❦ Thirty Three
As you were busy with trouble outside with Tetsutetsu and Komala, Pikachu was enjoying a meal with your friends.
The mouse sat on top of one of the lunch table, chewing on these small berries Uraraka had provided. With a berry on his paws, Pikachu munched on it, taking in the absolute sweetness enveloping his mouth, before swallowing it all down whole in satisfaction. The taste was refreshing for the mouse, who worked hard on the cavalry, and he can't help but emit happy squeaks that catapulted the girls' hearts to joy.
Crowds couldn't help but take a peep at the enchantment, watching as the singular table was filled with happy squeals and joyful munching from a lovable mouse.
At first, Pikachu was adamant about following you to the nurse's office, worried about the burn you had acquired. But after some persuading on your side, he decided to follow Uraraka, who gleefully took him with stride to the cafeteria. You did explain you were going to check on the others, so he guessed he could snack a tad bit as per you suggested.
Pikachu reached into the bowl once more, finding a variant of colorful fruits piled together. In slight dissatisfaction, he had hoped there would be more types of snacks it could snack on. Frankly, He's been glancing over at Uraraka a couple of times, who he was sure you whispered to about giving him a few sweet treats, to which Uraraka nodded excitedly in response. However, the float-quirked girl simply gave a closed-eye smile whenever Pikachu sneaked a look, resting her chin on her hands without giving out any clues of her intentions.
Pikachu pouted, before going for another berry. Hagakure, Mina, and Tsuyu, who without delay followed wherever the mouse sat, were all bursting in happiness at the sight of the cute electric mouse as they each smiled at each other quaintly. All four girls had their own trays of food in front of them, but each could barely pay attention to eat when the epitome of the word 'adorable' was right there.
"...Oh my gosh, I can't stand it any longer..." Mina started, looking hurt. She glanced over at the mouse with a small frown, that was threatening to burst into a grin. Unable to contain the cuteness, she had to shake her arms wildly and let out a small squeal. "He's just too cute~!"
Uraraka couldn't agree more, clutching the place where her heart was with one hand, mouth crumbled as if to hold in her bursting heart. "Yes, yes! too cute!"
"Mhmm, me too Mina-chan!" Hagakure sighed out, unable to resist the temptation to lightly pet the mouse's ears, which stiffened in surprise before relaxing contently. Pikachu nuzzled into the invisible girl's touch easily, as Hagakure cooed. "Too, Too adorable! It's too much! How can something so cute exist in this world~!" She used her free hand to move Tsuyu side-to-side excitedly. "Ne, ne~ you agree right, Tsuyu-chan?"
"Mmm, kero." Tsuyu of course had to agree, her eyes shut jubilantly. Tsuyu thought Pikachu was cute in everything it did-he was like the sweetest jelly that was ever created. The Pokémon was vibrant like jelly, he was jiggly like one, and above all, he was beyond the sugariest thing in existence. Tsuyu couldn't help the blush rushing to her cheeks at the delightfulness, as she opened her eyes to call out to the mouse. "Pikachu-chan. Sorry about earlier, I must've surprised you at the Cavalry battle." Pikachu peered at the frog-girl, before beamingly squealing a reply, still clutching a half-eaten berry in its paws.
"Pi, Pika!" It wasn't certain, but Tsuyu had a feeling Pikachu was saying it's okay, all while squeaking its apology on electrifying her. Tsuyu's grin couldn't have grown any wider. Pikachu's beaming face was just too pure, Mina was already scrambling for her phone to capture it.
Meanwhile, Uraraka's defense is at the brick of crumbling as Pikachu would stare up at her eagerly, eyes sparking with want, as she forced herself to keep calm. You told her to at least watch him eat a few berries, so maybe she can give it now?
No, no, just a little longer. Uraraka's heart was taking a painful toll at hoarding the sweet snacks, but she'll hold on for your sake! Ochaco steel your heart longer!
As Pikachu went back to rummage his bowl, smiling towards a cheery Mina reaching out to give an affectional boop his nose, he somehow felt the two disdainful stares on his back fur. Pikachu glanced around with wide-eyes, looking for the perpetrator as Uraraka curiously asks upon noticing its sudden twitchiness. "Pikachu, are you okay?" Pikachu nodded at her slowly, before looking around again.
Finding the perpetrator was enough to make the Pikachu snort, roll its eyes, and turn its tail their way. Kaminari and Mineta were staring jealously from their eating spots, their expression showing desperation that made Pikachu almost want to chortle. But he decided to ignore as he welcomed the attention Hagakure began showering it. The annoyed glares grew intense.
Before Pikachu could make its move, perhaps to glower back at the duo, Iida arrived with both Shoji and Koda behind him. The stern class president held his tray of food stiffly, squarely might be a better word, as he called out to the girls. "Everyone, have you eaten?"
"Oh, Iida-kun! And Shoji-kun and Koda-kun!" Uraraka voiced, turning her attention to the arriving boys. The rest of the girls turned their attention away from Pikachu briefly to greet the trio, as Mina invited cheerily. "Come sit with us!" She ushered them to the empty seats as Hagakure spoke up with a sleeve raised in the air. "We're waiting for Yaoyorozu-chan and Jiro-chan too, so pull out more chairs!"
Iida welcomed the invitation, sitting squarely on his seat. Shoji and Koda did the same and went to eat right away. Pikachu perked as Iida abruptly cleared his throat, seemingly gazing at the mouse seriously. The mouse realized that Iida was calling for its attention.
Iida was a stern stiff-looking person that Pikachu didn't necessarily mind nor care too much about. He seemed like a pretty swell human nonetheless, as Iida fixed his glasses. "It's Pikachu-kun, am I correct? I...don't think we have introduced ourselves." Iida offered his right-hand to Pikachu, who blinked down at it. "My name is Iida Tenya, and I would like to think I'm good friends with (Last)-san. I hope we can get along."
"..." Everyone at the table just stared for a moment, including Pikachu.
Uraraka was the first to comment, spitting out her cold ocha drink in small laughter. "So stiff!"
The electric yellow mouse eyed the firm hand handed out to him, before slowly observing at the owner of the hand. Iida was not bothered by Uraraka's comment and merely waited patiently for the mouse to take up his offer, an unwavering stare piercing the mouse. Deciding to be friendly, Pikachu raised his right paw, as Iida instinctively wrapped his much bigger one around it, and shook it gently. Pikachu gave a cute eye smile. "Pi'pi Chuu chu kachu!"
Iida expression burst in elatedness, and Uraraka couldn't help but let out another chortle. Iida doesn't speak Pikanese, but he's assuming it's a positive response back. "Yes, it's very much nice to meet you Pikachu-kun!" Iida said as Uraraka began patting his back.
"Iida-kun, did you want to introduce yourself to Pikachu from before?" Uraraka questioned, as the rest of the girls leaned forward curiously.
"Yes, I just never found the time too. I felt we could not talk-" Talk? Everyone thought besides Iida, who continued. "-easily with each other unless I do so."
"Awww~ Didn't think you were so worried about not introducing yourself, class president!" Hagakure happily concluded as Iida started looking a tad embarrassed. Tsuyu nodded alongside her. "Iida-chan is the type to worry about stuff like this I suppose, kero."
"Right." Iida fumbled, clearing his throat for the second time, before realizing an unusual situation. He took in his surroundings slowly, pushing his glasses up. "But where is (Last)-san? I wanted to congratulate her on her last win but haven't gotten the chance too."
Mina voiced in, leaning over the table to call out. "I think she went to the Nurse's office; she hasn't gone back?"
"She said she would only take a while, so I'm not too sure." Uraraka blinked, tilting her head curiously.
Shoji finally spoke up after swallowing a spoonful of his food, peering over at his peers. "I think I saw her head off to the school's entrance." Shoji's mask slightly muffled Shoji's explanation. Actually, Shoji's been eating this whole time but the group didn't even notice as his lower-face was covered again- the mystery of his lower-face still ever so present. "Koda and I met her before we went here." Koda nodded to affirm, as Pikachu let out a small approved squeak, pointing at Shoji.
"Ah-is that the reason?" Hagakure questioned, as Pikachu simply nodded a couple of times. He knew you went to check on Dragonite and the others outside, so he wasn't too worried. He only hoped your hand was already healed. But then Iida shoots up from his seat, looking rigid.
"But that means-!" Everyone gazed up at him in confusion. "The only thing she has eaten today was a single onigiri! This won't do, she must keep herself in proper shape if she's going to battle!" Iida was abruptly eating away in big spoons, which was a little alarming to see, before getting up to put away the tray. "I must call her to the cafeteria right now!"
"H-Huh? Where are you going Iida-kun?" Uraraka blurted out hesitantly, as Iida glance back fixedly. He was a man on a mission. The mission...to bring you food-apparently. "I'm going to the entrance to find her! We'll be back!" And just like that, Iida disappeared, leaving a cloud of dust behind as he sped off.
"Ah, and there he goes!" Mina jests, picking up a piece of fermented natto to eat. She stuck the tip of the chopsticks in her mouth, humming in thought with a grin. "Our class President sure is one of a kind."
"That's Iida-kun for you!" Hagakure giggled, as Shoji and Koda finished up their lunches. The two made a quick leave as the girls cheerfully waved goodbye, wondering when Jiro and Momo would arrive. While the girls converse laxly, our lovely protagonist Pokémon, Pikachu, was munching on a sweet raspberry contently, minding his own business until his long ears caught a certain noise.
"-I mean! whether you believe it or not is up to you, but we were asked by Aizawa-sensei to remind you since you might've forgotten." Yikes, it's the sticky balls, Pikachu nose scrunched up.
It took everything Pikachu got to simply gander at the idiot duo, who followed a slightly surprised Yaoyorozu and an uncomfortable Jiro carrying their lunch trays. The group of girls on the table peered over in curiosity, as Uraraka piped up inquiringly.
"Jiro-chan, Yaoyorozu-chan, what's going on?" The two girls who finally made it to the table looked uncertain, as Yaoyorozu, the vice class representative, took it as an initiative to answer, onyx-colored eyes gleaming doubtfully.
