Part 3

"Flawless. Absolutely flawless." Lapis mused. "Your jettés are so perfect!"

"Well, your fouettés are better." Peridot said.

It was almost 1:00 am and the two of them hadn't stopped dancing. Once Lapis finished teaching Peridot the solo, they made up a whole new dance to Our Own House by Misterwives, a good old fashioned jazz duet. It was very up-tempo and full of energy.

"I'm getting kinda tired, though." Peridot yawned.

"Me too." Lapis replied. "Where do you want to sleep?"

Peridot shrugged. "Doesn't matter." She said. "I'll take the couch, I guess."

"Uhh, ok." Lapis said. "You sure? I could sleep on the couch and you could take my bed. You're the guest, after all!"

"No way, I'm not kicking you out of your room." Peridot countered with a slight smirk. This scuffle of sorts didn't exactly sound like arguing, it was a bit more like teasing. Almost like... flirting?

No way. That couldn't be right.

And yet... It totally was.

"This is stupid. I think it's obvious who should sleep on the couch." Lapis rolled her blue eyes.

"Me!" They both shouted. With a loud sigh, they turned their backs to each other.

"What if we both slept on the couch?" Lapis suggested. Peridot scoffed.

"What's the point? It's too small. Plus, what's wrong with the bed anyway?"

"Nothing. I don't know why you don't want to take it. It's got that memory foam stuff." Lapis said.

"What!?!? It does?" Peridot exclaimed.

"Yeah." Lapis nodded. She thought for a minute. What if... No way. She couldn't suggest that, could she?

"Okay, uh, this is weird. And I'm just thinking out loud here but... What if... What if we, um, we both slept in my bed?" Lapis asked, fumbling over her words.

"Platonically? Fine. Anything else? No." Peridot said. "Do you have any extra pyjamas or something?"

"Nooo..." Lapis said sarcastically, reaching into her drawer and tossing her a tank top and sweatpants. Peridot caught them with a teasing snicker and went out in the hall to change.

When she came back in, Lapis had changed into a crop top and a pair of shorts. Peridot widened her eyes a bit, all those years of dance had done Lapis's body good.

And then some.

"What?" Lapis raised her eyebrows, noticing Peridot's gaze.

"Oh! Uh, nothing." She said, snapping out of it.

"Okay, so... What... Side do you usually take?" Lapis asked.

"Which side? Are you kidding me?" Peridot scoffed, trying to get back into the harsh personality that she usually took on.

"Well, excuse me for trying to be a good host!" Lapis shot back. "But yeah, admittedly that was a dumb question. Just get in." She gestured to the bed dramatically and Peridot let out a quiet giggle. They both climbed in, trying to stay as far away from each other as possible.

There was a long silence. Slowly, they started to fall asleep, but they didn't move.

Not even an inch.
