I Tried

"I'm coming!"

Patricia yelled for the second time as she hurriedly wiped her wet hands with a towel, racing to get the door, trying to get there and back to the kitchen in time before she burned her food.

Who was it anyway?

She peeped through the tiny door hole and took a deep breath to clear her head as she reached for the door knob.

Breathe Patricia. You've got this.

She tried so hard not to look too excited . It was about time he came anyway, and she had been expecting him. She opened the door in a hurry, a huge smile suddenly brightening her face.

"Hey."

She said with an even brighter smile on her face when she saw him. She stared at Angelo for a while, watching how he pouted and placed his phone back into the pocket of his long coat

"Hey" He responded calmly, starring right back at her for a second, no three seconds, wondering when she was going to ask him to come in. "Can I," maybe she forgot. "Can I come in?"

Shoot!

Patricia scoffed, embarrassed that she had actually forgotten to invite him in.

"Yes, of course " she stood away from the door "please come in."

That was weird. They could both feel it, that was the first time Angelo had to ask for her permission to walk into her house. She hurried to the tiny dining table , letting Angelo close the door behind him and find his way to her.

"Wow, this must be a dream." Patricia exhaled, trying to calm her nerves as she let herself relax on the table while she watched him get closer, "Fancy you coming here."

Angelo sighed. It had really been a while. Angelo had not really had the time or exactly had the courage to talk to Patricia since they shared that kiss, he had always taken a step back, calculating how his relationship with her could be a problem for him and Anna. He watched her try so hard to keep composure. She was trying so hard to stop herself from throwing herself on him and hugging him tightly. She bit hard on her lower lip

"How are you Patricia?" She scoffed

"How do you think?" She asked him. Angelo exhaled, he knew exactly what she was driving at

"I know you're upset-"

"You think?"

"Yeah" Angelo said almost in a whisper, nodding his head, of course she was upset, he expected it after he had unexplainably avoided her for days. Patricia rolled her eyes, throwing the tiny towel she had hung over her shoulder on the table. She folded her arms right beneath her firm breasts.

"I'm not upset Angelo, I'm just confused. I mean I understand why you've not bothered to call me or look at me all this while, I understand how shocked and confused you must have been by the press, but I thought we were stronger than that. It's fine now that you're here." She walked closer to him taking one step after the other. "You always find your way back to me in the end, all I had to do was wait- for -you."

She held on tight to the sides of his coat and pulled him so close to her until she was feeling his mint breath on her skin, she took a deep breath, this was finally it, it was all she hoped for. She had the man of her dreams in her arms, and the smell of him, of his sweet perfume always knew how to turn her on.
She placed her head gently on his chest and her hand too. Listening to his heart beat, feeling his warmth from his shirt

"God I've missed you." She kissed him right there. Thank God she had no lipstick on or she'd have left a print on his blue tie. "I've missed you so so much, thank God you came, I don't know what I'd have done if you hadn't. I've missed your touch, I've missed being this close to you."

Angelo exhaled, He knew exactly why he was there but he wasn't just sure how to let his intentions known to her without hurting her like Sam asked him not to. Why was he even there if he wasn't ready? He folded his hands in a fist first before he slowly reached for Patricia's shoulders.

He pulled her away gently.

"T-that's not why I'm here Tricia."

He watched how the look on her face had finally changed to shock.

"Huh?" Patricia had never been more confused, What did that even mean?

"I was hoping we could talk? For a while?"

"O-Kay," Patricia broke her words still trying to figure out what it was about. She pulled herself further away from him and forced a smile on her face to lighten the mood. "What's up?"

"It's um-" Angelo scratched his brows "it's about what happened the other day"

Patricia blinked twice

"What happened the other day?" She still didn't take that smile off even though it was starting to waver. She was just going to act clueless, Angelo knew that

"Angelo it was a kiss. It wasn't our first and it certainly won't be our last." She let out a scoff that somehow sounded like it was mixed with a chuckle. "We were both too excited about the news and it just happened right in time for someone to take a picture . Last I checked, the whole city likes the idea of us being together so I don't see where the problem is, plus you kissed me back remember ? You wanted me just as much as I wanted you."

Angelo held his breath and scratched his eyebrow just one time before he let it out.

"Tricia- what we did, what happened at the hospital can not happen again."

Now she couldn't hold it back, she couldn't hold back the frown that had found it's way on her face, humbling the smile she wore initially.

"Why Angelo? Why all of a sudden?" She asked him. "It's her isn't it? It's because you're married?"

"Exactly Tricia," he said weakly, "it's because I'm married now."

Patricia grunted and turned away, she didn't want to hear it anymore, she didn't want to listen anymore.