"Mineta-kun and Kaminari-kun told us that all the girls from each class will be doing a cheer." Jiro still looked embarrassed, her cheeks lit up in red. Yaoyorozu glanced at the two males, who have solemnly nodded as if to assure their truthfulness. "Yet I haven't heard of such an event before..."
"A cheer?! Whoa, that sounds fun~!" Hagakure professes eagerly. The invisible girl seemed to be thrilled with the news, as she eagerly points to the foreign cheerleaders, who somehow emitted a very different vibe than Japan was used to, with the smallest of curiosity brimming in her voice. "Do we wear the cheer outfit too?!"
"Yeah, that's right!" Kaminari was thankful for Hagakure's excitement, able to try to coax the girls even more. Pikachu glared at the appearance of his human-counterpart. "It all just for fun, as Aizawa-sensei said. Y'know, to cheer the stadium up! I heard Class D's already preparing."
"Hmm, well I guess we should start preparing now..." Uraraka propounds, as Mineta and Kaminari did their synchronized nods almost a little too fervently. The girls seemed to be actually considering the cheer, no speculations placed on the square table when Knight Pikachu spoke up.
"Pika-chu Pika." Pikachu deadpanned. He glared at the two who flinched at the dirty look, as Mina blinked down at the mouse. "Eh-What's wrong Pikachu?"
If Pikachu was able to translate his words into proper Japanese where the girls could understand, then they'd understand in a heartbeat. 'Sounds kinda sus.' Yes, that's what he thought. If it was anyone else he'd give it a second thought, but these two just spoke trouble, and Pikachu was going to do his best to get the girls to listen.
Pikachu hopped towards the closest to him, who happened to be a quiet Tsuyu, who blinked its wide eyes at the mouse grasping on her sleeves, all while shaking his head vigorously. Pikachu squeaks of disapproval made the girls worry.
"Are you okay?" Uraraka cooed, but Pikachu continued his disfavoring shake.
"Still hungry?" Even more vigorous disapproval.
"Do you want to go?" No!
"Pikachu-chan." Tsuyu called with a hint of concern. "Is this about the cheer? Do you not want us to do it?"
Pikachu nodded ecstatically, smiling widely to prove a point. It made all the girls pause, after all a member of the council has spoken. Jiro quickly decided to input her feelings, for she really didn't want to go out wearing a cheer outfit-the humiliation would be too much. "I guess we don't need to do it, right?"
'Yes! Don't do it!' Pikachu thought, feeling his neck strain from all the objection he was doing as Kaminari and Mineta began panicking.
"Kaminari-!" Mineta seethed, being extra quiet. "What are we going to do-!?"
"J-Just leave it to me-!" Kaminari replied quickly, before rushing towards the table and smiling at the girls, who were now a bit doubtful. "Uh H-Hey, you should've just said so, Pikachu...!" The electric boy randomly called out, throwing a finger gun while he was it. The action befuddled the girls, as the electric mouse turned to him, crossing its arms disinterestedly.
Kaminari watched nervously as Yaoyorozu sent him a stare. "What do you mean by that?"
He flinched, stammering wordlessly as he tried to find the right comeback. Pikachu glowered at him for a moment but seemed to get prideful at the lack of words coming out of Kaminari's mouth. Man, why was Kaminari so hated by an electric mouse, even he doesn't know. He's been one-upped by the little monster in the cavalry games so many times, he lost count! He wasn't one to be so caught up in this, after all, Pikachu was a sweet mouse that simply cares for you very much, and he can't fault that when he's gotten to know you. But things were getting personal when breathing seems to earn him a disgusted sneer!
"Uh...well, y'know," Kaminari chuckles, hoping he could find some inspiration from his surroundings, only to go with the flow when he caught sight of the American cheerleaders. "Yeah y'know! Uh, Pikachu should've just said..." He peered at the outfit once more, enlightened. The smile growing in his lips budding cockily. "That he wanted to join in the fun-!"
"Pika!?" Pikachu gawped at the sudden answer, blinking at the male's word in disbelief. He was so thunderstruck at the electrification boy's response that he was too late in trying to diffuse the thought when Kaminari continued, picking up where he left stridently. "Pikachu just wanted to help you guys out in the cheer too, I mean think of how cute~ he would look in a cheerleader outfit too!"
"Is that true Pikachu? Cause that would be so adorable!" Mina agreed, already imagining the cute ensemble as Pikachu sweated, this time the one unable to answer.
"Yeah-we'll do a little cheer! We'll even get you some pom-poms to go with!" Hagakure was already in. "There's no way we wouldn't win with you on our side!"
"I can make some outfits Pikachu-san's size right away too-!" Yaoyorozu looked particularly excited, but that only left Pikachu even more dumbstruck. He looked at each girls' faces, all the vision of anticipation. And Pikachu knew right at that moment as he stared at that fake grin Kaminari gave him.
That this was war.
The fire burning in Pikachu's eyes was put out, as the girls all coddled him to follow them to the changing area, leaving him no room to talk or complain anymore as he stared at the duo perverts with vengeance. He will get back at them!
In the end, Pikachu didn't get to have his sweet treats just yet, as Kaminari and Mineta sighed in relief at their mission success. Kaminari sagged onto the table, looking downright amazed. "I can't believe that worked."
"Kaminari..." Mineta pulled Kaminari back from his stupefied contemplation. The grape-head gave a thumbs up, his eyes spoke the truth of his intention. "Good job."
"That's right!" Kaminari was quick to accept to compliment, grinning widely. At least he was able to get back at the mouse just a little. It was just a harmless prank after all, so what harm could it really pull off? Kaminari thought foolishly.
Ah-but he just realized. Kaminari added curiously. "Hey, how about (Last)-chan?" For some reason, Kaminari sort of felt demure at the thought. He didn't think about you exactly when he followed Mineta's schemes, as suddenly the thought of you in a cheerleading outfit made him grow warm. All the girls would look great in a cheerleading outfit, no questions asked! But when it came to you...there was a slight difference.
Huh...Kaminari grew weirded out by his thoughts as Mineta waved him off. "It's cool, I'm sure the others will tell her, so don't worry." Kaminari decided to follow his comrade's advice, throwing the thought out to the window. The duo went back to their tasks, gingerly anticipating what would happen next.
Meowth watches what had unfolded with a raised brow, not quite sure what happened as the two merrily made their way away. Meowth picked its ears with his finger laxly, feeling disgruntled at the odd scene. "Jeez, what was that about...?"
"Uh-um..." Midoriya had perked from his Katsudon, eyeing where the cat was eyeing. Midoriya didn't see anything that stuck out, but he asked curiously anyways. "Did something happened?"
"Nah, nothing that you need to know..." Meowth replied nonchalantly, waving his paw in dismissal. "Don't worry." He picked on the fish Midoriya 'took' for him. Bought was more appropriate.
When Midoriya and Meowth arrived at the canteen, Midoriya had wanted to go to where his friends were sitting and enjoy his lunch with them. But Meowth insisted that if he wanted to talk to him, then they would sit somewhere secluded. The cat explaining about 'being too famous that he would be crowded with people' and 'not wanting to disrupt everyone's peaceful lunch'. The green-haired boy decided to amuse the cat's antics, as he got tons of more information off of the cat's ability and strength that the nerdy boy cherished.
"Oh okay, anyway." Midoriya glanced at his notebook again, looking at the cat with sparkles. "Do you somehow just learn a language in a snap? Or does language just come to you naturally once you hear them?" Meowth paused his eating.
"...Listen twerp. I only speak Japanese, and maybe a bit of some English swear words. I ain't no god."
Midoriya and Meowth had a silent stare-down, why they were staring down at each other? They had no idea, but Midoriya was quick to give a silent. "Oh." Before scanning his notebook to swipe a sentence with his pencil. "Alright, question number 32/167 was neither answers..."
Meowth let out a low grumble. This was going to be a long lunch.
『 Chapter Thirty-Three 』
Somehow, the Midnight mask on your face wasn't as constricting as you expected. You could actually see quite well out of them, as you turn your head around to test it out. Nonetheless, you paid close attention to your companion, Tetsutetsu, who insisted on the Vlad King mask. To pay homage or not, you weren't sure as Komala nodded off with Aizawa-sensei's face. Seems accurate enough.
"Alright!" Tetsutetsu proclaimed, being loud enough to garner attention. Yes, the mask was a good idea, you decided rather quickly after. "Where do we look first?"
"Hmm..." You replied unsurely, trying to locate the 'Pokémon'. "Well, since we had to hide, it could've already left the area." You mused, pushing Komala closer to Tetsutetsu's head warily-the little Pokémon much more content, but still awaiting its log. "The entrance is still far off, so it wouldn't have left school grounds, which means-,"
"THIEF!"
You simultaneously made eye-contact with Tetsutetsu. "That way-!"
"YOSH! Here we go!" Tetsutetsu ran off quickly, as you swiftly tried to keep up. You were still worried about Komala accidentally releasing his tight-hold on Tetsutetsu's head, but you were quickly reassured as the iron-boy kept a hand on its back safely. It made you smile, seeing the protective stance.
As you made it into a small group of people loitering and uneasily watching the thief, you two made yourself known.
"Her, there she is!" You pointed at the woman, her large white hat still sticking out as she carried her stolen good protectively. The thief barely sent a look back, as she took off. You and Tetsutetsu quickly kept up. For the most part, you were surprised you hadn't come across any of the pros and your Pokémon patrolling, who you guessed were patrolling other areas.
As you continued on your chase, for some reason, you lost her. It was like she disappeared out of thin air once the two of you made it into another crowd, waiting for some drinks that have been trending lately. The crowd had no idea that a thief was maneuvering its way around the mass for the fact that it was far off from where the imposter stole. And now the criminal was hidden from sight. You skidded at the edge of the crowd with Tetsutetsu, who squinted its eyes through the mask as if it'll help find the stealer.
"She's gone!" He pronounced, as you continued to eye at every person's face. Just one look and you would know it. You continued scanning when Tetsutetsu shouted. "Wait, that's her-!" You felt a warm hand wrapped on your forearm, and out of nowhere, you were pulled into the crowd with Tetsutetsu leading the way.
