Chapter 3
The next morning I woke up extra early, got showered, make my lunch which was leftovers just like John has said. Still I had enough time to get to work on time, walking out of my apartment I look over just in time to see John walk out and boy does he look different. He was in slacks, a nice shirt and a blazer. Needless to say this guy could clean up well. I just worse a simple grey pencil skirt with a white blouse. Yeah boring I know but who do I want to impress really?
"Hey Red, you are up on time. Come on lets head to the office." John says as we both enter the elevator.
Of course we aren't the only ones in here. Turns out Mr. Smithers and one of his late night women were there as well. Making out, oh too much for my stomach first thing in the morning. They wouldn't stop either not even when John cleared his throat. The woman apparently was still a bit drunk and almost bumped into me and would have if John hadn't pulled me out of the way and into him.
"Seriously, if Penelope finds out about all these women you won't have a job Smithers." John said with a gruff voice.
The elevator dings and we all walk out the front doors. John pulls me in the direction of the office as Smithers says good bye to his lady of the night, a conversation I was very happy I would miss. Walking was something I knew I would have to do a lot here so I had my heels in my bag and wore my flats on my way to work, pretty clever if you ask me.
"Is it common that Smithers is well with a new woman every night?" I ask just out of sheer curiosity.
"He's a man whore, he will take any woman who is more than willing which is why you should stay away from him Red." John says as he adjusts his bag on his right arm. "He's nothing but trouble."
John didn't have to tell me twice. Just meeting Smithers yesterday was enough of a warning. The wink made me thing he was a player and it turns out that I was right. Walking back into the museum and to our secret office area I still thought it was kind of fun.
"Which book did Penelope make it?" John asked a bit frustrated.
Smiling I remembered it clearly. Looking to the books I found the one that was about Cesar. Pulling it the bookcase moved and John looked at me with a raised eye brow.
"Cesar, just remember that." I said with giggle as I went into the hall before him.
"Will do Red." He told me and I was pretty sure he was smirking.
Walking to my office and inputting my code I laid my stuff down just as Penelope walked up.
"Thank god you're here, do you know how to put books back into their proper places in a library?" Penelope asks me and to be honest she looks desperate.
"Yes, why do you ask?" I ask wondered why she would need me to do that.
"Heather accidentally knocked a few books over in the Rome Section so I was hoping you would help put them away, that way you could study as well. Don't do it now towards the end of the day would be easier." Penelope say as she walks out of my office.
Towards the end of the day? Well she was the boss so why not? Either way, I decided to go to John to try and get the hang of things. This led to a tour by him just to let me know about eh exhibits and why they were there and historical importance. This was a super long tour but I learned a lot. The Gladiator exhibit was very uh gruesome to say the least. We of course since gladiators were just form of entertainment then. Still some of the statues they had in the exhibit were creepy.
"Alright, you may wanna go start putting those books away. Closing time in an hour." John said with a laugh clearly happy he wasn't the one asked to clean up Heather's mess.
Nodding I start to try and remember where John told me to go, the library was huge...and a mess especially in the Roman section. Oh Heather I already don't like you for giving me such a freaking mess to clean up. Still standing here and staring wouldn't get anything done. Sighing I begin to pick up the books and properly catalog them. I didn't know how long I had been there but Penelope asked if I wanted to leave and I replied no saying I just wanted to get it done. Then she began to tell me how to lock up after I would leave, whenever that would be.
Not knowing how long I had been there I began to put up the books. Whoever did this before me had no idea that in the world they were doing so I ended up re doing a lot. Just as I went to put another book away I heard a loud clanging noise coming from the roman section just outside the library. Sitting the books down I began to make my way to the entrance of the section.
"Hello?" I called out in a small voice afraid that somehow someone would actually reply to me.
Nothing, not a sound nor a peep. Still I was afraid someone was inside and would try and steal one of the artifacts. Grabbing a fake sword from an exhibit I held it in my arms as I walked forward. No this sword probably wouldn't do much damage but I could poke someone's eye out with it, eww gross thought. Just then I heard the clang sound again followed by a loud yelp.
"Hello! Is anyone there?" I call out as loud as I can.
Turning around the corner I am dead scared and surprised to see someone actually looking back at me. Someone dressed like an Ancient Roman and he doesn't look happy either. Gulping I try to back up with the sword still in front of me.
"Just take what you want, stay away from me." I say in almost a stutter as the thing or man or whatever starts to walk my way.
"Woman, put the blade down." The man states calmly.
"No way, you could kill me or rape me or something." I say as I keep the sword where it was right in front of me.
"I am no barbarian, nor do I like to be back talked by a woman." He says with a voice full of ego.
"I beg your pardon, just because I am a woman doesn't mean that I won't poke out your eyes asshole!" I yell at him as my back straightens clearly showing I am offended by him.
"Ha she just called him an asshole." Another male voice states from behind me.
Oh dear god there is more than one? Slowly turning behind me I see yet another man looking down at me. This one though is dressed like a gladiator, and when I say dressed I mean he is barely wearing anything. He doesn't have any weapons but he just laughs and looks at the roman before me.
"She ain't afraid of you, she has a weapon as well." The man states.
"What the hell!" I yell and take off running as fast as I can.
What in the hell is going on?! I try to run back to the library only to see the entrance blocked off by other gladiators.
Stopping in my steps I look around. I am in the ancient Rome section, if I could get to the bookcase I could get to my office and call for help. In heels though. Standing still I keep the sword in my left hand and slowly begin to remove my shoes. One by one I am happy when they are off and the gladiators look at me as if I were insane and at this moment I might agree with them. One decides to take action though and runs my way.
"ah!" I yell as I take off running through the exhibits only to be caught by the first gladiator.
"Arvo, leave the poor woman be, we may scare her to death. No need to fear us maiden, I am Hercleth just a simple gladiator and I promise not to hurt you." The man, statue thing says to me.
"Your...how? Your not real, this is all some crazy dream or jet lag oh yeah lets go with that." I say as I look away for a moment.
"Not a dream, real, we are real." Hercleth tells me and he looked dead serious.
"Oh my god, I've gone crazy." I say and then pass out.
