❦ Thirty Eight

Recap: In the last chapter, after having the odd encounter with that Emboar, you watched the fascinating battle between Midoriya and Todoroki, who both gave it their all, ending it all with Todoroki's victory. Fast forward through all the second-round battles, Reader wins a wide victory against Ibara, facing the incredibly skilled-vine girl with Pikachu, who turned to his chonky gigantamax form as a crowd ending. The Sports festival is heading to its 3rd round, with only 5 runners, who is going to take the top? At the very least, time to find out who's the next person you'll be up against!

❧❧❧

There you stood, next to the classmates that have made it just as far as you have. Standing in a horizontal line with Midnight standing before you all, it sorts of feels like you're going to get honored an award already.

You stood between Todoroki and Iida ironically, frowning a little at being so close to the Todoroki which you were feeling a little bit awkward with after your horrendous ending of a conversation. You leaned a little closer to Iida from the uncomfortableness, both seemingly not noticing this motion as Midnight gestures to the 5 of you.

"Here are our top 5!" The cheers were, as usual, hype, with the crowd seemingly already excited to see how the battles will commence. Tokoyami stood beside Todoroki, while Bakugo was on the other side of the bird-faced boy, looking dreadfully horrible with an expression of a gremlin. Everyone looks decent, but Bakugo had to make it look out of order- he isn't the wild one of the group for nothing. You can't help but think he's like the kid in that one family photo everyone's trying to do together but hates photos so he makes the absolute weirdest faces only to come to dread it once they're older. The thought made you huff a breath of laughter, Pikachu curiously probing as Iida sent you a raised-brow look. Midnight begins her explanation. "Since our top players are currently in odd numbers, we decided to use a mini-game to decide who gets to pass..."

Midnight's face got serious, gleaming heavily. "And that would be through..." She drags dramatically, prevailing the wait to anticipate the competitors and the crowd. The 5 of you waited to see what was going to happen, Bakugo actually straightened a little, his sour expression still intact as Iida's breath slightly hitched from his anticipation. You saw Tokoyami shift in place, while Todoroki stayed effortlessly calm. You took a deep inhale.

The air was silent.

And just like that, Midnight's face switched happily, clutching tiny ropes in her hand like it was a trophy. "A random drawing-! Alright, who's up first!"

There was a small pause from everyone's baffled looks, well Todoroki never looks baffled cause he's Todoroki Shoto but you can tell when the term 'mini-game' came up, this wasn't what anyone was considering.

You're pretty sure you could hear the synchronize thoughts of all your classmates on the bleachers. 'So normal-!'

"WHY DO WE HAVE TO DO THIS?!" Bakugo exploded.

"W-Well..." Present Mic's voice suddenly came by, probably to explain. He strangely sounded nervous, tugging his collar awkwardly. "Since we're pretty much out of time, we got no time for extravagant mini-games, so we decided to go for just a drawing..."

"Damn, budget's tight, eh?" Meowth teased, resting his head on his fist leisurely.

Since Bakugo's raging and Tokoyami was forced to stand next to this imploding blond, the bird could only try to earnestly try to calm him down, side-eyeing the gremlin with his arms crossed seriously. "It can't be helped, just do it."

"HUH?!"

"Bakugo-kun! Mind your manners!" Iida quickly butted in, leaning his body forward to look at the raged boy properly. "I'm sure there's a perfectly good excuse besides the time limit that we're doing a lucky draw. It's efficient!" Iida robotically snapped his arm forward, as Bakugo sneered.

"SHUT UP!"

You and Pikachu heaved a sigh simultaneously, shaking your heads exasperatedly. It's always nice to remember that there's always going to be your pal to always be thinking the same things as you did, that the class was as chaotic as ever. As you to brooded over this, the sudden feeling of Todoroki's burning eyes shifting to your form caused you to tense, as he probably heard your disgruntled sigh. You meandered your body further from him, Todoroki taking note of this, as you sighed. This is truly awkward.

Pikachu only huffed when he made eye contact with the hot-cold boy. Pikachu could care less.

"Here I have 5 strings on my hand." Midnight disregarded everything that was going on, explaining how the drawing works. "Each one of you will be taking a string, you see, there are 2 long strings, 2 medium-sized strings, and one short one. The ones who get the same length of strings will be paired against each other."

Iida stiffened, raising his hand like a rocket to the sky, shaking with vigor, "And the one who garners the short end of the string?"

Midnight smirked a little. "The one who gets the odd one out would advance to the next round automatically and end up on the top 3 instantly."

Oh? The atmosphere got a strange tinge to it now. A lucky draw gets you on the top 3, just like that, who wouldn't want that. Of course, that also means you would get a lucky break without showing off to the crowd, but it would lead you to the semi-finals at the very least, you guessed as you rolled your eyes.

You met eyes with Pikachu. Well, it all comes to lady-luck you suppose.

Without wasting another time, everyone took their strings one by one. Bakugo was first because he shoved past everyone to get it done the quickest. He didn't even look at the strings and just grab the one his hands caught. You had a fun time snickering a little when Bakugo eyed down the vaguely long string with shaking contempt.

Tokoyami got a short one, but you weren't sure if that was the shortest.

Iida got a long one, Iida only staring down at the string with acceptance, unlike somebody else.

Then it was your turn, you eyed the two strings jutting out of Midnight's clenched hand, and you took the one that you thought was the best choice for you. It was shorter than Tokoyami's. Pikachu and you eyed it, glancing at each other. You only shrugged a little, a small frown decorating your face, looks like you're not joining-

And then Todoroki took the shortest of the bunch. So short in length, would it be right to even call it a short string? It's basically an understatement! Midnight blinked a little before she whips up her whip grandiosely. "That does it, Todoroki advanced to the semi-finals!"

Todoroki had the most unemotional gaze as the crowd cheered. You'd think he would be happy, but that was Todoroki Shoto for you. As Bakugo shook with blind rage, Present Mic swirls his hand around ecstatically, shooting a finger gun. "Alright, as Todoroki advances, that leaves the rest on their own 1 vs 1 game. From the drawings, this is the matchings we got-!"

You moved your gaze to the screen, a small sound like a computer ding drawled out, and the matchings were set.

「Bakugo Katsuki vs. Iida Tenya

&

(Last) (Name) vs. Tokoyami Fumikage 」

'Tokoyami-kun, huh...?' You made brief eye contact with your bird-headed classmate, who is simultaneously peering his crimson eyes at you. You nodded slightly, dipping your head in good sport as Tokoyami return it. Both of your responses to this are pretty lax, especially compared to...

"Heh? So I'll finally be able to blow you till bits, you damn stick-in-the-mud extra!" Bakugo sneered with a crazed smile, and Iida could only drawback in aghast.

"Let's keep the blowing up to bits to a minimum!"

"Like hell, I will!"

Yeah, that's going to be a fun battle to watch.

You sighed, here goes to another battle-! And this time, your eyes glinted as you brushed your thumb over a Pokemon's ball preparedly. This time...it'll be this one.

Chapter Thirty-Eight

Back in the dormitories, where all your Pokemon resided with you, there was a ruckus within. If anyone just so happens to pass by the building, they'd hear the loud chattering and clattering the creatures were making, gleefully barking, cooing, or making whatever noises they would be making- It honestly sounded like a zoo. Besides the creature's noisy racket, the blaring from the television was honestly just as loud.

It looks like the Pokemon are having some sort of hang out in front of the television. But what was it that they're watching? Well, of course, it's the Sports Festival going on right now! Since the next battles have yet to commence, the live show was being paused to show a commercial. A commercial about All Might's new energy drink being upgraded 2x. Wow-! now you can be twice the All Might than even All Might himself!

In the living room, there was a gaggle of Pokemon flittering about the hall. Skitty pressed the volume up, the feline seemingly enjoying messing around with the remote while Greninja exasperatedly watched the cat's action beside him, legs crossed on the couch.

Jigglypuff was being rolled around unconsented by Emolga and Charmander, who were trying to pass the time of the commercials by rolling the Pokemon around.

While Popplio was watching the commercials, along with Scolipede, Cyndaquill, and a dazed Psyduck too.

Frankly speaking, the Pokemon littering about in front of the television were far more than the average television-obsessed Pokemon you had. Most would be leisurely hanging about in your room, whether it would be snoozing on your bed, or messing with your closet. Some would take a moment to chill outside, or perhaps scour around for some snacks they can munch on while making it look like they didn't snack on them so you don't scold them. However, today was different. It was special!