"Hey-!" You yelped, as Tetsutetsu maneuvered his way, bulldozed wouldn't be a far word, as you shrivel up to apologize to the visibly confused and angered people the iron-boy had unintentionally bumped into. You were finally released when you saw the same white floppy hat, as the 'lady' stood near a booth. You were astonished that Tetsutetsu found her so quickly.
But you frowned, somehow feeling uneasy.
Once Tetsutetsu was about to give her a piece of his mind, you stopped him. "Wait a second Tetsutetsu-san."
The Vlad-king-faced boy didn't look assured but listened nonetheless as you watch her back carefully. The hat girl turned to talk to her friend, who came up from behind, as you clearly saw her eyes. They were normal, unlike the dotted eyes you saw vividly as she chatted friendly to her companion.
Your shoulders slumped, "That's not her."
"Wait, really? she wasn't it!?" Tetsutetsu voiced a little too loudly, grabbing both of the strangers, the surrounding crowd, and your attention. "She looks just like her!"
"No time, we got to go!" You hastily rushed towards him, pulling his arm to now drag him away from the crowd. Tetsutetsu appeared hesitant, glancing at the lady several times before letting you pull him away. "She looks exactly like it, are you sure it isn't?"
"Trust me, just one look at her face I knew." You answered, your eyes briefly skimming your surroundings again. "Ditto is a transform Pokémon. If my speculation is right about it being a Ditto, then he might've changed form." You explained as best as you can. "Looks like it changed tactics from running off to hiding within the masses. It could be anyone here..." You paused, "Actually anything here."
"Then, does it have something that we can recognize to find it?"
"For one, their eyes. They're different from our eyes, their dotted, and that's about it. If you see anyone eyes like that, it might be it." You described, before thinking of another difference you can add. "It can also only copy things exactly once it sees them. If it copies something by memory, it might get a detail wrong." Tetsutetsu after hearing your spiel replied as if the answer is obvious.
"Then we'll just have to find the double in the crowd with dotted eyes! It's that simple!"
"No, it isn't!" You felt slightly tired.
"Tetsutetsu-kun, (Last)-chan?"
"Kendo/Kendo-san!" You both turned to the class B student president, who was eyeing the cutely crafted keychains with favorite pro-heroes all around. She was accompanied by her classmate, Reiko, who dully stared at you both, as the ginger raised a brow, quirking her lips up in amusement.
For some reason, you both bumped into Kendo, who happened to look weirdly at both of your arriving states. After all, this isn't something someone would see every day, as for starters, the masks were a weird touch to wear. Kendo had only recognized you both from hearing your voices, before getting more confused when she heard you both arguing about something. She sent a raised brow at your hand grasp on his arm, before focusing on his classmate. "Did you do something Tetsutetsu-kun?"
"Wha-?! No, I didn't do anything! Me and (Last) are going to catch a thief." Komala let out a gurgle. "And get this guy's log!"
Kendo looked to be still processing Tetsutetsu's words, as her interested smile fell a bit when she realizes what was being said. You wanted to send Tetsutetsu a dumbfounded look but your Midnight masked concealed it. "When we get our hands on that Pokémon, (last) will deal with them right?!" He diverted his words to you, as you drew back at the sudden call out.
Kendo now looked like she had finally processed everything, walking forward to stop you both.
"Wait a second, Tetsutetsu-kun, (Last)-!"
"Let's go, we got to hurry!" Cutting in Kendo's word, once again you were being dragged off by the iron-head who rushed past a stupefied Kendo and dazed-looking Reiko. You wanted to butt in, but you knew it was a gonna be a sad attempt in stopping the stubborn mule, so you opted to focus on getting that 'Ditto'. Tetsutetsu hastens, Vlad King's face staring at you. "So, where do we look first?"
"I don't know, there's just too many people." You inputted, glanced around at the premises - this time following behind him easily. You eyed the people thoughtfully, trying to see something odd as maybe something would stick out as you two weaved your way into the bustling crowd. You could still hear Kendo call out to you both when Tetsutetsu abruptly dragged you in a different direction.
"That one, he's right there!"
"Wha-?" You fumbled, a sense of deja vu hitting you. Didn't this happen just before? "How are you sure?" You gazed at him unconvincingly as he clutched your hand tightly.
"His eyes!" Tetsutetsu implored, his voice rough as he pressed. "You said he had those 'eyes', I think I got what you mean!" You didn't say anything to that as he dragged you with him. You followed behind as the iron-quirked boy seemed to smirk under his mask. "Alright! Watch me catch this!"
Upon arriving at this supposed 'area', Tetsutetsu marched right up to a man, sitting on a bench all lonesome-like. It was pretty strange, as you eyed carefully when you noticed the man's face. It really was it! The same dotted eyes and smile. He was looking at the sky pensively.
Tetsutetsu took charge. "OI!" The man jumped, peering up only to blink a bit at the masked teenager in front of him. "You're that Po-!"
"Ahem!" You interrupted firmly.
"ER-! THIEF, hand over back what you stole bastard!"
The man's face twisted, the smile he had turned upside down as he looked towards 'Vlad King' in confusion. "W-What are you talking about?" His voice sounded meek, eyes drifting to the weird 'Eraserhead' faced creature, who only and specifically emitted snores. "A-And what's that on your head...?"
Your eyes widened. No, this can't be right? You were about to pull on Tetsutetsu to garner his attention away, but for some reason, Tetsutetsu was sure of his verdict and wasn't going to back down any time.
"Don't lie!" Tetsutetsu pointed an offending finger at the frightened man's chest. "Your whole existence might be a lie, but your expression doesn't!"
You gawped, borderline speechless as the stranger somehow looked like his pride got knocked down like a bunch of bowling pins on a striking streak. The man got agitated, "I really have no idea what you're saying kid, perhaps you should calm down!"
Tetsutetsu grew irritated at the persistent plead. "Come on, we know your lying! Just hand it over."
"I'm serious, I have no idea what you're saying."
"Uh-Tetsutetsu-san, we should-," You attempted to interject when the stranger interrupted with a small distinct of uneasiness in his tone.
"You're both students aren't you?" The man's dotted eyes scrutinized you two. There was still a nervous edge in his tone, but in a sudden burst, he got bold. "You really shouldn't be doing this, it's not very heroic."
"Not very Heroic?!" Tetsutetsu was beginning to lose his patience. "Not being Heroic is stealing. I know you're a creature, but you're crossing the line!"
"I seriously do not know what you're saying." The person feigned innocent, which he was, but Tetsutetsu just about had it, in fact, a nerve was probably struck as he rolled up his sleeves up irately. His expression may be concealed, but the anger emitting from the class B student wasn't. The Vlad King's mask might have made it worse.
"Alright, you asked for it-!"
Not knowing what to do anymore, you panicked. You had to practically take a hold of his raised arm, already steeling himself, and press it close to yourself. "Stop Tetsutetsu!" You had to bite the inside of your cheek to not panic too badly as Tetsutetsu was a little too riled to pay attention.
"Sh-Should I call security...?"
You had to pull Tetsutetsu back a bit when he tried to do the same with his free arm, as Tetsutetsu called out. "Lemme at him!" Komala had done nothing in this span of complete chaos, as you struggled to get a pissed off Tetsutetsu from hitting an innocent man. "Tetsutetsu stop!"
"Oh my-Tetsutetsu-kun, what are you doing?!" Praise Arceus, the Pokémon god who created the universe, as Kendo, who chased after you both came just in time to help. She looked astounded as she captured Tetsutetsu's other arm while you called out to hopefully calm him. "He's a normal guy!"
"No, he ain't! That's the face of a liar!" The man's face twisted even more into agony.
"Tetsutetsu-kun!" Kendo hissed, as both you and Kendo teamed up to get an infuriated iron-quirked boy away. The pair of you apologized swiftly at the hurt man, who awkwardly wave it off. As the three of you got farther, Kendo began berating, brows furrowing. "What was that, Tetsutetsu-kun? you can't just attack someone out of nowhere. You could get in trouble!"
The three of you made it into a lone corner, where no one seemed to head into. It was quiet, and you were sure no one would try to enter here. You felt your soul practically leaving your body as Tetsutetsu didn't back down.
"That's what the mask is for Kendo!"
"That doesn't change anything!"
"I'm sure it's the Pokémon...! It has the eyes-!"
"Tetsutetsu-san, I forgot to tell you!" you cut into their banter. "Pokémon, other than Meowth, do not talk." There was a tense quietness of Tetsutetsu seemingly processing this information that you just said. Kendo made a face that said, 'that's kinda obvious...'
You weren't sure what was going on behind that hero mask of Tetsutetsu, but he visibly froze, stopping mid-point.
"Oh."
"Tetsutetsu-kun...that's-," Kendo spared the embarrassed male a slightly sympathetic gaze. She shook her head, deciding to not press any longer to focus on other things like what's happening right now. She looked at you curiously. "Never mind, what is this about a Pokémon?"
With Kendo eyeing both you and Tetsutetsu, you had no choice but to yield and clarify what's been going on. The class 1-B Class President shifted her gaze to her classmate, who answered albeit begrudgingly.
"A thief was running off, and (Last) has a sneaking suspicion it might be a Pokémon!" Tetsutetsu explained robustly, pulling up his mask as if to take a breather. His slanted eyes peered at the plaza briefly, "It's been causing trouble left and right! That's why we gotta catch it and bring it justice!" He practically yelled.
Komala suddenly let out a growl, an upset one. Tetsutetsu turned soft suddenly, "Oh yeah, and get this guy's log." The iron-quirked boy gently took off the Aizawa mask from the slightly grumbling Komala. "We'll get it back! here you go bud."
Kendo raised a brow at Tetsutetsu's calmer tone before her eyes gleamed in recognition at the blue koala clutching his head. She wanted to point it out but paused to listen to more of the story, giving you an awaiting look. You quickly followed up.
"Just as Tetsutetsu-san said, I think that a Pokémon is causing some mischief, and I need to make sure it won't get caught or it might stir up trouble and change the Pokémon's already not-so-great reputation. Especially when things are going so well right now." You explained, hoping she would accept the very little descriptive clarification.
