Chapter 17
'Dilemma.'
Nia
Viraj stood taken aback by my behaviour. I had told Adil to meet me at my Grandma's house. He needed my signature on some documents before he submitted them to the DM office. It was all going smoothly but out of nowhere Viraj bursted in looking so pissed off and annoyed. And then he had the audacity to force me into going with him.
I lost all of my senses there.
Viraj's face became dark and his piercing gaze settled on my face. But, I didn't back down. For some reason today I wanted to see to what extent he can suppress his real self. I want to meet the beast he's hiding inside. I want to push him to the core so that he unleashes his demons.
Let's see how far he can hold it.
"Don't test my patience. Do the things you are supposed to when I am telling you nicely." He hissed out with clenched jaws.
"Too bad I don't want to."
"I should warn you that disobedience can harm you."
"Then, bring it on." I stood on my ground and said with a straight face.
He ran his hands through his hair and threw the jacket away in annoyance.
"Fuck." He growled and out of nowhere grabbed my hands and pinned it behind my back. I struggled in his death grip but he won't even budge.
"Let go of me." I struggled a bit but he only put more pressure, I yelped when the pain became too much.
"Don't you try to get on my nerves... Ever." He growled dangerously low to the point I had goosebumps rising behind my neck.
"Stop. You are hurting me." I tried to wiggle free but he tightened his hold making me wince. Tears started to brim which made my vision blurry.
"I will leave you tied up in a corner for all I care. Don't ever cross the line. We can risk both of our lives."
I snickered at his threat.
"Try putting me on a chain. I will still run out till my last breath." I started with tears spilling out, suppressing the sobs from breaking out.
"I-- I won't let you take away my house. That's the only thing left of my grandma."
I started but I choke on my own words. Breaking into a fist of sobs and crying mess.
Viraj sighed and his grip around my wrist loosened. He started dragging me towards the couch. I tried to pull myself away from him but to no avail.
Shit
"Sit " He said not in a rude tone but also not too soft. It was commanding so I slowly crouched down and sat.
I wiped my tears with the back of my hand, Viraj kept standing in front of me, not moving an inch away. I caressed my now bruised wrist that was bluish and a red fingerprint was clearly visible.
He's a demon!
After a while he sighed deeply and slumped down the couch with a thud.
We were engulfed in silence apart from my sobs that I tried so hard to control.
"Let's talk about what your friend said about-"
"He didn't say anything wrong."
I hurriedly said putting up a strong defence. He rubbed his hands over his face and sighed out loud.
No matter what, I am not letting him insult my friend. He's the only one I have behind my back, supporting me. Now when Viraj tells me otherwise, I won't stand down.
Never.
He leaned forward with his hand supporting his chin, with his long fingers he covered half of his mouth with it and closed his eyes shut.
"Let's hear what he said right then..."
What?
I can't believe my ears. Is he being sarcastic right now? I immediately glanced at him but he had no emotions whatsoever, unlike a while ago he was calm and all ear.
I took a deep sigh. If he's asking for it then, I might show him how ridiculous his plans are.
"We both know you are behind my property, that's why you married me in the first place."
"Nia... I don't care if you trust me on this one but I can assure you that I don't want anything from you now."
Viraj said at a slow pace like trying to make a toddler understand why I can't have sweets.
"Why would I believe you?"
"You can chose not to. It will not change the fact." Viraj shrugged as he glanced at me. He further added now leaning back on the couch. " I don't want anything related to you, cause you alone fucked my life entirely. I was fine before you came into my life."
"Oye..." I jolted up in disbelief. I can't believe this man. "First of all, you came into my life." I pointed to him and then at me emphasizing every words.
"Anyway.." He sighed rubbing his forehead. I frowned putting my whole attention on his next words."I need you to fully grasp the fact that I didn't married you because of that property."
"Then why did you marry me?"
"I had no other choice. My father forced me just like your father forced you." He cleared his throat and continued. " We are both ill-fated, so don't try anything stupid from now on. Otherwise both of us will face worst consequences"
I glanced at him, eyebrows frowned but deep down I felt pity for him.