Today they'd get to watch you fight alongside some of the other Pokemon, cheerfully watching you battle it out.

It was exciting for the Pokemon, and they were thankful that you put up the channel after Meowth had asked about it. They watched from the Obstacle race to the Cavalry, and now to your one-on-one battles. As Greninja sweated at the surrounding Pokemons' ruckus, he was pulled to the attention of another Pokemon coming by the couch, the frog peering over to see the incoming friend.

Once he turned his head, he quickly noticed the white-doggish-looking Pokemon, peering its red eyes in their direction. Greninja immediately felt a sense of ease at the Pokemon's appearance. It was Absol.

After Absol had gotten healed from Recovery Girl, the Pokemon was quick to gather much rest after the whole ordeal. Due to his injury, he was left fatigued and unable to move much, only doing the bare minimum in eating and walking. It wasn't long though that after about a week, Absol had finally gotten his energy back, taking much-needed walks and eating his usual portion. You were overjoyed when Absol finally had fully recovered from the villain attack, smothering the creature with as much love as you could provide.

The Pokemon was now back to normal, as Absol walked over to the group of Pokemon loitering about, coming to sit by to watch the battle as well. Greninja nodded a little in Absol direction, who directed its own silent nod.

Then, the television switched back to showing the Sports Festival. The Pokemon playing about were quick to cease their actions to put their focus entirely to the screen, as if entranced by it all of a sudden as they watched the program begin panning back into the stadium, with a tiny introduction starter before the announcers' voices began tuning in.

And as the screen pans towards the stage, the Pokemon couldn't help but burst in glee and coos as they were greeted with the sight of you once again, smiling towards your opponent, Tokoyami, who sternly eyed you back.

Your third battle was beginning.

(Last) (Name) vs. Tokoyami Fumikage

"Oho! It's the guy with his shadow-!" Meowth began, Present Mic trying to fix his explanation, only for Meowth to wave it off, "Or whatever! Well, he's made it quite far surprisingly!"

"Right..." Present Mic sighs, why does he even try? He quickly shifted his exasperation to upbeat, pointing a finger down. "Tokoyami has been passing the rounds with his almost invincible quirk for a while now! How will he fare against the one who fights with Pokemon?" Present Mic gutturals, as Midoriya walks down the steps to the bleachers, Tsuyu, Mineta, and Uraraka noticing his arrival.

"Midoriya-chan! Your surgery went well?" Tsuyu croaked, happy to see Midoriya's looking much better. The boy nodded, smiling softly.

"Yeah, she healed me enough to walk." Midoriya went towards the seat beside Uraraka, who worriedly watching as he sat down.

"Shouldn't you be resting?"

Midoriya knew of course that rest would probably be the best choice, but he denied it, for he wanted- "I want to see everyone...work hard on their goals..."

Uraraka's expression flitted to surprise, before she nodded seriously, understanding his underlying words. Kaminari commented loosely. "Ah-I see. Oh, by the way, did you see (Last)'s last battle?" Kaminari gushed, a small look of disdain crossed his feature. "I don't really like complimenting the mouse because he hates my guts, but honestly," He looked giddily, smiling like an idiot. "That was an insane electric attack at the end! I wonder if I could ever do that..."

Kaminari mused to himself, but Jiro was first to brush that idea away from him. "I'd say no. Besides," Jiro sent him a raised brow look. "...You're most likely going to dumbify yourself again and go brain-dead...but it might actually become permanent if you go that far."

"Jiro! Why are you so mean to me?!"

As the two bantered behind, Uraraka looked at both your and Tokoyami's form, furrowing her brows. She was worried about something. "...Tokoyami-kun's...weakness has already been exploited to us, right?"

"Mmh." Midoriya made a noise of confirmation, eyes set on the battlers too. "Yes, everyone in our cavalry knows, and that includes..." His eyes landed to your soft smiled form. "(Last)-san too."

"(Last)." You jerked to attention as Tokoyami calls out. There was a look of uncertainty crossing his eyes, your bird-appearing friend knew that winning against you was almost a little too much of a far-stretch, but in a way, he was confident in his ability. He looked at you seriously. "I'd hope we have a match we can be proud of."

You silently eyed your opponent, taking in his declaration. You watched the seriousness swirling in his eyes, the way he was sure of himself completely. He wasn't going to back down without a fight. The corner of your lips raised just a little to show a bit of arrogance, but most of all, assurance. You replied in kind. "...I hope for that as well."

And with that, the flags were raised and the battle commences.

In no time at all, Dark Shadow was called forth, slinging out with a loud shout to stand in front of Tokoyami. He was fast, but that doesn't mean you weren't either. You took out your intended Pokemon too, throwing the ball eagerly. "Here we go-!"

The crowd's eyes perked, knowing as the form began creating, that this was a new one they were seeing. The rest of your classmates leaned out of their seats in curiosity, wondering who they'll get to see, wondering what new mysterious Pokemon will this be.

"A new Pokemon is coming!"

"Maybe some sort of tropical animal?"

"Could be some sort of instrument, like a tambourine or something?"

"Oh, maybe we'll get another larger one?"

"How much bigger do you want them to get after the last one?!"

As the Pokemon entered into the arena and dropped down onto their bottom, the crowd could only hush and rear back, startled, as what they saw wasn't quite a big animal, rather it was small. Heck-it doesn't even look like any existing creature. Whatever it was, it had the crowd quietening for a brief second.

What stood before you was a tiny creature that had an odd resemblance to a well-known Pokemon that's been on your corner since the beginning. It had an appearance like Pikachu, but at the same time, not quite. Whatever was hiding underneath was trying so hard to resemble Pikachu with their costume, which was a drying yellow-colored sheet. It looked like the sheet disguise was drawn by a young child, trying hard to resemble Pikachu's eyes and cheeks, only to look like squiggled circles. It looked like a doll. A ragged one of Pikachu nonetheless.

Recognition lit in Tokoyami's eyes for a second. "That's..."

"Wait a second!" Tetsutetsu hollers out of nowhere, rising out of his seat with wide-mouthed shock. His classmates sided away at the impulsive action, as Tetsutetsu realizes. "That doll was-!"

"I was wondering if anyone of you guys would realize at the cavalry." You voiced, showing out your palm calmly. "That time, it was strange to just have a doll of Pikachu, don't you think?"

"That's right!" Meowth guffawed, clutching his belly in a chortle. "I'd highly doubt everyone could see it, but during the Cavalry, didn't iron-iron capture a Pokemon in his hand without realizing. What are the odds?" Meowth laughs again but the confused faces around him gave him a chance to do this next thing. He suddenly whipped out a remote, pointing at the screen and suddenly a rewind of the cavalry was shown when something was hurled into Tetsutetsu's direction, showing the Pokemon in question. "Yup, a Pokemon showed up and none of you even knew!"

"That was a Pokemon?!" Present Mic looked shocked, before whirling around to try to find the Pokedex. He whipped it out to find the selected Pokemon, looking like a boy scouring his Gameboy in finding that rare shiny creature only to scream his lungs out at fainting them. He showed the Pokedex. "It's this one?!"

Mimikyu: The Disguised Pokemon

A Ghost and Fairy Type

A lonely Pokémon, it conceals its terrifying appearance beneath an old rag so it can get closer to people and other Pokémon.

5th Pokemon: Mimikyu

Midoriya perked at the Pokedex entry, as well did Uraraka too. Both of them glanced at each other, a single information catching both of them by surprise. A ghost and fairy type?

Tsuyu commented offhandedly, tilting her head a little. "What an odd combination, kero."

Midoriya couldn't help but agree, but more so in another term. "Just like in the battle against that class B student, she used Pikachu. Now, she chooses a ghost and fairy type...?"

Uraraka hums, brows furrowing. "...It would be better...if she chose Arcanine or Pikachu, right?"

Tokoyami's eyes narrowed upon the tiny Pokemon appearance. You can tell he was a little surprised at this Pokemon, as you were sure he expected something entirely different. Dark Shadow eyed Mimikyu who looked back as equally as curious. "...(Last)." He sent you a look, but you didn't respond to it, merely smiling.

"Come, let's fight." You were ready.

