❦ Thirty Five
Recap:
In the last chapter, after watching the girls in your class dressed in cheerleading outfits, with the addition of the adorable Pikachu, you decided to forfeit your place on the first round to drop you into the supplementary round, where 3 other losing students will be joining you out of popular vote. With that, you began your coordinator show with Gardevoir, Sylveon, and Buneary- gaining more positive reviews with the crowd.
Before finally, you decided to have a moment to yourself with the Pokémon, where you had unexpectedly bump into Todoroki, who was meditating himself. Forced into a sudden interaction, you both sort of hitting it off when Todoroki suddenly said that your eyes, "reminds me of my father's eyes." Leaving you walking out feeling a tad offended. In the end, as you walked off disgruntledly, you heard the chimes of the battle about the begin, as you raced off to watch the match before it's too late.
❧❧❧
"...Sometimes, I wish young (Last) was here at this moment to help me."
All Might sighed, looking at a supposed spiritless Midoriya in front of him after both he and the young successor began spitting facts of Midoriya's lack of power as of now.
Just a few minutes ago, All Might had come by hoping to encourage his successor in his upcoming battle, only to be greeted with a slightly more insecure Midoriya. Apparently, Midoriya's lack of control over his power had made him unintentionally worry, as All Might had agreed that, yes, Midoriya was still lacking as he was only using 5% of his power. That only made the boy, even more, discourage, as the young successor said. "When it's put that way, it's amazing we even won last round. I'm really blessed with good friends and a lot of luck..."
Of course with those thoughts, All Might have had no choice but to smack some sense to Midoriya- literally. "This is the part when you say, 'I'll do my best!', Prince Nonsense!" All Might let out a sigh, placing his hands on his hips, "Does the hero you aspire to be look this vulnerable?"
All Might let out another sigh, fixing up the best encouragement he could give, when Midoriya let out his own crestfallen exhale, slumping forward, infuriating the pro-hero to chop his head once more. "I'm telling you to have some courage, O' cowardly Prince Nonsense!"
"Ow, that's not what I'm worried about, All Might..." Midoriya choked from the small attack, eye siding away as the boy seemingly crumbled with endless worries. The lanky pro-hero watched as Midoriya seemed to shrink with every word he uttered. "It's just...thinking of (Last)-san...makes me worry..."
"...?" The blond pro-hero stopped, considering the green-haired boy's words to only let out a sudden hearty guffaw, surprising Midoriya. All Might cheekily laughed, looking like he knows a secret as he rubbed a finger beneath his nose. "Don't tell me, are you upset that young (Last) isn't here to encourage you?"
"T-That's not it, All Might!" Midoriya blushed furiously, momentarily forgetting his anxiousness. He was about to expand on his reasoning when All Might let out another laugh.
"Oh, young love is it?" The number one hero wiped a stray tear of laughter, as Midoriya blushed even more.
"You're wrong, All Might!" Midoriya asserted. Even if a part of him would definitely love to have you encourage him right about now, that's beside the point! Midoriya looks down to the ground. "(Last)-san has been a little bothered by something, I think." All Might had finally calmed down to listen. "She's just acting a little different, and I just really wanted to comfort her, but I can't seem to do that..."
All Might still had that knowing grin, as he questioned lightheartedly. "So, what do you think is the problem?"
Midoriya paused, his green eyes tracing his red shoes. "I'm not too sure, but I have a feeling it has to do with the Pokémon." Midoriya raised his head, thinking about the way you've been acting with a heavy heart. "It's like, she's saying things like she has to win, but at the same time, it doesn't seem like she really wants to..."
All Might let out a small hum, his lightheartedness drifting away a bit. The pro-hero smile turned down a bit as he contemplated the green-haired boy's word, trying to remember anything that might correlate with the issue in hand. But Midoriya cut in sadly once more. "Not to mention, her relation with Todoroki-san doesn't seem to be going well, which probably worsening things more. Kaachan also has been way pushier with her today since they seemed to be battling, which isn't surprising for him but still-"
"I get it, I get it!" All Might interrupted before Midoriya can begin rambling, the pro-hero sweating at the nonsensical boy. As Midoriya settled down, the well-known hero rubbed the back of his head with a small exhale. "Y'know you should be worrying more about yourself right now, right? The battle's going to begin." All Might murmured, nonetheless indulging upon the boy's nervousness. "I'm not too sure what young (Last) is going through, but I have a feeling it has something to do with what happened before..."
Midoriya tilted his head, wanting more explanation before All Might waved him off. "But that's for later, first you've got to win at your best."
"But..."
"If you want to be Prince charming, you'll have to focus on this first." All Might teased lightheartedly causing another wave of heat to Midoriya's head. Midoriya was sweating up a rainstorm and he hadn't even battled yet, as All Might seem to be enjoying himself.
"I-I-I!" Midoriya stuttered, looking everywhere but the pro-hero, before ultimately deciding to cover his face out of the intense redness. Midoriya felt a whole new wave of embarrassment, it's so weird for him to stand there while his idol teases him about these things, like love trouble. All Might seemed content at the embarrassment he had afflicted on his student when Midoriya looked away before uttering softly.
"Is...is it that obvious?"
Small silence, Midoriya bright tomato-face growing redder with each passing nanosecond.
"WOAH!" All Might blanches in shock, encouraging Midoriya to feel the same. "-Admission! I did not expect this Young Midoriya, it seems you have some courage in your bones after all." All Might slapped Midoriya's back heartily.
Midoriya waved his arms in front of him frantically. "All Might, please stop embarrassing me-!" The young green-haired One for All successor let out a heaved out-breath, looking unsettled. "It's just...she's really nice. I never thought I would have a friend that I can truly count on like (Last)-san. I didn't think I would have any friends at all-!" He admitted, smiling unconsciously, "Like Uraraka-san and Iida-kun..."
His smile suddenly subsided to a smaller grin, like he was trying to hide something as he placed his hand onto where his heart pounded. "But, this feeling. I can't help but feel...different when it comes to (Last)-san..."
All Might stood uncertainly in front of the young boy, not quite used to this new side. You truly bring out this incredibly strange side to his successor, didn't you? As the thought made All Might grin unwaveringly. "You... need to find better places to talk about this, but for now, it's time for you to get out there and do your best."
All Might's form started shifting, as the renowned look All Might have had for the longest time appeared, the buffer pro-hero encouraging. "When you're scared or worried, that's when you face it with a smile. You came this far, even if it's just an act, be proud."
Midoriya's downhearted visage upturned to courage, as he stood straighter. All Might continue in a proud stance. "Don't forget that I saw potential in you. And besides," All Might all of a sudden placed a large hand on Midoriya's shoulder, his last words causing both embarrassment and encouragement bursting down to Midoriya's core.
All Might gave a thumb's up, his grin widening. "I will support you and young (Last)'s upcoming relationship!"
『 Chapter Thirty-Five 』
"Hey, Guys! Are you ready?" Present Mic began as cheers erupted. The pro-hero was doing so much exaggerated moves; it makes the peeved Meowth wonder if he ever loses energy. "There were a lot of events,"
Meowth snorts, by mumbling, "I'll say..."
"Now, don't say that Meowth, I remember clearly you laughing up at the recreational games." Present Mic had teased, but that only served to make Meowth let out a hurt cackle, clutching his stomach at a certain memory.
"Well excuse me, you guys had 'Back Fat' part of a scavenger hunt." Meowth cackled even louder, wincing in pain from laughing so much earlier, "In what universe that would possess anyone to consider that as something to scavenge?" Meowth snickered once remembering the nerve-wracked grape-head clutching the card containing said words, but another memory of someone bringing a literal person resurfaced as Meowth doubled-over. "But nothing beats the one that got 'Perverse Person', that takes the cake-!"
Kendo awkwardly smiled as Meowth laughed even louder, complaining about how his stomach was about to burst into smithereens, as Monoma could only embarrassedly slump on his chair, mouth twitching in perturbed. "It's too much, too good!" Meowth rolled onto his stomach tiredly as he cackled.
You arrived in the stadium to the sound of Meowth's loud laughter, appearing in the bleachers where all the designated seats for the students were. As you arrived with Sylveon and Pikachu trailing after you, you heaved a tired breath out, looking around for your classmates who should all be sitting together.
Before you went here, you wanted to say some encouragement to the 2 friends that you have made, Midoriya and Shinso, for their upcoming battle. But upon wandering around in hopes to find the entrances, you were quickly found by a passing teacher, ushering you to your seats. In the end, you were forced to come here, unable to encourage either of them.
You sighed, oh well, it looks like you'll just have to do your best to cheer for them from the stands.
You bypassed the classes you weren't familiar with, looking around scrutinizingly for your class until you finally caught sight of some of your classmates' familiar faces, causing you to relax. Hagakure appeared to be the first to notice your arrival, cheering loudly, you think she might be waving. "(Name)-chan~! Over here!"
You quickly made your way over, Pikachu and Sylveon not missing a second in tailing you as Present Mic continued his cut off introduction. "Haha, yes, but like I was saying! We've had a lot of events, but it's come to this, the final battle! You can only rely on yourself, for there are situations like this even if you're a hero." Present Mic went on a tirade of encouragement, almost yeeting Meowth's laughter to the ground as he listed. "Heart, Technique, Body, Wisdom, and Knowledge. Utilize all of them to rise to the top!"
So the final battles were finally coming around, as Cementoss seems to be finishing up making the battle stage, which took most of the space of the greenery, with careful consideration, the Pro-Hero working diligently in his work. As you walked down the stairs leading to your seated classmates, your friends were all there, looking at you with joy. Uraraka cheered first, "(Name)-chan, your show was amazing!" She looked at you in happiness, as Iida smiled lightly, chopping his arm forward. "Indeed, it was an exhilarating performance."
"Yes! It was truly majestic to watch (Name)-chan!" Yaoyorozu brightly complemented from her seat, pressing the palms of her hands together as Jiro grinned, showing her approval in a small form of a thumbs up and a "Nice!"
"Ugh...I didn't get to watch for some unknown reasons..." Kaminari added in his seat, looking downhearted, before lifting with a small grin. "But I bet it was amazing! I'm still frustrated I didn't get to see it though! Damn it." Kaminari added with a small clench of his teeth as Kirishima patted the electric boy comfortingly.
You smiled, feeling a wave of bashfulness slamming you as the rest of the others also complimented the show sincerely. You grinned, before blushingly replying. "Thank you, I really hope it worked well..." You answered without thinking, causing Uraraka to blink.
"Hm? Work well for what?" You jumped, before correcting yourself.
"Ah-nothing!" You added, before trying to see where you should sit. Hagakure was quick to call you over eagerly, waving you over excitably while patting a seat beside her with a bounce.
"(Name), (Name)-chan! Sit here!" Hagakure was so eager, it's hard to ignore even if you didn't want to. She gestured to the other empty seat beside said empty seat. "Your Pokémon can sit here too! I saved a spot!" You felt like you couldn't refuse her at this point, as Mina pointedly says.
"Eh, I wanted (Name)-chan to sit next to me!"