A part of you felt bad, knowing that for the most part, Kendo had kept the Pokémon a secret for a very long time, even before the Pokémon existence were confirmed. You hadn't even had the time to explain things thoroughly. But right now, you needed her cooperation. You looked at her pleadingly. "Kendo-san...I know I seemed to ask this a lot, but please keep it secret."
Kendo kept a stern front for a moment, and you wondered what went into her head when her expression softens. "...I've kept your secret even before we even knew each other, what's stopping me now?" You were surprised at her answer, as the ginger smiled brightly.
You can't stop the smile on your lips from growing, as you hugged her tightly, causing her to stumble back. "Gosh, thank you, thank you!" You voiced. "I'm really lucky to have you with me."
Kendo laughed it off, wrapping her arms around you comfortingly. "What are you talking about? I already understand how important this is." You pulled back a bit, but neither of you have released each other's hold. Tetsutetsu looked like the third wheel, and frankly, he is at this point. Well, at least he has Komala, who snored in response. Kendo gleamed. "You'll need help! Let me help you with this."
"That's what I'm doing already!" Tetsutetsu interjected.
"...More help!" Kendo chuckled awkwardly. "I mean, from what I saw, you almost hit a completely innocent man Tetsutetsu-kun."
"I-I wasn't going to hit him!" Ouch! Tetsutetsu looked hurt at the lighthearted, not really, attack. You felt a little relieved at the new comrade you acquired, Tetsutetsu is headstrong, and you meant that in a good way. But he can be a bit bullheaded, courtesy from all the events before. Kendo would be a great help. Meanwhile, Kendo pulled her attention back to the snoozing Komala, as she leaned over towards you to question about it. "Hey, is that-?"
You looked at where she was looking, before realizing. "That's right, you met before." You went to stand beside Tetsutetsu, who stood perfectly still, as you gently ruffled the snoring creature's head. "This is Komala, I'm sure you recognize him from-,"
"That time, when you were on my lawn." Kendo finished, chuckling a bit at the memory. You felt almost sheepish as she explained that part, even though she didn't mean it in a bad way. "So how did this happen?" She gestured to Tetsutetsu and Komala. "I'm surprised you're taking this in so nicely Tetsutetsu-kun, looks like you found a friend."
Tetsutetsu raised his eyes seriously, as Komala began chewing on his hair a bit. "No, this is my bro now."
Kendo only looked more confused before you whispered. "Long story short, Komala's log got stolen by said thief, and he's been upset about it. So he went with an alternative which happened to be Tetsutetsu-san's said." Kendo made a small noise of acknowledgment, chuckling at the answer, before you interrupted, staring out an area. "But more importantly, I think I have a lead on where the Pokémon is."
This got both of the duo's attention, a serious tone wafting out of all of you.
"How are you so sure?" Kendo replied slowly.
"Well, because..."
You pointed a finger to something. The rest of the crew matched their gaze to where you pointed, and they stood in disbelief as they eyed a shifty elderly man, looking at his surroundings. He had the same beady eyes you were talking about, But deciding not to make the same mistake as Tetsutetsu, you watched as the elder man watched a little girl bounce away. It looked like just a creepy old man watching, but when he suddenly shined in white light and turned shorter. You knew you were right, as the exact same little girl replaced the elder.
'It's wary of showing its real form.' You took notice of the abundant amount of items it picked up after hiding it behind a large trash can. The strange little girl let out a strange laugh, a gurgled one as it clutched her items tightly. 'I might not have to be too worried if that's the case, so battling in the open might be okay...'
"T-That's..." Kendo added unsurely.
"That's it!" Tetsutetsu jerked, voicing loudly. That got the attention of the 'little girl' who jerked her head in realization that her form was compromised. In a fit, the little girl jerked her head to the front stiffly, before running off with the stolen goods. "That way!"
You and Kendo nodded, as the three of you followed the girl who went to another empty area of greenery. UA is so large, they just have their tiny forests just lying around, you felt both salty and relieved; salty that this would make finding the Pokémon harder, but relieved that it makes it easy to hide the Pokémon at the same time.
"There's no one here." Kendo voiced, scoping the area preparedly. As a hero in training, Kendo was trained to prepare for any sudden movement. You stepped on clean cut trimmed grass as you eyed the trees.
"...It could still be here." You inputted. "The Pokémon, Ditto, can transform into pretty much anything. That includes inanimate objects." You peered closely at everything that catches your eyes.
"Is that so?" Both Kendo and Tetsutetsu began following your moves, the iron-quirked boy murmuring lightly to his companion on his back-head. As you sometimes eavesdropped at their mindless one-sided chatter, you find yourself giggling before righting yourself back.
"Ah-This must be it!" You were surprised at Tetsutetsu grasped up a rock, it was a pretty big rock, as he shook it. "See, look at the eyes it has right here-!"
"Tetsutetsu...that's just dirt spots." Kendo voiced, making Tetsutetsu begrudgingly agree and release the rock heavily. You wanted to release a small laugh but held it in for the iron-quirked male's sake.
"This isn't going to work." At this point, lunch would be over and the event would continue. You need to find the Ditto quickly. Remembering all the Pokedex entries you read of Ditto, there was one weakness you remembered that might give you a fighting chance. It is-
Additional Ditto Entry:
Its transformation ability is perfect. However, if made to laugh, it can't maintain its disguise.
-Tickling! That's right!
"That's really all it takes?" Kendo questions, after you explained. Kendo can't help be a little skeptical, but you reassured lightly, already crouched down to stare at anything that might be it.
"Just think of it this way." You gently scratched up a branch on the ground. "If you're ticklish, wouldn't you have a hard time fighting battles?" When there was no reaction, the stick as unmovable as it's expected to be, you moved to the hydrangea flowerbeds with careful eyes.
With your explanation, everyone got to work. Kendo mainly focused on things that were of higher reach, checking the cracks on the tree bark before reaching over to lightly brush her fingers over them. Tetsutetsu decided to focus on things that were mainly on the ground, the most obvious choice, while you decided to check through disregarded items. If anyone so much as eyed you three, you knew that this was quite a sight to see.
Komala held tightly to his ride, as per usual, unreactive to what's going on. But Komala was getting serious, it wanted its log back. Tetsutetsu's head was fine, but its log was comfier. Tetsutetsu noticed this as a serious aura wavered out of Komala. "Getting fired up huh bro?"
Tetsutetsu continued his search, hoping to find it soon and comfort his new brethren. As he kept on searching, all of a sudden, Komala twitched as the iron-head brushed past a pile of tiny rocks. Tetsutetsu felt it and paused where his hand passed over mindlessly. His face twisted to confusion at the reaction, before moving his hand around like it was a metal detector.
Tetsutetsu wasn't going to pass over this earlier, but these pebbles were used as landscape, a practical décor to the already well-groomed greenery. There were so many, there was no way Tetsutetsu was going to tickle each one. But when Komala twitched once more when he passed by a large rock, the one that stuck out the most, Tetsutetsu got suspicious.
"Hmm, this is one bro?" He touched the stone, not thinking much as he begun lightly tickling it. That was when it happened, as Tetsutetsu eyes widen in incredulity upon the stone sudden jerk of movement. It was only a twitched at first, before it began fully moving around as if lulled to turn into liquid, swishing uncontrollably. Tetsutetsu pulled his hand back abruptly, but the stone didn't stop moving, and you noticed when you heard.
A held-back watery laugh, unable to stop itself.
"That's it!" You turned, before the Ditto fully turned into itself, a small purple blob-like creature with two dotted eyes. It still had a smile as it moved like a jiggly jelly being flickered. So the Pokémon finally revealed itself, its tiny form merely watching you and the class B student densely, gurgling a word. You put an arm forward and called out, "Komala, let's go!"
Komala acted fast, determined to get his belonging back. He jumped off of Tetsutetsu's shoulder, slightly alarming the usually preoccupied brazen student, as Komala did a somersault to land on the ground in front of the Ditto. Both Kendo and Tetsutetsu looked with wide eyes and gaping mouths at the Pokémon sudden liveliness.
Komala sat patiently, still perhaps awkward without its log, as the Ditto got ready to battle too. It had looked uneasy when Komala got ready to battle, looking like it was prepared to slink off to only be constantly blocked by Komala who rolled its way to block it. Ditto had no choice but to get into its battle stance.
"You're going to battle it?" Kendo drew nearer, her teal eyes never moving away from the upcoming battle. You kept a close eye at the Pokémon, taking a stern stance. Kendo continued. "I can try to capture it while it's distracted."
"It'll be quick!" Tetsutetsu cracked his fists readily, prepared to capture it.
"Ko-mala," Komala quietly murmured, catching everyone slightly off guard. It shook its head lightly, but albeit firmly, causing both Kendo and Tetsutetsu to stop.
"We can't let it escape at this point." You interrupted, feeling the need to speak up for the Koala monster. "This Ditto seems to be tough, it looks like it won't back down even when captured. As much as you could, I think this is a better option-besides," You shifted your gaze to your Pokémon, "Komala looks like he wants to do it."
There was a small silence as the duo contemplated your words. It wasn't long until both Tetsutetsu and Kendo quickly decided to back down, giving brief nods of understanding. You smiled at them thankfully, before determining to up Komala defenses with a defense curl move.
As Komala ups his defenses, the group watched as Ditto began morphing its body into another. As the transformation began, you were greeted with the sight of another Komala, practically in the exact copy of the bluish-greyish creature, eyes shut tight in mimic sleep.
Just like the original Komala of yours, Ditto Komala didn't have a log with him. The imposter simply sat all while snoozing, waiting for his enemy's next move as your Komala let out a grunt for your direction. You decided to go for a full-on-attack, as Komala when for a hit. A full sucker punch that had the Ditto Komala reeling back in pain, and Komala jumped back awaiting the next.
"Nice going!" Tetsutetsu cheered, he was such a commendable guy.
That's when the Ditto did something surprising. Before going for its attack, it began laying on the ground, seemingly about to attempt a roll out move when it rolled away into a bush behind it. You and the rest were left dumbfounded as the creature seemed to stay hidden in the wide bushes, its body completely obstructed from anyone's view when it came back. Back with an item in hand.
