27. Witness

Bokuto wiped his brow, sitting down. "Damn I didn't realize how many cobwebs were here."

Akaashi lifted a blanket and smiled. "Dolls."

"She loved them. They go in my closet." Bokuto leaned over and eased Akaashi into his lap, sighing. "Babe."

Akaashi turned and held on. "What's wrong?"

Bokuto kissed Akaashi's cheek. "You hungry?"

"Oh! No, I'm not." Akaashi kissed Bokuto's forehead. "We're almost done cleaning."

Bokuto put Akaashi down and removed the mattress from Anna's bed. Something fell out of it and he picked it up. Akaashi glanced at him as he picked up the box of dolls.

"What's that?"

"Drawings." Bokuto put the paper in his pocket and put the mattress in the hall. He put the box of dolls away in his closet and wiped down the walls and floor with Akaashi. "I think it looks decent."

Akaashi looked around the room. The room smelled of lemon cleaner and wood. Decent was an understatement. "It's lovely. Are we going to paint the walls?"

"I love Yuuma, but not enough to spend hundreds of dollars on paints." Bokuto shrugged. "The walls look nice."

Akaashi stretched. "Was that all for today?"

"Huh? No! Way no! This kid has tons of stuff." Bokuto peeked into the hallway before grabbing the new mattress. "Starting with the bed."

"I'll make the bed. You can put his clothes in the closet and then we can get the shelves put up."

"And the toy chest."

"Toy chest?"

"Yep." Bokuto smiled proudly. "The coolest little toys for my little man. He's gonna love 'em."

Akaashi nodded and dragged the mattress to the bed, easing it into place. Bokuto brought over a mattress topper and explained that it would help with Yuuma's back while he was sleeping. That poor baby whimpered when he didn't have the right pressure on his back and Bokuto always got so upset that his little one was in pain.

Akaashi made the bed completely before Bokuto stopped him when he was nearly done.

"I got him some special things. A caterpillar and a baby blanket. It'll fit him now but he can keep it."

Akaashi held both of them and smiled, hugging them. "This is so sweet." Akaashi set them on the bed and relaxed. "I need something to drink."

Bokuto nodded and set down the shirt he was holding. He led Akaashi to the kitchen and got him some juice and made him a sandwich, pampering him in any way he could. He stood next to him too, a hand on his lower back making slow circles. "You feeling okay?"

"I'm perfectly fine. Why?"

"I don't want you to pass out again."

Akaashi looked up. "Do I seem off or something?"

"You seem tired. I've got it from here. It's just toys and clothes."

Akaashi leaned into Bokuto and sighed softly. "You have no idea how much I want to go get him."

"You're cute." Bokuto kissed his temple. "So cute."

Akaashi kept leaning into him, yawning. "I've always wanted a family."

"Yeah?"

Akaashi nodded.

"I hope I'm helping with that."

Akaashi could only think to himself and hope that he lasted. Bokuto was a charmer and a sweet man. He took care of Akaashi. He gave Akaashi everything.

"Keiji?"

"Mhmm?"

"You're awfully quiet."

"I'm always quiet." Akaashi held Bokuto's hand.

Bokuto hummed. "Go get him lunch, I'll be in his room."

"Hey when is his adoption date?"

"February sixth."

Akaashi nodded. Next week. "Can I invite Sugawara?"

"Everyone is going to celebrate with us. I'm planning on showing him his room the night before so he feels especially at home and then in the morning we are gonna fill him up with pancakes and fruit and all sorts of stuff." Bokuto smiled. "And then at noon he'll be adopted. Just him and me... and you."

Akaashi startled and looked back. "I get to witness this?"

"Of course."

"Thank you!"

Oikawa walked in, Yuuma trailing behind him sporting a scarf and sunglasses. He smiled. "Hi daddy!"

"Oh my that's a nice scarf!"

Yuuma giggled and put his arms up. "Up! Up!"

Bokuto lifted him and kissed his cheek. "Whatcha want? Peanut butter jelly?"

"Ooh yeah! Peanut butter jelly!"

Bokuto laughed. Akaashi turned his head and smiled. "You should eat one too Kotarou."

Bokuto nodded and set Yuuma down. Akaashi went back to Yuuma's room and hung up his clothes. He set the play chest across from Yuuma's bed. There were little things that this room needed.

Akaashi grabbed his journal and wrote a quick note, taping it to the mirror. He went back to the kitchen to find Yuuma laying across Bokuto's lap, setting down for a nap. Akaashi leaned down and kissed his forehead and held his little hand in his own. "You feeling okay?"

"Mhmm..."

Bokuto kept running his fingers through Yuuma's hair. "Do you wanna go lay down?"

"Stay with you."

Bokuto chuckled. He sat him up and held him, rocking him. Yuuma held onto his wings, relaxing. Akaashi huddled up closer and set a hand on Yuuma's back. "Hey what happened with looking at his back?"

