"The who?" Selene questioned,

"The Light Legionnaires ," Their mother repeated, "We have much to discuss, I didn't know it was coming so soon I thought we had time." She absentmindedly walked into the basement living room.

The twins followed suit as she sat down,

"You have a lot of explaining to do," Sol stated bluntly,

"I know," Bella stated.

They sat there for a moment,

"Are you going to start?" Selene asked,

Bella inhaled sharply, "It all started the summer of 2020. It was July second, the last of my generation had just turned 16 on the 30th. It had a run in our family forever, we were all predestined to be apart of it, to be legionnaires.

We all knew it was coming, as soon as we all turned 16 you will be bestowed upon with the stones of our family. The light legionnaires is a group that protects a certain sector of the world from Shadow Demons. Hellbeasts under the strict guide of Satan himself, the two groups have been fighting for millennia.

Each in the beginning with a strict set of rules or codes that has been corrupted and destroyed throughout the years, to the point where the legionnaires are no better than the demons. I was given the purple Stone, that these stones are not just Stones they emit an actual ethereal being, a legionnaire is just a host.

With the stone you gain attributes like powers. In the beginning, everything was fine, we were living our lives fighting the shadow demons and protecting the greater civilization.

I had just finished my bachelor's in engineering, and I was for execution, accused of a treasonous crime. For this, I was thrown into hell, so I crawled my way out and started from scratch. I built myself into who I am today, I haven't seen them in 17 years. I don't ever want to see them again, but if it's for y'all's safety then I will risk it.

The legion believes the purple bloodline is dead, so they won't be directly searching for you but once the last child of this generation turns 16 the stones will reunite with their true successors. The stone will find you, and so will they. They will not only kill me, but you two as well if we are taken by force, they would never hurt children unprovoked." It sounded like a story adults told to scare children.

"What did you do?" Sol asked,

"I fell in love," She replied solemnly, that was the end of his questioning.

"So one of us will become a legionnaire?" Selene asked,

"Unfortunately, one of you has to." Their mother whispered,

They huddled together on the couch, sitting in strained silence.

"This is insane," Sol breathed.

"Tell me about it," Selene whined,

"We shouldn't just wait for them to find us, because if they are the ones who search you out I am definitely dead." Their mother mused, "Come, follow me."

She got up and went over to a painting. She took it off the wall, behind it was a hidden door. She opened it, inside were hilts without blades in varying sizes. A bronze shield was mounted on the wall with full Grecian body armor. In a glass case in the middle of the room was a ring, rose gold a beautiful diamond. Their mothers hand brushed the hilts, but only rested on a gun. Suddenly the door slammed behind them, and their mother said only one word.

"Lux,"

The weapons in the room came to life, hilts sprouted blades of pure light. The shields rim started glowing a bright white, as did the barrel of the gun she was holding. She turned to the twins.

"You will need to defend yourselves, pick something." She said, gesturing to the weapons.

"Nox," The lights went out.

"You're joking, we're sixteen!" Selene exclaimed,

"We'll be fine Lene, just pick something." Sol reassured, a hint of excitement in his voice, picking up a light broadsword along with a few knives.

Selene seemed to be drawn to the gun, she picked up another and it felt familiar in her hands.

Their mother nodded in slight approval to them strode across the room to the glass case. She carefully took off the protective glass and placed the ring on her finger. It was an engagement ring. The last gift she had from Axel, she was ready to face them again. She was not the same girl. She holstered her gun and told the twins to follow her upstairs.

"I want you all to pack your bags, we are going to D.C. we have some old family to visit. We are leaving tomorrow morning." Bella said, wondering if she made the right choice.

Bella went upstairs and packed her bags, she walked over to the safe inside were multiple stacks of hundred dollar bills. She stuffed a few in her suitcase. She placed a few knives in her bag for safekeeping. Finally she went to bed, the next morning she woke up. The twins were already packed and downstairs.

"Mom, I am so confused." Selene said,

"Me too," Sol added,

"I know, but everything will be explained soon." Bella replied, her voice wavered, "If your dad was here, we could protect you. I can't do much alone."

"You never told us what happened to him. Just that he died." Selene said quietly,

"I don't even fully know what happened to him, he might not even be dead. I just hope that one day I'll see him again." Their mother said softly, a single tear gliding down her face. She wiped it away harshly.

"We need to leave. The sooner the better." She directed, they began walking out the door but Bella held Sol back.

"Yeah?" He asked, she pulled him into a hug.

"Happy birthday Solstice, I love you." She kissed him on the cheek, they headed to the car.
