SAVE MY SOUL

Angelo kept pulling Anna up the flight of stairs. He didn't stop for a second. He didn't even turn to look at her no matter how she asked him to stop. He was letting his anger and emotions get to his head. They got closer to her room.

"Angelo stop." Anna pulled her hand away.

Angelo halted facing the door. He placed his arms on his hips and bit his lips in frustration. He let out a weak breath and then turned to face her.

Anna pursed hers, trying to avoid as much eye contact as she could. She was feeling so embarrassed.

"Thank you for what you did," Anna told him, biting on her lip, "But I was handling it. I was fine."

"Yeah you didn't look fine to me." Angelo argued. She took a deep breath. "How could you do this to yourself? How could you let them do all that to you?" He asked her.

Anna turned to him. He knew. He had heard everything Anna said at the living room.

Damn it Anna.
Could your week get any worse?

Now she had more things to worry about and be embarrassed of. Why didn't she make sure there was no one there before she snapped? She sighed.

"Mind your business Angelo." She rubbed her wrists. They were hurting.

"Mind my business?" Angelo asked. "Are you serious?"

"I never asked for your help. That's what you shouldn't have done today, that's what you should not have done three days ago." Anna said.

'Impossible',
Angelo thought. What was she trying to say? That he should have just let that bullet hit her?

"Fine then." He exhaled. "You don't want me in your business, you don't want me worrying about you, then don't give me reasons to."

Anna stared at him.
"And why on earth should you be worried about me in the first place?" She asked him. "From what I remember, we're not even friends. We're just business partners."

Angelo rolled his eyes. Here they went again.

"You cannot have these feelings for me Angelo, you cannot have any kind of feelings for me."

"Who said I did?"

"Cause you look like you do."

Angelo faked a smile.
"I don't."

She raised her brows.

"You like me."

"I don't."

She looked at him for a while.
"Good." She frowned.

Anna shut her eyes. She was getting really dizzy.

"Look." Angelo took a deep breath. "I'm not trying to concern myself with what's going on in your life but you don't deserve those people I just met, you can't let them control you like this, but it's cool if you don't want to talk about any of it."

"I don't."

"It's cool." Angelo nodded. Even though it was obvious Anna owed him a lot of explanations, he was going to be patient till she was ready to talk.

"But you should know that life's too short even for an Atian to be around people that don't see you as anything less or more than a monster."

"And what about you?" She asked him. Look who was talking? Angelo was the one that almost peed on his pants the other day. "What do you see me as?"

Angelo choked back on his words.

Was that a trick question?

Angelo gulped hard. He wanted to say something. He really wanted to but he just didn't know what to say. He wasn't even sure he knew the answer to what she had just asked. Anna ran out of patience when he didn't. Was she really waiting for an answer even though his answer was so clear?

"I knew it." Anna said and scoffed. He looked at her. "You're not so different from them afterall are you?"

"Anna-"

"Yeah I figured." She walked to the door before Angelo could stop her.
He didn't even try to. She was an Atian for crying out loud. He saw all of them as monsters and that wasn't going to change over a few days of getting married to one.

Come on Angelo, Take your own advice.

"I'm sorry" He said.

"For what?" She opened the door. "Being human?" She walked in and stood at the entrance. "Nah, it's fine." She forced a smile on her face and held the door to shut it when she paused.

"Oh, and..." She continued. "Don't worry I'm not really a fan of human blood and I try to be on a low profile every now and then, so feel free to sleep with your door unlocked and your lights off from now on."

Angelo exhaled.
Crap.

Anna knew he was so scared to leave his door open after what happened. He never slept with his door closed but after what happened, How could she blame him? He almost had a heart attack three days ago.

Anna locked the door slowly.

Angelo took a deep breath placing his both hands in the pockets of his trousers. He scratched his head. What on earth was he supposed to do now.

"Maybe it's for the best Angelo. Maybe you shouldn't interfere or get involved anyway."
The voice in his head was right. He knew he has a soft spot for damsels in distress but this time, he had to cross a line. He walked away.

Twenty minutes later.

The dining room was quiet. Too quiet.
So much for crossing a line. Angelo just never listened to the voice in his head. Just when he had almost convinced himself not to get involved with Atian business, he was already doing the opposite. Angelo glared at Veronica and then Billy one after the other. They were so embarrassed and couldn't even look at him eye to eye.