"That's-!" You gaped once you recognize the familiar well-loved chunk of wood clutched into the hands of the imitating Pokémon, the same contours and slightly busted sides so recognizable that you knew it was true before confirming it with Komala. Komala looked upset, the Pokémon's usually droopy yet comfortable expression morphing to one of sadness, the koala monster eyebrows scrunching miserably as it let out a sad coo. You knew Komala knew of its logs vicinity right when the Ditto slightly pounded it on the ground.
Before you could dwell on the prospects of the item in the Ditto hands, Ditto Komala goes for a harsh attack, as you watch it slam down its body down at the upset Komala, using the log as a booster. You called out to your own Komala, who grunted back a reply in pain. Things weren't looking so good, especially with a high attack move of Wood Hammer coming from the Ditto, who pulled away in a tinge of pain too.
Kendo and Tetsutetsu flinched, as Komala blearily picked itself up. Only to be attacked again by a rapid spin, the Ditto Komala spinning uncontrollably to slam the Komala back down.
The battle began for a short while, but it already felt like it was going to end. You called out to your little companion, "Komala!" The pocket monster wallowing in sadness, hands slumped beside it instead of around its pillow, turned his head slowly to you. You had no idea if he could see you, but you beamed anyway, cheering on. "Let's get your log back!"
Komala sat with its head turned to you, but for some reason, you felt like it truly heard your words. It always seemed that Komala never really listened to you, off in his grand dreamland adventure, but the truth was that Komala might've been hearing your words all this time. It warmed you as you heard Komala let out a small murmur, before his sad expression dithered angrily, face scrunched to showcase that.
"Alright!" You started, "Roll out!"
In more vigor than you had ever seen, Komala rolled towards the rogue Komala, letting out a battle cry you never heard from it, albeit softer sounding than the other Pokémon battle cries, and rammed its rolled body into the enemy. Ditto cringed back, about to attempt its attack next when Komala continued to crash into the Ditto Komala.
Your Komala left no room for the other party to escape nor retaliate as Komala continue to box it in with its rolled body. Tetsutetsu cheered, "Alright bud! Beat it!" You were impressed as Komala was able to keep a 4 streak hit before the Ditto forced it away. Komala got into its battle stance again, still slumbering all the way, but you could feel the determination oozing out of him. And there's no way anyone could overpass that.
The Ditto Komala looked to be beginning to feel threatened, its earlier confident visage was slowly crumbling as it hesitantly jumped up to slam down the log once more at your Pokémon. The hesitation though was caught, and Komala was able to roll away as the cherished wooden item made a forcible sound once it slammed beside your Pokémon.
"Wood Hammer!" Komala slams down its body to the unsuspecting Ditto, who was thrown off to the side. The duplicate Komala let out a grunt, before rising back and rolling into your Komala repeatedly. By now, Komala was straining to stay conscious, wobbling from the attack. But it's still there, its sheer resoluteness shining among battered pain.
"This is the last leg, come on!" You called out, "Let's hit it with a flail!"
"Flail?" Kendo questions, as the slumbering koala got ready for its last attack. You send a grin her way, a face showing confidence.
"Flail is an attack that deals damage when the user is at their weakest." Komala charged towards the braced lookalike, the imposter Komala clutching the log on its arms tightly, perhaps trying to make sure it stays within its grasp by holding it tighter. You continued preparedly. "So we can say that Komala is..."
With a harsh attack right towards the copied Koala Pokémon, it was left pushed back to slam into a tree. "-Going to win this!" The duplicate, battered and hurt, tried to get up from where it laid, even using the log as a cane. With little strength, it was able to stand on one leg only to slump down tiredly, releasing the log that rolled away as Komala victoriously grabs it.
"WOAH!" Tetsutetsu hollered, as you watched your Pokémon.
In wobbly steps, Komala kept a tight clutch on his returned item, gleaming and cooing happily amidst its light snoozing. You weren't surprised when it got right back into its favorite position, sitting snuggly on the ground with its 'pillow' clutched on his arms tightly. The little koala let out a gurgle of happiness and got right back to snoozing away. You crouched down beside it, eagerly cradling the being who was finally getting a well-earned rest after a battle. "You did it." You crooned, "I know you do this all the time, but get some rest."
Komala contently snuggled you, finally relaxing after the battle. You smiled as both Kendo and Tetsutetsu looked down at the koala with happy looks, with Kendo bending down with her hands on her knees, and Tetsutetsu crouched down on Komala's other side.
Tetsutetsu actually sniffled. "Bro...you were amazing."
Kendo smiled, undeterred by Tetsutetsu's sudden weepiness to compliment. "That was incredible, you really got-," She pulled her head away to point out at the knocked-out lookalike, only to drawback with a frown. "Wait-! It's gone!"
Both you and Tetsutetsu had turned your attention to Kendo, who pointed out the most painstakingness obvious creature to be nowhere to be found. You all got to your feet in a hurry, watching as the now returned Ditto-state blob was maneuvering its way on the ground tiredly, trying to make its escape, carrying a load of items already.
"Hey-!" Tetsutetsu was the first to yell, as Ditto, who made an attempt to leave, shifted back into the familiar form of the lady, her bright hat almost covering her head, before sprinting off towards the exit. "You still need to give back what you stole!"
It ran off, and the three of you were left stunned. Komala let out a frustrated grumble, not quite snoozing off completely as suddenly another creature popped up in front of Kendo.
"...Ai?" Aipom somehow made its way back, hanging off from a low branch. There were no words exchange as an All Might mask was dropped onto a dumbfounded Kendo, who caught it mindlessly. The monkey tittered, before disappearing into the trees once more.
"..."
There's practically nothing to be said, as you all gave each other looks. With that, you all attempted to take chase with your masks placed on preparedly. You made sure to ensure Komala, who refused to get into his Pokeball, had his Aizawa mask on before Tetsutetsu took it upon himself to carry it on his shoulders once more. Tetsutetsu led the way with a determined scowl. "Stop right there!"
The ditto was pretty quick-witted, changing to another form before running off, but you knew it was already at a disadvantage. Not only has it slowed down from its fast pace, but its form was also missing details from its faulty memory. The lady's rounded large hat had gone more like a pointy witch hat at this point on, and it was easy to see it now.
The Ditto was panicking, always checking its behind, hoping that it got the three of you off its tail. It can't help but grow warier when it can still spot the students' sprinting form, faces covered with masks of varying heroes that only made you and your friends look like villains yourself.
No matter, the Ditto decided. The exit should be close by, as it weaved through the crowd hastily. Unfortunately for it, it would be entering dangerous grounds, for the security Pokémon were patrolling there.
Right in front of the Ditto, the pathway was filled with a little fewer people than before. It was pretty comforting for the Ditto who raced down the path only to stumble at the appearance of an imposing Tropius, who didn't notice what was going on.
"Tropius!" The huge monster lifted his head, his long neck dragging his head to stare at the current spectacle lazily. It noticed quickly of the racing 'human' running towards it, and simply tried to block the area for it to move. Ditto got frightened and maneuvered towards another direction all while narrowly avoiding said gigantic Pokémon.
As you rushed past the large pokemon, Tropius eyed your masked form down with a look of surprise, "Over there Tropius!" You pointed to a certain direction, before rushing to follow your friends, leaving the clever Pokémon to its task.
Upon your chase, you caught sight of a shadow overlapping your forms from above. You smiled and quickly whipped your gaze up to see Dragonite orange skin, looking down at you with curiosity. The Dragon tilted its head a bit, but you didn't hesitate at that moment.
"Dragonite-!" The Pokémon perked abruptly at the familiar voice, finally realizing it was you behind the Midnight mask, as you pointed your forefinger to a particular figure. "Block it from going there!"
The powerful Pokémon didn't even need a second-order, because it's already in pursuit. The human Ditto was sweating bullets, rushing as fast as its tired body can, only to be halted by the dragon Pokémon hovering in front of it again. Ditto had no choice but to go only one path, the path that leads straight to the exit.
'If this goes according to plan...' You tried to find a certain other Pokémon, 'Then we'll catch it.'
You searched around, before pinpointing right on one of the booths, Swirlix was there, enchanted by the ice cream man scooping the sweet iciness giddily as if it was waiting for the treats itself. "Swirlix!" The last Pokémon you called out jumped in a dazed, scouring around quickly with its usual ditzy expression. "Entangle her!"
It gazed at the obvious culpable person, seemingly contemplating. Right when the 'lady' was about to run past it, it spat out a sticky thread, shooting out towards the floundering Ditto, who in its haste got caught way too easily. The white thread was sticky like it was cotton candy itself. With no words, Swirlix floated to action, moving around the 'human' to tangle it even more in its strings as Ditto was forced to be held back.
"They got her!" Kendo appointed happily, the All Might mask of hers doesn't necessarily suit her, but she was happy enough.
The Human Ditto continued to try to push her luck, tugging the strings forward as Swirlix held on. It seemed, like the Ditto finally lost, as it stopped pulling on its net, crumbling tiredly backward. With it stuck in its web, the duplicate creature had no choice but to forsake the goods in its arms. From snacks to practically random items, it all dropped one by one, as a show of waving its white flag in surrender.
"It looks like it's finally giving up..." You mentioned as the three of you picked up speed. The captured 'human' was quickly garnering looks from awed passersby, as it slumped tiredly.
As the three of you got closer, about to capture the humanoid Ditto, the Ditto lady began transforming with the last of its strength. You gaped, watching as the creature decided to use a form much larger than its usual, spiraling taller and much more imposing. You stopped as you recognize its face, the face of an important figure.
It was All Might.
A slightly wonkier version of said pro-hero, as the imposter struck a small heroic pose. You eyed around in surprise before you noticed the alleged cut-out cardboard of All Might. It used its memory to make a copy of All Might just from recognizing the cardboard? You were baffled, and so was everybody else, as All Might in a burst of strength, dashed forward catching Swirlix off guard.
Still ensnarled with the webs of cotton, the 'pro-hero' forcibly pulled forward and made a mad dash to the exit. Swirlix yelped, pulled with the Ditto's sudden burst of speed. It could only follow behind the racing Ditto as Tetsutetsu eyed with wide eyes. "Of all things, it chose All Might?!"