"A scandal like that could ruin everything," Angelo went on, he was going to get her to hear him, to listen to him. "Everything I'm trying to build with the company, how can I get people to trust that I'm good for the company if I keep messing around like this?"

"Messing around?" She turned to him immediately, getting visibly offended by his choice of words. "Messing around?"

Angelo exhaled weakly,

"L-look it doesn't matter-"

"Angelo, what are you even doing? Are you really going to look me in the eye and tell me you really care about that woman? "

"Patricia-"

"She doesn't even love you Angelo, can't you see that? She's just using you."

"That's-that's not true. " Angelo was really quick to Anna's defense. He took a step closer to Patricia. "We have finally agreed to try to fix our marriage Tricia, Anna wants to make it work just as much as I do-"

Patricia rolled her eyes and scoffed.

"Can you hear yourself? She's an Atian Angelo, Atians don't care for anyone except themselves.  One day, she's going to have to choose between you and her people, do you really think she'd choose you?"

Angelo paused for a while, Patricia was saying a lot to him while he was trying to reach for him

"Angelo, I love you. " Patricia said in a whisper. She could feel her voice break while she tried to stop herself from crying. Angelo looked at her, squinting his eyes as he watched her. "It was supposed to be just the both of us and no one else, how can you say this? How can you say you're leaving me for her?"

"Tricia, I know I've not really been a good friend-"

"Friend?" She asked him, disappointment in her tone.  "so now we're friends?"

"What do you expect me to say?"

"Jesus Angelo, just a few months ago we had plans, we were going to go back to Germany and be together. We had sex, great sex. You said you were never going to let them break us apart and look now, you're the one ruining this."

"Patricia it's not as easy as you make it seem. Things changed, as much as I hate to admit that I've hurt you a lot with everything happening right now, lying to you about how I feel is going to be worse. "

"Then keep lying to me!" She yelled. "If telling me you want to be with me and that you love me is a lie then keep telling them to me till my ears hurt from hearing them because I don't care about the truth!" She was breathing so fast

"I'd never accept it. I'd never let her take you away from me. She doesn't deserve you-"

"It is me!" Angelo yelled back  at her without thinking. He was sick of it, he was tired of the back and forth. The entire house became so quiet

"You think I'm enjoying this? You think I don't hate that I'm hurting you like this? I did this, I made those promises I wasn't sure I was able to keep, and then I broke them, all me, and I'm sorry-"

Patricia exhaled

"Don't ." She didn't want to hear it, she didn't want to hear anything else he had to say.

"Patricia if there's anyone that is less deserving of me, it's you. I don't deserve you, I can never be able to give you want you want- I can never make you happy because I'm in love with someone else."

"Don't say it."

"No I need to."

"Do not say a word Angelo!" Patricia warmed him. There was no way she was going to let him rub his feelings for Anna in her face like that. She didn't care, she just couldn't take it, she couldn't bear hearing him admit to it.

"I love her Tricia, I love Anna."

"I asked you not to say it!" She slapped him hard. Patricia was so furious that she could not hide the tears in her eyes from just letting itself out anymore. Yes she was crying

She turned away quickly to stop herself from noticing how red Angelo's face was, from noticing how bad she had hurt his face.

Angelo sniffed. Of course he was going to let it go, it was Patricia and he was sure he deserved it

Patricia sniffed just as he raised his head to look at her, she could not even bring herself to look at him.

"I hate you!" She told him, "You're a jerk, and I wish I never knew you." She slowly turned to face him. "I'd never let you be happy with her, I'd ruin it. Whatever spell she has cast on you I'd ruin it, and then I'd ruin you."

"Patricia-"

"Get out." She sniffed, trying to clean her tears off her face. She wanted to act strong at that moment. She needed to. She was too embarrassed to face him, to hurt to look at him.

"Get out now Angelo. I don't want to see you anymore, just leave." Her voice broke. She was going to start crying again

"Patricia, I'm really sorry-"

"Please Angelo!" She yelled at him.

Angelo understood just how upset she was. Maybe leaving wasn't a bad idea after all. He knew she needed her space and he had to respect that it wasn't the best time to push it. Angelo nodded, he turned to go. Patricia was already crying so hard, a part of her didn't want him to leave but she was too hurt to care. She watched him open the door slowly and then walk out

Her legs were starting to fail her as he started to walk out of the door. She couldn't help herself anymore, she slowly let herself fall into one of the chairs. It was like her whole world had come crashing down.

She felt so helpless, she couldn't hold it back anymore. She was going to cry this time and she was going to cry to her heart's content. She was scared and at that moment, she knew she was completely alone.
