Disney Princess
"You know Lullaby For A Stormy Night?" Steven asked Jacob as they laid on opposing couches in the basement.
He had seen serious potential in bringing Jacob's range even further, and sure enough the impish man had a magnificent falsetto.
Steven was a great teacher, ever patient with each one of them. His vocal range had been fine tuned, first starting off at an impressive 4 1/2 octaves now up to 11 2/3. On the road he'd had a lot of time to sing. He'd often hike and sing along to the thoughts in his head, or mumble them to a stream. He was so extra talented now that he could hit whistle tones that only animals could hear and deep rumbling notes that shook things.
Jacob showed a surprising affinity up to the top of an average woman's range. Stevens versatility and creativity combined with Jacob's steady and soulful singing made quite the lovely team. Steven would take higher, complex harmonies and Jacob would keep melodious rhythm along with him.
They'd start with perfect harmony, their voices ringing so similar they seemed to intertwine. "And someday you'll know
That nature is so," Then at a signal from Steven, one or two, Jacob would know which octave to sing in: head or soprano while he pulled harmony.
"The same rain that draws you near me
"Falls on rivers and land
On forests and sand," And back to in sync. Timing was everything, Steven had told them again and again.
"Makes the beautiful world that you'll see
In the morning."
Steven took a piano falsetto as a demonstration. "Everything's fine in the morning."
Jacob shut his eyes and let the air inside him move the way it was supposed to, a voice still distinctly Jacob's carrying Stevens grace and vocal agility.
"Way to go, Jacob. You'll be better than I am in no time," Steven exclaimed softly. Singing always calmed him and teaching was no different. He could lie on the couch and sing in a relaxed environment that kept them relaxed too. Sometimes they'd go on walks while he pointed out sounds and their notes. It had sharpened their ears and created a perfect and literal sense of harmony between them. Steven had a less complicated way of looking at music and he was more than happy to ramble about it for hours.
"Liar." Jacob was comfortable in his precarious position: half lying off the couch and half on. Besides the constant, crushing, suffocating fear of Jasmin not coming home and then the heavenly joy of her coming back, voice lessons were the highlight of his week. Steven had the power to physically float, and he'd taught Jacob the power to mentally float. "I just like spending time with you dude, it's not a goal to even get better than better than average."
Steven snorted. "I love you too, Jacob. Okay. Honeybee, but you sing top."
"Sweet, I never get to top."
"That's because you're a bottom disguised as a switch. Jasmin's an exception. From the top all the way through."