Ditto was almost there. The exit was just beyond those few steps it can take as it could care less of the Pokémon hitching a ride. The Ditto-All Might eyed the gates with shiny dotted eyes, a wave of relief washing over it. It's, however, small sense of relief was washed away when it noticed the abundant amount of people by the exit, who don't look like the average.
"There's nowhere to run! We have you right where we want you!" The shapeshifter gawk at the pro-heroes awaiting it. The voice that called out to it was from a burly man, a pro-hero by the name Death Arms, alongside Mount Lady and Kamui woods who readied themselves for any rash actions.
Ditto glanced back, still seeing the Swirlix trying with all its might to hold the currently-changed formed Ditto back, and the three teenagers hounding after it. It tried to see if it can go anywhere else, only seeing Tropius dauntingly blocking one, and Dragonite hovering over the other silently. It has no choice; it'll have to break through the front.
'All Might' narrowed its eyes, going even faster. It's at its wit ends, but just out of the gate. To get back! Back to-!
The Ditto didn't notice, rather it was whizzing towards the exit desperately to not see a bulky Pokémon charging straight at it. The wide being was sturdy, having a similar built to large extinct reptiles in all four. It didn't look like a creature bolting towards the Ditto, but instead a large stone-like shield racing to block it. And Ditto, who couldn't stop itself now, slammed right into it.
One harsh pound to the head with the shield-like face and Ditto had finally, and definitely, gotten knocked out. The pro-heroes that were about to jump into battle halted, in fact, they looked stunned as the large shield-faced Pokémon let out an angered huff, before stomping on the ground triumphantly.
The three of you finally halted, slightly out of breath from all that chasing. A crowd had formed upon the capture; you were just thankful that the response was happy claps to the dignified creature, who paid little mind to the applause, puffing out proudly. "Whoa! What Pokémon is that?" Tetsutetsu questioned eagerly, eyeing at the knock-out Ditto thief through his Vlad king mask. "It just finished him off!"
"That's Bastiodon," You answered, slightly pulling off the Midnight mask. You gleamed. "She's one of the Pokémon from the agency."
Bastiodon: The Shield Pokémon
A Rock and Steel Type
Any frontal attack is repulsed. It is a docile Pokémon that feeds on grass and berries. This Pokémon is from roughly 100 million years ago. Its terrifyingly tough face is harder than steel.
"It's a fossil Pokémon. They shouldn't exist on the planet right now at all, but due to researchers finding its bone, the government was able to restore this one." You explained to the awed duo, as you eyed at the extinct pocket monster. Just like Chansey, this one isn't one of your own. Actually, this one's far more out of ordinary, being a fossil Pokémon that the management had gotten their hands on after reviving them. "She's the only one in existence as of today."
That makes Bastiodon the 4th Pokémon security team member.
"That leaves one more member, but he doesn't want to be seen walking about..." You hummed, as Komala continued to drone in its sleep on Tetsutetsu's sleep.
"Wow..." Kendo voiced, finally pulling off her mask. She gazed at you with a small laugh. "Makes you wonder why they don't restore real dinosaurs, huh."
"A Steel-type huh?" Tetsutetsu looked proud, "We're basically the same breed."
"She's a rock type too, so I guess she's a mixture of you and Kirishima-kun?" You joked, but Tetsutetsu only gave a blank look in return.
"...Who?"
Putting aside the now lighthearted conversation, you eyed at the knocked-out All Might, something no one would say would be often, on the ground wrapped in thread with a hovering Swirlix eyeing at it uncertainly, as Bastiodon simply stood its ground. You watched as the pro-heroes hesitantly made their move to apprehend the shapeshifting thief.
You yelped when you notice the pretend All Might body slowly beginning to light up. The Ditto was returning to its original form. In alarm, you clocked to the steel-student with fear shining in your eyes. "Quick Tetsutetsu-san, distract them!"
"Huh?" Tetsutetsu blinked, trying to register your words. But you have already rushed away, maneuvering around leaving both Kendo and Tetsutetsu alone in the throng. Kendo gave Tetsutetsu a hurried look, understanding your worry.
"Quick, Tetsutetsu-kun. Be loud!" Kendo began, as she dragged down Tetsutetsu's Vlad King mask to cover his face. "Just like how you usually are!"
"WHA-." Tetsutetsu didn't even care that there was a mask on his face now, but he sounded disgruntled. "I AM NOT LOUD!"
Everyone took the bait and gazed at the shouting teen in askance, even garnering the pro-heroes' attention. They probably didn't put too much care on the thief knowing it's finally out cold and wrapped up. As Tetsutetsu continued his shouting, Swirlix, watching the thief, perked when it heard your voice calling out to it again.
Upon grabbing the Pokémon attention, you quickly called it to come closer. Swirlix listened eagerly, pulling the Ditto with him to your hidden form in a random shrubbery. Bastiodon noticed the action, about to reprimand the cotton Pokémon until it saw you. It decided to let it go, before letting out a small grunt of acknowledgment to you. You smiled at the creature, before turning to the cotton being.
"Swirlix!" You cooed, as the Swirlix grew happy at your appearance. You reached over to pat it, realizing too late that your hand would become gluey on your palm and smell like candy. "Okay, best not to hug..." The Swirlix didn't look deterred, simply swirling around you ecstatically. You giggled, before taking your attention to Ditto.
Finally, the large figure of All Might was not what you see, but instead a tiny little purple blob, drearily eyeing up at you tiredly. It looked completely drained. You crouched, the Ditto pulling away at your action before you gently reached out a hand.
"Ditto right...?" It didn't react to it. "...Let's get you healed up, then we can talk later."
There was a brief silence as Swirlix peered over at the worn-out Ditto, curious about the purple blob's next action. With still some hesitance, it reached a blob-hand to your outreached one in agreement. You smiled, grateful for its action before calmly taking out an empty Pokeball. You blinked when you saw the pro-heroes and Tetsutetsu with Kendo coming around the bushes unexpectedly.
"Ah..." You ignored the Ditto for a moment, taking a quick peek at your two partners of crime, before bowing down. "I'm sorry-,"
"Your friend already explained to us, it's fine." The burliest pro-hero quickly cut in, as you blinked in surprise. The pro-hero gestured to Kendo, who gave you a firm nod with a reassuring smile. He didn't look all that mad, but he still sounded stern. "It was rash of you to do this without informing any teachers or us, so next time we'd like you to at least explain yourself more."
This guy, Death Arm, quickly got to the point. You were a little flabbergasted at the unexpected results but was grateful to not get an earful of a lecture- at least for now. Mount Lady had peered at the withered Ditto blinking up at her curiously, while Kamui Woods stood in the sidelines with crossed arms. "Ah, so this is also a Pokémon? Looks a lot different than the ones we've seen before..."
"Mount Lady..." The wood-based hero you remembered sometimes seeing in the news sighed. He decided to ignore his work partner to nod at you in small appreciation. "The Pokémon reacted quickly, I suppose it must be due to you. You're doing well in the Sports Festival, keep it up."
You could only let out a small nod, as Mount Lady came up to you. Your senior placing her hand on her hips, standing next to you. She gave you an interested smile, "That's right. By the way, during your internship, you should come to my agency! It would be nice to see the Pokémon battles side by side."
"...Right." You voiced, only being blocked out by Kamui Woods who shook his head tiredly.
"Already scouting? The Sports Festival hasn't even ended."
"You need to go for the kill when the opportunities come!"
"Anyway, you should all head back now." Death Arm interrupted his colleagues arguing, before sternly giving you and the class B students a nod. "We're letting you all off with a warning, but next time it would be better if you informed us."
The stern pro-hero smiled broadly, he didn't look all that scary anymore. "Well then, and good luck on your match."
Just like that, with them coming in all of sudden, they disappeared, bantering as they went back to patrolling. You blinked, giving Kendo and Tetsutetsu confused stares, where the latter shrugged in response.
Kendo stepped up, "I think I was able to convince them to let it off easy." She chuckled a bit, before whispering. "Honestly, it was a bit easy when they sort of felt like the Pokémon just stole their jobs." You had no words to say after hearing Kendo's answer, a wave of amazement washing over you-the prowess of a class president shows! In the end, you and Kendo laughed at just the ridiculousness of it all.
"Hey, what are you going to do about this guy?" Tetsutetsu gestured to the Ditto, who was still being watched by Swirlix. Tetsutetsu slowly let down Komala, pulling off its mask, before settling him on the ground. Komala and Ditto stared at each other, the latter albeit a little uncomfortable.
"Oh yeah." You walked towards the Ditto once more, who didn't shrink away from you again. You gently tapped the Pokeball to the creature, as the machine swallowed the Ditto up, letting it snuggly stay there. You did the same to a content Komala. "I'm going to get them healed up later, so they're staying with me for now." You gazed at the duo thankfully, "I really couldn't thank you guys enough for helping out..."
"It's no trouble (Last)-chan." Kendo started, the ginger smiling at the Swirlix gazing at her curiously. "This was something I didn't expect to be doing during lunch, but it's definitely a good kind of something."
"Told you I'd be your right-arm hand!" Tetsutetsu beamed, the male seemingly proud after you and the rest completed in finding the 'criminal'. You smiled at the robust male.
"Though I wasn't planning for you to join me, I'm glad that you helped out Tetsutetsu-san." You explained, the steel-quirked boy listening quietly. "Komala might not act like it, but I'm sure he finds you a bro too." You added, remembering the cute scene of a protective older brother Tetsutetsu before you complimented. "Although you didn't make it to the final, I would have love to battle you, you would be cool."
"..." Tetsutetsu for once stayed silent. His face reminded you of a rebooting computer. You were about to question him worriedly when his face burned red. You blinked, as the iron-quirked male basically blew up. "I-I would like to battle you too (Last)!"
Kendo chuckled at the burst of reaction. "Tetsutetsu, you seem embarrassed." She pointed out, the male turning away abruptly. He's actually being shy, which was a huge bombshell to you who was used to his stoutness. You simply stood confusedly, before Kendo nudged you silently. She grinned discreetly, feeling a tad playful. "Where's my compliment?"
Your confusion was easily replaced with a small laugh, "Thank you Kendo-san." You couldn't stop chuckling a bit. "I wouldn't be able to handle most things if it weren't for your help, really-thank you." The response made Kendo's smile brightened, looking at you happily before she lightly chastises.