Veronica kept sighing. It was obvious how dissapointed she was in herself.

'Brace yourself Veronica'
She told herself as she heard Shink sigh too.

She turned to look at him. He sat close to Angelo looking at her. He was so disgusted especially after Angelo had given him the details of what had happened.

Veronica watched Angelo give Shink a tiny paper. He looked at it and then passed it to her.

Angelo cleared his throat.

"Mr Trusk wants you to have this." Shink said. She looked at the paper in surprise. "It's a cheque of fifteen million dollars." Shink continued.

Billy swallowed his saliva hard and almost chocked on it.

"Fifteen milli-" Veronica turned to look at Angelo. She was still in shook. She had never seen that coming especially with the way Angelo had looked at them earlier.

Angelo leaned closer.

"I want you to take that and dissappear from Anna's life from today. You're not to call her, speak to her, appear in front of her or threaten her ever again. And just as you said, no one can ever know what you know."

"Here." Shink pushed a book to them. "Sign below please." He gave her a pen. She looked at him. "The both of you."

"It's a contract," Angelo explained as Veronica read the paper. "Stating everything you and your husband did to Anna is the past. Shink here also tells me that Anna wasn't the only one. That you and your husband have abused many other people in the past. Children, human children." Angelo rose his brows.

"Let's just say this is a written order, an agreement stating that Anna would be the last victim of the both of your stupidities, and if you hurt any child again or if the truth about Anna gets out, you're admitting to all your evils and we're free to report you to the government. I will report you to the government. "

Veronica pulled the booklet to herself immediately and signed in it. She didn't care. She didn't even care enough to read it. Fifteen million was enough money to make her forget how to read.

"Of course." She said with a smile on her face. "Whatever you say. You're the boss."

Angelo looked at Shink. He shook his head. He turned back to Veronica as she gave the book back to Shink.

"Thank you so much kind sir."

"I also want you to take Anna's name off your family's register. She's not a part of your family from now on."

Veronica still had her smile on.
"Of course Ange-" she paused. "Mr Trusk."

"And as from now on, she's Mrs Trusk to you too."
Veronica nodded.
"Of course."

Angelo exhaled as he watched her put the cheque gently into her huge purse. She was so excited. She tapped her husband in excitement. Angelo sunk into his chair. He watched them exchange excited glances and it fueled his disgust. Shink's too.

"I just have one question."
Angelo could not take it off his head. He just had to ask. They both turned to look at him.

"Don't you feel sorry for what you did? For what you both did?"

Veronica frowned.
She had sighed for the millionth time that day. She shook her head slowly like she pitied him.

"Poor child." She told him. "If only you knew what you got yourself involved with. Do you really think you can trust that girl? Do you really think you can trust any of them?"
She turned to Shink too. She knew who he was. She knew he was Atain too.

"They don't care about you," she returned her gaze to Angelo. "They don't care about us. Don't let them fool you, they'd kill you the moment they get the chance. They'd have done worse if the tables were turned. Don't be fooled. I was only doing what I thought was necessary and I'd never be sorry for it."

Angelo hesitated for a few seconds. He couldn't believe what he just heard. He nodded. He got exactly what he needed.

"Good." He scratched his nose bridge and then folded his arms. "I need you both to get your cheap dirty hands off my twenty thousand dollar dining table and get the hell out of my house." He told them.

Veronica stared at him. She was really surprised. Angelo's grown worsened. He couldn't hide his disgust anymore.

"I'm not going to say it twice."

"Yeah we have fifteen million now so who cares?" Veronica got up grinning.

"Come On Billy." She tapped her husband. "We got what we wanted. Let's go."

Billy got up slowly.

"It was nice doing business with you Mr Trusk." She smiled at Angelo. "You're a good man with a good heart. I just hope you don't get screwed over."

She turned to Shink. She winked at him and them walked away.

"Billy!" She yelled from the hallway and her husband rushed to her.

Angelo slouched in his seat. He could see Shink Starr at him through the corner of his eyes but he was going to pay him no mind. He knew exactly what was on Shink's mind.

Why did he do that? Why was he helping Anna?

Angelo took a deep breath.

'You did the right thing Angelo.'
He told himself.

Hell yeah he did.
