It's a Date Then ✔
"Let's go see a movie."
I pause the show and look at him. He does not look back as I give him my confused expression.
"What is this about?" I ask curiously. He shrugs and gives me a classic smirk.
"I just said let's go see a movie. No strings attached," he says confidently. The sly fox, as suspicious as he already seems to be, picks out his phone. "They released some new ones recently in theatres. I think they have a new horror film out. I've been dying to see it."
I huff, "well, it is late October." He shows me his phone and the showtimes for each movie appear in a list underneath the Google search. "Why would I go see a movie anyway. You might slip me some medication in my drink or something." I cross my arms as he pulls back some. "It's happened before."
"I'll be there the entire time. How the hell would I slip medication to you if I don't have any in the first place?" He is as thin-skinned as ever. "You destroyed them remember." He clicks on something and shows me again. "Let's watch this," his finger hovers near the screen. The movie poster shown is of a terrifyingly old nun. A creepy one at that. Who even comes up with this horrifying stuff? It is plain scary looking!
"Let me get this straight. You want to take me to see a movie about an evil nun?" I raise my eyebrow at him. I do not normally watch horror movies. I never could let myself in the first place, but mostly because I am terrifyingly scared of them. My instincts probably want me to avoid unnecessary problems that might arise during such a film.
"You are correct, bunny boy. And it starts late tonight, so you might want to get ready seeing as it is almost supper time." He suggests at the time on his phone. I sigh loudly and give in to this silly idea of a movie date.
"Fine." I find myself getting ready in front of the bathroom mirror. The tangled mess of purple is thrown up into a sloppily, small bun. You could really notice the bags beginning to appear under my eyes. Sleep is something I apparently am not too good at nowadays. I wish I can pass out the moment my head hits the pillow. The baggy sweater I wear sits nicely on my frame, and my jeans compliment the grayness of it. Colorful Vans then follow suit to finish it off the desired look. I take a moment to spare a long look before making the way downstairs. Foxy is tying up his old boots by the front door. I notice he wears a dark sweater with a velvety red for the jeans. A good match for this seasonal cold.
"Are you ready?" I break from my trance and see him opening the door for me. I raise my hand for a weak salute. My lips sport a small smile.
"Yes sir," I respond, dropping my salute. My left hand instinctively checks my pockets for my phone. I can not leave that behind, now can I? The rectangular shape stands out, and I just I leave it be. When we step outside, there is a Jeep with a rental sign dangling on the mirror.
"Funtime is letting me use the rental for now. It's good on gas." I take the passenger side while Foxy places some things in the back seat.
"I should sell my car if I'm never going to use it." I say unconsciously. It accidentally leaves me because I am just thinking about my car that I barely use.
He smiles very jokingly, "don't be like that. Think about it like this. In a way, you don't have to pay for gas or anything like that." It almost sounds like sarcasm, but it isn't. "No mechanical repairs, broken dials, and such. You get the idea?"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Tell me again why we are headed to a movie?" I moved the subject over by trying to question him. He does not seem to want to answer, but he at least tries to say something.
"To get your stubborn ass out of the house of course."
"Sure, whatever you say." There's nothing much I can really do here. I remain seated and silent, waiting for him to hurry up. When we eventually arrive, after an hour of driving to the mall, there are a lot of people waiting in long lines. By looking at them, I already have the feeling that J want to go back home. They either are waiting for tickets or for the overly expensive concessions.
"Okay, we are getting popcorn, maybe food and definately drinks. Is there anything you want exactly from here before we go in?"
"Popcorn sounds totally fine, obviously. I'm cool for a soda, and a simple hamburger is fine, really." Like a happy fox, he dashes away to stand with the other idiots. I'm not calling him an idiot, yet I see no reason not to clump him in with them. It takes ages for him to get the food and even longer for me to get our two tickets. Good thing it isn't crowded. We barely make it in time before the lights start to dim.
The movie is great, wonderful in fact. Don't get me wrong though, but Foxy is enjoying himself a bit too much as the plot progresses. When I say a bit too much, I mean way too much. The movie ends and I am a bit shook from the ending. How can they not realize that the evil nun is still there? We sit in the Jeep, the keys sitting in the ignition still. It isn't on. He is slouching over the wheel, gasping and laughing as hard as he can.
"You scream just like a girl!" He snorts, picking himself up. He brushing the hair from his face and looking at me. "I mean, you jumped at everything. It wasn't even that scary." I sit back, trying to ignore the words coming from him. The Jeep then starts, and we are moving again. I glare at him for a good few passing moments before he notices me.
