Chapter 9
'My enemy My husband'
Nia
I sit rooted on my spot, too stunned to utter any words. My breath got stuck in my throat as I stared at the man who was the root cause of my problems.
The man I dislike from the bottom of my heart.
Viraj Malhotra.
It took every inch of my body to prevent myself from beating the shit out of him. I stiffened more when he glanced at me with a smirk already plastered in his good-for-nothing handsome face!
I shut my eyes tight and tried to suppress my anger from bursting out.
The other day when all of the doors were closed, I let myself return back to the one I closed myself.
To my home!
Being the only heir of Arora family, the burden was too much to handle. I didn't want to be associated with Arora anymore but fate had other plans.
When I returned back to my family, my mom clearly stated her terms to be part of the family again.
'Marriage'
Yeah, in order to get back to my family, I need to move in with another family. Terrific!
Mom elbowed me lightly and that was enough for me to return back to reality.
"Nice to meet you." Mom started with a fake sugary high pitched voice that almost made me deaf.
Viraj just nodded and kept glaring at me, I decided to play dumb and just pretend to not know him.
What have I done with my life?
"Viraj, this is Nilima, my daughter. I hope your father talked about this."
I side eyed my mom who had a big grin plastered on her powdery face. Ew!
I tried not to lose my calm, a sort of bubbles formed in my stomach, my heart was beating like crazy. The witch from my nightmare was sitting beside me, the reason behind my broken soul.
"Nilima?" Viraj spoke with his thick lavender voice shaking me out of the daze. I was bound to glance at him with curiosity.
He too held a curious look that soon turned into an amused one.
"Yes. I heard you two met before."
If she's that excited she can marry him!
I bite my inner cheeks to bold back the words.
"Indeed we had. In fact it was... how do I put this." He tilted his head in deep thought while my mother was at the edge of her seat. " Perhaps I could say it was a terrible coincidence."
He directly looked at me as he said with a playful smirk. The silence was too thick, they were ignoring the huge elephant in the room and the funny part was they knew it all along.
A big hearty laugh from my mother broke the thick environment. I rolled my eyes but instantly realised where I was sitting. I hope they didn't saw it, I silently roamed my gaze towards everyone's gaze and nearly sighed out in relief. Nearly!
Viraj's stare was still on me from the moment he entered the room and didn't even blink. The way he's presenting himself, I can tell he's not here with his consent either. I can guess as he didn't match his father's energy and he knowingly came late, behaved rudely without paying attention to us.
A clear signal of being forcefully taken to somewhere. Or maybe he's just being himself.
An arrogant brat.
His father Raghuveer Malhotra, the man I had only heard of being kind hearted and the most down to earth person amongst the business man was not at all his entire description.
He's acting too good to be true!
"Well, we can let the youngsters talk. They must be bored by our business talk." Raghuveer Uncle said with a laugh, Dad laughed too agreeing but the laughter died down. Nobody moved an inch.
My feet were stuck to the ground, Viraj was busy glaring at me. My palm was sweating profusely and I didn't knew how to act!
In most of the cases, He should lead the way! Well I think I should do it now. I stood up and whispered in a low voice.
"Let's go.."
Where?
I thought for a second, my face reddening from everyone's core attention on me. Viraj lifted his one eyebrow without moving an inch, instead snuggled more comfortably on the couch.
I greeted my teeth, with a sudden rush of adrenaline I paced towards him, grabbed his hand that was too huge in my grasp but still I pulled him and I slammed the door as soon as we exit.
I sighed from relief, fanning my red face. At Least I am not judged here.
But..
"What do you want?" Viraj grunted out slamming his hand on the wall. I was trapped between one breathing wall and one regular wall.
God I hate my life!
~•~
Viraj
I can't even process what happened but in a blink of an eye we were outside the room. The corridor was pretty much empty so I took my chance and slammed my hands into the wall. Trapping her before she flees again.
"What do you want?"
Nia.. No.. Nilima just blankly stared at me with no emotion.
"I don't. You tell me what you want?"
"I don't anymore."
My voice came out void of anything. It was neither anger nor aggression.
I was calm, or maybe numb?
I don't know, but at this point I don't know what I want.
I was stuck because of my father,he wanted this marriage ;I don't. Yes, I did want to get revenge on her a minute ago but at what cost? My life?
Fuck No.
I don't want to lose the whole point of my life by getting into this marriage. And I am glad it's only her.. at least I know she won't marry a jerk like me.
I sigh out loud and back away from her a few steps.
"Here's the deal, we go back inside. You call whatever this is off and we go back to our own-"
"No."
I dumbly stared at her. Did she really say no?
Fucking fuck!
"What?"
"I won't call it off-"
"You should." I yelled, running my hands through my hair. I took a quick few breaths and tried again.
"Do you really want to get married to me?" I asked but the minute it spilled out I regretted it. Great! I just admitted that I have no class.I concluded myself as a fuckboy and a total jerk. I insulted myself. Just great!
"Are you accepting that you're a b-"
"No. I am not." I quickly denied before she asked any further.
"Nia.. Nilima whatever.. I can assure you I don't want anything from you. You shouldn't either." I took a few breaths again, licked my lips and added. " You got the house, that's great for you. Now end it."
"If I could, I would." She started with a fire ignited in her eyes. "Believe me Mr. Malhotra I don't want to be anywhere near you either."
"Well then run away. Go."
I was fed up with the new fold drama. So I couldn't hide the rudeness in my tone but she asked for it. I mean she could easily say no and then it will end.
My life will be back on track. I can get revenge anytime but I will not throw away my bachelor life for it.
"Mr. Viraj Malhotra. Hear me when I say it and hear it well cause I won't repeat it." She took deadly steps towards and poked my chest with her finger.
"First of all, You don't speak to me in that tone. Never again. And second, you don't tell me what to do."
I raised my eyebrows at her little threat that was kinda adorable? Why do I find her enchanting when I should be raging at her audacity to threaten me?
But..
I gotta admit she looked hot when she called out my full name.
She snapped her fingers at my face with a deep frown plastered.
"Woman, your face will fold if you frown any more." She looked even more pissed now, when she realised what I just said.
"Enough!" She said grinding her teeth. "Now we both will go inside and sit like a normal person and let them talk."
"So you won't refuse me this time?"
"Why would I?"
She scoffed arrogantly tilting her head.
"Don't you have a life too? I mean why spoil each other's life when you can simply say no?"
I tried to make her realise that it wasn't a silly stupid deal, it was a serious issue that could lead the rest of our life to spend in utter disappointment and lots of arguments.
Marriage is not a joke. And I know women take marriage seriously, like my mom. They would spend their whole life in abundance and loneliness accepting whatever fate had planned for them. I see only a few women going against it and that too at what cost?
"My life's already ruined. You ruined it." She gave me a deathly glare with unshed tears glistening beautifully for a second I halt my breath as if one small breath will break her.
For the first time, She looked delicate!
How could the most common brown eyes that I had seen a millionth of times look magnificent now?
"Now, it's my turn to ruin your life."
She said in a painfully genuine tone that did twitch my heart a bit. With dead eyes staring at my soul, a slow smirk that got me enchanted, she walked towards me closing the distance between us and whispered slightly near my face.
"Be ready to be my husband."