Mimikyu chirped, the small eyes that weren't from the stuffing head peered at Tokoyami, blinking behind their disguise. You knew Tokoyami was still wary, but since you made your decision, he'll fight back with all he's got.

"...Very well." Tokoyami solemnly agreed, accepting your fight as he called forth Dark Shadow, who took the offense. "Dark Shadow."

Dark Shadow usually follows Tokoyami's order on a quick whim, but now he looks a little hesitant, timid even. "Do I have to?"

"Dark Shadow!" Tokoyami sterns.

Dark Shadow rolls his eyes, "Fine!"

You watch as Dark Shadow curls around to come forward to attack, reaching a hand out to probably swipe you or Mimikyu. The entity was fast, and from watching the 'quirk's' combat, you can tell. He was a being that could work in offense, and defense, that it left you trying to figure out your next move quickly. "Mimikyu! Shadow Claw!"

The grim Pikachu-looking Pokemon from underneath the little yellowing cloth raised out its arm, a thin long three-clawed shadow arm shot towards the barreling Dark Shadow. Tokoyami's dark shadow saw the act, dodging Mimikyu's swipe with ease, the Pokémon's arm having extended farther than most imagine.

Dark Shadow drew back a tad after that, Mimikyu withdrawing his arms to chirp. The competitors stood in a stand-off. Tokoyami's eyes narrowed while the corner of your lip raised a little.

"Woohoo!" Present Mic made a weird sound, sounding squeaky as he garners. "Two top competitors, both who are acquainted well in their offense and defense, are now at a stand-still! The battle has barely started!"

"Let's just say that they're a little similar, Dark Shadow and Mimikyu," Meowth interrupts laxly. The feline shrugged a little but ultimately was calmer than usual. "It be wrong to say they have the same abilities, but they're also no polar opposites."

"Hmm...so it looks like this is a battle to see who can outsmart the other," Midoriya mentions softly, eyeing seriously down at the stage. "Versatility...Dark Shadow would have more strength in that, but I'm not too sure since we haven't really gotten to know this Pokemon yet."

"Ne, Mimikyu appeared with us on the Cavalry, right?" Uraraka piped, sort of whispering at the memory. Her tiny brows furrowed, trying to rack her brain for the answer to a question she has in mind. "I had no idea, but if that Pokemon was with us...was there a trick it did during the Cavalry?"

Midoriya didn't respond, conjuring what Uraraka stated to try to make sense of it. He doesn't remember anything that Mimikyu could do...

But this was you they were talking about, you always had a trick up your sleeves.

Tokoyami had no idea how you were planning your attack. From watching all your battles, you have this strange at easiness wafting out of you, as if you knew everything was going to be alright. You smiled every now and then his way, your eyes holding this sense of confidence, and something else that Tokoyami wasn't quite sure about. You're a person he has come to respect. A person he's come to appreciate as a friend. Frankly, they wouldn't have won the cavalry if it wasn't for you. Yet as he looks at the creature you chose, even when Tokoyami can't argue that you are strong...he's adamant that you made the wrong choice in this battle.

Tokoyami decided to pursue the offensive.

Dark Shadow came to attack once again, but Mimikyu was already prepared to defend. Like a clashing between two knights, their swords coming by to swing at each other continuously, Mimikyu and Dark Shadow were just that, yet with their claws.

Dark Shadow moved effortlessly in the air, swishing around at ease to claw, but though Mimikyu was planted on the ground, its hands continued to cover both itself and you from any of Dark Shadow's pursue. However, Dark Shadow was able to land a few hard hits to Mimikyu's shadowed arm, the Pikachu-dressed being squeaking as it was pushed back.

Your eyes flitted dangerously. "Astonish!"

Mimikyu all of a sudden perked, bringing back his arm as he's admitting defeat. The action had Dark Shadow muddled, but Tokoyami was not convinced. "Dark Shadow-!" As it seems Mimikyu was turning to retreat, in a second, he turned right back to Dark Shadow with a startling screech, the dark-bird-like entity recoiling in surprise and hurt from the attack.

"Alright, Hex!"

And that's when Mimikyu went for the attack, with the opening from Dark Shadow recoil, Mimikyu release another relentless attack, Dark Shadow recoiling in a loud 'Youch!', before drawing back further. Even so, Dark Shadow continues to be fine through it all.

With this opening after the scuffle, Tokoyami ordered with a calmed yell. "Dark Shadow, throw him out!"

Dark Shadow using all of its might, swiped Mimikyu, aiming to fly him off towards the borders, but you were quicker. You were able to quickly and easily capture Mimikyu, the tiny thing so light you almost don't feel a thing. You held on to your dear Pokemon, standing preparedly if you somehow got pushed out of bounds.

Your eyes narrowed. Looks like that attack still didn't do much to Dark Shadow.

"Alright, alright, the battle has yet to be decided in which side it'll go, but our competitors aren't giving up!" Present Mic cheers, the crowd mimicking his excitement. "Who'll be the lasting one until the end?"

"..." A silence followed through the commentator's box, which Present Mic assume would be the end of this brief commentating, when Meowth...

"...I mean-," Meowth had stayed silent after all this time, but after Present Mic's comment, Meowth gazed at the blond, giving him an are-you-serious-look. "I'm pretty sure we know who it is, but I see you..."

That blank and assured stare caused Present Mic to blink. "Hahaha, c'mon Mouser, the battle has just begun!" He gestured to the duo competing. "Both Dark Shadow and Mimikyu have yet to seem tired yet, don't you think?"

Meowth wasn't convinced, crossing his arms as he nodded coaxingly, as if talking to a child. "Alrighttt, Just keep telling yourself that..."

"..."

Present Mic blinked again, uttering softly. "Yikes, your bias is becoming so obvious it's actually astounding..."

Nonetheless, the battle continued again, a long endless battle of clashing between claws. As you eyed seriously at Tokoyami, it made it very clear that this wasn't going to be an easy battle. To be honest, it was to be expected-you wanted it to be hard. Tokoyami and Dark Shadow have made it this far for a reason, and they were especially powerful. You watched as Mimikyu settled on the concrete to ready another attack, Dark Shadow lingering before Tokoyami preparedly.

You shut your eyes for a second. Looks like you got no choice. Your eyes opened seriously. Time for Plan B-!

Tokoyami had reeled in Dark Shadow, by the movements of the dark entity, you can assume he was readying to get into the defensive. Nonetheless, you wouldn't let him do that.

You hiked up your sleeves, and with a deep slow inhale, you let that thing you held go. You just wanted it to be a little, nowhere farther than within the stage, as you zeroed your eyes at Dark Shadow. You watched as Dark Shadow, all while eyeing you, had gone slackened, its earlier defensive pose obliterated as Tokoyami's brow furrowed in confusion. Dark Shadow floated almost unearthly, eyes dead-set on to you. You smirked a little. It worked.

"Hm...? What's this?" Present Mic commented, eyes narrowing down bewilderedly. "...It seems...Tokoyami's Dark Shadow has gone slack? Is this another brainwashing like Shinso from Mimikyu?"

"I don't think so..." Aizawa grumbled, Meowth smiling without a care in the world, keeping his comments to himself at the moment. Aizawa could only sigh, the cat's really made for the media huh?

"Dark Shadow!" Tokoyami called, narrowing his red eyes on his partner, his quirk, who floated quietly. Tokoyami furrowed. "Dark Shadow-!" But the entity stayed still, the only indication he heard that was a twitch. Dark Shadow looks like he's restraining himself.

"...You know, it still surprises me how affected Dark Shadow is to my quirk." Tokoyami's eyes widen a smidge, turning to face you. You twisted your mouth a little, straining all your energy into this. "It makes me think, how far those the effect takes on him? But look at that, he's pretty strong!"

Midoriya's eyes widened, "(Last)-san's..."

Uraraka finished off, just as surprised. "-Using her quirk...!"

"WHAAAT?!" Present Mic shouts profanely. "She's using her quirk after all this time?! Why now?"

"Well, it's obviously cause her opponent is influenced by it," Meowth responded. "After all, Boss lures Pokemon to her!"

"Lure! That's right-!" Present Mic grunted, before pointing the strangeness. "But that doesn't explain why he's standing there not moving! He isn't a Pokemon, you know?"

