6. Declawed

"Hey, hey Bokuto look they have new toys!"

Akaashi tensed and looked to Oikawa and Sugawara, who weren't paying attention at all. He pulled Oikawa's sleeve and then Sugawara's. "What is it? You see something?"

Akaashi pointed to where Bokuto and his friends were. Suga chuckled.

"It's fine. He may come say hello and offer to buy us drinks but that's it." Sugawara yawned and leaned into Oikawa. "I could go for some drinks."

"You can always go for drinks." Oikawa rubbed his hair. "Idiot."

Akaashi frantically hid between the two and avoided Kuroo walking by. "Akaashi! Dude be chill he's not gonna hurt you!"

Kuroo looked over and grinned wide and happy. He looked like he would eat Akaashi in one bite. "Hey guys! You feeling better Akaashi?"

Akaashi looked to Sugawara, who was more confused than concerned. "Woah, woah calm down. I'm serious. He hasn't hurt anyone ever. Akaashi all of his friends are kind. I promise with my whole life that he won't hurt you."

Kuroo stepped forward, reaching out a hand. "Not even a mouse. I wouldn't dare."

Akaashi noticed the absence of his nails. Pink rested where the nail should have been.

Kuroo saw his stare and put his hands in his pockets. "Declawed."

Akaashi's heart ached for him. Being declawed was about the equivalent of having your wings torn off of your back for him.

Kuroo cleared his throat. "Bokuto's been looking all over for you. He wants to make sure you're not sick anymore."

Oikawa noticed Akaashi's lingering tension and spoke for him. "He's been doing really good. Only passed out once and can walk on his own."

Bokuto walked up and smiled at the group. "Hey, hey, hey if it isn't my favorite little moth! How are you feeling Akaashi?"

Akaashi stared up at him, becoming a bit annoyed with himself and the way he was being approached. Too loud.

"Ah wait are you not in the mood to talk-"

"Go away," Akaashi stated and slid behind Sugawara. Suga gasped.

"Akaashi Keiji!"

Bokuto chuckled. He tapped Akaashi with a wing. "I think you mean thank you but that was close enough."

Akaashi huffed.

Kuroo raised a brow. "From what Kens told me Akaashi was not tempered. Did we make you angry on accident?"

"He doesn't get angry but he does get very frustrated. He's probably embarrassed." Sugawara glanced back. "Don't be an ass."

Bokuto flapped his wings, still curiously staring at Akaashi's little pout. "I can fix something if I did something."

Akaashi just stared, nervous. He pulled a few coins from his pocket and handed them to Bokuto.

"Thank you." Akaashi kept staring until Bokuto grimaced. "Eh..."

Akaashi's brows lifted.

"You've got a wicked glare."

"I was not glaring!"

Oikawa and Sugawara both startled a bit. Akaashi yelling was rarer than him speaking.

"You were too, you jerk! I only said thank you!"

"I was not glaring! You would know if I was glaring at you!"

Kuroo chuckled nervously. "Alrighty then lets go Bo."

"No, no he's got all flustered because of me and gotten my lovely feathers ruffled. What's your problem with me?"

Akaashi stood still, hands clenched at his sides. He wanted to say sorry or scream or cry. Something. Anything. Nothing was coming to mind though and he just had to stand without any way of converting what he wanted to say.

Bokuto huffed. "What is up with you?"

Suga touched Akaashi's shoulder. "Come on. Apologize or something. You don't need to be stupid."

Akaashi pinched his fingers in a simple no before turning to walk off to go get something to drink. Bokuto followed him, standing taller amongst a lot of the crowd. "I'm gonna follow you until you say sorry."

Akaashi glanced behind him and just kept walking.

"Akaashi~"

Akaashi tightened his grip on his coat and walked faster. Bokuto just followed close behind, humming.

"You know owls have good smell. I can smell the fear on you."

Akaashi stopped walking and stayed still. Bokuto nursed him back to health but he also could have done literally anything bad to him while he was asleep and Akaashi wouldn't have noticed.

"You done pouting Mr. Moth?" Akaashi glared. He took a few steps towards a bench and sat down, waiting patiently. Bokuto crouched down and extended his wings to cover Akaashi. "Just letting you know, you can't just be rude without an explanation. If I make you nervous that's fine. Apparently I do that a lot. One thing I hate though is someone being rude to me and I don't know what I did wrong."

Akaashi avoided eye contact for a moment before sighing.

"Spit it out. Promise I won't get mad."

"I am worried... that you touched me."

Bokuto's brows raised. "Eh?"

"Inappropriately."

"Oh. While you were sick? Akaashi I only laid in the same bed as you to protect you and that's it. I mean I gave you food and meds but yeah I didn't do anything like that." Bokuto sighed. "I'm sorry I made you feel uncomfortable with me. I swear I was only trying to take care of you."

Akaashi nodded, fiddling with his fingers.

Bokuto stood and went back to Kuroo, leaving Akaashi alone. Sugawara went over to Akaashi and leaned down, patting his back. "You okay?"

"Mhmm."

Oikawa took Akaashi's hand and they went back to his home where they ate in near silence, Akaashi staring into space as he nibbled.

"Hey you're creeping me out. Is the staring because of earlier?"

"I am so ashamed."

"Why?"

Akaashi looked up and sighed. "I thought Bokuto took advantage of me. He didn't and he seemed very upset that I would suggest it."

Oikawa shrunk back as he cringed. Akaashi sent him only confusion but Sugawara just huffed. "Don't, you know he doesn't like people to know about it."

"Know about what?"

"Why Bokuto got so upset. He has this very special spot that makes him weak and worried for any sick person because of something that happened a few years ago," Oikawa stated, trying to be delicate with his words so as to not let anything slip. He had a huge blabbermouth that everyone shamed him for accounting for the amount of secrets he had spilled.

"Shut up!"

Akaashi set his bowl aside and tried to see if the secret would slip in their argument.

"Enough! Bokuto never talks about Anna and I'm not going to either! That poor girl doesn't need to be talked about!"

Akaashi tensed. A girl. What did any of this have to do with some girl?

Sugawara turned back to Akaashi and smiled. "Anyways how are you feeling?"

"Who is Anna?"

"No one. Are you okay?"

"Yes?"

"Great! I need to go home. I'm taking Oikawa with me." Suga stood and grabbed Oikawa's wrist, rushing him outside.

Akaashi sat at his table alone, in the quiet. He had messed up so bad and it was so awful. He yelled at a man who had been nothing but kind to him and then proceeded to try and pry into his secrets. On top of the he had stared at Kuroo's scars from his declawing.

Why was he so off lately?