"Don't worry Bonnie, I won't tease you anymore. It is normal for girls to get scared so easily." I huff looking away from the red headed idiot. There he goes again laughing at himself. I honestly don't know why he thinks it is so funny. Okay, maybe I'm no good with horror films. Which I will probably never hear the end of it after Foxy just witnessed me scared half to death while clinging to his arm desperately. But hey, I know some girls who can watch a scary movie and consider it a comedy.
"We will never speak of this, you hear," I threaten against the glass of my door. He stops laughing and turns the radio down on low.
"If you say so," he glances at me, before looking ahead, "but on one condition." I turn my head slowly at him. Here comes the long-awaited blackmail. I should have seen it coming, at least from this sly fox. What an idiot.
"I won't tease or speak of this again, even though you were pretty cute clinging to me for life." I glare at him again, causing him to chuckle and go on. "If, and only if, you promise, no, swear to take your medicine this time. No throwing them away or substituting. That's all I ask."
"Fine," I mutter. Anything to get him to shut up about it. I simply see no point in fighting this. I'll most likely find a way to dodge it, I mean, I do it all the time. Foxy gives off a bewildered expression like he didn't expect me to agree so fast to his ridiculous terms, and quite easily I must say.
"And you swear?" He reassures. I look away and rest on the window.
"Yes, I'll take them if you shut up about it." From the corner of my eye, he is typing away at something on his phone. I do not condone the act of driving and texting, but I will let it slide this one time. I just make sure to keep my eyes on the road.
"I would feel a lot safer if you didn't text while driving," I inquire. He shuts his phone off and keeps driving all whilst distraction free.
"Well I did just order your refill. Which, by the way, we are getting right now," he says as the Jeep swerves into a parking lot. I cling to my seatbelt, a hand grabbing at the safety handle above me too. Once everything comes to a stand still, I read the glowing open sign to a small pharmacy. "Good thing your brother had extras left here, otherwise it would be months before we got a new bottle. Stay here. I'll be back, but when we get home, you are taking these. Then straight to bed, got it." I roll my eyes, staring out at the trees and passing cars.
"You realize they actually do the opposite, right?" I ask. I just want to make him aware.
"They keep you up, yes. Which is why you'll be going to bed before it kicks in. Now stay put," he taps the door and leaves, disappearing inside the empty place. I watch his walk with passion until he disappears behind the shelves in the back. My phone starts ringing. The caller ID flashes brightly, pulling me away from the store window.
"Hey, Chica!" I use the enthusiasm I have left to respond.
"There's my baby boy!" Her loud voice bounces off the other line. "I know your with Foxy right now, so I'll make this quick!" I have no idea what she is going on about. She is the type of person who will take a bit to get to the point of her call. She mentions something that will be happening in the next few weeks. A party I think by the way she's really pumped up about it. The girl lives to celebrate. "Before you take a guess, yes, it is a party. Not just any normal party."
"Oh boy, I wonder what she has planned," I sarcastically interrupt.
"Let me finish!" She snap playfully. "It's a holiday party! Mostly because December is around the corner."
"We still got quite some time before that happens," I interrupt her yet again.
"I know, I know, but I thought it would be fun to plan early, ya know!" She squeals lightly. A crash is heard and Fred calls for help in the background. It isn't a surprise since he's the clumsy type. "I have to go! By honey!" She sweetens. The phone disconnects just as the driver's door swings open. A bag is thrown at me, and it lands in my lap. I sigh heavily knowing what it is, and I watch him climb in.
"Chica's throwing a Christmas party," I say.
"She is? When does that girl slow down?" I laugh for once, and he smiles. "You've been so upset after we left the movies. It's good to see you feeling better."
"Mostly because a big, red-headed idiot wouldn't stop laughing at me since we left." I put the small bag on the floor by my feet.
"I was only teasing, nothing else," he says, closing the door. "Now let's go home." After what seems like an eternity, we finally make it home. The worst part, though, is that he makes me take my medicine in the kitchen after we got ourselves ready for bed.
"Wow, you really did make me take it," I sigh. That is probably the most defeated I will ever sound like.
"And you'll be taking them from now on, go." He ushers me up the stairs and to his room. "Your welcome to sleep on the floor, or with me, because sadly, your other sleeping space was taken by our kind guest."
"I'll sleep with you." I give up. I can only handle so much of him.
It's starting to make me tired.
