31. Splotchy Scales
Never before had Akaashi seen Bokuto crack under pressure like this.
One minutes Bokuto was a smiling mess, kissing Akaashi and wanting to go to dinner and the next crying and holding Yuuma. It had all happened so fast and no one had known what to do.
Bokuto had walked in the house and greeted everyone and gave Yuuma a hug. Yuuma had seemed fine, albeit a bit pale. Bokuto had been talking to Tendou about work and noticed Yuuma not feeling good.
Yuuma tried to get up to go to Bokuto but as soon as he stood he collapsed and Bokuto lost all control of anything coming out of his mouth. He hurried to scoop up Yuuma and put him flat on the floor, shaking with panic. Akaashi and Tendou both tried to get him to calm but he kept mumbling over and over.
Akaashi heard the whispers about Anna and realized that this was a panic attack and not just him worrying. "Kotarou. He may just have fainted from not eating much today. It's okay. He's always okay after he has issues."
"She always woke up too. She was always- she always- she woke up. But she didn't. She- I can't-" Bokuto tried to take a deep breath.
Ushijima leaned by him and put a hand on his back. "What is important right now is to remember your training. I know it's a struggle but he needs support."
Bokuto nodded. He shakily put a pillow under Yuuma's head and turned him on his left. Yuuma's eyes flickered open and Bokuto started to tear up. "Hey, hey, hey buddy. How are you feeling?"
"Needa poop..."
Akaashi leaned down to help him up and Bokuto quickly grabbed Yuuma. He took him to the bathroom and returned still trying not to cry. He held Yuuma on the couch for a minute or two before sobbing, holding him closer. Yuuma just sat there before turning, confused. "Why're you crying?"
"I'm just happy buddy."
"Oh yeah! I pooped good!" Yuuma grinned. He held Bokuto's face, grinning. "I pooped!"
Bokuto laughed. "Good job."
Akaashi leaned down and kissed Bokuto's temple. "How about we just go home tonight?"
"I don't know if he's really in that good of a condition," Tendou commented.
Bokuto shook his head. "I'm okay. I just-"
"You had flashbacks. I could see it. Please spend the night here, we have an extra room," Ushijima said. Tendou stood behind him.
"He's right. It may feel like we're being demeaning but we're in the same boat. I can't go places at least two days after things trigger me that badly. It's nothing to be ashamed of though."
Akaashi looked between the couple and Bokuto. "Kotarou, we can stay."
Bokuto gulped. "I..."
"Don't like talking about your trauma. Neither do I. You don't have to. All you need to do is eat and sleep it off." Tendou opened a door next to his room and gestured to it. "New comforters and pillows and everything. I'll even get a toy for Yuuma."
Yuuma whined. "What's going on?"
Akaashi lifted Yuuma slowly and held him on his hip. He went into the little guest room and talked with him about everything he could think of before Bokuto came in and stared at Akaashi. "Yuuma leave for a moment."
Yuuma pranced off and Bokuto sat on the floor, head in Akaashi's lap. Akaashi ran his fingers through his hair and feathers. "Talk to me Kotarou. I can't help if I don't know what's happening."
"You still love me even with everything going on, right?"
"Of course."
"Even if I have PTSD? It ruins everything for me. Even my job and friendships. I don't want you to leave me."
Akaashi lifted his chin. "I love you. That's all there is to it. I walked in your life and you won't force me out no matter how much you think I can't handle."
Bokuto nodded slowly. "You're not scared of me?"
"Not at all."
"Thank you." Bokuto put his head down, feeling heavier than usual. He felt so bad for making his little boy worry about him. Yuuma was all Bokuto needed to worry about. Never the other way around. That was his baby. His life. He couldn't worry him with things like that. "I want to hold him tonight."
"Okay." Akaashi rubbed Bokuto's back. "That's okay. Do you need a moment?"
"Just with you please."
"Got it." Akaashi rubbed his biceps and heard his crying as he tried to be quiet. He just wiped away his tears and didn't press on, knowing Bokuto was scared. He just wanted someone there for him and to love him. He likely thought he was too mentally unwell for love but Akaashi gave everything over.
He was just Bokuto, mentally unwell or not.
"Kotarou?" Bokuto didn't respond, relaxed against Akaashi's lap. Akaashi laughed quietly. He tapped Bokuto's shoulder. "Kotarou, would you like to lay down properly?"