"I'm getting there-!" Meowth grumbles, before pointing out. "Well, to be honest, I can't really say why, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with Dark Shadow holding back! Look at the guy struggling-! Pretty strong fellow huh?" But then Meowth adds with a shrug. "And about the whole not being a Pokemon thing...No comment there."

"C'mon! Seriously!?" Present Mic could only try to probe, but Meowth continued to stay mute. Hiding the fact that he's just as uncertain about the answer.

"Dark Shadow-!" Tokoyami stresses, but even as the entity twitches, he didn't shift his eyes from your form.

"Dark Shadow, Tokoyami-san, your pretty tough, as expected." You hummed, you smiled at that. Honestly, you just wanted to cuddle with Dark Shadow already, but since it's a battle, it's a battle you'll have to confront on. You hummed. "But that's good for me. I just need you to stay right there for a moment..."

You turn your hand, showcasing the bracelet wrapped against your wrist, a thick-greyish band inserted with some sort of crystal. Tokoyami's eyes narrowed down knowingly as the crowd stirred.

"Here it comes! Another Power-move!" Kaminari yells, leaning over the edge of his seat. "(Last)-chan's not going to make that Pokemon huge too, is she?"

"No," Yaoyorozu answers, eyes set on your band through the screen. "It looks different."

Still using your power to lure, Dark Shadow stayed still, twitching unsettlingly in trying to not be tempted by your scent, as you used this chance. "Mimikyu!" The clothed-being squeaked. "Let's do it!"

Inhaling a deep breath, you followed through the movements you learned day and night. It should be simple enough, as you attempted to do your movement without even flashing an eye at the surrounding crowds above. The light coming from the z-ring urged you to go forward, as you did the small dance, rounding your arms, and even landing in the last 'fairy' pose as Mimikyu followed through. The Mimikium Crystal you both had pushing you two forward.

The being chirruped your way, as you smiled down at it. "Alright, go!"

With no qualm, Mimikyu got to work, rushing towards the frozen Dark Shadow, as Tokoyami eyed frantic. It's weird how the surroundings could change so fast as if their vision was clouded by mist itself. It felt surreal as the world encompassed around them, the crowd disappearing to welcome the darkness of the steely forest, yet Tokoyami knew it was fake because Dark Shadow had still kept his wits.

In the forest, there was no sound, except for the rustling of the being rushing around the trees secretively. Tokoyami could do nothing for Dark Shadow, no idea how to overcome this quite so, as in jeering surprise, Tokoyami eyes widen, as Mimikyu fell from above, its cloth completely overcoming Dark Shadow's stiff figure, who finally loosened to look up in similar feeling once you reeled the scent back.

Dark Shadow squawked as Mimikyu complete shrouds Dark Shadow in the darkness of its cloth, the world seemingly returning to the stage in U.A as Tokoyami frantically eyes you, who looked assured. "(Last)-! This-!"

"Yes, the darkness. His power would flourish." You answered, knowing Tokoyami's feeling quite well as the cloth seemingly struggled with Dark Shadow's attempt as you heard his battle cry deepened. Your eyes seriously narrowed, as your smile broaden. "But underneath the cloth, you could say the same to Mimikyu!"

And like that, a frantic battle pursued underneath the cloth. Whether it was Dark Shadow following through the actions of a fight closely to Mimikyu, as the cloth rustled due to the battle, enlarging to cope from its growing size. A fight against too dark entities that enjoyed the darkest on nights.

As you eyed the cloth scruffle, you knew Mimikyu knew the next step well. Though deep down you knew this fight may be disobliging to weaken Dark Shadow, at the very least, it'll finish this game.

As Mimikyu threw Dark Shadow out, the being swirling and shaking his head in confusion, it was time. The entity was larger than it was originally, the darkness had improved its power. However, with the beating sun raining on its body, it slightly cowered back. Through all the fighting that happened underneath Mimikyu's cloth, not a single scratch was on Dark Shadow. There's better time than now. You knew it's time to end the battle. You called. "Shadow sneak!"

Mimikyu pulled back, siding farther away from the duo. Extending his shadows, taking advantage of the slight distraction of both Dark Shadow and Tokoyami, you watched as the shadows widened to where Tokoyami stood, the shadow rising behind the bird heads back and without any hesitation, Mimikyu pushed the shadows to throw Tokoyami to the side. He couldn't even call out to Dark Shadow as he fell to the ground, rising only to realize...

"Out!" Midnight calls.

Tokoyami looks down in surprise, as Midnight swished her whip down on the ground. "Tokoyami is out of bounds! (Last) head to the semi-finals!"

Cheers were hollered, and you felt the stiffness in your shoulder sag, finally able to calm down. You sighed tiredly, the smallest doubtful emotion making their way into your heart before you hurled them away.

That was tougher than you thought it would be, but with the games done with, you watched as Mimikyu twist around, jumping up like it could defy air, as you cheered. "Mimikyu!" You called, the chirping of the disguised Pokemon crying back at you, as it jumped a little of its spot. You didn't hesitate to pick it up, smiling at the Pokemon proudly. "You were...the coolest!"

Another hearty chirp. Your baby is so cute-! It makes you wonder how anyone could be considering it to be frightening.

"...Hey, that move..." Uraraka voices, recognizing it quite well. A sense of Deja vu, crossing her as Midoriya nods with focused eyes, understanding her just the same.

Momo places a hand to her mouth, not quite in shock, but more in realization as she furrowed her brows. "At the cavalry..."

Todoroki stood afar and alone in a secluded place, his eyes narrowed. You bounced Mimikyu up, smiling. He remembered, that same feeling of being pushed ahead out of nowhere. It was during the cavalry. You used Mimikyu to aid you in the cavalry at that last moment. Todoroki crosses his arms, as the crowd glees.

"Another power-up move came up, and with that, (Last) wins the battle." Present Mic presents, as he turned to the feline. "Take it away, Mouser!"

Meowth rolled his eyes but complied. "Right...well let's just say Z-moves show quite a different set than our Dynamax you were first greeted with," Meowth explains loosely, gesturing out with hand blatantly. "They're actually a power-up move that was founded around the Hawaiian coasts. The understanding of these powers are a little vague, so I can't say much, but using these crystals, with the pursuit of both human and Pokemon, it ups a certain move way better than it did without it."

"Oooh...!" Present Mic awes, clapping slowly. "You're acting so calm it's frightening!"

"Shut it!" Meowth scowls, wondering what was so amusing about that. He huffs, rubbing a finger under his nose haughtily. "Anyway, it's a power-up move using both boss's and Mimikyu's full power together. The whole dance and what-not." You knew Meowth was teasing you at the end, as you rolled your eyes at him once you glared up, the cat cheekily returning it.

Finishing his speech, Meowth cackles. "With that, we have 2 power-up moves already! Amazing isn't it!"

As the crowd hums in agreement, Tokoyami got back to his feet, his eyes clenched in defeat. Dark Shadow hovered closely to the bird-boy, apologetically moving around at their loss. Of course, Tokoyami had no complaints, for it's just as much of his loss as Dark Shadows. With a soft inhale, he came up to you, giving you a small bow in appreciation.

You followed, bending low before you reached a hand out to shake. "Tokoyami-kun, you were good."

Your hand was enveloped by the bird-headed boy, whose stern expression stayed still intact. You eyed Dark Shadow in the side, who looked a little fretful. A small smile bloomed on your face, feeling the need to comfort the creature, as you raised a hand up softly, asking for permission subtly. "Dark Shadow, you were also amazing."

Dark Shadow perked, nudging your pets appreciatively. It wasn't long until Dark Shadow got into his excitable nature, flickering about happily. Dark Shadow himself went to talk to the Mimikyu wrapped in your left arm's hold. The Mimikyu broken down plush Pikachu-head drooped to the side lazily, not that Mimikyu could do anything at its state. But the disguised Pokémon's two tiny eyes poking from the sheet's body eyed Dark Shadow curiously.

Dark Shadow squawked a happy chirp of elation as it shut its eyes happily. Dark Shadow reached a shadowed hand friendlily. "Good game!"

Mimikyu eyed the hand, blinking at it confusedly. You slightly jostled Mimikyu, who eyed you for confirmation, or a look for help. You could only smile a little, as Mimikyu extended its thin arms, and they shook on it.

"Aww~ Isn't that cute! From one creature to another entity!" Present Mic awed, as Meowth grumbles away.