"Too bad, I asked first!" Hagakure happily cheered, as Mina let out a small lighthearted groan, giving in as the invisible girl continue to probe you over.
You smiled lightly, before making your way over to Hagakure silently. Your Pokémon trailing after you just as quietly as you sat on the seat Hagakure had presented to you. Sylveon was quick to maneuver her way on the seat beside you, getting comfortable while the tailed-occupant beside her watched the creature in small interest. You noticed Ojiro, as Pikachu hobbled on to your lap, quickly getting coddled by Hagakure ruffling his head. "Ah, Ojiro-kun, Hello, hope you don't mind."
You had gestured to Sylveon, who sat on the chair regally, but even so as adorably as always as Ojiro waved an arm in an easygoing manner, the slightest uncertainty seemingly emitting from him. "No, no, it's okay."
"If it's uncomfortable just tell me."
"No, it's really okay. It's just interesting to look at them."
"Oh, I see, well if you're really okay with it then I'm glad."
Ojiro awkwardly replied, "Right..."
You stared at each other with small smiles- after all, it's only the polite way to look at each other as silence envelopes. Only it wasn't a comforting one, rather it's kind of awkward, as Ojiro turned his head away quickly to focus on something else.
"..." You blinked with now a tight smile, looking at a just as confused Sylveon, before smiling at your lap where Pikachu's cheek was now being pulled by Hagakure. Dread overcomes you, as you deduced with a resigned glazed stare.
"He hates me."
Hagakure flinched, and you had a feeling she looked baffled. "T-That's not true!" Hagakure quickly intercepted loudly, pulling her hand away from Pikachu's puffy cheeks. Her loud answer garnering curious glances from the rest, but the invisible girl continued to buoy up. "Trust me, that's not it (Name)-chan!"
Before any more words can be exchanged, fire erupted out of the four corners of the rectangular stage on the center stage, eliciting an excited response for the crowd. "Oh, It's starting." You blurted as Hagakure, who seemed to be trying really hard to get your thoughts changed about Ojiro, was quick to focus back on the battlegrounds, as Present Mic's presenting came back in full-throttle.
"Hey everyone! The anticipated final event is finally about to begin." Present Mic waved his arms out on the screen, Meowth peeked into the camera with the most fed-up look to be seen, which made the pro hastily wave him away, before pointing frontward, "The first round!" The screen was quick to show the two battle challengers.
You smiled, seeing a picture of a nerve wrecked Midoriya and an apathetic Shinso, two people you have found as important friends, as you wondered how this battle will come to. It's sort of exciting to see what Midoriya will bring in his battle as the boy was unpredictable from what you've seen so far, but you can't shake off the overwhelming feeling of anticipation for Shinso's battle choices more, the curiosity of the manner of his quick playing a major role in it.
Pikachu seemed curious too, standing on his back legs as you wrapped your arms around the mouse like he was a doll. You both watched on the edge of your seats.
"He's had good results! So what's with his face!" Midoriya walked out, as you can't help the small chuckle leaving you upon Midoriya's tight smile. He looks completely uncertain, but you find his nervousness cutely charming. "Midoriya Izuku, from the Hero Course!"
"Versus..." Present Mic drags as the second contender walks out from the other side. You squeezed the mouse upon noticing the once again messy lavender hair, as he looked over at the stage confidently.
You didn't avoid the chance to murmur lightheartedly. "His eye bags are really noticeable..." You giggled softly, Pikachu nodding along with a little guffaw of his own, Sylveon cooing agreeably. Hagakure glanced over at your lighthearted joke, leaning over as if she was going to ask when Present Mic introduces.
"-Sorry, he hasn't had any notable results, Shinso Hitoshi from the Ordinary Course!"
"...Who...who are you?" Meowth voices beside the loudmouth, looking at the teacher as if he was a weird clone of Present Mic, Meowth's eyes all buggy-eyed as he looked around like a lost child. Meowth rustled his head aggravatedly. "I could've sworn Trumpeter was kinder than this..." Present Mic looked mildly offended.
Not that it matters to Aizawa, the tired bandaged man adding lazily, that dramatic flair mixed in. "This...is his true side."
"Wow, really mean!" Meowth gaped, "Kind of shocked, but I'm okay with this side!"
Meowth's thumbs up wasn't appreciated, as the Presenter cried. "Hey, I'm nice!"
Then Meowth commentated with little care, letting a lazy hum. "Though to be honest, I honestly could care less about every other battle except boss's...I suppose I can cheer for Mr. eye bags and broccoli-boy since I know them a little." Meowth let a tiny shrug with a small sigh. "Though I still don't think it would be exciting..."
"Have some faith Mouser!"
"Hah! Amazing coming from you!"
As this was the first battle, Present Mic and Meowth began exchanging the rules for this final battle. "Alright, so the rules are pretty simple. You got to throw them out of bound, or paralyze them to win!" Meowth started, looking at the notes with interest. Present Mic added right after, "It's also your win if you make the opponents say 'I give up.'"
"Don't worry about injuries! Our Recovery Girl is here standing by!" Present Mic continued, as Meowth inputted.
"It says here to throw your morals and ethics aside for a moment, which is the funniest thing I've seen on a school paper FYI!" Meowth chuckled, skimming the paper with little care, "But of course, Life-threatening attacks are for scums, and you'll be disqualified. Try not to go too crazy chums!"
"They are simple..." You agreed to Meowth's statement, Pikachu nodding his head in agreement. It was probably a little too simple, but you supposed with the addition of the vibrant quirks everyone has, it is exhilarating to watch how each challenger would utilize their ability to win.
You watched as Midoriya took a deep breath in before being interrupted by Shinso, who began talking to him casually. You tilted your head, wondering if Shinso's saying something friendly. Unlikely, but you could only dream as you mused to the mouse. "I wonder what they're talking about..."
Ojiro sighed, he apparently heard your mutter, as he answered. "Whatever it is, I hope Midoriya remembered what I said..."
You gazed at Ojiro in confusion, wanting to ask the tail-man to enlighten you more when Meowth started the countdown. "Alright! Let's have an exciting match! Ready!" Meowth eyed the two chattering males.
"Start!"
You didn't know what they were discussing, but you could see what was happening on the screen. It doesn't look like they're having a great conversation, as Midoriya balled his hands in anger, an emotion you would rarely see on the green-bean, before rushing towards Shinso furiously. Yet just when the battle was about to start as you watched interestedly, it ended as Midoriya halted.
The crowd erupted in astonishment, Uraraka, and Iida gazing in shock in front of you.
'...Is this Shinso's quirk?' Your interest heightened, Pikachu and Sylveon let out their awed coos as now Midoriya stood without much emotion. His stance felt numb like there were no senses in his bones. You eyed the way Shinso seemed to gleam, looking like he already won. You heard the rustle of Ojiro rushing out of his chair, as he yelled in dismay.
"After all the warning I had given him-!"
You watched Ojiro's action curiously, before concluding that it looks like Midoriya was not Shinso's first victim today. Your eyes gleamed-so that was why Ojiro pulled back from the game, saying something about how he couldn't even remember how the games went. Your curiosity peaked at the tail-man's alarmed reaction, feeling a flash of understanding at once. Ojiro knows how Shinso's quirk works!
"Heyyy! What's happening!?" Present Mic questioned, as Meowth just tutted knowingly.
"Tsk, tsk, talk about quick now, didn't think Midoriya would get tricked that fast. That kid," Meowth gazed down at that Shinso boy with interest. It was fair to be curious, as they never met formally. But he always did wonder about the friend that you come to appreciate. "He's pretty powerful huh?"
"Right from the start, Midoriya has been paralyzed. He's frozen and won't budge at all!" Present Mic exaggerated his explanation. Meowth was getting irritated at the loud mouth next to him as Present Mic wondered if Shinso's going to take the win. Aizawa let out a brief huff of breath, earning the attention of his fellow presenters.
"That's why I said the entrance exam was unreasonable," Aizawa uttered, showing the individual papers holding both the two student's information. "He failed in the hero exam and applied for the general course. He must've expected this."
"Hmm, you do have robots in your entrance exam right?" Meowth mused, picking his ear lazily. "Kind of hard for a boy with a mental-capacity quirk to enter the hero course with exams like that huh? Too bad, he'd probably be pretty good."
From what you can see, it looked like Shinso's said an order or so, as suddenly Midoriya turned around, dragging himself out of bounds slowly. Your friends were quick to jump up, wondering why Midoriya was following along to Shinso's every whim so easily. But knowing the base of Shinso's quirk, it looks like Midoriya is already brainwashed.
You leaned past Sylveon's seat, whispering to Ojiro who finally went back to his seat with clenched fists. "Ojiro-san, is Shinso's quirk activated by a verbal response?"
Ojiro was pulled away from his worry briefly, Sylveon raising her head in question as you asked with a small smile. "I was wondering if you could explain it to me?"
"...Isn't-," There was hesitance in Ojiro's stance, like what you said threw him off. You gazed at him questionably, leaning away to hopefully ease the boy when he asked awkwardly, fidgeting in his space. "Isn't he your friend...?"
"Huh? Of course, he is." You answered easily, not quite understanding his suggestion. You were about to expand on the question even more, when Mina, sitting a seat below your row suddenly spun to peek at you with beady eyes. You yelped, when the pinkette sent you a raised brow, smiling a little too giddily.
"Just friends (Name)-chan? Are you sureee~?" Mina added with a fervent look in her raccoon eyes, just looked ready to pounce at you at any minute.
"W-What's this about?" You stuttered, Sylveon's kindly pawed your leg, but you were oblivious to it with your bewilderment. "Shinso and I have been friends since before we went to UA..."
"Hmmm..." Mina wasn't convinced, rubbing the bottom of her chin, but a glint of hope shined in her eyes. You drew back from the odd-acting classmate, only to be pulled to the side by the invisible girl herself. Hagakure said as upbeat as her usual self. "Ah, Mina-chan must've been thinking just like me! It's just you seem pretty close, you were even teasing him just a minute ago," You frowned, pretty sure you already explained enough to that, but Hagakure continued comfortingly. "What I mean is, are you Shinso-kun...a thing?"
Somehow you felt the intake of breath around you, but you were too baffled to care.
"A thing...?" You raised a brow. How can you and Shinso be a 'thing'? An object? What sort of question was that? Hagakure was growing a bit exasperated, already knowing you're not getting it. Simultaneously, Mina groaned as Hagakure seemed to fidget uncomfortably.
"Mouuu-! I mean dating (Name)-chan!" Hagakure was shaking her arms from the way her sleeves swished. "Are you dating Shinso-kun, (Name)-chan?"
"..." You clamped up at her question, and for some reason, it felt like everyone was staring now. It was the cavalry battle all over again, as you could feel almost everyone's piercing stares, Uraraka's wide brown eyes were especially intense from where you sat. No, actually, Pikachu's stare was far more intense as his eyes were blown-out in internal shock -Pikachu looked like he had seen a ghost. But...that question...you...
