28. Tipsy With A Side Of Cheese
Bokuto glanced at Akaashi at the table and smiled bashfully, noticing the stare. Bokuto had been making sure that Yuuma's carrots and pasta weren't touching, knowing how picky he was. "Better?"
"Mhmm!"
Akaashi laughed, turning back to his plate. Sugawara tapped his arm. "Hm?"
Suga started to sign slowly, his hands a bit shaky. 'Who the hell is that kid?'
Akaashi rolled his eyes, signing quickly back. 'His soon to be son'
Kuroo glanced up, noticing the use of the language. Sugawara nodded. 'And yours I hope, you keep giving him fuck me eyes'
"Suga!" Akaashi blurted.
Daichi looked up. "What's he doing now?"
Suga gave Daichi a small smile, not feeling the energy to talk.
"Suga," Daichi warned.
Bokuto looked up from eating, confused. "Wait, what did he do?"
"He said something weird," Akaashi mumbled. Kuroo laughed, taking a sip of his water. "What?"
"Oh nothing, nothing."
Akaashi turned back to his food, trying to eat without something stupid happening.
"But I have seen you do it before."
"Shut up!"
Bokuto set a hand on Akaashi's knee. "Hey, woah. You good?"
"I'm okay." Akaashi pat his hand and kept eating. Yuuma whined. "What's wrong Yuuma?"
"Can't reach it!"
"Reach what moonlight?"
"My cup!"
Bokuto got a pillow, lifting Yuuma up and putting the pillow in his chair. As he was being lowered Bokuto's glass was pushed off the table by Yuuma's tail, shattering on the floor. Yuuma cried out.
"Oh no! Oh no!"
Bokuto set him down. "It's okay! It's okay!" Yuuma tried to get down to grab the cup, wanting to fix what he had done. Bokuto grabbed his hand. "Don't touch it. It hurts."
Yuuma whimpered softly. Kuroo looked over, gently touching the top of one of Yuuma's ears. "No need to get upset little man, this happens all the time."
Bokuto picked up the pieces of glass and wiped off the floor. Akaashi got him a new cup and noticed Yuuma still quiet, face red. "Yuuma, are you feeling okay?"
Yuuma opened his mouth before closing it, sniffling. Tears started to well up in his eyes and Bokuto darted to hold him immediately. "Hey, hey, hey. It's alright buddy. It's okay. Deep breaths."
Kuroo got up and found Yuuma's safety blanket, which had been one of Bokuto's old blankets. He leaned down and handed it to Bokuto. Akaashi moved to Bokuto's seat, wings fluttering slightly as he grew worried.
"Buddy, can you tell me what's wrong?"
Yuuma started to sob, leaning into Bokuto. "I have super big feelings! It feels really bad!"
Akaashi's wings went flat against his back, shaking. He got up and tapped Bokuto's back. "Let's bring him downstairs."
Bokuto lifted Yuuma slowly, thanking Kuroo for the blanket. He sat down on his bed and rubbed Yuuma's back slowly. "Easy, easy..."
Akaashi leaned down, taking one of Yuuma's hands into his. "Yuuma I know your feelings feel really bad. Sometimes I have really big feelings that make me feel bad. It's okay to feel like that. We need to figure out how to make those bad feelings go away though since it doesn't feel good to be sad, does it?"
Yuuma shook his head hurriedly.
Akaashi's eyes softened in realization. "Moonlight, are you able to talk?"
Yuuma shook his head again, this time tearing up again.
Bokuto kissed Yuuma's hair. "It's okay, it's okay. Deep breaths. There's no reason to feel ashamed."
"You wanna know something?" Akaashi got closer. "I also can't talk when I get upset. That makes it really difficult to tell people why I'm feeling bad and that can make it feel so much worse. But! There are ways we can help that!"
Bokuto nodded. "We can teach you and daddy will learn as much as he needs to help you out. Does that sound good?"
Yuuma nodded.
Akaashi smiled. "You're doing a great job of calming down. I'm proud of you."
Yuuma whined loudly, hitting his tail over and over on the side of the bed. Bokuto noticed this and patted his shoulder. "We can't be hitting our tails against things little man. It'll hurt. Instead of hitting our tail, we can tap our fingers together. Like this," Bokuto tapped his fingers together and smiled. "This one feels better. That way it doesn't hurt."