"Then as a repayment, I would like you to call me more familiarly." Which you agreed to quickly. All in all, it was a pretty eventful lunchtime for the three of you.
The three of you began walking away, Swirlix simply hovering over you before you had to tell it to patrol without bothering any of the people just trying to make their food. You didn't forget to greet your Pokémon, Tropius, who bended down his long neck for you gently caress. The people around stared in amazement that made you feel a bit awkward, but you moved on.
The impending force to chase disappeared upon the Ditto pocketed on your tracksuit, and finally, you all relaxed. Tetsutetsu and Kendo seemed joyful, the aftermath of the adrenaline making them seem all the more relieved from the chaos that happened. As you walked together with the two, you recognize a voice, shouting from far away.
"(LAAST)-SAANN!"
You turned your attention to a person standing on the other side of the pathway. He was far too far for you to really know who it was before you blinked and were faced with him. The speedster didn't look out of breath in the slightest.
"Iida!? What's going on?" You questioned, the square class president sternly eyeing you, as both Tetsutetsu and Kendo watched from in front of you with a glint of surprise in their expression. Tetsutetsu at the very least scrunched his eyebrows perplexedly.
Iida Tenya, who for some reason raced towards you as if he needed to tell you the world was ending right at this very second, began vigorously chopping his arm forward. He gave you an appointed stare, his entire being the embodiment of righteous sternness. "You haven't eaten anything yet, have you? Lunch is almost ending! We must make haste!"
Oh-so that's what it was about. You huffed a small laugh. "Ah-alright Iida-san." You have no complaint with that, as your stomach grumbled angrily.
"With all that you ate in the morning, you should at least eat more when the time arrives." Iida continued his tirade, making you nod indulgingly. He must've not noticed the other company, as his eyes alit in recognition at Kendo once he turned to them. "Oh, you must be Class 1-B's Class President. We crossed paths a couple of times in the teacher's room but haven't acquainted each other. It's nice to meet you."
"Ah...Nice to meet you too." Kendo shook Iida's hand, still a little dumbfounded by the high-strung class A student. You chuckled a little louder, watching the scene laxly. Iida's appearance was a surprise, but it was welcomed one.
"Wait-Lunch is almost finished?!" Tetsutetsu all of a sudden cut in, groaning in dismay. "Damn it, I need to get my Yakitori!"
"Ah-! Comfey is still there too!" You jolted in sudden revelation. Comfey must be waiting with Tetsutetsu's plastics of Yakitori blankly, as you turned to the class President. "Iida-san! I still need to go pick her up first."
Iida made an affirmed sound at that, as he gestured to the pavement. "Alright then, I shall accompany you. Let's go!"
You and the rest were befuddled at Iida's firmed words, but he left no room left to complain as you all ventured back to the hidden area, rushing towards the lone Pokémon holding too much food than it knew what do with.
❧
After saying your goodbyes to both the class B students, Iida followed you as you dropped off Komala and Comfey, along with a fatigued Ditto at the nurse's office. Recovery girl scolded you lightly about the tired creature but took the Pokémon into her care kindly.
With that, Iida quickly began ushering you to the cafeteria. And that's how you ended up in your situation, sitting by one of the lunch tables, patiently looking around in slight awkwardness as you waited for the class president.
Iida had insisted that he would bring you your lunch, as you drank the canned beverage you got from the vending machine. Iida still lecturing you a tad about eating as you bought a drink for both you and him.
For the most part, the canteen was empty. There were still a few groups of students sitting at their table, but it's a far cry from the infamously crowded lunchtime that the school seems to have. You were left alone, none of your classmates around as you assumed their already preparing to head to the main arena.
You were pulled out from your mindless drinking when Iida dropped the tray down, sitting on the seat across from you. He slid the tray towards you, causing you to blink down at it.
"Oh!" You were filled with warmth at the familiar smell wafting out of a dish. One look at it and yours alit, for it was your favorite dish placed neatly and tidily.
Your expression visibly gleamed to the president, who was quite proud of his choice, before schooling his face back sternly. He pushed his square-rim glasses closer to his face. "It is important to obtain a healthy diet. But at the very least, you must eat to retain your energy."
You were already in the midst of digging in as he lectured, the hunger you were consumed with made you a little torpid to your environment, as Iida lectured. "With that being said, it is also with utmost importance that you have a fulfilling breakfast to start the day."
You chuckled after taking a mouthful of the food, a sense of relief washing over you after it entered your mouth. You eyed up at your stern-faced friend. "That's true, I was so caught up with everything that I forgot." You silently went back to your meal, before smiling down at it. "How did you know I liked this?"
"You order them often," Iida explained as if it was quite obvious. His stern eyes had softened as Iida finally felt he lectured enough. "Whenever we eat lunch, you seemed to enjoy this particular dish more than the others."
Iida can vividly remember how happy you were when you first got the lunch you desired. Apart from being amazed that Lunch Rush can just make anything, and I mean anything you wanted, you were just so ecstatic that you ordered it on the spot. You could've asked for a medium-well steak, and Pro-hero: Lunch Rush will just about place a full-blown banquet on your tray.
Your eyes sparkled once you had the food in front of you that day, in fact, you just stared at it for the first 5 minutes before he, Midoriya, and Uraraka had to remind you class will begin soon.
He felt his usually rational heart grow tender as you ate your food happily. It eased him a lot watching you eat after hearing of your almost non-existent breakfast, and Iida finally felt like he could relax at that moment. He clutched the canned orange juice you bought for him happily.
Not too long later, he was reminded of the events before, during the cavalry battle. He felt like he had to input about it, even though he felt a tad bad for interrupting your happy eating. Nonetheless, there was no better time than now.
"While you eat, I wanted to say something." You brought your gaze away from your delectable food, that tasted the most divine you had felt in a while, to pay attention to Iida. "I wanted to congratulate you on your team's last win. You truly have outsmarted me."
"Iida, thank you." You were actually pulled away from your food at Iida's compliment, the twinge of unsettlement setting in you. The odd sinking feeling made it hard for you to continue to dig in, as you felt like you had to address more. Coming back from all the troubles earlier, everything from the events came back to you. The feeling of guilt crawling to you. "I-,"
"But even so, I won't lose again." Iida determinedly says with a stern front that made you shut your mouth. "So I truly hope to meet you on the battlefield again. I want you to give it your all if we end up combatting."
You sat silently, a part of your speechless and feeling even more remorseful. You didn't know what to say as you and Iida had a silent stare-off, while you were left with a dry-tongue with an inability to suddenly talk. It felt tense to you, as perhaps Iida was truly considering you as a formidable opponent he wanted to beat. But it didn't feel like that for you- you who was using the Sports Festival for higher gain.
"...Iida, I-,"
"Woah hey, what are you two still doing here?"
Both you and the stern class president greeted the new guest, who was both Kaminari and Mineta who somehow stumbled by your table. They looked pretty surprised to see you two, as Iida acknowledged them. "Oh, Kaminari-kun and Mineta-kun. I thought you both wanted to be at the arena earlier?"
"Ahh-We were just coming back from getting some energy drinks," Kaminari answered, some truth and lies within that sentence. Though it was true they went back for a drink, they left because Mineta senses were kicking in about you not knowing about the 'thing' as Kaminari had suggested. Seems Mineta senses for these things are legit.
"Be sure not to drink too much." Iida was the same as ever, chopping his arm forward. "It's good to keep the energy high, but it could lead to health problems." You stayed silent, still reeling from the conversation to pay attention.
Kaminari grew hesitant, shooting Mineta a look that screamed, 'Iida's here! What to do?!' As the grape-head merely replied internally. 'Leave it to me this time-!'
"Actually, we also came here to tell you about something (Last)." Mineta started, making you turn to the duo questionably, shaking your earlier thoughts to listen. "Apparently, all of the class girls are made to do some cheers."
The words caught your attention, as you blinked down at the smaller boy. "Oh?" It made you forget all the other things as the duo perked. Even though your attention was captured, you didn't look convinced. You gave them a confused smile. "This is the first time I've heard of it."
"Same with me." Iida looked entirely bewildered, staring at the duo questionably. "Is what you said true?"
"You don't have to believe me, Aizawa-sensei said it himself." Mineta continued with a neutral expression on his face. Kaminari merely nodded as a back-up to his friend.
Iida looked entirely befuddled at that notion. "Aizawa-sensei didn't inform me-!" Kaminari and Mineta simply laughed awkwardly, saying it was a last-minute thing.
You on the other hand grew more suspicious, your eyes narrowing a bit at the duo individually with careful eyes, making them lightly sweat. Mineta cleared his throat, but the nerves are still there. "You could ask him if you're that unsure."
"Hmmm, maybe I will." You simply stated after pondering, pulling your steady gaze away from the duo, who finally had a chance to breathe only to realize their little mishap. If you start asking Aizawa, then the plan will fail. You still smiled nonetheless, "Thanks for telling me, I'll check it up with Aizawa-sensei."
"Uh-um, Yeah! No prob!" Mineta stammered, before shooting Kaminari an unsure glare. The question, 'what are we going to do now?' frankly obvious to Kaminari, who was honestly quite jolted by your steely resolution. Honestly, he's somehow more star-struck at your display than put off. Kaminari already accepted that they lost with this one.
"But the event will start soon (Last)-san." Iida eventually questioned as a precaution. Mineta and Kaminari thought Iida would be handing them their demise, but perhaps Iida is actually their saving grace. "It would take a while to get to Aizawa-sensei."
"That's okay," You chuckled, shutting the trios' traps. Iida somehow got winded into this mess and he had no idea. "Besides, I have something to prepare for. Anyway, I'll be taking my leave." Swiftly and quickly, the trio realized you had already finished your lunch and was getting up to put it away. You grin silently at each of them, "I'll see you in the field. Thank you again for the food Iida-san."
And you were gone like the wind, Mineta let out a cry, "Wait but the girls are already-!"
"Stop Mineta," Mineta blinked at his counterpart, who partially looked solemn but inwardly unable to hide is amazement. "We lost already." Mineta weirdly gazed at his usually willing friend but brushed it off at the obvious mooned expression on Kaminari's face. Oh well.
