Pieces

21 B.C

A tormented roar ripped through the room as the walls shook. Gasps and murmurs reverberated off the walls as Amanthy felt the rest of her innocence leaving her.

They'd just announced the death of her parents, the two people who were supposed to transcend time. She could hear the breaking of stone and the echo of rubble as her other half ripped through the halls destroying everything in sight, releasing choked sobs in his wake.

Poison— that's what they said it was, but that was what ticked her off the most, how could two beings like them be subjected to poison?

"T-this isn't right, you have to be mistaken— no poison could have done this." She said through broken sobs as her voice cracked more and more with every syllable.

"I checked myself Amanthy, it's unfamiliar, but undeniably poison." Amara said laying a comforting hand on her friends shoulder. Amanthy shook her head in denial as her grief turned into rage much similar to how her other half felt.

"Who did this? Someone find out who did this!" Amanthy roared as she grabbed the nearest council member by their collar. No one bothered stopping her, knowing if they pushed her any further— there'd be no telling who she'll kill.

"W-we don't know." One of the council members stuttered out, pleading with his eyes to put the man down.

Amanthy Theoris was not satisfied with that answer. Zavarius theoris' roars could be heard from miles away as he caused destruction and carnage through Egypt.

On that day Amanthy and Zavarius Theoris threw an entire country into chaos.

——

Serenity woke up with tears rolling down her cheeks as she tried to make the images of her dream go away. She'd been having dreams like this for days now, haunted by her lovers most prominent memories.

"What's wrong?" Amanthy asked as she shifted in the bed to face the other woman. Serenity's hazel eyes swirled with emotion as Amanthy pulled her closer and wiped the steady stream with her thumb.

"Bad dream." She muttered as she buried her face in her mates neck, enjoying the constant buzz of their bond flowing between them. After the two women argued in the garden they decided to drop the conversation that was obviously getting them no where.

Serenity didn't disclose her dreams with Amanthy— she knew why she was having them. Serenity debated telling Amanthy her plans and what she knew, and who she knew— but she knew that wasn't an option with mg watching their every move. How does one outwit a divine being? Serenity asked herself that question a million times by now and she still didn't have a clear answer.

"I can practically hear you thinking Ren, I know we're in a weird place but you can talk to me." Amanthy spoke softy as she did her best to comfort the woman in her arms. Serenity felt worse after hearing those words, but also endeared to know that no matter what— she would be somebody to lean on.

"It's fine, just a lot of emotions these past few days, I think it's catching up to me." Serenity replied lightly, eliciting a smile from Amanthy as she nodded in understanding. Although Serenity withheld the full truth, the words she spoke were most definitely not a lie.

Footsteps could be heard from outside the room as people began making their way to and from, likely handling their morning obligations. Amanthy glanced at the door for a moment before turning her gaze back to Serenity.

"Maybe I can cheer you up?" Amanthy asked mischievously— reminding Serenity of the days when they would act childish together, or just laugh together.

Amanthy didn't wait for an answer as she lowered her mouth to place a kiss on her lovers neck, but of course as Serenity assumed— she didn't stop at just one. She craned her neck to provide better access, enjoying the onslaught to her skin.

The older woman trailed her neck up to her mouth as she captured her lips with hers, effectively claiming what was hers as she pulled the hazel eyed woman impossibly closer.

"Wait," Serenity muttered breathily through a kiss as she willed herself to pull back from her partner. "I know exactly where this is going, and there are way too many people walking past the door."

Amanthy smirked as a reply and Serenity felt her sneaky fingers begin to trail her side under her shirt. "Are you sure love? Because frankly I say we should let them listen." Serenity almost lost her composure after the comment left her swollen lips.

"There are children who wander these halls." Serenity said lamely, knowing kids weren't allowed on this floor of the palace.

"We both know that's a lie." Amanthy replied with a smirk as her hand traveled down her stomach until she reached the waistband of her sweats— pulling on the material teasingly as Serenity slowly lost her resolve.

