Chapter 2
Ms. Stanton who now preferred that I call her Penelope was with me as she showed me how to get to the place that I would now call home in this country. The streets here looked older but that just made me feel all the more welcomed here. Every now and then we would hear someone say something to us in Italian and sense I didn't know much Penelope would answer for us and I am pretty sure I didn't want to know what she was saying back to them.
"We're here." She said as we walked up to a very modern looking building. "I know, it's a brand new building but you get used to it."
Walking up to the door she puts in yet another code. Good grief I am going to need a book just for all the codes I am going to have to memorize here. Walking inside to the foyer we saw a door man who stood and took of his hat to use before greeting us with a hello. Penelope grabbed her cellphone and looked like she sent a group text. Within a few minutes the elevator opened and six new people were staring me down. Four men and two women. A part of me wanted to run for the hills.
"Everyone this is Nessa Austen she is now going to help John and the other American in the Ancient Rome section." Penelope says as they walked forward to us.
"Heather Starns, Ancient Egypt, Writing and text." A dark haired woman said to me with somewhat of a smile and then went to the side.
"Thomas Smithers, Ancient Egypt, Audio and Visual." The man with light blonde hair and looked too young to work at the museum said to me with a smile and a wink and then went to stand behind Heather.
"Marco Gathron, Ancient Greece, Texts." Another blonde man who looks like a god in human form says to me with a shy smile then walks to the side.
All these people worked with me? How in the world is that possible?
"Felica Patron, Ancient Greece, History." A blonde woman said too busy with her phone to even look up at me and just went to the side.
"Todd Pennington, Ancient Egypt, History." A man with dark brown hair and a nicely tanned body said and gave me a friendly handshake and then went off to join the Egypt people.
"Last but not least, John Baltimore, Ancient Rome same as you and wherever the other one of us is." John said, he had a mix of red and brown hair and it was a bit curly too, something I hadn't seen very often.
"Well he should arrive soon, Miss Austen was quite anxious to join us. Now John why not show her the fourth floor you two split well I suppose split in thirds actually." Penelope said as she walked off with a bit of a skip in her step.
The others said their quick goodbye and went off, I guess I would be seeing a lot more of them at work anyway so I just shrugged it off. John motioned for me to follow him, which I did. Going to the elevator he pressed four and then looked at me.
"You sure you're old enough to work in a museum?" John asked me with a chuckle.
"Yes, I am very sure but thanks for the compliment." I told him as he just laughed at the same time the elevator door dinged and opened.
"Three apartments are on each floor, this is the Ancient Rome floor, obviously where you and I along with the other guy live. I already chose apartment one so you have your choice of two or three. Either way just put in the code Penelope gave you at the office for your apartment and it will remember ya." John said leading me over to the other two apartments. "Their all the same so just pick a number."
I always preferred even numbers so I decided to go with number two. Walking to the door I dig out the piece of paper and input the code in the lock. I hear a click and the door opens. Walking inside everything was brand new and stainless steel appliances. Something I had always wanted. I sat my bag on the couch along with my purse as John stared at me from the door.
"We have to be at work by 8, think you can handle that sweet heart?" he asked with a grin.
"No problem, I will be up bright and early, thanks." I tell John as he looks at me kinda skeptical.
"Have you ate anything today Red?" he asks me obviously choosing my nickname from my hair color.
Shaking my head no he walks inside and shuts the door. Going into the kitchen he opens everything only to show there is absolutely no food at all in this apartment. Go figure I mean after all I literally just got here today and I doubt cabinets magically stock themselves.
"Alright, order out and that way you can take leftovers for lunch tomorrow." He says about to walk out.
"Wait! I don't speak the language too well yet, I have been working on it really hard though." I say as I almost mentally prepare myself for a lecture.
"Takes time, ok I'll order and you can tell me about why you're here. I'm sure that's an interesting story." He says pulling out his cell phone.
Oh great, hope he doesn't want to know my life story, that would be one heck of a short book.