You eyed the two Pokemon happily. It's nice Dark Shadow can get along with the Pokemon, rather you're very happy about it. You're especially glad that Mimikyu, who's slightly prone to be a little reclusive, was able to make a new friend. You feel like a proud mom when her child finally gets a friend. Your attention was quickly called upon Tokoyami, who got closer.

Tokoyami appeared still ever-so-sharp, even with the battle having been done with, he had this air around him that he's ready to fight once more. You curiously tilted your head upon the red-tinged eyes lingering on you, a feeling of unsettlement reaching you at his stare. "(Last)...it was a good battle."

You stayed silent, as his words sounded a little...unfinished. The serious eyes met eyes with you, it looked like he was seeing through you and it left you feeling a little wary. He shut his eyes, giving a brief nod. "But, next time, I hope we could fight head-on properly."

You flinched, watching his eyes open, before he gave another small bow, turning to leave. You watched him attempt to leave, Dark Shadow turning to follow. His words left you unsettled as the stadium joyfully clapped.

You frowned. You wondered as you stared at his back, what would he think if...? You hesitated. As you watched him walk away further, you pushed yourself to ask.

"...W-Would-," You looked away, feeling incredibly uncomfortable as you caught his attention. "Would you have preferred if I...fought your weakness?"

You felt that Tokoyami had stopped short, peering back at you a little. There was small tension that could only be felt between you and Tokoyami, alongside Mimikyu and Dark Shadow, the latter peering back and forth from you and his possessor. Mimikyu chirruped, broken plush-head nodding off. Tokoyami eyed the ground briefly, before humming. "...Perhaps."

You stilled, nodding your head rigidly, swallowing his answer deeply. "...Right."

Tokoyami didn't leave just like that, after all, he respected you, of course. "...Good luck in the semi-finals."

You raised your head a little, meeting his softer gaze subsequently. "...Okay."

That ends your battle with Tokoyami, the feeling of confusion, guilt, and uncertainty swirling in the tip of your head.

❧❧❧

After the battle, you find yourself standing alone in an empty bleacher, similar to the one you had stood with Iida and Midoriya before heading down to draw for the matchups. It was dimly quiet, other than the bustling chattering of the spectators you've come to ignore by now.

As much as you enjoy the company of your classmates and friends, you felt it was only right to step away for a moment, especially since your next battle with either Todoroki or Bakugo won't be so far ahead.

You needed a moment to clear your head. If you went towards the class's bleachers, you would be forced to converse with the rest, and would probably have no time to think to yourself. And you needed time to yourself right now.

You eyed the palm of your hands contemplatively. Everything you do...has always been for the Pokemon.

You heaved a sigh as Present Mic presented Iida and Bakugo, both students looking at each other with leveling sternness, the latter more feral really. You wondered if Iida had any plans on this battle with the hot-head of the class, but with Iida's confident upfront, you'd say he's sure of his strategy.

You leaned your arms over the fence, eyeing the battle absorbedly. It wasn't until you tilted your head just a little did you see someone else, someone with dual-colored hair, the familiar white and red split hair you've come to see daily in class sticking out like a sore thumb.

Todoroki was also by himself. He was off leaning on the wall much farther from you, so it was no surprise he hadn't noticed you so far. Looking at him, it was strange how earlier you had associated the boy with coldness and uncaringness through and through, yet now, you can only see something akin to confusion, and more prominently, sadness exhibiting out of him. Just a confused, sad boy...

You hummed a little, it looks like both you and Todoroki have a lot to think about.

With Bakugo and Iida's battle commencing, Iida deciding to strike first with his speed. He went for a kick to the head which Bakugo cleanly avoided, as Bakugo went for an explosion. As the battle continued, you had no idea of the growing presence coming your way. You only blink at the heat, a swarming warmth just coming close enough that you felt it prickling your skin, but not enough to make you feel burnt. You frowned.

"You..."

You blinked blearily, raising back to stand straight from your slouching to meet eyes with a certain Todoroki, yet not the one that has been emitting sadness. You met turquoise-colored eyes, your eyes swamped with bright reddish fire dancing about his face. There he was, Endeavor himself.

With an unpleasant featured scowl and an unfriendly stare, he said. "Let's have a chat."

The battle continued, yet this time, you couldn't pay your full attention to it. A growing frown grew on your face, and you had a hard time hindering it back at the pro's appearance, who waited for your response. It took a while for you to recollect your thoughts with the sudden cheer from the crowd, as you narrowed down your eyes carefully.

"...I'm sorry, but I don't think we'll be able to talk long." You moved your attention towards the battle below, your voice leveling a certain fierceness and authority that seemed odd from your smaller form. Endeavor raised a fiery brow, almost annoyed. Your glared forward. "My next battle will probably begin soon."

Your tone was oddly serious, yet it sounded so clear to you, like speaking like so was like breathing air.

Endeavor huffed, perhaps getting a little amused now by your dismissal to him. He quirked an arrogant smirk. "It won't take long, so it doesn't matter."

You blinked, eyeing the pro-hero with a look that you hope was disdain. You narrowed your eyes, making sure to seem more confident than what you were feeling as the pro got closer in preparation for discussion. If this was any other day, you were sure that telling him off would be a breeze. But now with everything burying deeply in your heart, you were feeling uncertain enough that you weren't sure what words you could say. He stayed at a reasonable distance, as you frowned. "...What do you need, Mr. Endeavor?"

Endeavor. A Top Hero skilled in the usage of flames. The man had been lighting up his flames across his suit and facial features continuously, making you wonder if it gets tiring as time goes by. He truly had an air that spoke that he demanded attention, but also an air that said to make sure to stay out of his way. You kept your eyes on Todoroki's father, the father that Todoroki loathes with a deep hatred that consumes him, and after witnessing him with his talk with Midoriya, you know, he was a man that cuts right through the chase.

"The Monsters." Your fingers twitched, and your brows furrow. "You're quite proficient with using them."

For a long time, the monsters were an easy nickname the Pokemon had accumulated. They were outwardly in the past, and the name grew on. The term 'Monsters' stuck quite closely, even among the organization. You hear them being called by that so many, many times, and you've come to learn how to differentiate the different innuendo everyone's saying upon calling them. The Fear, Curiosity, Hope. You can tell it all.

And the way this man says it. It held his interest and an intention. An intention you weren't sure what to expect.

You scoffed, loudly in a mocking way. An amused smile that doesn't reach your eyes. "Using them, huh? You have a way of using your words, number..." You were about to call him by his ranking, but somehow the number deleted itself from your memory, so you opted with. "-Endeavor-san..."

He raises a brow. "You're smart."

You looked away from him once more pointedly. "Thank you."

"You know your way around the game."

"Alright..."

"And you know how to use your chess pieces well."

Your right eye twitches at the implication he's using with his words. Your annoyance grew ten-fold, as you glared up at him. "With all due respect, I thought you came here to talk, not to rattle on." You jutted your head a little arrogantly, to give him a hint to stop messing about. "You're not the type of person who'd skirts around topics. Please get to the point."

For a moment, there was silence. You wondered what was going on inside this well-known pro-hero for him to stay silent, but you were quick to not give a care. You watched as Iida rushed around Bakugo, trying to hit Bakugo with a Recipro Burst, as Bakugo grinned wildly at the choice of battle. You wondered if Endeavor continued to stay silent you could forget that he was even there beside you in the first place. But then...he asks.

"...How do you do it?" You look at him from the corner of your eyes, a frown pulling on your lips heavily. He looked at you steadily as he probes.

"How do you tame them?"

You glared, anger bubbling from where your heart lies, the pits of your stomach boiling. "...Tame?"

Endeavor mused with a hum as if he cared for not that your growing anger was appointed to him. "You must've used your quirk; it makes sense now that I think about it." The Pro-hero huffed a hot breath through his nostrils, eyeing down at you proudly. "Taming the beast to battle..." There was a gleam that Todoroki had always talked about, and it was shown through this man's eyes. "-is an especially good ability."

It felt like you were talking to a brick wall, and all you could feel was growing resentment. You huffed. "So that's it huh?" You quirked in a sardonic way, though there was hardly any joke in your tone. "You just want to know how to tame them?" You would be surprised if the pro couldn't tell your pure irritation as you probed. "For what? Power? Strength? Fame? Is that it?"