"What!? No, no, w-we're just friends!" You felt the heat rise to your cheeks, as you tried to diffuse the lingering curiosity. You panicked, but your red-face seemed to only further bring a conclusion to the two girls. Sylveon, your only hope, quickly wrapped her ribbon around your hand, calming you a bit as the feeling furthered when Pikachu nudged your stomach with his head curiously after his shock evaporated. You explained much more collectedly. "We...We have been friends since the last year of middle school. He's practically my best friend."
With your explanation, it seems like the lingering question was diffused, why does it suddenly feel more lighthearted around you? As Mina whined in her seat. "Aww...I really thought there was something more to it-!"
"I see..." Tsuyu croaked understandingly, Uraraka sighing as even Iida oddly enough relaxed into his chair.
"Woo..." Kaminari wiped a sweat, relaxing in his seat gratefully. Tokoyami who had crossed his arms behind him let out a hum.
"...Thank goodness..." Momo murmured, Jiro eyeing her in surprise at her notion. Momo added quickly. "A-Ah! It's just...probably not the best time to be considering that, I believe."
"Indeed!" Iida answered. "Dating so early on isn't very becoming! It's better to wait it out."
"You're so strict, Iida." Kirishima replied with a laid-back smile, but even he seemed to have stiffened up before.
You tuned out the rest of your classmate's chattering, leaning back on your chair in embarrassment. Why had they assumed you and Shinso were dating? That wasn't true! You were just friends! But, as you fiddled with your fingers anxiously, you wondered for the first time, if it was even possible for you...to date with-?
Pikachu patted you, bringing you out of your dazed. You shook your head. Right, right, you were talking to Ojiro, who seemed a tad bit awkward now. You waved away all the feelings you got from the odd conversation to try to get the tailed classmate to speak. "Uh, Ojiro-san. About what I asked earlier? Why did you ask that?"
He blinked, looking unsure but you were quick to try to understand. Maybe-? "Oh, if you're wondering why I'm asking you, it's just that Shinso never really explained his quirk to me. I always wanted to ask more, but he always looked so unsure of himself that I couldn't bring myself too." You looked at your purple-haired friend on the stage with pursed lips. "Honestly, I wish he would stop worrying so much about my opinion, really-,"
"Ah-! that's not what I mean," Ojiro waved his hand to wipe off your sudden explanation. Ojiro looked confused before he looked at you seriously. His tail that had been swaying a bit stiffened. "Aren't you... mad? that I told Midoriya about his quirk?"
You stared at him. "...Why would I be upset about that?" You answered just as bluntly, finding it hard to understand what Ojiro was trying to implement. But then it washed over you, the reason you could think of. The only reason that Ojiro would say that would be because-
"Oh, you think I'm upset because you gave out information?" You relaxed as Ojiro's expression visibly shifted when you hit the nail. You hummed. "I mean, it's within your rights. I'm sure Shinso knew about this already anyway," Does he? a sudden thought popped up before you continued. "But he still was able to trick Midoriya-kun it seems."
You chuckle, before leaning over the chair once more to explain more. "It's of course just as within your right to leave the games if you wanted to. Some probably think what you did was pretty silly, but you did what you felt was right, so I can't judge for you that." You tilted your head with a grin, "Am I right?"
Ojiro looked dumbfounded, but for the first time, instead of that polite smile Ojiro used to give you, you saw a different one, a brighter one. A small hue of red dashed his cheeks, but he was quick to turn his head away before clearing his throat. You smiled at him, before trying again. "So...about my question?"
Ojiro didn't respond for a second, emotion flashing in his eyes when he uttered. "...Yes, it's a verbal answer Shinso needs. At least that's what I think." Ojiro finally answered, and a burst of joy filled you. You were correct. You smiled, oblivious to the happy signals Hagakure was giving Ojiro, who shook his head in embarrassed dismissal.
You placed a hand under your chin thoughtfully. "So with that, perhaps Shinso said something that made Midoriya angry...huh, he must've said something pretty bad." You muttered, wondering to yourself as Midoriya continued his walk to the edge ever so slowly.
Shinso Hitoshi
Quirk: Brainwash
Answering his question triggers a brainwashing switch, and he is able to control you. If he doesn't have the will, the brainwashing switch won't turn on.
"It somehow looks like the end huh?" You questioned Pikachu, who looked worriedly. You suppose Pikachu finds both Shinso and Midoriya acceptable enough for him to get worried as you thought out loud. "But is that really it...?"
The match continued dully as Midoriya got closer and closer to the borderline, the anticipation was whether Midoriya would be able to break this trance he got webbed in. If Midoriya gets out of his trance, then physically, Midoriya would most likely win. Unless of course Midoriya gets tricked and brainwashed once more.
3 more steps until Midoriya was out of bounds.
Sylveon cooed as Midoriya's unexpected loss was turning to reality, the forest-haired boy needing just one single step to end the battle. You narrowed your eyes vigilantly.
But then, the amazing happened when a gust of wind rushed out from Midoriya form. You leaned over closer, noticing that the green-haired boy had flicked two of his fingers, causing a small, small is an understatement, gust of wind. And he stopped. He didn't step outside of the line.
"Woah! He got out of it!" Meowth exclaimed with wide eyes, "Was not expecting that!"
The crowd cried as you watched in wonder. Ojiro seemed to relax in relief, as Midoriya was being extra careful to not answer Shinso. Shinso was beginning to look a tad panic now, it made you curious to see how he'll overcome this, but you knew he'll do all it takes to do so.
It wasn't long until Shinso continued trying to talk his way to make Midoriya speak. It wasn't working since Midoriya was now more aware of Shinso's brainwashing tactic. You watched as things began getting a bit physical, Midoriya pushed Shinso's taller form backward, forcing Shinso to move. Shinso however was not going out without a fight, as he punched Midoriya in the face. You frowned, feeling a bit nervous.
That didn't stop Midoriya though, as he still kept up with his advances, pushing Shinso closer to the line only for the purple-head to intercept away with another punch. Shinso tried again, this time pushing Midoriya out of bounds with all his might. Shinso looked desperate, and if you hadn't known any better, he probably sounded just as desperate. Your brows furrow.
Just as Midoriya was about to be pushed back more by Shinso, he hastily grabbed Shinso's arms and slammed him onto the ground. Shinso's body settled on the concrete ground, his legs landing out of bound. The battle was done.
Midnight raises a hand mightily, no hesitation in her movement. "Shinso's out of bound! Midoriya advances to the second round!"
The crowd applauded, cheering for the winner happily. Uraraka was the first to sigh exhaustedly upon Midoriya's win, as Iida was the first to be impressed. Other than Kaminari teasing Bakugo about Midoriya's last move resembling the time Midoriya and Bakugo battled, you tuned out everything. You looked down at the duo on the stage, feeling a sense of relief when you see Shinso rising back up without much trouble. You let out a sigh, rising out of your seat, and putting Pikachu carefully on the seat, the mouse peering up at you curiously.
Hagakure questioned beside you, "Eh? Going somewhere (Name)-chan?" You nodded, hurrying to the stairs. "I'm heading down to say some things, I'll be back! Please guard them!"
You gestured towards the Pokémon, before rushing down to the center stadium, jogging towards where Shinso should be coming back in to.
Mina tilted her head, before nodding to herself eloquently. "Still suspicious...very suspicious."
❧❧❧
"Depending on the results, I might have a chance to get to beat you again today," Shinso stated, his back facing a worried Midoriya, who stayed watching him on the concrete platform. "If not, there's still a chance they'll consider a transfer to the hero course."
Shinso's classmates were standing on the terrace above him, smiling at him heartily. The small murmurs of the heroes talking about him ringing in his heart. "Remember that, even if I failed this time, I won't give up." Shinso's voice spoke volume, ringing with a truth he hopes deeply.
"I'll get in the hero course and get a license. I'll definitely become a greater hero than any of you!"
Midoriya's face morphed determinedly, the green-haired boy pressing his lips together at Shinso's declaration. Midoriya let out a noise. "Hm!" And suddenly he was brainwashed.
Shinso huffed as if finding the situation altogether funny, "People usually have their defense up when they talk to me, keep that up and you'll get the carpet pulled from under you." Shinso smirked at the green-head, "Make sure you don't lose in a shameful way."
Midoriya can't help the privileged feeling rising from his guts, he was truly...lucky. Midoriya smiled widely and yelled out. "Right-!" And
Midoriya never learns, his eyes turning vacant without a second beat. Shinso could only raise a brow, eyeing the brainwashed Midoriya exasperatedly. As Shinso was about to undo his spell, footsteps drew him over.
"You know, I knew you guys could become close," A voice called towards him, Shinso moving his lavender-eyes to the familiar voice he comes to feel eased at, eyeing your form, your chest rising and lowering from the fast-pace you jogged. You smiled at Shinso warmly. "See, you're already teasing him-!"
Shinso usually apathetic gaze slowly relaxed, a lazy small smile making an appearance, as Midoriya was released from his brainwash again. "I'm not teasing him, he's just easy to get tricked."
You tilted your head, "Oh? Is that so?" You chuckled at the surprised Midoriya, giving a small wave to the green-haired boy, who nervously responded, before focusing entirely on the sleep-deprived boy softly. "...good game."
Shinso didn't reply, as the both of you began your walk deeper into the tunnel. You walked side by side, but you kept your gaze at your friend, unable to hold in your smile. You looked ahead, "I was worried there for a second..." Shinso gave you a side-stare, but you mused, "For Midoriya-kun, you were cool you know? I thought for a second Midoriya was done for."
"..." Shinso hummed, but you were sort of used to that response. But to be honest, from the silent treatment Shinso's giving you, you had a feeling that he was...nervous. You watched as the male got silent, standing to a stop which you followed.
Shinso opened his mouth, trying to find the words he wanted to say, only to shut them. He sighed, covering a hand to his face. Your observant eyes softened, slowly making sense of the situation.
"...If you're thinking I'm gonna start treating you differently just because I finally got a chance to see your quirk-then you're wrong."
You hit right on the money, as your softened gaze watched Shinso tense for a moment, the hand covering his face freezing up. You brought out your two hands to clasp his own from blocking his expression, his hand a lot warmer than you anticipated, but even then he avoided looking at you. You tilted your head to finally meet his own eyes, taking in the way he looked cute all embarrassed. "I would never judge you for using your amazing quirk. You know that, right?"
Shinso had avoided his stare for a while now, but finally, he looked towards you. You smiled at him encouragingly, and the air around you felt a tad lighter as he worked a smaller one.
"I..." Shinso looked down, he frowned abruptly. "I can't deny that I'm still jealous of those hero guys." You listened as he listed off. "I was jealous that they were able to get in the hero class in ease, I let it fester and released it on that guy before." As Shinso talked, the load he carried seemed to lighten as he raised his head. "But listening to those guys in my class...and the heroes too..."
You smiled when he let out a small grin, a burst of confidence in his tone as he said. "I'll definitely become a hero, and it starts by the moment I'm entered into the hero course."
