He Needs Your Love
Alright, here's a little One-Shot that just sorta happened! It is a SongFic, or a Fanfiction based on a song. The song is "The Ballad Of Jeremiah Peacekeeper" which I recently heard and this just happened! The lyrics of said song are the italics in between the paragraphs. Enjoy!
Third Person
Cody stared into the distance, his mind scattered. He could see the many rocky hills and coral, as well as the distant railways, but his mind was on one thing. War was coming, and it would be coming soon. Cody wasn't quite ready for it.
He stares out the window, blank as a canvas
Cody closed his eyes and imagined what motivated him, or more accurately, what he feared would happen if they were to fail. He imagined Atlantis in flames and rubble, the once beautiful city that he could call home, damage to the point where repair would take years. He imagined his friends and citizens dead and if any were to live, how they would live in agony, knowing they had lost.
Made up in the sunlight and swirling smoke and ash
Then the brown eyes flickered back open. War would come any minute now, and he had no way of stopping it.
He waits for a breath now
That image in his mind could very well become a reality, and that's what scares him the most. That even if they lose but his friends live, they could become prisoners of war, slaves even. Cody started to imagine every terrible possibility that could become of them. He wouldn't wish it on any of them, even if some were people he used to call evil.
Taking his time, he sees eternity in a blink of an eye
Cody is the king, and this is his city. King's have to protect their city at all costs, even their life if it comes to that.
And for him life is made of time and choices
Turning around, his city comes into his view and he starts to softly smile, remembering all the things he's done there. All the good memories, and the bad as well, but memories are memories when you are afraid of losing them.
And endless blends of vistas painted bright with memories
Cody doesn't notice the figure approaching him until it is right in front of him. He turns to see the familiar face of the snake-human hybrid he knew so well. Tanith doesn't say anything, but Cody knows why she's here. They both nod to each other and start to swim towards the portal above them.
The here and now will bow to him to only serve one purpose
The pair move ahead of the many soldiers that are ready to fight and stand in the front lines. In that line is people that Cody knows well, Professor Pikalus, Sam and Selena as well as KrakenKid, CannibalCrab and Baby Blooper. All are there, even the Tide Changers, because all of Atlantis is threatened. If Atlantis goes down, so does everyone else. They stand in a line, all ready to lead. However, Cody steps in front of them all, eyes fixated on the portal. He is ready, ready to defend his home. Though he can't see them, the seven behind him take fighting positions. They are all ready to defend him if needed.
To keep your peace
When the portal opens up and the troops of the other army pour out, Cody charges ahead, raising his spear in the air and the crystal give off a strong glow. The rest follow.
He takes on the world, all in a stride
Cody doesn't hesitate to strike the first one that comes into contact and fights, tooth and nail. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Selena taking a beating and quickly swims to aid her. In an instant, the sword meant to strike Selena hits Cody and he winces. His body contracts, trying to work through the pain. But his eyes open again, full of a fiery determination and with his Atlantean weapon, he lets out a short pulse of energy, one that hits the crowding enemies and makes all of them drop. Selena smiles, giving him a little thanks. Cody nods and goes off to continue fighting.
And your wounds will be his scars
As war rages on, Cody starts to feel the hit he took become heavier and heavier, until it feels like he'll fall apart at the next strike. His body begins to fade and he slowly sinks down, barely finding the strength to keep his eyes open. A shadow casts over him and a weapon gleams in the light. Cody knows that it's someone coming to end him, but cannot find the strength to move.
So won't you remember when night comes
Before it does, something quick strikes it in the back and it crumbles to the ground. Cody starts to make an effort to see who his savior is and grins when he finally sees them. Selena has returned the favor.
He will need your open arms
Cody attempts to move with little success. Though he can feel the power of the Nexus running through his veins, his body cannot support him. He knows he could change the tide of battle, but cannot.
For to be be invincible,
Then a warm feeling passes through him, a pleasant one. His wounds start to fade and his pain ceases. Energy returns to him and Cody finds he can get up again. Spinning around, Tanith gives him a nod, finishing up the last remaining bit of her healing magic before returning to someone else. Cody can't help but grin, knowing he's in safe hands with his friends. These people cared about him, he could tell.
He needs your love
The war pauses for a while after a little more than a day. Both sides rest up and replenish their ranks with more people. Medics find themselves busier than ever when trying to fix as many people as possible. Cody stands in his tent, trying to figure out what to do. He needs to make sure they will win.
He stands in the doorway, quiet like yesterday
War was a lot more brutal than he thought. You would think it would be the constant fear of dying or how fast everything seems to happen that would scar someone, but no. Instead, it's seeing a teammate die right in front of your eyes and not being able to stop it. It's seeing the end result, all of the bloodshed and bodies. It's the things you don't think about that get you the most. With these things, Cody tries to lock the memories away in his mind.