" You can rest assured, I won't take that property from you. Not anymore."
He casually stood up and walked out leaving me in deep thought.
I sucked in a large breath.
Now I was tangled up in it , should I trust him or not?
At one side there's Adil whom I trust with heart after all he's with me at my worst. How can I not trust him?
And then there's Viraj, I shouldn't trust him with all my guts, but the way he said what he felt today I couldn't doubt him for some strange reason.
Whom should I trust here?
~•~
Viraj
That Adil is no good for Nia.
He filled her mind with rubbish.
That dumbfuck didn't even know me yet he's the one who's getting inside Nia's head.
To be honest, it's my character that made Adil doubt me to the point he filled Nia's head. In the business world I am known as a hunter, who won't back down no matter what.
If I like it, then I own it.
But, for Nia it's different.
I don't know why though. I don't like to connect myself emotionally when it comes to business but whenever I look at that house I see Nia and her tears.
That night, she looked vulnerable to the point I felt a pinch of guilt swelling inside my cold heart.
I was left alone in my room, working. At least the laptop on my lap says that but my mind is dwelling somewhere else.
Or with someone else.
I can't get her out of my mind!
The ringing noise got me out of my daze, I picked it up without even looking at the contact.
"Where's my daughter in law?"
I hissed when my father's voice boomed from the phone. I immediately threw my hands afar but then again held it near my ear.
"Where she belongs."
"Tonight you both have to attend the dinner party. I have invited a few important people whom you both should meet."
"Sorry. We are not free."
I was about to cut the call when he roared loudly.
"You will come." He paused for a bit, probably waiting for my answer but I am too his son, I didn't speak a word . He sighed out loud and again spoke in a raspy tone.
"Do one thing, I will send you a document and I need you to get it signed by your wife. Anyhow."
"Why?" I shrugged when he fell silent.
"You will make her sign it or I will. Choice is yours." My father said in a low voice threatening me with his empty threats.
"Don't you dare!"
"You know I like challenges. Unless you want to resign from your CEO position. I suggest you try to defy me."
He said grumpily and cut the call. I grabbed my hair, I don't know what he will say or do but I can smell his twisted thoughts from miles away.
I bet he's making the best out of the public scene he made with our marriage.
I can't avoid him anymore, I have to formally introduce Nia to my family. That's why he held the party tonight.
So, now there's no other way but to face her, again. I hope I have made her pretty clear.
Let's hope for the best.
...
The sun was setting down now, I finally got engaged in my work to the point I forgot to check up on Nia.
I can't stall anymore. I must face her.
I slowly walked downstairs, I expected a cold environment but instead the sound of cutlery clinking and knife hitting the chopping board hinted someone's presence. On top of that a kind of aromatic smell hit my nostrils and my stomach growled.
I walked straight to the kitchen without further ado.
Nia was busy frying something on the stove, her back was facing me. I leaned onto the door frame and silently watched her do chores.
She kind of flows when she sways in a rhythmic way.
I was yet again charmed by the beauty .
With a swift turn, she halted in her spot. Her eyes meeting mine, we both froze for a moment. I cleared my throat and went to fetch some water and returned with a bottle of water.
"Where are you going?"
"In my office. Why?"
"I will bring tea and some snacks." Her voice came out so timid and somehow sweet, like if I raise my voice she'll break away.
Perhaps she understood my dilemma too?
I am relieved that she chooses to at least understand the situation.
"Thanks." I curtly nodded and walked in my office.
God, how can she be both fierce and vulnerable at the same time?
Like a few hours ago she was down to beat the shit out of me and now she looks so fragile that I want to protect at all cost.
My laptop beeps with a new email from my father. I rolled my eyes and opened the PDF, he even marked where the sign is needed.
I read the papers carefully with a frown. The doors to my office went wide open and Nia came inside holding a tray.
What the actual fuck!?
I clenched my jaws trying not to show any emotions.
It's... her property papers.