Your smile grew before you added. "And the school better! You were amazing out there." But you can't help but add slyly, teasingly addressing. "Though, you could use more practice in fighting...~"
"I heard that..." Shinso voiced with a roll of his eyes. Ah-it looks like the Shinso you've come to know is back. But then he huffed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head, a frowned pulled on his usually very apathetic expression. You waited until he's ready to speak his mind. "...About before, I...never really told you much about my quirk. I was," He struggled, looking into a wall, "Unsure...if you'd still be friends with me before." You raised a brow, but Shinso hesitantly added. "You were the first- the first that had accepted me. That's why I couldn't bring myself to tell you even when you told me yours."
Shinso eyed you uncomfortably, still nervously rubbing the back of his neck before he said uneasily. "...Sorry."
"We have that little faith between us?" You narrowed your eyes at Shinso's cringe, yet there wasn't a trace of upset in your voice as you calmly comforted with a twitch of your lips. "Don't worry, I get it." Shinso raised his gaze to eye you from the corner of his eye, as you nodded with a thin smile. You tilted your gaze to him. "You were also my first real friend too y'know? Never really connected with anyone from my old school..."
Remembering your old classmate wasn't necessarily a sore spot, but you've come to realize that there was definitely a barrier between you and the rest long ago. Of course, you were partly to blame for this, since you didn't make much effort to try to connect with them either, but that's just how things went. You huffed unknowingly.
"That's why I'm going to support you along the way as best as I can. I won't push you away, ever." You happily voiced, surprising your best friend. Shinso grumbled after regaining himself, but you felt the overwhelming thankfulness Shinso was oozing out, as he questioned almost doubtfully in retaliation.
"Are you sure I'm your first friend? I somehow doubt it."
"Well..." You hummed thoughtfully. "If we're counting the Pokémon...you'd be about the 173ish friend I've made." Shinso deadpanned, causing you to burst into giggles.
Then a memory resurfaces, as you let out an 'Oh'. "But now that I think about it, there was this one guy I was sort of close to..." Shinso looked at curiously since you haven't ever brought it up, and for good reason too as you felt a headache appear with more memories resurfacing. You scrunched up your face in repulsion. "Actually, never mind, let's not talk about him. He was a super annoying senior that just kept bothering me, let's leave it like that."
"Hmm, well if you say so," Shinso replied with a small shrug, eyeing the pavement fixedly. Finally, it seems things were finally opened between you two, and the weight heaving down Shinso's was finally gone. You've both accepted each other's truth in full form, all the things you've tried to keep from each other were finally diminished. And you hoped that this brings you closer than you were before.
You then mused with a small chuckle, "Though, thinking about the way you've acted the whole day after the race...it's kind of cute watching you avoid me after you started using your quirk." You teased, giving the general-but-upcoming-hero course student a cheeky grin.
"I wasn't avoiding you..." Shinso grumbled, but you could tell he was embarrassed. You just laughed, as the both of you walked away from the field, the two of you consumed in a lightheartedness that you come to appreciate very much.

.
Meanwhile, Midoriya went straight to the small clinical room in the stadium, sitting in front of Recovery girl who was carefully wrapping his finger with some bandages. The boy was accompanied by the appearance of the large-suited, that draped over his body, All Might, standing by the elders' side. Though he would usually eye his injured fingers contemplatively, heck-with everything that went down on his first scuffle with Shinso he has a reason to contemplate, he can't help but gaze with curiousness at the koala sitting on the desk behind Recovery girl, snoring happily cuddled with his log.
All Might was seemingly also curious of the strange creature but didn't comment on it as Recovery Girl finished up after a kiss. "There, you're all good now." The elder smiled up at the student, before turning slightly to the koala. "Don't you agree, Komala-chan?"
A sleepy grumble was its reply, as Midoriya leaned closer curiously.
"A-Ah, is that (Last)-san's-?"
Before Midoriya could question anymore, flowers were suddenly thrust into his vision, as he flinches back with a loud yelp. He had no idea what just happened, but he now was seeing a tiny creature among the flowers close to his face, tittering joyfully at his surprise as the creature, holding what looked to be a flower wreath, moved back. He could only watch with wide eyes, as he began feeling serene, soothed by the fragrance emitting from the wreath of blossoms, "Oh, I feel nice...relaxed even..."
All Might held out a hand worriedly. "Y-Young Midoriya-?"
"Don't worry, it's just soothing him of his injuries." The nurse eased, as Comfey quickly moved away, steadily floating near Recovery Girl after a mission accomplished.
"Oh, this must be (Last)'s Pokémon." The pro-hero realized, curiously holding out a finger to the flower creature, who cooed curiously at the action, it wasn't long till it nudges his lengthy finger with its head, causing the man to laugh. "Their truly charming."
"Their great company," The elder lightly patted Komala's head, before smiling grandmotherly. "And great helpers."
Midoriya fixed himself from his leisure sitting, waving off the aromatic smell from his system to focus back. His eyes shining excitedly. "Amazing, so this one can calm anyone with its fragrance. So it does suit the side of the doctor." Midoriya wonder-filled eyes comically moved towards the snoring Komala. "I wonder what this one does..."
Midoriya didn't notice the sound of the door opening, as Komala snored leisurely under his scrutinizing gape.
"Well...he doesn't do much other than sleeping, in fact, he literally does his daily activity while he sleeps." You offhandedly commented, surprising the green-haired boy to jump on his chair, the elders chuckling at his antics. You shut the door softly, nodding Recovery Girl's and All Might's way politely. You smiled. "But, there's a saying that his saliva is a medicine for sicknesses, they also help with Insomnia. Though I can't put honest reviews on that, since I only heard this from the doctors of the region he used to live in." You smirked. "Perhaps you want to test it out?"
"(Last)-san!" Midoriya looked to you in surprise as you walked closer. Comfey races towards you, as you wrapped your arms around it happily.
You looked at him, almost making him want to shrink himself into the chair in embarrassment. "Good job out there. I didn't think you would be able to break through the brainwashing."
All Might eye you exasperatedly. "Can't you have some faith in him...?"
"What? Did you think he could get out of the trance?" You replied with a small furrow. All Might begrudgingly agree but didn't outwardly reply to avoid deteriorating Midoriya's confidence. But Midoriya was already on that solemn mode before you came in.
"I couldn't smile at all during the fight with Shinso-kun..." Midoriya added, agreeing subtly at your comment, as he rubbed his injuries. You turned towards him, as everyone shifted their gazes towards him.
"Hmm, well with his cries," All Might frowned, rubbing the back of his head. "It must've been a gut-wrenching fight for you."
"But that doesn't mean I can lose. Is that what it means to aim for the top?" Midoriya questioned, as it sounded like All Might gave Midoriya a pep-talk, a not very good one if he's looking this solemn. You raised a brow at the hero, Comfey hovering over your shoulder.
"You poor thing." Recover girl sadly said, before fixing All Might a glare. "You pressured him again, didn't you?"
With that, the nurse socked a punch in his abdomen, the pro-hero flinching back in pain. You shook your head but decided to ease Midoriya more. You patted his shoulder comfortingly. "Don't be discourage Midoriya-kun, though I was surprised, I honestly had no idea if you were going to be able to beat Shinso after you got brainwashed. It was cool, how'd you move your finger like that?"
Your curiosity served to remind the green-haired friend of yours, his eyes lighting up. "Ah, you just reminded me. Actually All Might, (Last)-san, I saw an illusion."
Right after that, you listened to Midoriya's spiel of this illusion he had when he was being brainwashed. Apparently, he saw about 9 people in his strange vision, at least that's was what he remembered, and it cleared his mind, allowing him to move his fingers briefly. It was a strange vision to conjure, at least that's what you thought when Midoriya said something about seeing someone with All Might's eyes, causing you to pause unsettledly. The green-haired had hoped for an answer from the pro, who would know more about this as it could be something intended for all their quirk's users when All Might's reply was...
"How scary...! What is that?" All Might shivered, looking completely frightened as his dark eyes showed fear.
"Huh?! I thought you'd know!" Midoriya replied baffledly, as this time you commented with crossed arms.
"You don't know? Sounds suspicious if you're asking me."
"W-Well..." All Might quickly explain his understanding. From his point of view, it was more like an imprint attachment, meaning that it's confirmed that Midoriya has One for All. This piece of information interested you, as a quirk that can be passed down is already mildly bewildering. 'One for All', it truly is a curious quirk in your eyes, as All Might explain to Midoriya that the illusion triggered his emotion, allowing him to move his fingers.
Of course, that was not a very satisfying answer to Midoriya, looking disappointed which you could only laugh at.
"Don't let it bring you down!" All Might snapped, before adding. "And don't you need to see the next battles? They could be your next opponent."
"That's right, it should be Todoroki's and Sero's battle now." You affirmed, Midoriya looking ready to jump out of his seat when he remembered. You furthered quickly though, deciding you needed to air it out. "Ah, but before that. It's about Todoroki-san..." Your words brought Midoriya to a mild halt, as you spoke archly.
"He seems quite suspicious of you," Midoriya and the pro flinched, the former appearing completely frightened as you waved it off with a grin. "But don't worry, I talked to him a bit earlier, and kind of explained it as All Might being interested in your similar power-typing powers. Just telling in case he questions more, but I think he already understands."
Midoriya sighed, smiling gratefully. "Thank you (Last)-san, I think last time I talked with Todoroki-kun, I just made him more doubtful."
"It's fine." You replied, patting his shoulders. "I've kept the Pokémon a secret for a long while, so I understand." Your assurance eased Midoriya, and All Might can't help the snickering at the obvious love-struck boy. Recovery Girl side-eyed the pro, probably wondering why All Might is acting like a giggling girl when her ship ends of together, as you grinned, "Well, let's go, I wonder how the battle will go."
"Right. Thank you very much." Midoriya bowed to the two adults, as you did the same, leaving out the door first. As Midoriya was about to follow you right along, a thought suddenly popped out.
You halted, curiously watching him when Midoriya waved his hands urgently. "Ah-uh go on ahead first (Last)-san, I'll catch up! I need to ask something to All Might once more." The pro hero raised a brow, you doing the same before nodding understandingly.
"Alright, I'll see you there then." You watched as Comfey watched you sadly near the green-haired boy. "Play nice Comfey, you too Komala!" You called out, before finally walking out of the nurse's office.
When the door shut closed, you stayed rooted where you stood for a second, a nosy emotion bursting within you. But you reluctantly decided to walk away, knowing that Midoriya would tell you when he wanted to know.
So you walked back to where the bleachers were, your footsteps the only sound in the empty hallway.
❧❧❧
You arrived in the bleachers a second time that day, the group welcoming you leisurely. Just when you were about to head down the stairs to the seats Pikachu and Sylveon were waiting on, their attentive eyes keeping track of your form, Midoriya came rushing over.
He came panting, as you blinked bewilderedly. Did he run all the way here? You furrow your brows, "When you said to catch up, you sure meant it huh?" Midoriya was still panting, but you good-naturedly steadied him towards the seats with a chuckle. He really did race over here. You didn't notice Midoriya kept his eyes on the back of your head apprehensively, as you dragged him around.
Uraraka shot up from her seat, "(Name)-chan, Deku-kun, sit next to me this time!" She waved over, as Iida peered over. "Yes, we save you two a seat!"