"He's gone inflammation from the tail pulling and very frequent constipation, which is new. Poor guy has to drink laxatives once every two weeks." Bokuto kissed Yuuma's forehead. "That's why we don't pull buddy's tail."

Yuuma backed up a bit and whined. "Needa poop."

Bokuto walked him to the bathroom and came back after a few minutes. Yuuma slept soundly for an hour and a half before going back to Oikawa, which meant the adults went back to the decorating of Yuuma's room. Lights were hung up and stuffed animals and toys were put up. Bokuto could do nothing but smile and laugh at his accomplishment and hold Akaashi. He loved that this room was being used again.

"We did a good job today," Akaashi commented.

"Yeah..." Bokuto looked over and smiled. "We should celebrate."

"Oh?"

"Do you want to go grab a beer?"

Akaashi tensed. Okay this was really happening. That was lovely. "Are you ready?"

"Yeah, yeah! I'm at home! You're here, at home. You're safe."

Akaashi nodded. "I want to wait until he's in bed."

"Got it. It's almost dinner time anyways."

There was a knock on the door and Bokuto peeked into the hallway. Oikawa gave him a short wave. "He's hungry."

"Perfect timing."

Akaashi squeezed past Bokuto and spotted Yuuma far down the hall. He hurried down the hall and Yuuma screamed, turning and running away. Akaashi gave chase and laughed at Yuuma's giggles. People poked their heads out of doors and laughed, grabbing at Yuuma until they got to the end of the hall. Akaashi scooped him up and turned him upside down.

"Kashi!"

Akaashi laughed and turned him upright, squeezing him. "How's your back?"

"It's only hurting a little bit!"

"Wonderful moonlight." Akaashi moved his hair from his face. "Your bath really helped, right? Oikawa told me earlier that you did it all by yourself like a big boy."

Yuuma smiled. "I did it."

"What do you want for dinner?"

"Lettuce!"

Akaashi fake gasped, walking down the hall. "No!"

"Aw."

Akaashi chuckled. He pat Yuuma's back. "How does pasta sound?"

"Ooh. Cheese pasta?"

"Sure." Akaashi spotted Bokuto. "Dinner is cheese pasta."

"Ah, ah think of a veggie," Bokuto stated.

"Carrots!" Yuuma screamed. Akaashi flinched from the yelling. Yuuma kicked lightly, now hyper. He was set down and he ran to the kitchen with Bokuto. "I wanna put the pasta in!"

Bokuto pulled up a chair and poured water in a pot. "Keiji! Go tell everyone I'm getting dinner ready!"

Akaashi turned and bumped into Oikawa. Oikawa laughed. "Hey!"

"Hey."

"Are you and Bokuto doing good? I heard you guys giving Yuuma a bath a few weeks ago. It was so sweet."

"Oh yeah. He usually needs help. I'm glad you helped him out." Akaashi smiled and tried to pass by him.

"Also I heard something about alcohol. Bokuto gets really nervous about it and especially after the accident I don't know how he'll react-"

"Were you spying on us?" Akaashi interjected. He stepped back. "The door was closed when he told me I was allowed to drink."

"Ah I just wanted to make sure you knew-"

"My business- no. OUR business is none of your business. Nothing about what we do is for others to be involved in. Do not spy on us again." Akaashi walked down the hall and found Daichi. "Is Suga going to wake up for dinner?"

"I can try to wake him up to eat. What's for dinner?"

"Cheesy pasta. Yuuma wanted it. And carrots."

"Suga needs protein, he's been a little weak lately." Daichi glanced back into the guest room where Suga was laying in bed, sleeping soundly. "I don't know if it's the exhaustion or not."

"I can go get Bokuto?"

"Please?"

Akaashi found Bokuto in the kitchen tossing Yuuma lightly and playing with him. "Kotarou? Can I see you for a moment?"

"Huh? Sure!" Bokuto set Yuuma down. "Stay here."

"But all by myself!"

"No!" Bokuto turned towards the hall. "Someone come watch Yuuma for me!"

Iwaizumi walked in and scooped up Yuuma. "I'm drawing kid, come help me out."

Yuuma giggled. "I draw fish!"

Bokuto followed Akaashi to the guest room. "What's going on?"

"Daichi said Suga's been really weak while he's been awake. It may not be exhaustion either."

Bokuto nodded, brows furrowed. "Okay. Is he awake right now?"

"No."

"I'll wake him up and we'll go from there. Thank you for telling me." Bokuto rubbed Akaashi's back before knocking on the door and entering the room.

Daichi looked up and awkwardly smiled. "Thank you Akaashi."

"It's no problem." Akaashi went to look for Yuuma, hearing his giggles through the house. Oh how lovely it would be to hear those all the time.