With forgotten thoughts become a mystery and nightmares locked away
Cody sighs and begins to think that maybe they need to use a weapon of mass destruction to make sure they win, but then he dismisses it, almost immediately. Even he cannot find the heart to do that. The damage would be too much for him to bare, even though he would be protecting his city.
He looks like a gunman, but his view is much too wide for such a solution,
Cody shakes his head and picks up his spear from off the makeshift bed. The power fluctuates for a moment but goes dormant again. Cody flips it around a bit before letting it settle into his grip. How comfortable it felt to have it in his hand again.
So he fights without a six gun by his side
Cody joins his friends at the front lines again the next night when they are about to engage again. Cody looks down the line, and notices that each of their faces holds a hopeful or determined look. Cody smiles, knowing that he can rely on each of them, and at that they will be his light in the darkness.
And all the while his stars and moon shine brightly
This time, they are the ones to charge forward, and Cody leads them there. They engage in combat once again, and power practically pours off Cody. He finds himself doing things he never thought possible, shooting down forces one by one. While he does, he can see the enemy troop's eyes. He can see the anger, fear and pain all at the same time but they keep fighting. Cody can't help but find respect for that.
Outside the desert wails a curse of rage and jealousy
But Cody keeps fighting, well into the night and day. He begins to change the course of the fight, putting it in his own favor
And yet tomorrow comes along and shifts to serve his purpose
And he does this all for the one's he loves.
To keep your peace
Cody huffs, his chest heaving and trying to suck in enough air to function properly again. He has been fighting for well over a day, and barely lets himself rest, even now. He still tries to move, enough though his body tells him to stop.
He takes the world on all in a stride,
Around him, KrakenKid struggles to pick himself off the ground, his side soaked in blood. Both of them have taken heavy hits and both needed to rest, badly. Though at the same time, both refuse to, saying they were fine. Even now, they'd do the same thing. A muscular being starts to make his way over to KrakenKid, the kraken tries to shift away but his bottom tentacles scream with pain when he does. Cody quickly lifts his spear and sends a pitiful zap in the direction of the oncoming threat, turning its attention from KrakenKid to himself.
And your wounds will be his scars
Cody lifts his head up and slowly pushes himself up to face them. They are at least two feet taller than him and twice his size, but Cody refuses to back down, even now and even though his heart races.
So won't you remember when night comes
A familiar blast rings out and the approaching threat collapses. Behind him, KrakenKid has his gun pointed where he used to be, but remains sprawled on the ground.
He will need your open arms
They share a meaningful look before help comes. Professor and Cannibal find them and quickly help them to their feet.
For to be invincible
Feeling safe again, Cody's eyes shut and he allows himself to fall asleep in Professor's hold. Cody feels like he has done enough for now, and knows he is taken care of.
He needs your love
In a final attempt to push the enemy back, Cody charges up his power, but knows during his time he is vulnerable.
He takes the world on all in a stride,
Around him, soldiers try to strike but they are all knocked away by an Atlantean getting in their way. He watches as one that tries to get him, is impaled by a sword, one that is carried by Sam. Cody wants to help, but cannot stop to help in his position and can only watch as the people around him get hurt.
And your wounds will be his scars
One breaks past the protective circle that his friends have made around him and dashes with a sword out, ready to strike.
So won't you remember when night comes
But right before they land a hit, a bubble forms around him, protective and keeping him safe. Cody smiles, knowing where it comes from.
He will need your open arms
Cody finally releases it on the enemy's leader, and upon hitting them, they fall to the ground. All of the troops panic and flee, right out the portal, with only a few left behind. Those few swim away quickly, and Atlantis is finally safe. Cody grins to all of his friends, knowing not only did they win, but his friends are still alive as well.
For to be invincible,
They all gather together for a giant group hug, laughing harder than ever before and genuine smiles plastered on their face.
He needs your love
They all get in the hospital, each getting treat but afterwards, they celebrate. They have won and their home is safe. Cody starts to have the most fun he has ever had in a long time.
For to be invincible
But at the end of it, Cody goes outside and stares up into the vast space above them. One by one, the others join him until all of them are looking up into the sky. Then, they slowly fall asleep there until Cody is the last remaining. Cody looks at all of his sleeping friends and smiles softly. He has saved them.
He needs your love
**************************
I sure hope I got the lyrics right... Near the end it repeats a lot so that's that part I was worried about.
Anyways, here it is! I made this a while ago in my free time so I figured I'd just leave it here for someone to enjoy. I did put Tanith in, main because her abilities kinda fit into the story and song.
I hope you liked this! I've tried SongFics in the past but this is my most successful one, because the rest didn't work. It's different for everyone I suppose! Be sure to comment your thoughts! Farewell!