You quickly maneuvered him over towards the seat between Iida and Tokoyami, about to get in the seat next to Uraraka when you remembered your two Pokémon sitting on the row above. You look apologetically at the brunette. "Sorry Ochaco-chan, I gotta be with my Pokémon."
"Oh yeah! I forgot!" Uraraka gaped, remembering the creatures. She looked a little down heartened, cause if she hadn't forgotten this detail she would've saved another seat, but she was quick to wave off. "It's okay though (Name)-chan, it's just a seat."
You still felt worried, but nonetheless made your way to the seats with your Pokémon. Was it just you, but was everyone seemingly avoiding Bakugo, who sat on one corner all lonesome while the rest stay on the other. What is he, a lone wolf or something? You raised a brow at Bakugo, your response was probably a growl if your theory was right, as you made your way to the seat beside Sylveon, Pikachu jumping on to your lap easily, you smiled.
A hand reached out to pat Sylveon from the corner of your eyes, as Tsuyu moved her seat to the one beside Sylveon, smiling brightly at you, as you did the same. Jiro followed along, moving to the seat on your right, as Pikachu greeted her cheerfully.
You worriedly eye Uraraka for a second, hoping she wasn't hurt by this only to see her smile brightly, waving off your worried look with an eased grin. Your shoulder's slumped relaxedly as you settled into your seat.
Now that Shinso's and Midoriya's battle is finished, the rest of the first stage battles are about to commence. Todoroki and Sero were up first, and you felt your mood drop remembering your last conversation with the half-and-half quirked student. You shook the uneasiness away though, remembering to forget about it.
It's time to focus and gather as much information on your likely competitors, as you narrowed your eyes. You were ready.
「 Todoroki Shoto vs. Sero Hanta 」
"Alright, the next fight is between these two!" Meowth peered over, eyeing the second battle contenders ponderingly.
"He's capable, but why can't he get rid of his blandness? Sero Hanta from the hero course!" Meowth looked over at the insulted student, before turning his gaze to the other. "Versus, He made it 3rd place for both prelims, you can't deny he's strong! His recommendation for admission was no joke! Todoroki Shoto from the Hero course!"
He felt the incoming twitch of his eye at the familiar candy-cane looking guy, feeling annoyance and sort of pity at him. It's the sad backstory talking to him before he shifted his gaze once more to his opponent.
...huh, Present Mic was right. He was kinda bland.
In a cool way, Meowth supposes, somehow feeling like he needed to correct himself in case you suddenly got telepathic powers.
On the other hand, Meowth almost wanted to snort when he remembered Present Mic's introduction for Todoroki, hyping up the pro hero's son largely. I mean, he could gloat about your ongoing win but then he'd be pretty petty. Not that he'd care or anything of course! It's just that Meowth decided that he'd stay quiet, as he watched the Todoroki kid walk to the stage with a dark outlook, his expression concealed by his two-toned hair. Meowth hummed, 'Wonder what happened...'
Sero and Todoroki prepared themselves, the former stretching his limbs disgruntledly, after being called out on his 'blandness', as the latter stay rooted silently. Meowth began the countdown, "Here we go, ready!" you watched intently on the bleachers, "Go!"
It happened in a second, Sero leisurely stretching his arms to all of a sudden unsheathing his tape, wrapping them around the recommendation student to immobilize him. In quick movements, he began dragging Todoroki out of bounds, using his tape like a string to wave the hot-and-cold quirked boy to the edge of the stage.
"A surprise attack that takes him out of bound!" Present Mic yelled out, Meowth nodding interestedly, "Not bad, not bad-! Mr. Blandness might just win this, go get him!"
You perked, 'Nice...!' You weren't gonna lie, when you saw the match-up, you knew Sero's going to have to toughen it up to win, or at the very least outsmart or be quicker than Todoroki. With this tactic, there's a chance that Sero will win, of course, until you remembered once again, that this was Todoroki you're talking about. He's a recommended student for a reason.
With no qualm at all, Todoroki activated his ice quirk, ice crawling on the concrete all the way to Sero before out of nowhere, all you could see was ice, the stadium shaking upon impact. The chair beneath you trembled, Sylveon yelped, her ribbons interlocking with yours in her fright as the Pikachu pressed his back on to your chest alarmedly. Your mouth gaped open as you made no move.
In a burst of incredible force, Todoroki created a practical pillar of ice- a whole block of ice shot up to the top of the stadium. It might've gone even farther out, as the pinnacle of ice was just leaning over the stadium like it was nothing. It was more like Todoroki brought out all he got to release the biggest pillar he could create, the ice shimmering underneath the sun.
Present Mic and Aizawa were muted, eyes widened in just as much surprise like everyone else. On the other hand, Meowth with wide eyes too, leaned backward away from the iciness in his vision, awing open-mouthed. And he was unable to stop himself from crying out right then. "Woah...now this is raw power...!"
With Sero immobilized, he was so incased with ice he's practically going through hypothermia, was forced to forfeit, meaning Todoroki had won this battle.
As the crowd began chanting their 'don't mind!' to Sero, Todoroki melted the ice slowly, as you watched his form with narrowed his eyes. Midoriya turned around to meet yours, and right there you both agreed, that Todoroki, looked terribly sad.
「 Shiozaki Ibara vs. Kaminari Denki 」
Pikachu snorted.
It's the type of sound that you'd hardly hear from your close companion, but with the biggest sneer and glare directed to the battlefield, you didn't even have to listen to Present Mic's introduction, to know who's down there.
Present Mic introduced, one of class B's 'assassin', a snide remark of it sounding cheesy from Meowth brushed off, and the killing sparkly boy...which you assumed was Kaminari.
"Now, now, we're expecting another flashy battle-!" Meowth rolled his eyes, opening his mouth wide to begin his usual rant when-
"Excuse me!" Unexpectedly, the presenters were shocked by the sudden call out and looked over to see one of the small forms of the contender herself, Shiozaki, raising her hand politely. "May I please interrupt?"
The vine-haired girl appeared solemn, as she asks, "What do you mean by 'assassin'? I came this far by aiming for victory, not to take the life of my opponents." Present Mic looked baffled, before he could apologize, the cat beside him nudging him with a 'Look at what you did', adding salt to the wound. Shiozaki continued. "First of all, the reason why I wanted to enter UA is not for evil intentions, but because I wanted to bring relief to the people." Light shined down on her. You're not entirely sure if it's from heaven or the sun's just weird.
Meowth sneered again, "Hey, hey, do something about this, won't you?"
"Yeah, so I'm really sorry! It was my fault!" Present Mic pleaded, feeling a sweat bead down his neck. You chuckled as the presenter continued to try to plead for forgiveness. The vine-girl always has been a fun character you've come to become acquainted with too. Finally, Shiozaki accepted Present Mic's apology, and the event moved along.
"...I have a feeling," Tsuyu abruptly uttered next to you, making you jump. Jiro and you peered at her curiously. "Kaminari-kun is thinking of asking her on a date."
"H-Huh? Oh, is that so?" You questioned, still shocked by her sudden input. Ignoring the glaring mouse on your lap looking at Kaminari in disdain, you looked at the contenders usually. "Well, Shiozaki-san is pretty. It makes sense."
"Tch-the idiot really does speak that kinda air doesn't he?" Jiro grumbled, shaking her head knowingly. "He's for sure going to get rejected."
"Is that so?" You questioned, making small talk leisurely when Tsuyu pinned you with a sudden hard question.
"Didn't you two go on a date?"
Pikachu gasped so long he looked like he sucked in way too much air. Jiro looked at you with wide eyes, but you were equally baffled.
"What?!- No, we didn't! Well, I wouldn't call it a date..." You answered embarrassedly, reminding yourself that the one you truly had to fear was Tsuyu and her abrupt and hard questions. You felt yourself heat up, he and Kirishima called it a date but was that really a date? I mean you did consider it a date before but No! "It really wasn't a date; it was just two friends hanging out." You worded slowly, before nodding frantically. "yes, that's it! Just a hangout!"
Jiro all of a sudden placed a hand on your shoulder, and you flinched as she looked at you seriously. "He didn't force you on a date or anything right? I'll teach him a lesson if he bothered you that much to hang out with him." You felt the air of annoyance exuding out of her, as she glared at Kaminari from afar, but you quickly waved it off.
"It's really fine! We both agreed on the hangout. It was pretty fun." You said as calmly as you can, even though the smallest part of you couldn't help but want to blurt the incident where he toppled into the fountain. "He's very...uh...outgoing. So it was all chill. It wasn't a date though-!" You quickly added, making sure to be extra clear.
Pikachu sent you a meaningful glare, looking so betrayed. That happened? when, where, and why? You spitefully wanted to ask why Pikachu seemingly had rabies just thinking about Kaminari, but you stayed quiet, simply feeling uncomfortable now in your seat as Tsuyu watched you. Jiro calmed down, her tense shoulders relaxing as she eased the atmosphere. "Hm, alright. But next time you should just ignore the guy. Tell me if he bothers you."
You nodded, almost thankful Jiro said something amidst Tsuyu staring. The frog-girl contemplatively eyed you. "...Well, if you say so." Tsuyu finally answered as you felt a sweat going down. What's with that response? "Then, who do you think will win?"
You perked up straighter, the embarrassment dissipating when you thought about it.
...Well...you see...
"Your face is showing your decision (Name)-chan." Tsuyu commented as you jumped, laughing on instinct. Jiro laughing behind her hand knowingly as you nervously began.
"No, no, it's just...electricity's doesn't do very effectively with grass, y'know?" You articulated, as Pikachu looked smug, pompously figuratively, and literally looking down at Kaminari causing you to raise a brow. "You do know that applies to you too, right?" Pikachu did not hear.
"Well, this is going to end fast..." Meowth yawned as the battle starts, seemingly already knowing how the battle was gonna go.
Kaminari took offense in that, yelling out in confidence from his heart. "I don't know who that cat's hinting on, but It's definitely not gonna be me! Though he's at least right that this match is going to end in a second!" Kaminari's electricity was beginning to go all out. "I'll show you just how cool I can be!"
With no hesitation whatsoever, Kaminari suddenly shot out his electric power, his whole visage encased in his electric power that's just ready to burst. It looked like Kaminari decided to use all he got to end this fight quickly, but you could only wince, you didn't even hide it, as he shouted out his battle move 'Indiscriminate discharge 13,000 volts' outward.
"H-How was that?!" Kaminari yelled out mid-battle, as Meowth yawned again.
"...You know, electric attacks are getting boring right now..." Meowth drawled, smacking his mouth tiredly. He eyed the scene again, "Yeah, boring." Kaminari drooped.
With the electricity voltage out, Kaminari's opponent, who was supposed to take the brunt of this attack, looked at the attack without fear. Simply turning around, Shiozaki with her incredible vine-hair made a blockage of vines before Kaminari, and just like you had expected, it saved her from getting electrocuted.
"HuH?" With that much voltage output, Kaminari was already feeling the dumbification his quirk had enthralled with him, and he's unable to counter when Shiozaki's vine began moving underneath the concrete, encasing the brain-dead Kaminari in her vines. The winner is set! Shiozaki moves to the next round!