Endeavor's overpowering figure did not waver, a frown dressed the growing lines on his aging face, as he grumbles with a glare. "...It would definitely be a great addition...to upgrade in power." You felt the fire in you being dabbed by the bits of alcohol he was pouring on you wondrously, wondering when you'll finally explode. The Pro-hero only continued. "But that's not it. I imagine more, of how it could be a great help in incurring Shoto's fireside out of him even more."

What did he mean by that? Surely, what does he really want? A leashed pet he could use a training partner? A glorified dummy that'll be used for fighting? What does the hero mean by incurring Shoto's fireside? For whatever reasons, you don't want to know anymore.

You glowered. "Well I have news for you, I don't tame the Pokemon, there's no taming in this sort of situation." You widen your hands out in emphasis, as Endeavor looks you down contemplatively, distrustfully even. "All I do is treat them like they are, creatures with hearts and minds of their own."

You didn't hold back, sneering. "Maybe you could learn a thing about that."

You heard a great explosion resound from below, and you notice Bakugo was able to get the upper hand and destroy Iida who couldn't move for a while after using his recipro-burst. Iida had gritted his teeth, knowing that there was no way he could battle once more, simply glaring to the ground in frustration.

"And that's it! Bakugo makes it to the top 3! Now we'll move along to the semi-finals!" Present Mic cheers, Meowth boredly plays with this cat toy that Aizawa gave him, why the no-nonsense man brought along such a thing? Meowth and Present Mic had no clue. "Oi, Mouser, pay attention!"

In the end, Bakugo was victorious, looking down at the slightly injured Iida while he wrung his wrist to ease them. The explosions must've taken a lot, as you assumed Iida was a pretty good competitor. Knowing who his last enemies were, Bakugo glares up to meet your gaze and Todoroki's, threateningly piercing his red eyes upon Todoroki's, who looked down with the same disdain. Then Bakugo shifted his gaze to yours.

It was weird how you had noticed from even this far, but you saw the slight twitch his brows did, a sign that he was not expecting what he saw. And that was you standing alongside Endeavor. The slight vulnerable surprise was long gone, but the glare he had didn't waver.

Todoroki, who now noticed Bakugo's attention on another, side-eyed himself to see what he was staring at. His eyes visibly widened, before narrowing in anger. Todoroki probably doesn't like that you were talking to his bastard father, and for this time, you seemed to agree. You gave an unhinged bow, an unmoved thin frown playing on your lips. "Good day to you, Endeavor-san. I hope this conversation was informative to you."

In no qualm, you moved swiftly away from the Pro. Making your way back to the stairs to get away, not before meeting Todoroki's narrowed irises, as you went to leave as quickly as possible, hoping to finally be out of this situation. But alas, you should've known it wouldn't be that easy, as Endeavor stood still, not even turning to watch you leave.

"...Your Monsters are incredible, as well as your battling." The man alleges making you pause. You slightly turn to eye the man, who peered one piercing turquoise eye at you, judging you. "But you choose to forfeit your battles with weak stunts, and showy actions."

Endeavor continues, challenging you to deny. "You're holding them back from their true potential. At this point, you're just showing your weaknesses."

"..." You didn't say anything, that bubbling in your gut swirling. But Endeavor finally turns fully to face you, the fire dancing across his face and hair showed his intimidation, his unwavering, his tenaciousness. He pulled a grin that didn't have the same heart as All Might's, a bullishness to it Endeavor could only pull.

He cajoled, widening a handout, like an attempt to make an agreement with another business. "But you show prowess. You know your way around the monsters like clockwork." His eyes gleamed in impudence. "You should come and learn under me."

That fire was ignited into billowing flames, as he persuades. "You could learn to expand on your taming-!"

"Don't say another word, Endeavor."

A sickening drag came from you, something that was so rarely pulled out. Endeavor woke from his demented rambling to find you scowling at him harshly. You didn't even look at him fully, only peering and tilting your head in a way he could only see the absolute malice. It was unlike the disrespect you've been showing him so far, as this was resentment and indignation. Your eyes didn't waver to his. You've had enough.

With a heavy huff, you trampled away. Saying one last thing, as if to ingrain it in his tiny brain. "Sure I'll learn under you, but that'll be a long day until a cretin like you finally tame your own monsters."

Finally, you walked away.

❧❧❧

"Alright!" The blond pro-hero began, widening his arms out ecstatically. "After through all the trials and tribulations, give it up to our top 3!"

With Present Mic's extravagant happy dance moves that Meowth was for sure going to diss, the crowd cheered as three of your photos: Todoroki, you, and Bakugo were put up on the screen. The deciding top 3 has already been chosen, and now all that's left is the ranking of these 3. The crowd was thrilled, knowing that whoever gets paired up first before they get to the finale would still be an incredibly exhilarating battle that they all can't wait to see. "Please, if you 3 could come back to the stage, that would be rad!"

"Rad?" Meowth emphasized, but Present Mic ignored. The crowd jumbles in glee.

"It's the semi-finals now. Whether which pairing it would be first, it's still going to be amazing!"

"Putting aside victory or defeat, All the first years are evenly matched this year."

"Maybe another drawing will be announced just like before? Or perhaps they'll really go for a mini-game?"

Back on the bleachers, Midoriya eyed the screen, a small frown placed on his face. "I wonder...how will the next battle go."

"Hmm..." Uraraka hummed, wondering curiously. "...It would still be cool; we haven't seen any of those 3 fight each other before." She sighed a little. "Hope (Name)-chan passes with ease, she looks so tired." She then perked a little, though a little softly. "Ah, maybe Todoroki-kun will be forced to battle since he won the drawing before?"

"Maybe." Midoriya smiled a little, but then it slowly fell as he notes Uraraka's inquiry of you, noticing the same things she has. You look tired. "...Yeah, (Last)-san looks really out of it after her battle, huh?"

A small silence consumed the duo, both filled with worry for a 'friend' that they hold very dear to their heart. They decided to move the conversation about Iida, who was probably frustrated with his loss at the moment, softly talking about the class president worriedly.

Unbeknownst to the duo, they were unaware of the curious listener, watching them for a seat above. With a pair of wide blackish pupils watching the duo clamor about, they tilt their head to the large screen showing the trio's picture, their eyes especially appointed to your form.

She hummed.

Iida Tenya let out a small groan, his brows furrowing in pain. He rises from his laid-out form from the soft bedding in Recovery Girl's temporary office. He frowns a little, still a little frustrated with his loss. He was so close to making it to the semi-finals and winning this Sports Festival, but in the end, he was no match against Bakugo.

Watching your last battle made him certain that he wanted to at least fight you once head-on but looks like it won't be happening today.

He was quickly excused from the nurse, who had nursed his injuries with ease. He hadn't gone here for himself yet, but it kind of disappointed him he hadn't, as he watched in mild fascination at the Pokemon working together with Recovery Girl. He was truly impressed by the Pokemon abilities.

Nonetheless, he was quick to try to get back to the bleachers. With his loss, he could only hope to cheer on his friends and study it upon his next revenge to go out stronger. He had high hopes that you would be doing well.

Then he stopped, his entire existence shaking like an out-of-function robot. Iida wasn't fazed, but his friends would probably be if they saw him, as he plucked out his phone from his pocket. He was slightly surprised to see who was calling him at this time, 'Mother' shown on the screen. His parents must be trying to talk to him after watching him lose his last fight.

He picked it up with no qualm, taking advantage of the quiet and empty hallway.

He had no idea that he would be greeted by his distressed mom, bearing news that would shake him down to the ground.

In another place, taking place in Hosu city, there had been a terrible incident. On an entryway of one of the many alleyways in the city, police tape lined the area, restricting the area from on walking pedestrians, all curiously eyeing the commotion a little away.

Police were gathered around the place, the sirens light unnoticeable during the midday. The Police were there checking what had transpired in the alley, while the others, made sure the citizens stayed out of the way in case anyone got too bold to cross the tape.

As this went down, atop a building stood the perpetrator of this horrible crime, crouched down as he watched in ecstasy. With crazed blood-like eyes, so bloody that it looked like his irises were about to drip down like so, he swipes out his elongated tongue upon his blade, his sword draped with the blood of his latest victim.

"...All of you don't even realize, this distorted society..."

