laughed at her attempt to make me smile, and she grinned in satisfaction. "Will you please read that letter now? My fingers itching to be the one to rip the paper, you know."

"Yeah, yeah." I looked at the back of the envelope, seeing the written '-SA.' "SA?"

We walked inside the classroom, seeing only half of the seats occupied since other people were still chattering outside. I guess she was wrong about the whole 'bell's boutta ring' thing.

"SA? Does that stand for Sassy Ass?" I smacked her on the head, sitting at our usual table that was about to be replaced by the new girl. My mood saddened a bit due to the fact that I was yet to be gone from this seat from now on.

"Not funny, Kristine," I said, flipping the envelope around. I put the chocolates and flowers back in the locker earlier, just to be safe in case it wasn't really my ex boyfriend who sent those.

"Well, just bloody read the letter!"

I snapped the envelope open, seeing another white paper that was folded neatly as if it came from the post office. I looked back at Kristine and she shrugged.

Opening the paper, I began to see an unfamiliar neat handwriting. It was so neat, possibly nicer than I could have ever written.

"Damn, was that like, printed or something?" The blonde from beside me asked, and I shrugged back. I haven't seen that handwriting before, Jackson's penmanship was as bad as Darren's could get.

We, then, began to read the letter before us,

"Eunice,

I know you're really confused right now, wondering what might these letter and gifts for. I do agree it is quite unusual, but as soon as you read this letter, you'll probably have to get used to it.

Ah, I'm sorry, I'm not really quite used to writing letters for these kinds of things, I'm only used to writing stories.

I know you and Jackson, or should I say Jackass broke up and... All I can say is I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't begin to grow close to you and avoid you from being hurt, especially by a man just like him. I'm sorry I wasn't there to help you, to comfort you, and to even just be there for you.

A guy like him never even deserved you. Hell, even I wouldn't probably deserve you, no one would. You're just too perfect, describing you is impossible to be put into words. You deserved way better than this, Eunice. You deserved to be loved and only be loved by you, not by anyone else's. Only you is more than enough. I don't know why he even chose to be unfaithful, I guess he wasn't yet to realize how lucky he was.

Call me selfish, but I am quite happy that he broke up with you. No, I am not glad at all that you were very upset and had your heart broken, but I am glad that you now finally know what his true colors really are, and how he didn't deserve you, not even the least bit. I would say this could be my chance to finally make my move, but I'm afraid I can't say that. After all, you don't even know me. All I can do is watch you from a far.

Like I've said, please don't be upset anymore. A lot of people don't want to see that frown, now please turn it upside down. You might not be happy now, but in the future, I want you to be. Even if it's in someone else's hands, someone that would now really treat you right, it's fine. I'm happy as long as you are.

I know you don't know who I am, but you quite do. And I'm hoping now, that we really will get to know each other, even just as friends.

Smile, beautiful, a lot of people love you just like I do.

Love,
SA."

"What did we just read?" Kristine exclaimed. The class was full now, and everyone stared at her for her exclamation. She waved at them in dismissal, as if to say not to mind our own business. "You have to be kidding, now I get what SA means!"

"What?" I questioned, looking at her in curiosity. It was 5 minutes before the bell, so we had some time to chat a bit before I was head to go to my new seat and partner. I still wondered who it was.

"Secret Admirer!" I didn't have time to reply as I ran forth to the empty seat beside a brunette guy, who had been answering a sheet which I figured was the homework that was due next week. Hm, this would be interesting.

Mr. Carson barged in before the bell did, his white suit and red tie matching his salt and pepper hair. He smiled at me in recognition, seeing that I've done my job even before he asked me to. I forced back a smile.

"Class, we've got a new student for today. I'll leave it to her to do the introductions," he announced, pointing at the girl on the door. She wore a black hoodie and blue skinny jeans, along with nike shoes and a black framed glasses. Her black hair was down, complementing her tall medium sized tan skinned frame. I could see she had dark brown eyes, and I quickly knew she had Asian blood. Probably a full one, even.

She began to walk towards the seat beside Kristine, and Kristine smiled at her while the unknown girl smiled back. "Hello, my name is Meredith Brooklyn, it's nice to meet you. I came from New Orleans, and my hobby is playing volleyball."

I smiled at her, knowing that a new team member was about to sprout in. "Thank you, Ms. Brooklyn, you may now sit down."

"Hi, um, I'm Eunice! I guess we'll be lab partners from now on, huh?" I said to the guy beside me, holding out my hands for him to shake. He looked up at me, blinking numerously before I saw him pursing his lips nervously. Is something wrong?

"Is something wrong?" I asked worriedly. He opened his mouth to reply, but nothing came out. I became even worried. "Hey, are you okay? I can talk to Mr. Carson for you if you want, I'll tell him you're not feeling fine."

"N-no! I'm fine, perfectly fine." He smiled at me, and I noticed he was cuter with if on. "My name's Robin. Robin Clarkson."

"I look forward to becoming partners with you, Robin," I said to him after he shook my hand. His hands were warm and comforting, as if a blanket hugging you in disguise. Does that make sense?

"I do too, Eunice."