"Instant death!" Present Mic rejoices, "Let me say it again! Instant death!"
"Whaddya tell ya," Meowth cockily grins, "A Quick match!"
You could see Jiro ruffle her head beside you almost exasperatedly, and the small congratulations of class B on the other side at their classmate's win. However-you heaved a long, tired sigh.
"Pikachu...please." You called out, Tsuyu watching as Pikachu was already on the seat with Sylveon, the fairy Pokémon blinking perplexedly as Pikachu laughed out his guts. He laughed like that one time he saw Meowth slip into the toilet bowl, the mouse on his back as he loudly cackled. He didn't even try to hold it in at this point, laughing at Kaminari's misery so blatantly you can't help but feel bad as his little feet kicked up and down happily. You snapped, "Pikachu-!"
Your only response was even more deranged Pikachu laughter.
"He's having fun isn't he?" Tsuyu remarked as you grumbled.
"Too much fun."
"I say it's fine." Jiro offhandedly commented, tilting her head with a lighthearted chuckle from the contagious laughter. This was definitely one of the reasons Pikachu and Jiro would get along so well.
Pikachu only stopped when Monoma popped his head out of the small ledge blocking your classes, looking especially haughty and deranged. "What happened? I thought he'd end it in a second. How strange, he is defeated instead. Isn't class A supposed to be better than class B? HAHAHA-!"
"See, enough laughing," You ignored Monoma to scold the bewildered Pikachu, "Or not I'm gonna call you a Monoma 2.0 for sounding like him."
"Pika!?" Pikachu clamped his mouth shut after that, and Monoma didn't even have time to be offended as Kendo knocked him out effectively. You let out a huff, about to relax in the needed silence, only for your ears to be assaulted by incomprehensible muttering.
"Kaminari's quirk is strong, but Shiozaki was fourth place in the entrance exam. Is it a vine? The binding types are strong after all. I hardly see people break free-," You blankly watched the back of Midoriya's head, the boy muttering every per second as his hand danced on his oddly charred book. You weren't the only onlooker of Midoriya's mumbling, as everyone side-eyed him uncomfortably. You huffed a chuckle, reaching forward with Pikachu and...
Midoriya stopped all action as you placed a plaint Pikachu on his head. "There, I put the Pikachu on the Deku-tree." Midoriya bewilderedly gazed up at you. You gave an eye-smile, "Your muttering Midoriya-kun."
"A-Ah sorry!" Midoriya fumbled, before stilling once Pikachu grumbled at the movement. Maybe you should do this more often, as it really gets Midoriya to slow down. "I-I got excited since this is a chance to see the quirks in the other class."
"It's no sweat- though..." You skimmed his notes, pressing your lips together observantly. "To answer question no. 8, Shiozaki-san vines have great mobility, that she can manipulate the vines for an even farther range. Perhaps...a whole classroom right about now, if that helps."
Midoriya blearily glanced at his analysis notebook before turning to you. Doing it a couple more times dazedly, he perked ecstatically when your words caught up. "Yes! That really helps!"
Uraraka, who was sitting two seats away from Deku, watched your chattering forms questionably. She looked a little uneasy, which you took note of. She didn't look that troubled just before, as you questioned her worriedly- only for her to evade with a hesitant answer before questioning Deku about his quickness on making new strategies.
As Deku and Uraraka began chattering, to brunette animatedly listening to Midoriya gush about his notes, you tilted your head with a raised brow, watching her form with unease.
「 Iida Tenya vs. Hatsume Mei 」
"You know," As the fourth match was about to begin, Meowth sprouted thoughtfully. "I think I deserve a chance to do the introductions," Meowth ended, giving Present Mic a look, "And with that trouble on the last intro, I think I'm way more deserving!"
Present Mic looked like he wanted to complain, but Meowth was already clearing his throat, eyeing the notes with squinted eyes before yelling out. "Alright, here on our right-here comes stickler for rules, the true robocop himself, Iida Tenya from the Hero course!" Present Mic already felt his life draining away, as Meowth pointed to the other side. "Versus...on our left, this lady that's bringing way too many items she might as well be pitching for a sales pitch, Hatsume Mei from the support course!"
"What's with that introduction!?" Present Mic made a commotion, but Meowth was hearing none of that when...
You felt your eyes drifting to Iida buckling an item around himself, strapping it around his waist. It looked to be a support item, and a feeling of dread begins to wash over you once you took notice. Pikachu stayed on Midoriya's head, as Sylveon cooed worriedly. Tsuyu noticed your apprehension. "Hmm? something wrong (Name)-chan?"
"Ah...it's nothing." You're lying. It is something. This was Hatsume. THE Hatsume, y'know? The one who looked inside Arcanine's mouth without a brief sense of hesitation. Tsuyu merely tilted her head, giving small glances to Sylveon before petting her, when you said. "Just have a weird feeling..."
"Weird feeling...?" Jiro commented, twisting her ear-jack leisurely as the three of you moved your gazes to the battle at hand.
Although originally, Iida isn't supposedly supposed to be allowed wearing an item, as he would need to request it beforehand like per se you and Aoyama, yet Iida being Iida, began sprouting out about Hatsume's sportsmanship. And all you can say is...Iida, press X for Doubt.
Midnight was moved and agreed easily. While Present Mic and Aizawa discussed offhandedly that since they, Midnight and Iida, both agreed, there's nothing that can be said and done. Meowth simply curled himself, "Weird, but nothing we can do! So let's see what this battles all about!"
And once it began, everything you feared came too late. You watched almost confoundedly as Meowth choked, mouth gaping open with a growing smile getting larger and larger each passing minute. "OH WOW, I hit the nail on the head just right didn't I?!"
Present Mic seemed even more baffled. "What is this...?" While Aizawa grumbled right next to him, covering his face with his bandaged arm. "She set on selling her products."
And just as they said, Hatsume began selling out her support items, as you watched Iida make a fool out of himself under the whims of the support items he was equipped on. Hatsume explained each item in earnest, using all she got as Iida flailed in the background of it all. You wanted to feel bad, yet another part of you just wanted to laugh. You shook your head, "Oh Hatsume-san, you're amazingly dedicated aren't you?" You hummed under your breath, your gaze glazing. "I suppose when it comes to these things, you and I truly aren't so different..."
On the corner of your eyes, you could see Midoriya stiffening a bit after your phrase. You made no move to comment on it as Meowth shouted out ecstatically, arrogance growing rapidly. "At this point, I might as well move out of the city and become a fortune-teller, cause I'm just that good!"
You rolled your eyes at Meowth's haughtiness, laying back relaxedly. Might as well get comfortable as Hatsume continued her extravagant advertising, a part of you already knowing that this was going to take a while.
After 10 whole minutes of sales pitching, Hatsume finally steps out of bounds, wiping sweat off her head forehead contently. And with that, Iida goes to the second round. Taken advantage, Iida was not happy. In fact, he was ranting as much as he could as Midoriya worried, writing down everything he saw in his notebook. And within those moments, your eyes drifted to Uraraka, who stood up without a word, leaving the bleachers with an uneasy expression.
You moved to follow, worry blooming in your heart, when Tsuyu halted you, reaching a hand to yours calmly. The frog-girl interlaced her hand with yours hearteningly.
Tsuyu ribbit, giving you a calm look. "Give her a minute."
You wanted to protest, but looking at Uraraka's disappearing back as she walks into the tunnel affirmed that Tsuyu was right. You could only nod uneasily, clenching your hand in her hold as you eyed down Uraraka's left behind ice tea, the ice melting ever-so-slowly.
「 Aoyama Yuuga vs. Mina Ashido 」
'Aoyama is more of a long-range shooter, but with his inability to release his lasers too long, it won't be long until he breaks...' You mused quietly, brushing your hand underneath Sylveon's fur, the creature purring contentedly. 'Mina's overall best ability is her physical prowess. She can however be a bit at a disadvantage with how her quirk is required to be used carefully...'
You watched the battle as Mina jumped over the lasers, using her acid as skates to slide easily on the concrete. Aoyama kept his attack on the corner, making sure to aim it at the pink-skinned girl continuously. For most, it continued like that, until finally, Aoyama breaks, his stomachache finally coming forward in full-throttle.
Mina, using this to her advantage, hurled her acid on to his shiny belt, ruining it, before giving the blonde a sucker punch from right under his chin. Aoyama was effectively knocked-out, and Mina moved to the 2nd round with ease.
"Aoyama is knocked out! It's Ashido's indisputable, easy victory!" Present Mic cheered, as Meowth nodded with a lax smile. "It was a pretty okay fight; I'll give that out."
You smiled, congratulating Mina from your seat. Just as you expected, Mina took the win, as you hoped Aoyama wouldn't take the loss too harshly, as there's still hope you'll meet them in the supplementary round.
「 Yaoyorozu Momo vs. Tokoyami Fumikage 」
This was one fight you were sort of excited to see. Both Momo and Tokoyami having quirks that truly stand out in class, rather, they were quirks you would love to learn more about. They were fascinating, and the two students were pretty darn good at using them.
Sylveon had now taken to nuzzling your legs, almost getting into your lap causing Tsuyu and Jiro to coo at the adorable act as you fixed a straight face, knowing that for this battle, it all comes down to who was quick-witted enough.
You leaned forward, eyeing Pikachu who continued staying on Midoriya's head all while Midoriya was absorbed in his notes, making you wonder if he was used to Pikachu's presence now since he acted like the weight was nothing before you moved your gaze to the contenders.
The battle was quick, Tokoyami released Dark Shadow who began attacking without a second to waste. Yaoyorozu was short on the move, but she was able to create a shield just in the Knick of time once Dark Shadow pushed her back. You worried as Momo was about to create another item with her free hand only to be attacked on her shield a second time by the dark being, the shield thrown out of her hand due to that.
In another quick haste, Momo quickly created another shield, as Dark Shadow once again slammed Momo back on her shield, not hurting her, but not preventing her from standing her ground as she skidded backward. Then Dark Shadow stopped, all the attacks from Tokoyami's end ended, and Momo prepared herself to strike by creating a pole when...
"Yaoyorozu!" Momo flinched, as Midnight pointed to the battleground, "Out of bounds!" Momo looked down at where she was standing and finally noticed one of her foot was outside the line. "Tokoyami advances to the next round!"
As cheer applauded, Tokoyami bowed down respectfully to his battle contender, before leaving the stadium without a word. Present Mic was quick to boast, "A complete victory. Undeniably so!" Meowth was already lying down on the desk lazily, resting his head on his propped hand while his eyes observed the show. The cat's eyes narrowed pensively at the students when Present Mic continued his speech. "Tokoyami's Dark Shadow-! Is that the-OUCH!"
"Quit it, it's noisy!" Meowth had lazily brought out his free paw to pinch the noisy presenter, Present Mic recoiling in pain as the Meowth didn't even move, not even moving his gaze from the contenders below. His unbothered visage seemed relaxed, but that didn't stop Meowth from berating Aizawa in annoyance. "Hey, you! How do you keep this loudmouth shut?! Shouldn't you know?!"