"-Lost?"
Mineta and Kaminari gawked at Iida, still seated in his seat stiffly. Iida held his can of orange juice, a rather confused expression taking over his usually berating look. He fixed his glasses silently. "What do you mean by that?"
The duo decided to book it. "Ahahaha! Nothing really! Anyway, Mineta, we should get going!" Kaminari started, sweating a bit as Mineta hastily nodded.
"Yup, yup! Uh-See you, Class President!" And then they were gone too.
Iida sat alone in the large empty cafeteria, brows furrowed in confusion. Then he blinked at his can of orange juice, before taking a hefty gulp. Alright, time to prepare for the battles!
❧
You were finally alone, standing by one of the arena's entrance to relax a bit before heading in. You had a lot on your mind at that moment and simply decided to browse through your phone for a short minute, looking for the results of the third-years you have come to be acquainted with.
It's safe to say that the first year arena had garnered the most attention this year from the news of the villain attack and the showcasing of the dubious Pokémon, but that doesn't mean the 2nd and 3rd arenas aren't just as packed. You browsed around, before scouring the names of the three seniors you met.
"Ah-! They made it." You smiled upon seeing their names on the finals. Togata, Nejire, and Amajiki; it looks like they all pushed hard to make it to the finals this year, especially after they didn't make it far in the last Sports Festival. You were far too busy happily scrolling that you didn't notice the arrival of Dragonite.
The Pokémon swooped down to greet you, landing right in front of you causing you to jolt. You perked your head up to the glorious dragon being, who didn't say much but simply lean onto you for pets. You chuckled, "Dragonite, what are you doing here?" You placidly wrapped your arms around the Dragons head, as it snuggled close to your chest, asking for more. You grinned, "Thanks for your help earlier, it helped a lot."
With the Pokémon asking so firmly, you had no choice but to coddle it with lots of gentle strokes that made it coo. The calming mood was completely ethereal, as you searched up the Pokémon out of curiosity. You weren't surprised to see how popular the topic was, as UA Sports Festival is garnering more watchers than it was last year.
Dragonite peeked into your phone, as you showcase it to him. "Look, look Dragonite, you're in one of the top articles." The dragon Pokémon eyed the picture, letting out a small grunt, before turning away from it. You laughed, before looking at it yourself.
The news...were positive, in a sense. It felt like the crowds' opinion had shifted drastically, and the Pokémon were finally being looked at with more open-minds. But that didn't mean everything was positive, as there were a few articles still holding suspicion and uncertainty on the matter. You eyed one of the titles.
UA Sports Festival transformed into a Monster circus act!
You hurriedly shut your phone, frowning. Dragonite stare at you knowingly, but you ignored it to gently pat the creature once more. You sighed.
"Hey, Boss!" A little away from you, you caught sight of Meowth being carried by a two-left-feet Midoriya, the boy fumbling in steps, as the cat standing on his shoulders waved once he noticed you. Midoriya was having trouble standing straight with the added weight on his head, but he kept on drawing nearer. You eyed the scene weirdly, confused at the strange combo. "Did ya miss me?"
You sighed before they even made it. "Meowth, what are you doing to Midoriya-kun? Did you blackmail him or something?" Meowth appeared offended, only slightly because yeah, that's something he would do, but the audacity.
"No, I didn't!" Meowth responded, sliding down the awkward boy's body to stand in front of you. The sassy feline placed his hands on his hips. "For your information, I have more to complain about than you do today."
You rolled your eyes, before acknowledging Midoriya, "Sorry Midoriya-kun, hope he didn't bother you too much?"
"No, no, it's alright!" Midoriya waved his arms, before scratching the side of his neck nervously. "I think I bothered him more than he bothered me."
"Damn right you did!" Meowth gave him a look, but he brushed it off to aim at you. "How's the burn?" He eyed Dragonite, who somehow was unnoticed until now by both Meowth and Midoriya, the green-haired boy's eyes gleaming in awe, as the cat clambered up the dragon's body to sit on his snout. Dragonite looked entirely unbothered. "It ain't going to hinder you on the 3rd round right?"
"It's fine. Chansey, Audino, and Recovery girl teamed up to get it healed up. I'll need to get it checked again, but it doesn't hurt as much anymore."
"That's good." Midoriya cut in, relief evident in his expression.
"Jeez, you just had to get the headband didn't you?" Meowth commented, shaking his back and forth. The cat then added without a second thought. "Anyway, Todoroki just had his background story revealed and you missed it."
"Todoroki-san?" You perked at the topic of the hot-cold classmate, as Midoriya looked astounded.
"Meowth-!"
"Oh shush, it's only boss!" Meowth brushed it off, as Midoriya let it go silently. "Yeah, well anyway things weren't so great for the guy. Not gonna lie, made me a tad bit guilty of the insults I made at the breakroom." Meowth pinched his fingers together, the two barely touching. Meowth gazed at it intensely, "Just a little though."
"Oh..." You answered unsurely, somehow at a bit of a loss of words. "He really must've had it bad huh?"
"A bit..." Midoriya this time answered. He knew he could trust you with this, but he didn't feel comfortable talking about it without Todoroki. He quickly shifted the conversation. "Um, but never mind that, are you nervous for the next round."
"Hmm, a little bit." You replied, shrugging out an answer. "Mostly I'm just drained from chasing a Ditto earlier."
"Ditto huh? So there was trouble outside!" Meowth began, appearing interested. You gave the cat a look, who finally maneuvered itself away from a quiet Dragonite to your shoulder. The weight not bothering you in the slightest. Midoriya drifted his gaze too Dragonite curiously. "You gotta tell me all about it boss!"
"Later," You shake your head, before turning to the green-haired boy. "By the way, how did you end up talking with Todoroki-san?" Midoriya blinked from his dazed look, as the two Pokémon turned his way. Dragonite bends down its head for you to pat again.
"Ah-well, Todoroki-kun wanted to confront me about something."
"And by something, it's his assumption of Midoriya being a bastard child of Mr. symbol of peace." Meowth had to place a paw on his mouth, his grin still bluntly obvious, as the cat tittered amusedly. You can't help but be a bit amused too, as Midoriya slumped.
"I-I really thought he was gonna find out about the truth-!" You chuckled, pulling your palm from Dragonite's head to lightly pat his arms.
"Well, I guess we should be thankful Todoroki-san doesn't suspect anything that hits too close to home. Or we'll have a lot to discuss with All Might again." You and Midoriya couldn't help but chuckle, the latter feeling giddier at your lighthearted mood. For some reason when he came by with Meowth, you looked a tad down. He's glad to see it gone. You continued, asking a bit in curiosity. "Have any guesses on the last round, you know, as a hint to this clueless Pokémon lady?"
"I can assent to the clueless Pokémon lady part." Meowth chipped in cheekily, which you only rolled your eyes too.
"W-Well, usually during the last rounds in the sports festival, the games revolved on a 1 vs 1 game. It could be simple battles, or perhaps a chariot game. I wonder what we're going to have soon..." A chariot game sounded excessive, you can't help but think as Midoriya continued. "I'm excited to find out what it's going to be in the next round." Midoriya's so pure, as he looked at you brightly. "Uh- but besides that, if we end up battling, let's do our best!"
For some reason, that despondency that he thought was gone had appeared again. He gazed uneasily as you glance at Dragonite, who blinked at your sudden shift, to give a stiff nod to Midoriya. "...Right."
"..."
"..."
"...Hey, boss." Meowth's earlier lightheartedly teasing suddenly disappeared, as a serious visage replaced the cheeky cat's face. It was a rare sight, a new sight to Midoriya, as he tilted his head to you so you can see him. "It's just a game, so you should have fun." The cat began, it sounded like the cat was reassuring you. "Don't think about them too much."
"...Right," Your bothered expression disappearing to a small smile. "So I guess we should head in right Midoriya?" You diverted the attention to the arena, a bell ringing around to tell everyone to come back. Midoriya, who was busy pondering what word had caused you to act so glum, perked hastily.
"Yes!"
Without another word, you both entered the arena- Of course, not before you told Dragonite to get back patrolling. Midoriya, who walked just a bit behind you, couldn't help but take a glimpse at you worriedly. He couldn't quite see your expression, but it made him all the more concern.
Meowth, who stayed silent on your shoulder, was watching you too. The feline eyed you from the corner of his eyes, watching you carefully when you called out to him. "Meowth." The cat hummed in response, as you kept watching the front. "...There's no choice, but for me to do my best, right?"
"..." Meowth stayed silent, simply watching the back of your head. "If you're thinking about them, it'll be fine. Things are going well...!"
"But what if well is not enough..." You answered, as Midoriya silently listened from beside you. Meowth was cat-tongue for a moment, before you breathed in deeply. "I-I need to stop feeling bad, about all this..." A certain resoluteness rising in your heart. "So I can focus on important things."
"Until I'm sure that things would be stable...I can't hold back."
Meowth and Midoriya were left dumbfounded, as you powerwalked your way to the arena. Your sheer determination wafting out of you, as your eyes were set on the prize. Meowth could only slightly frown, knowing already that even with that resolve, the guilt you felt still lingers. The cat can only let out a small sigh. "Don't overdo it then..."
❧
Another long one today! Honestly, I'm just glad I can write about the other Pokémon in this, and give them small spotlights during this chapter! But finally, we're back with the Sports Festival games, but just a little something before we do, I'm sure you can guess from what's going with Pikachu ;) but don't worry, the 1 vs 1 will start the next chapter.
I'm glad to give Tetsutetsu and Kendo some small limelight this chapter, as well as a bit of Iida, who has barely gotten much interaction. Whenever I think about who the reader should interact with, I just think of the characters who haven't gotten any interaction. Iida ushering reader to get lunch was probably my favorite of the chapter, stern boi is so cute worrying about reader~ Reader's also having some sort of trouble at the moment, and I promise to delve deeper into it soon! It's honestly such a hard thing to do, and I don't think I'm doing very good at it but it's a learning process, and that's all that matters. Thank you once again for your love and comments, and hopefully, I can finish the next chapter quickly! Till next time!
A really cute fanart by SenaRedWolfZ in Quotev. Thank you so much!! The outfit's really sweet!
