Chapter 1
'A Life To Die For'
Viraj
"Sir, we tried. But-"
"you failed."
The manager wiped his forehead, trembling slightly.
I clenched my jaw hard and glared at him. It's his luck that he's not in front of me.
I disconnected the video chat and slammed my fist irritated at those dipshits.
I had asked for one thing.
One simple thing.
How incompetent!
Fuck!
I tapped the button on my desk a few times. My office door flew open within a second.
"Yes sir?"
John asked with a pen and a notebook in his hand ready to note down. He had been my assistant for the past few years.
He had a fire within him,to prove his worth; he would do anything.
"Dig information about the owner of the property."
"I already researched. The owner is no more. And someone wants to build that house into an orphanage."
I quirked my eyebrow, amused.
Orphanage? That's new!
"Any offer given by us?"
"None sir."
I hissed and gritted my teeth at the recklessness of my employee. I might have to visit my office again!
"Book my flight back home." He nodded understandingly. "I need to teach the bastards a lesson."
"Anything else?"
"Get my luggage from the penthouse. Inform my father about the emergency. "
He nodded and left the office. I sighed leaning back on my huge leather chair.
When I became the CEO of our company, I wanted to extend our business overseas. Since I joined, our company has been flourishing very well. I had to frequently travel to attend various meetings and visit many sites. Being at top was exhausting but it was worth it.
Recently, my father gave me my next big project; to open a shopping complex. He gave me his suggested location which was in a perfect place, not in the centre of chaos, and not too aloof.
Before leaving for Italy, I had made sure to get the land before my arrival. But those good-for-nothing people couldn't get hold of the property.
I swear, I'm feeding the wrong dogs.
'Knock'
A sudden knock got me out of my daze, John peeked in and proceeded to enter carrying files.
"Sir, the car is ready."
I nodded and got up.
I took my blazer, John picked my laptop and we both headed out of my office.
____
As soon as I exited the airport, we directly went to the company. When I entered, all I heard were loud gasps and rapid footsteps, some shrieks and muffled noises.
I walked straight to the elevator with John trailing behind me.
"Call the manager and his team. Now."
John immediately rang the department.
I sighed out loud, my body ached from sleep deprivation but I maintained my poker face.
The elevator dinged open and I walked out straight to my office.
"A cup of black coffee. Hurry."
John spoke to the receptionist while still walking behind me. The lady scurried off instantly with a pale face.
My phone rang as soon as I entered my office.
It was my Father so I was obliged to answer.
"What happened?"
His voice came stiff and strict.
"As of now, I called for a meeting. These dumb people can't do a single thing."
"I see. Handle this without complicating it."
I walked towards the huge glass window, keeping my back towards John, I rolled my eyes and held back a sigh.
A headache was already forming at the back of my head. I was used to it so I paid no heed at the throbbing pain.
"Don't worry, Father. I will get my hands on that property anyhow."
"Good! If you need help, I am always here."
"Sir, they are here."
I turned around to face them, all standing with their head low. With a frown I took my seat, silently. The walls echoed with their shaky breath, fear already settling in them.
Good!
At least, they have some dignity left to realise their incompetence.
I smirked, but didn't say anything. John stood at the corner quietly, enjoying the show. They fiddle at the uncomfortable situation but they brought it themselves.
"We did try to get in contact with the owner.Turns out she is no more so-"
"You gave up" I finished his sentence. He gulped nervously, shaking his head.
"We tried-"
"Who lives there?"
The manager's eyes went wide, he looked at both of his co-workers' faces, but none of them had the answer. All of the trio's faces paled, they scattered the papers which were in their hands.
"A woman?"
One of them stuttered out, confused.
"John." I called, my voice thundering across the room. The three men gulped nervously in front of me. "Tell them."
"Nia Arora, works as a receptionist at a restaurant. Wants to transform the house into an orphanage. Currently she is collecting paperwork to legally register -"
I gestured to him to stop with a smirk plastered in my face. As John spoke their faces became pale and dark. I caught them slacking red handedly, and everyone knows I don't tolerate lazy and unprofessional people.
"I asked for one thing and this is the result." I growled at them.
"You are all fired. Dismissed."
They gasped and even blurted out dishonest apologies. John evacuates them out, literally dragging all of the three.
These unskilled morons are my weakness.
I am glad John had done a background check on that woman. Anyway, she must be nerdy and old for all I care. I just have to get my hands on that land anyhow.
John returned after a while with a cup of coffee. I sighed out loud and finally slumped back into my comfortable chair.
I shut my eyes tightly, my brain will probably explode at this rate. John quietly kept the coffee on the table and was about to leave but halted at my words.
"Hire a new team, immediately but keep in mind, quality over quantity. They must be dedicated and hard working."
"Sure sir.
"Compensate that woman. We can give her either money or property." He nodded scribbling it down.
"Or better, we can give her a furnished home equal to the size of the current one. And extra money to run her orphanage."
John suggested and I ran my hands through my hair.
It's a good idea.
If we gave her enough property and funds to run her orphanage, that's all she wants anyway.
"Let's go with the first one. If she doesn't agree then offer her the second one."
"Sure. Excuse me." He answered his phone walking a bit further.
John was an excellent employee with no exception. He had the decency to work hard and earn honestly.
He does his research before concluding anything. I expect only top tier employees in my office. Tardiness will eventually lead to one's death.
"Sir, meeting Miss Nia would be impossible. She doesn't reply back to any emails, text or call. I did try to connect with her through her friend. Turns out she will be meeting with Mr. Dhiren Lal Singh tomorrow."
I frowned at his words, he maintained eye contact as he added. "If she gets the Support Letter from him, she will be unstoppable."
'She knows his power.'
"Connect me with the minister." I smirked and leaned back relaxed.
"Let my money talk."
We will meet soon! Very soon.