Aizawa barely batted an eye under the bandage, silent in his staring as Present Mic was still brooding over his pinched arm. Aizawa let out the hardest sigh in the world, Meowth could hear the pain. "Do you think he would be this loud if I knew...?"
"Yikes, sorry man." Meowth can't help but sigh too, completely understanding as Present Mic could only grumble a loud 'Hey!'.
Meanwhile, back with you and the rest of the class, Midoriya was awing about Tokoyami's ability to Ojiro, who was leaning down to listen. You did so too, Pikachu almost wordlessly landed on his front legs to look down at Midoriya's notes. "Tokoyami's amazing, he aimed his attack solely on Yaoyorozu's shield, and pushed her out of bounds."
It truly did appear so, and you can't help but applaud Tokoyami's for his well-thought-out strategy. But even then, you can't help yourself from watching Momo's sad visage, body slumped as she walked out. You frowned a bit-Yaoyorozu must be frustrated.
You blinked when Sylveon nudges you cutely again, and you were left turning your attention to her to give her your undivided attention, not noticing Midoriya peering to look at you restlessly.
「 Kirishima Eijirou vs. Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu 」
"Oh, it's the Spiderman meme dudes." Meowth lazily ratted out, grinning a little happy at the familiar faces. "They're so alike that they're basically two peas in a pod!"
Kirishima looked drearily into the ground, frustratingly clenching his fist. "I-I think he's doing this on purpose."
Meowth raised his hand in euphoria. "Oh, Oh, or like those soap opera of twins that were separated at birth-!" Meowth happily cheered, "Yup, yup, I like this saying better!"
Kirishima groaned, pained right in the chest. "Yup, he's doing it on purpose..."
Strangely Tetsutetsu was quite different with the sentiment, more pumped up than hurt by Meowth's comparisons. You yourself can't help but chuckle at the similarity that just keeps popping up. But you frowned, feeling bad for you were not going to be watching Kirishima's and Tetsutetsu's first battle. The reason that that was cause...
You thought you waited it out long enough, as you eyed Uraraka's left ice tea contemplatively. After all, right after this is her match, with Bakugo nonetheless.
You nodded to Tsuyu, who understood immediately upon looking at you, as this time, she didn't stop you, instead looking to be cheering you as she smiled brightly. Jiro was wordless, but you had a feeling she knew what was happening as she sent you a small firm nod.
You got up, gently plucking off Pikachu from Midoriya's now silent form. The boy peered behind you, and you knew he was thinking the same thing as you were once you saw his uncertain frown. You raised the quiet mouse, the creature blinking curiously. "Maybe he'll cheer her up..."
Midoriya's eyes lit up, the green-haired boy nodding his head amiably. With no words needed, both you and Midoriya, who quickly got off his seat to follow, walked up the stairs, Sylveon joining you upon your wave as you both set off to cheer for a friend who has the jitters.
It wasn't too hard to find Uraraka, as she seemed to be contemplating by herself about the battle she was pitted against in the break room. Iida had also just gotten into the room, a little before you two as both the brunette and the speedster looked at you two in surprise.
"Ah Deku-kun, (Name)-chan...Weren't you watching the match?" Uraraka looked baffled, but you were already making your way to the seat next to her, your Pokémon trotting after you as per usual. You handed her a bottled water, encouragingly grinning.
"Drink up!" Uraraka blinked down at it, taking the offer half-heartedly as her hands shook from all her pent up fear. After drinking, she appeared better, smiling appreciatively which you answered back in your terms. Pikachu hobbled onto your lap, patting Uraraka's thigh comfortingly, as Sylveon pawed her from the other side.
Uraraka giggled, "You two are really cute-!" It was nice that she was able to smile. With the tension being eased down by the brunette's giggles, Midoriya spoke up softly.
"Most of the matches ended quickly." Midoriya started, clutching his notebook by his side before you chipped in easily. "Yup, It's Kirishima and Tetsutetsu's battle right now."
Uraraka's hands that were folded on the table clenched, as fear made an appearance again. You paused once you noticed the action, as she says slowly. "Then...the next match is about to begin..."
"...Pi?" Pikachu squeaked, but you silently hushed the being. Uraraka's fear visible to the eyes of the Pokémon too, as everyone within the room, sensed the unease. Iida added, a little strain hinting in his voice.
"Well-! Even if it's a battle with Bakugo-kun, he wouldn't cause an all-out explosion against a girl-,"
"He will." Midoriya bluntly rejected Iida's proposal, causing the 3 of you to flinch involuntarily. You can't even add anything to that cause you knew that's true, you thought with your brows furrowed exasperatedly as Midoriya continued. "Everyone is aiming to be number one for their dreams," It felt like Midoriya had glanced at you, as you looked down at Sylveon pensively. "Even if it wasn't Kaachan, no one would hold back." You frowned, but you did.
For most parts, Midoriya quickly shifted his words to encourage Uraraka with something he decided he could do to help, as he held up his notebook, the one he's been writing upon the entire duration of the battles, he proposed a tactic to fight Bakugo. You stayed silent in this conversation, watching as Uraraka, unexpectedly, rejects it.
"Your...amazing Deku-kun, you're constantly improving." Uraraka turned her eyes to the beige table, smiling to herself. "At the Cavalry battle, I thought it'd be better to team up with friends, but now that I'd think about it, I think was just trying to rely on both you and (Name)-chan." She turned her direction to you appreciatively. "(Name)-chan and the Pokémon...are all so cool and amazing. I'm always awed but I felt like I couldn't compete with that...Maybe that's why I looked for you right away on the Cavalry, (Name)-chan."
You pressed your lips, as Uraraka voiced. "I know I don't have to worry, there's still a small chance for me to end up in the supplementary round...but I don't think I would feel good if I don't try to win this battle." She looked thoughtful, brushing her padded fingers onto Sylveon's ears, "That's why, when I heard Iida challenge you both," Your eyes twitched remembering something. "I became embarrassed of myself."
Uraraka looked to be readying herself for a battle of a lifetime, as she made her way to the door. "That's why I won't take that. Everyone is working towards their future," 'Future' You thought to yourself wistfully. "That means everyone is a rival. And so," You raised your eyes to meet Uraraka's shaky ones, her hand shaking, but she still gave a thumbs up. "Let's meet in the final round!"
"..." Everyone was silent, awed by Uraraka's determination as you leaned back pensively. You hummed, grabbing your friends' attention to say with a stern look. "Then," You smiled lightly, "...Give that wild beast hell."
Uraraka's chocolate eyes widened, but she cracked a huff of a laugh that came out easily. She nodded fervently, "But of course!"
You nodded, as things finally seemed to look better for Uraraka. As you pulled yourself away from the seat to follow Uraraka out. Your brows furrow, as you just had to add to this misunderstanding. "Oh and Iida-kun, please stop challenging me about giving out papers again." Iida bristles in surprise as you awkwardly finish. "It's embarrassing enough as it is."
"What's so embarrassing about that?! Giving out papers is a wise job as a student. Not to mention you're a teacher's assistant as well-!"
"That's why it's embarrassing. Iida-kun! Do I really need to add I accidentally fell asleep for a second?"
Iida gasped ghastly, "You slept?!"
"For a second-!"
"Uh...Guys, this isn't the right time..." Midoriya interrupted awkwardly while you and Iida bantered about the singular situation that just keeps popping up. Midoriya blinking perplexedly when Uraraka had to huff.
"Yeah, I was having a serious moment guys! I'm literally about to face death!"
"U-Uraraka-san?!"
「 Uraraka Ochaco vs. Bakugo Katsuki 」
"Oh (Name)-chan, you just missed Kirishima's battle end," Jiro called out, as you sat between her and the frog-girl, Sylveon once again taking space between you and Tsuyu. "It was a pretty hardcore battle. It ended in a tie."
You chuckled, "Of course it did. What did I even expect?"
Though you didn't get to watch Kirishima and Tetsutetsu battle it out, you would still be able to watch their arm-wrestling match to decipher the winner. It still too bad, as maybe you should try to find a copy of their earlier battle later on.
Tsuyu croaked, bringing your attention back to the next battle. "The next one is the most unsettling pair." You felt yourself sigh, feeling the worries weighing down on you as Jiro rubbed her arms in her uncertainty. "I don't even want to watch this..."
"...She'll be fine." Your utterance got their attention, but you didn't look away from the two on the battleground. "Bakugo-san's strong and wild. There's no denying that. But Uraraka's prepared." You leaned back, narrowing your eyes, the worry still holding on. "...She just needs to find a way to catch him off guard..."
"Here we go, the eighth and last battle of the first round!" Present Mic cheered, as Meowth seemingly had gotten all of his energy back. Probably from that energy drink he drank from the vending machine, but Meowth's eyes glinted interestedly.
"Odd match-up there, but I guess that's what it makes it fun," Meowth commented, nodding his head as if to answer his assertion. "I wonder how would this one go...?"
"He's been famous since Middle school, that's not a very respectful look...Bakugo Katsuki from the Hero course!" Present Mic enthusiastically began, only to whisper in a more supporting fashion. "Versus, I want to root for her, Uraraka Ochaco from the Hero Course!"
"And you call me bias," Meowth added teasingly as the two competitors stood in front of each other seriously.
'The important thing for Ochaco-chan is to touch Bakugo-san. Once she uses her quirk on him, it would be quite a game over for him. However,' You folded your hands close to your face, absorbedly eyeing the coarse boy on the stage. 'Bakugo won't hesitate to avoid Ochaco, even if it means attacking an explosion to her...How will she distract him enough to touch him?'
As the battle was prepared to commence, you leaned forward on the edge of your seat. You were ready to see what's to come.
Right at the moment, the battle begun, Uraraka had raced over to Bakugo, aiming to float Bakugo as swiftly as she can. At this moment, she needed to dodge Bakugo's incoming attack, only for her to get hit frontward without hesitation. Uraraka was slammed back.
Jiro flinched right next to you, while Tsuyu commented, "You have no mercy against a girl, Bakugo-chan..."
Due to Bakugo's attack, the stage was covered in smoke, rendering Bakugo's sight from completely seeing Uraraka. Though once he caught sight of a hint of her jacket, Bakugo went for the punch, only for him to find a jacket without its owner. You perked, 'Nice distraction!' as Uraraka went for the kill, only to once again be deflected by Bakugo's reflexive defense, explosion aimed right at her.
And that's how the battle continued. Uraraka going for the kill with every chance she could get, only for her to be slammed back with an explosion from Bakugo- herself, and the concrete of the stage flying off in a heaped mess. Jiro closed her eyes frantically, as Tsuyu worriedly called out to the brunette. You, however, stayed silent, watching the battle without a blink.
"Woah, it's a battlefield down there," Meowth commented, not even gonna hide the fact he felt like shrinking. "There's not a bone in me that wants to be down there honestly..."
"I-I can't watch this-!" Jiro cried out when you said.
"No, Jiro-chan, look." Your voiced pulled the girl away from her uncertainty, as you gazed at something higher than the battle taking place. You awed, smiling at her. "Just keep looking."
