Outcast
Five years later....
It's a great day today in every part of the world.
Today we make history. We are doing something that has never been done before in the entire human race. Today we mark the beginning of a whole new world. We mark the beginning of the integration programme. We mark the beginning of a new future with the atians as we let them into our world and try to share our culture and environment with them. We are giving them a chance to be free, a chance to be apart of what we have, what we are trying to build. I know this is not easy for some of you, you have every right to be worried about your safety but I stand here today to tell you that you have nothing to be afraid of. The atians won't be able to hurt anyone outside their walls. We start with ten of them today. And if it is possible to live with these ten, the programme might continue in the future.
"Bullshit." Angelo turned off the television immediately. Hearing all that talk about Atians was clearly giving him a headache.
"Young master, how many times have I told you, you're not allowed to use such languages in the house?"
Angelo turned to the butler who was so busy folding his clothes neatly into a tiny bag.
"Your father might hear you or what's worse, your mother."
Angelo scoffed. Like he was scared.
"Trust me she's not going to care." He got up slowly and walked to the window. He looked outside. "None of them will." he exhaled. "I just can't believe they are going to let those monsters live with us."
"Monsters ?" The butler asked. "Do you not support the integration program?"
"I think the government should spend their time and the people's money on something better. The Atians would only end up killing everyone in the end."
"You know I met one once."
Angelo slowly turned back to the butler.
"His name was Arnold. I think I was about eleven? He saved me from drowning."
Angelo scoffed.
"That was years ago Morris. You're what? Like sixty now."
"All I'm saying is not all of them are as bad as we think they are. They are still good ones among them. Kind ones. We don't know that yet because we don't really know them."
"All I know is an Atian killed my mum. They are murderers and evil. That's all I have to know about them." Angelo turned back to the window. "Who cares about this stupid program anyway? It's not like I'll be here to witness it. It's a long way to Germany."
Angelo watched an eagle as it flew to the ground. That was it. The big day. The day he was supposed to "spend some time away from home."
'A break', his father had said, but Angelo knew the truth. He knew his father was sending him away. Five years and nothing had really changed for him.
His step mother still didn't like him. How could she? All she did was curse him and remind him of how much of a bastard he was. They barely talked much, they barely talked at all. He was almost very sure sending him to school in Germany was all her idea. It was her idea of getting rid of him.
There was no point fighting it anyway.
His father thought it was a good idea too. It was the only way to keep him safe, to give him peace.
Maybe going away was what was really best for everyone, for him. It was a good chance to start over.
Knock! Knock!
Angelo turned slowly as the door opened.
"God this room reeks of sad emotions."
Angelo smiled as Andre walked in with a huge frown on his face. He paused, letting a smirk cover his face.
"Come on Angelo, don't tell me you've been crying?"
Angelo scoffed.
"Cut it out Dre."
Angelo watched him walk towards the window with a wry smile on his face.
"Stop playing."
They exchanged signature handshakes.
"It's just till you finish high school."
Angelo snorted.
"I think it'd be longer than that." He rubbed his arms.
Andre watched him for a while, noticing how scared and sad he was. He sighed.
"I'm sorry it's like this. That you have to leave because of Mum. But you have nothing to worry about. After army school I'm going to get my own apartment and you could come live with me."
Angelo let out a chuckle.
He looked at Andre.
"I'm going to miss you Angelo."
Andre hugged him tight.
"Come on Dre." Angelo said. "Now look who is being too emotional?"
"I can't help it. It feels like I won't get to see you in a long time."
"It's only for a couple of years. Just till dad figures out a way to get Mum to accept me."
Andre let him go.
"I need pictures okay? And I promise, I'd come visit every year. I'd bring Micheal along if Mum lets me."
Angelo nodded
"Okay."
He was so excited hearing Andre's words.
"Young master?"
They both turned to the butler.
"Oh I meant young master Angelo." Morris said.
They laughed. "I think it's time for us to leave. The car is ready."
Angelo nodded. He turned back to Andre. This was it.
"Take care baby Brother." Andre gave him a pat on his shoulder. "Stay safe."
Angelo smiled.
"Thank you Dre." He patted Andre's shoulder too.
Angelo slowly walked to his bed. He picked up his sunglasses. He put it on.
This was it.
This was goodbye.