Yuuma tapped his fingers together instead, taking quick breaths.
Akaashi tapped his knee. "Hey, deep breaths. Deep breaths. Nice and slow." Akaashi took a deep breath. "It's okay. No one is mad at you."
"Did you think that daddy was mad at you?" Bokuto asked softly, covering Yuuma with his blanket. Yuuma nodded. "Ah. Yuuma buddy, you don't make daddy mad. You don't make Kashi mad either. Does he Kashi?"
Akaashi shook his head. "No, never."
"I know your mommy got mad at you a lot but we won't. I know it was just an accident. It's just a cup though. You are so much more important than a cup." Bokuto kissed his head, smiling. "My little man is worth more than anything to me."
Akaashi smiled. "All better?"
Yuuma sniffled, nodding.
"Still not able to talk?"
He shook his head, holding his blanket closer.
Akaashi pat his hand. "That's alright. Do you want to go back and try to eat again?"
He nodded and Akaashi stood. Bokuto stood carefully and shook out the wing Yuuma had been leaning against. Yuuma stared at Akaashi, his tail swinging back and forth slowly. "Mm..."
Akaashi glanced at him and smiled. Yuuma held out a hand and Akaashi tenderly lifted him out of Bokuto's arms. "Don't touch my wings please."
Yuuma nodded. He sighed heavily. Bokuto went up the stairs and Akaashi followed, sitting down at the table with Yuuma in his lap. He ate around him, holding him to his chest. He had his head covered in his blanket and no one at the table bothered him about it. Kuroo did whisper something to Bokuto, prompting him to get gauze and tape. He bandaged the middle of Yuuma's tail and kissed his head.
Eventually he started to stir and uncovered his head, pulling Akaashi's shirt.
"You ready to eat?"
Yuuma nodded.
"You want carrots or pasta?"
Yuuma started to panic, not sure as to what to do.
"Oh! I am so sorry." Akaashi set down his fork. "Put up one finger for carrots and two for pasta."
Yuuma held up one finger and Bokuto passed over his plate and fork. Akaashi gave Yuuma the fork and held him still as he ate. All of the carrots were gone soon enough and he sat there, looking around.
"Oh good boy. Do you want to try the pasta?"
Yuuma shook his head and pointed to Sugawara, who had never really seen before. Suga perked up and smiled. Now that he had food in his system he felt a lot better. "Hi buddy!"
Yuuma grinned. He waved back.
"I absolutely love your little tail. It is so pretty."
Yuuma turned to Bokuto, beaming. Bokuto grinned. "There's my little smile! Oh how very awesome!"
Yuuma giggled. Kuroo smiled. "Hey you wanna know something cool?"
Yuuma looked to him.
"I was also adopted."
Yuuma gasped. His tail flicked back and forth as if he were a puppy. Akaashi prayed this was the thing to get his nonvocal state to break, knowing how suffocating moments like this could be. "Isn't that awesome Yuuma? He's just like you!"
Yuuma giggled.
There it was. Akaashi relaxed. "How about some more carrots?"
"Carrots! Carrots!" Yuuma started to wiggle. "Carrots!"
****
Akaashi plopped down besides Bokuto, sighing heavily. "Finally."
Bokuto laughed. "He gets hyper after being upset. It's like his body is fixing itself and it's so cute."
"I dunno if it's cute when you almost get kicked in the face." Bokuto laughed, leaning over Akaashi. He grabbed a bottle and handed it to him. Akaashi sighed. "I needed this."
Bokuto nodded. "Just be careful, okay?"
Akaashi paused. "Are you sure you're comfortable?"
"I am! I promise! I'm just nervous!"
"I'm not a mean drunk, I promise."
Sugawara shuffled into the area and yawned. "Wait you're getting drunk?"
"Yep."
"Why?"
"Cause I want to relax."
Suga shrugged. He looked around.
Bokuto laughed. "Your room is the other way."
"Oh! Right." Suga walked off. "I'm not pulling him off of you when he starts getting horny!"
"Shut up Suga!"
Bokuto turned to Akaashi. "I'm guessing you're touchy feely?"
"Yeah..." Akaashi struggled with getting the top of his bottle off. "Shit."