As this battle continued, it wasn't long until the pro's on the bleachers begun feeling like Bakugo was being too harsh. The booing began, and Meowth could only move away in surprise when Aizawa elbowed Present Mic in the face before the loudmouth could say anything. "Was that a Pro that said he's playing? How many years have you been a pro?"
Meowth blinked blankly as Aizawa continued his berating. "If you really meant that, then just go home. Go and look for information on changing career!" You raised a brow, almost feeling bad for the pro being slandered, but kept listening as Aizawa explained. "Bakugo is on guard because he acknowledges the strength of his opponent that has come this far. He is trying his best to win, that's why he isn't holding back."
Your brows furrow at Aizawa's words, taking in the careful Bakugo watching his opponent like an animal on guard. You mused Bakugo's action for a moment, watching his expression interestedly.
Have they not notice yet? you wondered, tilting your head upward with a smile. It was a reckless idea, but you can't help but be more interested in the battle as Uraraka finally revealed her next plan of action.
In the sky, floating just a few inches above the stadium, stood all the debris, all the concrete that had been blasted by Bakugo, floating on the sky like meteors in space. Uraraka began executing her plan, releasing all of the floated rocks as they showered down by the flow of gravity.
"Meteor shower in midday, what are the odds?" Meowth compliment with a whistle, as Present Mic, bristled next to him, copying his words.
"It's a Meteor shower!?"
Aizawa grumbled agitatedly after his speech. "You just noticed?"
Uraraka raced towards Bakugo, who eyed the falling concrete availingly. There was bound to be an open path for the brunette to touch him upon his distraction, she thought, as Uraraka got closer to her target, locking her gaze on him as Bakugo raised his arm towards the sky of concrete. And just like that, he released his quirk, explosion blasting towards the rocks in a large blast that created enough wind impact to throw Pikachu backward into his seat.
And that was it, all the concretes were obliterated. Uraraka's plan did not succeed. And for the next parts of the battle, you watched with a furrow in your forehead as Uraraka kept desperately up, trying to stay steady on her feet to not give up. Not yet!
But she stumbled, left crawling on the ground tiredly.
The winner was already determined, and Uraraka left the scene being carried by the robots to Recovery girl. But amongst all that, you could only utter one thing. "...It looks like...I might be fighting against Ochaco-chan today," Jiro and Tsuyu turned to you. "At the battlefield, the very least."
You gazed down at your hands, smiling tightly. "Welp, it looks like it's my turn..."
❧❧❧
Unlike the first time, you stayed on your seat to watch Kirishima and Tetsutetsu's arm-wrestling competition, the two fiercely up to par in their match. It was invigorating to see the two unblemished in strength, or Kirishima's words 'Manly', as the two kept tight grips on each other's hands, muscles clenching.
In the end, With one final strength, Kirishima was able to last longer than Tetsutetsu and slam down said arm into the pseudo-table.
You clapped, cheering, cupping your hand into a mock-microphone. "Congrats Kirishima-kun, Nice Tetsutetsu-kun!" They probably couldn't hear you, but you couldn't help yourself as the duo shook on it, seemingly in their brotherly world as Midnight fangirled happily by their side.
You didn't comment on Midoriya and Uraraka, who both entered the seating area hastily, the two, coming back from the break room which Uraraka had decided to reside in after her battle. From looking at Ochaco's eyes, it looked like she had cried a bit from her loss, but underlying that, there was a determination that couldn't be thawed so easily. The brunette looked at you intensely, fixing you a nod which you returned, as the duo sat down in their seats silently. Midoriya sending you a small nod of his own, which you only wave off.
As Midoriya went to check up on Uraraka, Uraraka had been feeling a little glum, clutching her phone tightly in her hands. She was pretending to be overjoyed mostly, which honestly just made the green-haired boy more worried for his friend, who continued her act vigorously.
"Y'know, most of the times down there, I was thinking how you wouldn't give up." Midoriya jolted at Uraraka's clear words, as she pondered with a quaint smile. "But I mostly thought, Look, (Name)-chan, wasn't I cool?" She articulated loudly, pumped up. "Did I give Bakugo-kun the hell she told me to? Things like that..."
Uraraka giggled awkwardly, as she looked up. "I don't know why...but I wanted to at least be able to hear (Name)-chan say, Yeah, you gave him hell! Y'know?" Uraraka voiced, before unsurely eyeing down at her phone. Her mouth crumpled tightly, as she gripped the cellphone unconsciously. "After all she said to encourage me...I just don't know anymore..."
Uraraka looked sadly down, feeling self-conscious, Yet that didn't dither Midoriya, who knew just what to say.
"...(Name)-chan told me to tell you this." Uraraka blinked up at her friend, wondering what he would say. His expression relaxed, a smile growing. "...See you in the field, I won't go easy when we meet..."
Uraraka paused, her hold on her phone loosening. She gazed at Midoriya in confusion, almost like she wasn't hearing right. Midoriya's eyes glimmered, "The supplementary round hasn't been announced yet. Do you want to listen to them with the rest?"
"..." The brunette eyed one more time at her phone, contemplatively looking at the piece of plastic before she nodded her head firmly, eyes glazing. When Midoriya went out first, he did not comment when a few tears fell from Uraraka's eyes, as she wiped them away resolutely. Her footsteps following right after him.
You forced a small grin at Midoriya, as finally, the supplementary round is about to be announced. Meowth looked giddy once more as Present Mic quickly began his speech. "The first round winners have all be announced!" Present Mic started, "Now that we made it this far, I'm sure everyone knows what's gonna go next right?"
Meowth yelled out before anyone else could. "Yeah, it's finally time for the supplementary rounds!"
As usual, the cheers began, and Meowth was just ecstatic to get you into the stage. "Pretty sure you all remember, but one of the contenders had earlier volunteered to enter the extra round," You sigh, muttering about embarrassment which made Tsuyu pat your back comfortingly, "With this, we need 3 more contenders, from your choices, to take their place back into the field!"
Another round of applause arises, as Present Mic presented the gist. "Under your chairs, we've provided these little remotes that you can all vote to everyone on this screen." The screen flashed to faces of everyone who had not passed the first round. "Please click the number of the student that you want to see more of, or would like to advance! We'll give a few moments for everyone to vote now before we start the supplementary round!"
The crowd cheered as the crowd got right into action. You sighed, so it starts now. As the crowd of pros begun voting their picks, you turned your attention to your two playful Pokémon, watching them tease each other as a distraction. Your first 1 vs 1 battle will commence shortly, and you felt a wave of uncertainty washing you.
You can't fail this. You just can't.
You fixed your blank stare at the Pokémon again, mentally preparing yourself, oblivious to the knowing stare from Midoriya, his eyes unable to hide the concern lingering in them. The boy frowned down at his notebook, his earlier conversation with All Might recurring vividly, repeating what had been said again and again.
.
.
.
Midoriya waited after hearing your footsteps disappear, standing in the middle of Recovery girl's office as All Might place a hand on his hip, tilting his head puzzlingly. "So, what is it, my boy? Your sort of losing your chance to talk to her alone now, you know that right?"
"W-What are you saying All Might?" Midoriya frantically cried out, not amusing the lanky hero, as he began again, stuttering. Recovery Girl watching him earnestly without a bad thought of him. "I-It's about the thing...y'know, the thing we talked about before?"
All Might didn't catch up that quick, but Midoriya was already clearing up with an embarrassed ramble. "About (Last)-san...you said you would tell me her problem?" The pro's visage lightened up in realization, but Midoriya wasn't finished. "I know I should just ask her, but I have this feeling she won't tell me. I know it isn't right to pry but I'm just worried and-,"
"Prince Nonsense is back at it again-!" All Might was already snapping Midoriya in the head lightly, the boy yelping in surprise. Recovery girl frowned, snapping at the teacher for harming his student, causing the pro to reel back cautiously. All Might really needs to remember that Recovery girl is around. But besides that, the pro sighed tiredly, almost unsure with his next words. "...You know that young (Last) has been working hard to get the Pokémon some positive recognition right?"
Midoriya nodded firmly, readying his heart for anything drastic. He knew that you were doing your best in the Sports Festival with the aim to help the Pokémon, and though he was sure you would be doing this under any other circumstances, it's beginning to feel as if the stake was high in your case like you absolutely cannot fail. Why is that? He wondered, especially after your declaration and your volunteer to fall back to the secondary stage.
It doesn't make sense. Your declaration makes it sound like you needed to win. But choosing to join the stage where you'll have the least chances to win? It's contradictory! If you wanted to win, why didn't you ignore that? If you wanted to win, why does it seem like your faking it? If you wanted to win, why did you let him win that first race?
"...About two weeks ago," All Might began carefully. "A few officials and police came to discussed with young (Last) about the Pokémon, Aizawa accompanied her." This captured Midoriya's full attention, not like he wasn't paying attention already, but that awakens his worriedness. The teacher assured. "Don't worry, (Last) was only moderately in trouble for showing the Pokémon, they let her off since they were already planning on releasing the news."
Midoriya sighed, but he knew it was just the start as All Might wasn't finished. All Might admit steadily, "But that wasn't the real reason they came over." Midoriya looked at Recovery Girl as if to ask for her input, but the elder only sighed sadly, shaking her head.
"Poor dear..." She muttered as All Might looked at him with dark eyes. Midoriya felt his entire being shiver in worry, as the pro's next word made his eyes widen.
"That day, the police and officials were there to collect the Pokémon active in USJ under the pretense that the Pokémon in USJ were deemed dangerous." All Might's expression turned serious. "And there was no telling when (Last) would see them, ever again."

Hello everyone! I'm back with another chapter! Finally, we got right into the 1 vs 1, though reader hasn't gone through with hers yet that's for the next chapter.
Honestly speaking, this chapter was pretty anime-centric, as this chapter was definitely mostly about everyone's battle before the reader's battle will commence next. Though a part of me thought that maybe cutting these parts would be better, I couldn't really miss an opportunity to write about Meowth's involvement in his presenting! Not gonna lie, it was the highlight of writing this chapter! For the romance, it was pretty Shinso, Midoriya, and Uraraka based this time. I'd like to write more interactions, but with the battles, it's kind of difficult to do so hehe. But! Readers kinda starting to realize the 'love' in the story, squint at the word 'Kinda', so we're getting some progress! Writing the small interactions with Ojiro, Tsuyu and Jiro were honestly just cute little tidbits I added.
I feel like we're moving things along nicely, and hoped you liked the little plot twist at the end. So yeah! I was pretty sure I kept on hinting at Readers odd behavior, her sudden burst of insecurities, and finally it settles here! God, it took me forever, but yes, the reader actually in more of a crisis than I let on. Other than that, since we're getting into the supplementary round, I'll be making battles between different students, but I'll probably gloss over them without getting to in detail. I hope you enjoy this chapter! I'll try to finish the next one up as soon as I can.
Another lovely fanart! The person who sent this wanted to keep things anonymous! Once again, thank you for the fanart~! I really can't stress how much I appreciate these pieces of art I get! I'll continue doing my very best for this story!