The hazel eyed woman stifled a moan when she felt a wet tongue swirl on her neck briefly before sucking on the spot. "Amanthy" she let out pleadingly, trying hard not to sound desperate and failing miserably.

"Yes love?" Amanthy asked before repeating the process again, not giving her a chance to utter another word through her delirium.

Three hard knocks on the door snapped Serenity out of her haze as she sat upright in alarm. Amanthy groaned, slowly sitting up from the bed.

"You two are late for the council meeting you freaky fucks!" Zavarius hissed through the door. Serenity cringed at how loud his words were. Amanthy chuckled at his word choice as she got out of bed.

"I guess I'll just be dealing with you later then." Amanthy said leaning across the space and placing a seering kiss on her lovers lips. Serenity felt heat rising to her face as the older woman moved to start her day.

Serenity was sure Amanthy would be the death of her.

——

The council room was particularly quiet today as everyone silently worked through their paperwork and spoke only when some sort of approval was required.

Things had been oddly peaceful in the palace lately, considering Serenity always had to sort out some sort of issue on a regular basis. The only thing concerning her people that was at stake was their overpopulation problem, but seemingly she felt as though she had things under control. Things regarding Amanthy was an entirely different story though.

"Serenity can you sign off on these papers? It's regarding the energy usage for this month." Alana asked as she slid the paperwork in her direction. Serenity looked it over diligently before signing off and immediately feeling a gaze on hers as she passed it back.

She looked up in time to catch a pair of bright green eyes staring back at her. She tilted her head in question but to no avail as the woman smiled exposing her dimples and turned her attention back to her work.

Serenity sat there feeling amazed at the fact that she was still utterly in love with Amanthy Theoris, time be damned. What was really wild to her was the fact that Amanthy knows this, she knows the power she has over Serenity yet she doesn't let up— she's relentless in the best way possible.

Serenity sucked in a sharp breath and turned her attention back to her work. Having Amanthy back here is going to be harder than she thought.

——

"It's your move."

Two divine beings sat perched in their chairs as they faced each other with menace, a small square table being the only thing that separates them. A slender arm reached across the table, swiftly making her move— hoping to throw off her opponent, which she knew wasn't likely.

"Hmm your getting very sloppy mg, wouldn't want me to take advantage of such an opening like this would you?" Her opponent chuckled as she swept one of her pieces from the board and effectively replacing it with her own.

"Check mate." she said with a wide smirk adorning her ethereal features.

Immediately the energy shifted. Only the two of them knew what this game truly meant, the weight that lies on their shoulders every time they move a piece. The energy around them crackled as it took on new forms, ultimately affecting the world around them.

"What? Do you have no words? You made a mistake running your little mouth as if your superior, you and I both know that the last few rounds are irrelevant, I voluntarily forfeited those matches— I voluntarily let you control the energy of this dimension."  The woman spat at the being known as the moon goddess. Only the two of them knew the truth.

"The last time you had control you threw the world into chaos Thora." Mg said shaking her head. Thora's smirk faded as she leaned forward making her pale white tendrils frame her face as she stared back at the pitch black eyes that looked exactly as her own.

"Let me make something clear, you and I have never been on the same level, your position was given to you on a whim. You don't think I haven't noticed you meddling in my plans? You've gone corrupt, mg" Thora said as she rose from her seat. Mg felt the superiority of her status as she projected her emotions to her. The energy received almost made mg feel sick for the first time in a millennium.

"I understand Thora." She replied knowing it was no longer her time of power.

"No I don't think you do understand. Serenity Smith was my own little project and you meddled until you got your way, Amanthy and Zavarius were your jurisdiction, but of course you couldn't stick to that!" Thora's anger elicited booming thunder that echoed around them as the energy shifted once again.  "I have claimed my power back and I believe it's within my jurisdiction to serve you a reasonable punishment"

Mg winced at the words, trying to come up with the worst scenarios. She didn't like the smirk that returned to the other woman's face as she continued.

"I already know what I'll do with you dear sister."