With the wind billowing his scarves forward, his messed black hair and headband swishing along, he stayed crouch with his gaze fixated in the great city of Hosu. "...Filled with vanity and hypocrisy..."

The glimmering blood of his eyes weighed his words, the conviction he held close to him spoke volume. "Those who are called a Hero, I'll help you to understand..."

With quick reflexes, feeling the presence of another, the anti-hero rushed his blade towards the unsuspecting presence, who was prepared for his action. A dark purple warp was what the man had slammed his sword against, not hurting the warp who talks coolly. "Please calm down. We are of the same kind."

The eye-masked man glared his eye peculiarly. The warp's yellow irises squinted gladly.

"We've searched for you; Hero Killer: Stain."

On another side of the coin, the villains begin their plans in revenge.

❧❧❧

As you walked down to the stadium, with your eyes zeroed in on the floor and the only thing that is accompanying you was the blaring noise of your thoughts, everything came at you full force. You felt this feeling weighing you down for almost the entirety of the day.

It was sort of odd to explain, frustrating really, as it feels like there's no rightful explanation on how you're feeling.

Here's the truth. When you started the day, you never planned to win the Sports Festival.

You had your goals straight. Showcase the Pokemon in light that will encourage people to look at the Pokemon in a brighter light, hoping to gain the people's acceptance so, one, the Pokemon situation will get better, and two, so Gardevoir and the rest that had been included during the USJ, will stay...with you.

You had this plan.

This plan to take things in a way that'll show your Pokemon how amazing they are. They are your everything. You would do anything for their benefit, even if it means taking advantage of things you wouldn't have taken advantage of in the first place.

And that advantage, being the U.A Sports Festival.

It started simple. You showed them the Pokemon: their abilities, their strengths, their majestic features, and their incredible uniqueness while Meowth would take the lead in explaining the Pokemon to their fullest extent. It was all for the sake of the Pokemon's interest.

But then...you felt...guilty.

By the end of the race, while you watched Midoriya desperately flail about to reach the end with his fumbling fast-paced feet, you made a decision. You made a decision to let him win that race. You hadn't think twice when that decision had to be made. You didn't need to win to show the Pokemon their grace, why would you need to try so hard? With how desperate Midoriya seemed, you assumed it was only right.

Yet...

When Bakugo had pointed it out, pointed out how you just let Midoriya win just like that, that's when it seems like the gears were finally turning in your head. You felt...guilty, for letting the first stage go so easily, by letting Midoriya take the stage without a fighting chance from you. Guilty...for underestimating him. And in those moments, you began feeling bad.

But you quelled down those thoughts, moving on with the Cavalry with stride. You had fun, and all that uncertainty had washed away so quickly you began thinking twice you were ever feeling bad in the first place.

But then came your battles, the 1 vs 1.

Starting with Sero, then Ibara, and finally Tokoyami. The more the battles had continued, the more you felt...horrible. You weren't letting them win, yet...you weren't showing your cards with strength either were you? You...You were holding back. And in a weird sense, you weren't...taking any of them seriously, were you?

It's weird. Though you had planned this from the very beginning, now that it happened, you felt guilty for treating your friends like that. You felt like you were using them. And the more you think about it, you felt you were most definitely playing with them. Watching them flail about to win, only to watch them earnestly as they became a puppet in your plan to get the Pokemon's popularity risen. You felt like a horrible person for taking advantage of everything in their way.

You didn't mean for it to be this way. But for some reason, you still did it.

Why?

A part of you knew it stems from the moment you let Midoriya win the race. Maybe it started even before the Sports Festival began, the feeling of guilt on taking over this Sports Festival when the intentions of the festival were meant for your classmates' to showcase to the many heroes interested in them.

Deep down, you cared for your friends. You want them to get the best out of this sports festival, so you let Midoriya win in the race, and held back in the 1 vs 1. You felt like you had good intentions, but...would it be better if you just went all out instead?

Did holding back just make you more arrogant in doing so? Made you look down on them unintentionally?

Should you have gone all out without a care in the world? Maybe then you wouldn't feel so guilty for feeling like someone who holds back against another.

You sighed, clenching your hands. Maybe Endeavor was right, in the end, you're not only looking down at your friends by holding back, but you're also looking down on your Pokemon for holding them back from showing their full potential.

If you had gone all out, you would've never let Midoriya win the obstacle race. If you had not held back, you would've finished off Sero without a thought, and swing him out of bounds. If you went all out, you would've chosen a different typing against Ibara. And if you had really tried to win, you would've exposed Tokoyami's weakness in that crowd, taking out Arcanine in a heartbeat.

It's all clear. Silently...you were looking down on them.

A part of that eats you up real good because it makes you feel like some arrogant fool. You wanted both things, as you needed to use your opponents, but also wanted them to get something out of it. You thought you could get the best of both of them, but it ended up making you feel like you were wrong. Wrong in downgrading their efforts by 'helping' them.

The anger that Endeavor ignited into you was now washed down by your growing uncertainty about yourself. And only the sadness lingered.

You decided as you made your way back to the stage. You were going to lose this next battle. Be it against Todoroki or Bakugo, you're going to let either of them win the next battle, and have them move to the finals quickly. You just can't stand it anymore, this uncomfortableness just staining you. You want this to end.

As you rose to the stage, you find the two others already there. Bakugo stood with his hands stuffed in his gym pants, looking on with an annoyance, grumbling lowly to himself. Beside him, Todoroki was much tamer, yet you had a feeling he was somehow still upset, a mellowness exuding out of him. You walked to stand on the side of Bakugo, who huffed once he noticed your appearance.

You felt Todoroki's eyes set on you, but you didn't look back. Even with the two noticing your off behavior, you said nothing.

"Once again, please give it up to our top 3 this Sports Festival!" Midnight starts once again as she nods at your appearance, gesturing widely to the crowd enthusiastically, who returned in full. The crowd rang wild, but somehow it felt like the bitterness you were feeling rang louder.

"With these Top 3, we'll be doing a very special mini-game for you all!" Midnight winked, probably sending a few of the crowd fainting at her alluringness as she whips down her whip eagerly. "I hope you all anticipate it."

As exciting as that sounds, however, Meowth wasn't the type to keep his mouth shut. He decided to voice his thoughts without a care. "Well, yeah, but that's what you said the last time too, and that became a drawing." The cat shrugged, earning worried looks from his blond co-mate. Present Mic is aware on how Midnight can be, they've worked together for so long.

"Uh...Mouser-," Present Mic tugs the collar of his hero outfit, nervously looking down at his senior, Midnight, who was starting to look annoyed. "Let's keep quiet."

"But I mean, if it's a drawing, this is a bit anti-climactic, you know?" Meowth adds carelessly, picking his ear with his pinky. "C'mon, we're at the end of the games, let's add some juiciness to it! How 'bout it?"

"Mouser-!"

"QUIET!" Midnight finally blew, whipping down her weapon indignantly, Present Mic literally screeched nervously as the anger was delivered to him. The trio of you could only watch as Midnight's anger had her feeling like an intense inferno before she tried to calm herself down. Taking heaving breaths, the provocative lady smiled as if nothing happened. "Anyways! As I was saying-!"

As she got ready to further explain the upcoming battle, you willed yourself to go forward. You're going to tell Midnight your decision on suggesting to join the next battle in the semi-final, so finally, finally, you can finish your task.

You hesitated for a moment, eyeing Midnight's cheerful outlook before you opened your mouth. Softly beginning. "Midnight-sensei..."

"Wait just a second!" But before you could even take a step forward, you were interrupted by another who stepped forward, finding it to be the person standing right beside you. Surprisingly and not-surprisingly, it was Bakugo, who sneered like he couldn't contain his anger anymore. The blond spiked-haired boy gruffly waltzed up closer to Midnight, who's probably starting to get annoyed that she's getting interrupted over and over again. Bakugo spats out. "I say the dumb cat's right!"

"Dumb??" Meowth narrowed his eyes, sneering down at the court detestably. "I'll have you know I'm the smartest-!"

"Alright, alright, calm down!" Present Mic tried to ease Meowth, who's getting ready to berate to dandelion head. Bakugo ignored.

Bakugo's unwavering gaze fixed on the black-haired pro-hero, Midnight, who blinked bewilderedly. Bakugo alludes with a jeer. "Instead of doing this shit drawing, or whatever stupid mini-game you got planned..." There's was a feral gleam in his eyes. "Let's just fight!"