Bokuto's wings fluttered. "Keiji? What? Huh?"
Akaashi eased Bokuto up and laid him down. "Relax. Go back to sleep, you're too tired to talk."
Bokuto sighed and turned onto his stomach, closing his eyes. "I love you."
Akaashi took off his jacket and handed it to Bokuto. "I love you too Kotarou."
Bokuto held it closer and it was almost as if he was trying to kiss Akaashi's head like normal. Akaashi just smiled at the action and played with Yuuma to get him to leave poor Tendou alone. Tendou did enjoy Yuuma but Yuuma was bothersome when it came to trying to help in the kitchen.
Ushijima just stood in the kitchen and watched, silent but still helping. Those two had obviously been together for a very, very long time so Akaashi didn't even bother asking to help or questioning why they worked so well. Ushijima seemed to be on hand and knee for Tendou and Tendou soaked it up.
It was cute.
"Kashi! Where's daddy?!"
"Daddy is sleeping lovebug."
Yuuma whined and squirmed before huffing. "Don't want him to sleep."
"He doesn't feel good."
"Ow! Fuck!"
Akaashi turned to see Tendou holding his hand. "Yuuma don't repeat that. What's wrong?"
"He cut his hand." Ushijima hurried Tendou to a different counter and less than a minute later he was fine again.
"That was fast."
"Ushijima has a history with fixing me up. He's gotten good. A lot of kitchen accidents."
Akaashi knew what he meant immediately. "Oh yeah that makes sense. Do you need me to step in your place?"
"Nah it's fine."
The guest room door opened and Bokuto stumbled out. Yuuma bolted and held him leg. "Daddy!"
"Hey bud."
Akaashi held out an arm and Bokuto sat next to him. Yuuma climbed on Bokuto and they both laid on Akaashi. Tendou noticed this and felt bad. "Hey Bokuto I'm gonna make you some tea to calm your nerves."
"I'm fine."
"Okay cool. I'm giving you tea still."
Bokuto groaned. Yuuma giggled. "Daddy's being weird."
"Daddy needs a drink," Bokuto mumbled.
"I can get water!"
Akaashi laughed. "You're so smart Yuuma."
Yuuma giggled and pat Bokuto's cheek. "Daddy is so silly."
Bokuto smiled. "Yuuma you are so cute."
"I need to poop."
Bokuto picked him up and took him to the bathroom. Yuuma was perfectly fine using the bathroom and washing his hands this time and wanted to play, desperate for attention. Akaashi tried to keep up the best he could on his own. Bokuto just stared, which made Yuuma whine.
"Daddy play with me! Please!"
Bokuto got up and eased to the floor. Tendou came in the room and sat down. "Yuuma I'm going to explain to you something super quick, okay?"
"Okay!"
"Sometimes, adults get super upset. It has nothing to do with you. Like at all. It just happens." Tendou set a hand on Yuuma's back. "It makes it really difficult for us to be able to be super happy and play and make us tired. Your daddy is pretty upset right now little man. I know you want to play but why don't you give him some love?"
"Daddy's upset?" Yuuma looked at Bokuto. "Daddy it's okay! I make it better!"
Yuuma gave Bokuto a hug and squeezed him tight. Tendou smiled, a hand over splotchy scales on his arm. "Good job Yuuma."
Akaashi noticed the scar tissue. Tendou saw the stare and his eyes lowered, darkening. He hated this.
Ushijima came up behind him. "Love?"
Tendou looked up. "Huh?"
"Are you feeling okay?"
"I'm okay." Tendou stood slowly and followed him to the kitchen. Everyone ate dinner and Ushijima was the first to go to bed. Yuuma ended up falling asleep in the middle of playing with Akaashi's hands, slumping back into him and sleeping peacefully. Bokuto carried him to bed and fell asleep with him, leaving Akaashi and Tendou to talk on their own. Tendou didn't talk at all, staring at his arm. He looked like he was in thought so Akaashi let him be.
"I... am gonna go to bed." Tendou looked up and gulped. "Sleep well."
Akaashi watched him get up. "Tendou? Are you okay?"
"I'm okay." Tendou went into his room and heard talking. Akaashi went to where Bokuto was laying and laid close by. Bokuto always found his way to him. Always.