Bokuto took the bottle and twisted the cap off easily. He handed it back to Akaashi. "Do you know your tolerance?"
"Three."
"Damn."
Akaashi laughed and sipped at the drink he'd been given, going ahead and getting snuggly with Bokuto. It wasn't embarrassing if he was already doing it.
Bokuto played with Akaashi's hair, reading with his other arm. Akaashi just kept going until he sighed. "I want to play a board game."
"I've only got chess and uh... yeah that's it."
"I can play chess."
Bokuto got up and got the board. He set it up and Akaashi started the game with him. Bokuto kept holding him close, practically getting him in his lap.
"Hey."
"Yeah?" Bokuto turned towards Akaashi. "Woah!"
Akaashi laughed. "It's just blush. It happens."
Bokuto touched Akaashi's cheek, which was almost as red as the felt on his chess pieces. "Oh Keiji..."
"It's fine, it'll go away for the most part in a second." Akaashi grabbed his other bottle, handing it to Bokuto.
"Are you feeling weird or anything?"
"My lips are a bit tingly but not the sick kind. I'm okay, I promise." Akaashi giggled softly. "I'm okay."
"You're tipsy!"
Akaashi covered his mouth, snorting. "Maybe."
"From one?!"
"Yes." Akaashi smiled and took the now open bottle, tipping it back. He set it down and moved one of his pieces.
Bokuto laughed. "You're fun at parties."
"Not when I'm giggling so hard I pee myself."
"Please don't pee yourself tonight," Bokuto half whined.
"I was blackout drunk. Suga told me what happened. It's the whole reason he and Daichi are together." Akaashi watched Bokuto take one of his pieces. "They were hooking up because they couldn't stop touching each other and I pissed myself. I walked in on Daichi on his knees and just dropped on the floor. Not a nice night."
Bokuto's head whipped around. "Daichi what?!"
"On his knees?" Akaashi took a sip from his bottle, fluttering his wings lightly. "Daichi's business, not mine."
"So you used to be into partying? You were that friend?"
"No. I was dragged to parties and fed drinks. It was weird."
"Oh ew."
"Don't worry I'm not friends with those people anymore." Akaashi leaned into Bokuto. He wanted to lay his head down on his lap.
"You okay lovebug?"
"Mhmm..." Akaashi looked up and smiled. "You're very pretty, you know that?"
Bokuto blushed. "O-oh."
Akaashi laid across his lap and couldn't stop staring. "Why don't your wings match your hair?"
"I have black hair naturally. Technically they match."
Akaashi gasped. "Wait."
"What?"
"Is your line black?"
"Eh?"
Akaashi pointed to his stomach. "The hair that goes up your stomach."
"Oh! Why?" Bokuto leaned forward a bit.
"Curious." Akaashi giggled. He turned and took another sip.
Bokuto ran his finger along the bridge of Akaashi's nose. He was adorable.
"I kinda want to step outside."
"Why?"
"I dunno." Akaashi laughed. "That would be funny."
Bokuto nervously watched him. Was he going to do something stupid?
"Kotarou."
"Keiji."
"I want. Bread."
Bokuto eased Akaashi up and went to the kitchen. Akaashi followed him with his bottle and sat at the table, swinging his feet. His wings were wide open and he was smiling, content. Bokuto turned. "Do you like cheese?"
"I love you."
Bokuto froze, inhaling sharply. Akaashi just smiled at him. "I... wow. Wow. Haha..." Bokuto gulped and set down the plate in his hand so as to not drop it by accident. "That wasn't a drunk thing? Are you drunk?"
Akaashi laughed quietly, tilting his head. "Just tipsy."
"Thank God."
Akaashi raised his brows. "You weren't planning on not saying it back, right?"
"I was planning on saying it back! I swear! You caught me off guard lovebug." Bokuto rounded the table and kissed his cheek. "I love you."
Akaashi grabbed his chin and kissed him. "I would love some cheese if we have it."
Bokuto practically melted into his hand, chuckling softly. He was so cute when he wanted to be.
"Aw." Akaashi held Bokuto around his waist, hugging him.
"This is what Suga meant? I can handle this." Bokuto kissed Akaashi's hair. "This isn't bad."