You and Todoroki gazed at the back of Bakugo's in confusion, at least you assumed you were both feeling the same absurdity sprouting out from Bakugo's suggestion. The crowd had dimmed in surprise at the proposal, not quite getting it. But you think you and Todoroki are starting to get an idea of what he's saying. There's no way, but...you widened your eyes, "Wait-! Bakugo-kun, you don't mean-?"

"All 3 of us. Against each other." Bakugo finally proposes his idea. He didn't hold his head overly cockiness but instead held his head laxly. He was giving his idea with integrity. A dangerous gleam settled on his eyes. "A fight to get both of their opponents out of bound or admit defeat!" He widened his feral grin. "Whoever stands last, wins."

An astounded gasp shook the crowd, gaping mouths, and whispers circling the stadium, as you stepped back in surprise, your brows furrowing. He can't be serious...?

"An all fight to win! What is the guy saying!?" Present Mic rambles just as befuddled, while Aizawa grumbles with a hint of interest.

"...This would be different."

Meowth on the other hand, seemed unbothered, picking his ear with a cackled grin. "Haha-! Boss could take you two losers on anyways, so I suppose it's fine!"

The shock and surprise that overcome the crowd were quickly dissolved, as excitement began brewing with every indication Bakugo had proposed. This...This would be different. An excitable change from how each finale every sports festival had so far. Midnight looked mildly taken back, looking back at Cementoss who shrugged a little. It was up to Midnight, the referee of this game, to decide. To agree with Bakugo's proposal, or not.

She hummed, putting a thin finger under her chin contemplatively. "...A 3-way battle? Is that it...?" She acted like she was thinking, but you knew she was just onboard with the crowd. "Alright-! I like it!" She gestured to the crowd again, and you could only watch with a hint of astonishment as she looks at the crowd. "Let's do it, a battle pitted against each other, our top 3 fighting for the top!"

And just like that, the decision was set. You could only hear the cheering crowd roaring through ears, their happiness and excitement so clear and visage. Todoroki's eyes shifted down to you, but you could care less. You felt your eyes shut tightly.

You're entering the finale.

Meanwhile with Drifloon...

Our wandering Drifloon sighed.

To be honest with you, balloons don't sigh, but Drifloon let out a puff of air so that's basically a sigh in balloon language. The Pokemon sighed so quietly that no one around it could probably pinpoint it as itself, and it's surrounded by a lot of people.

The festival isn't finished and there are still this many people wandering about in the booth areas? It was crazy. Drifloon let out a grumble, but it was knocked out of its thoughts as it was dragged forward again for the nth time today. Drifloon was forced to go along as the kid that captured it from before kept a tight hold on its strings, following wherever the child pleases.

At this point, Drifloon is surprise. It's been trying to move away with all its will: trying to get caught in a tree, flying away when the kid's hold loosened, or maybe even just getting conveniently pulled away by some other kid, but nope! This kid is a tough nutcracker! Not only did he jumped to the tree, but he would also jump up high to capture him before he could be one with the sky. And not only that, he definitely will not hesitate to fight another kid for it.

Of all things, it just had to be captured by a boy who could jump high, didn't it?

Quirks and their audacity! Drifloon thought in frustration.

As the kid pulls him across this wave of humans, it was beginning to get a little cramped, and Drifloon was getting tossed around with all the humans getting tangled in its strings. Whatever happened to that other Pokemon? The slime one? Is that dotted-eye daredevil still pretending to be a human?

For some reason, as it continued to bump into various humans due to the cluster, it felt itself able to fly off a little bit farther. Drifloon blinked, looking down.

There's no child's hand wrapped around its string. It's free.

Drifloon's happy musing was quickly admonished once it heard the angered shout. "Hey, get back here Mr. balloon!"

Oh, shoot, it's the kid from before, and he does not look happy. Kid crouched down, ready to jump after him but Drifloon knew this was its only chance to getaway. With that, Drifloon used all its might to float away, far away. It was now a chase, the kid jumping after him, jumping high to almost catch him, while Drifloon skirted away.

Hurrying away, Drifloon used the height to its biggest advantage, trying to reach the highest point in the sky as possible. And it was quite clear, that the kid couldn't keep up with the balloon forever. When Drifloon reached the glass building looking down to see the tiny human screaming at itself, Drifloon snickered.

However, Drifloon must have forgotten why it stayed low for a while.

Like that, from the corner of Drifloon's eyes, it saw an incoming thing heading its way. Once the balloon took a peek, the only thing he realizes was that it was big, it was orange, and its eyes were set right at him.

With a deranged screech only a balloon Pokemon could make, Drifloon rushed down hurriedly, avoiding catching the Dragon's attention once more, but that left it in a tight spot, as the kid saw it heading downwards. Why is the world against this poor Drifloon? Drifloon felt like crying.

But this time, Drifloon was going to make sure not to get caught. So what did it do?

It hid in a bunch of balloons.

Okay, sure, maybe not the smartest idea, but it was for the sake of blending in well! And sure some of these balloons look nothing like it, like this one balloon that looks like some weird glasses-wearing guy with really, really tall blond hair, why is it so tall? And this gigantic red-flaming fiery man with the sternest glare. But besides all the small stuff, Drifloon blended in well! Yes, it did!

Nonetheless, the kid that just happened to pass the balloon stand, looked around with scrutinizing eyes. He glared about, while Drifloon held its breath. When the kid seemed to be turning to stare at the balloons, it was sure it was going to die, this is it.

But then...

A loud flapping of wings caught the boy's attention, who shifted his attention to the sky. He cried. "Oh wow, it's the dragon!" And without any notion, the boy went off to chase Dragonite, who seemed to have gone closer down to inspect the area again, probably looking for Drifloon.

Drifloon could only heave a sigh. Finally, it was safe.

"And here you go, young man." Drifloon blinked when he was pulled down by the gruff hand of an older gentleman, smiling down at a young boy, scrawnier than the last, who beamed at Drifloon. The balloon shop owner asked. "You sure you don't want a hero type one? We've still got some All Might balloons!"

"No, I like this one!"

And just like that, Drifloon was once again pulled around the school, held by this time a happy-go-lucky child holding him closely. Darn it.

❧❧❧

It took a while! But I hope you enjoy! So if you haven't realized then, yes! We're going to have you, Todoroki and Bakugo pitted against each other! Surprise? Or did you all already assume that would be the case? Anyways, I hope you're excited! Seeing as the next chapter is going to be the last chapter talking about the Sports Festival! We made it! I know this chapter is a little shorter, but not to worry, the next chapter is a lot longer as it's our conclusion! However, the chapter after that is a little short, since we're concluding the 2nd arc.

Though I still am crazy about continuing on this story, I've come to a sad realization. Complex stories are fun, but the more you add things the more plot holes there are. Sometimes I get frustrated over things I've yet to put on published chapters that I had earlier planned to, it's just darn sad when I realize. This chapter wasn't my favorite, felt like there were a lot of plotholes and honestly, I suck at the side story of reader's uncertainty, but hey! Still learning process! I really, really wanted to input a more conflict side of the story, to give a little more depth to the reader's thoughts and what-not. Still felt like I failed in that, but at least I can understand what I should and should not be doing when I'm creating conflict.

Side note, writing the Z-moves...make me internally cringe. There's just something about it that makes me go 'Oh boy'. I have such a love and hate with it because on one side the little dances are kind of cute to see, but if I imagine myself doing them, Oh god no. It's actually one of the reasons why this chapter came out late, cause I had an especially hard time writing the z-move.

Putting aside the story for a while, I had earlier completely no idea Pokemon Snap came out! What have I been doing? Must've lived under a rock for a while there. Sadly, don't have the game, but I had a fun time watching the gameplay on youtube! It looks so cool! Just imagining a world that's completely inhabited by Pokemon! Exciting! Anyways, I've been keeping up with Bnha anime, even though I've read the manga, and I noticed that they switched up the arcs so far. I was sort of excited for the villains' arc, but since the movie is coming out I understand why they did that.

Alright then, I hope you'll anticipate the next chapter! I'm working especially hard to make this a fun and happy conclusion for the Sports Festival, before we'll finally move to the Internship arcs! See you then--!!
