Ch.1 Young Mikey

Utah 1917.

Two boy scouts wandered through a cave to explore, having strayed away from their group. The first boy scout appeared hesitant but the other was thrilled.

"I don't think this is such a good idea, Mikey," the first boy scout whispered fretfully.

Mikey grinned before hearing other voices from within the cave. They weren't alone. He grabbed the other boy as they traveled into an open path where the voices seemed to be coming from. Mikey's eyes widened as he saw grave robbers looting.

"I got something, Jack!" One of the robbers called as he brought the said person a box.

The man, presumably named Jack, opened it and took out a mini clay statue that was broken. Jack grinned as he held it up and the robbers began to cheer.

Mikey took off his hat to reveal his blonde hair and baby blue eyes, he appeared to be only twelve. Mikey glared at the robbers and the possession. He knew exactly what it was they had.

"Mikey? Mikey? What are they doing? Michelangelo?" Mikey quickly shushed the boy scout so they wouldn't be caught. He put his boy scout hat back on.

"They have a broken clay statue from ancient Japan, it's proof of that time period, it was a gift to Sensai Hu," Mikey explained quietly. "It's an important artifact that belongs in a museum." Mikey turned to his friend. "Run back, find the others, and tell Mr. Mick to get the sheriff."

"Right. But what about you?" The boy asked.

"Don't worry, I'll figure it out," Mikey grinned.

The boy scout ran out of the cave, leaving Mikey alone. As soon as the robbers were distracted, Mikey climbed down and grabbed the statue, stashing it in his pocket. He began climbing back up using the rope but he missed a step causing a crack. This immediately grabbed the grave robber's attention.

"He's got the statue!" One of them shouted.

Mikey heaved himself back to the edge and ran out of the cave.

"After him!"

Mikey burst through the opening of the cave, looking around for his group.

"Mr. Mick?! Anybody!" Mikey shouted, only to receive silence as a response.

"Everyone is lost except me," he murmured.

"There he is!" A voice exclaimed from behind.

"Oh shell," Mikey muttered as he ran through the dirt.

He whistled for his buttercup. She ran to him and Mikey jumped on her and began riding her. The robbers chased after him in cars as Mikey rode his horse towards a circus train. He jumped aboard and climbed into the retail cart with the robbers hot on his trail. They tried to grab his foot as Mikey climbed over snakes and other dangerous reptiles. The support pillars bowed under his weight and collapsed causing Mikey to fall in. He screamed as he found himself in a crate of snakes. He scrambled out of the box, his hat falling off as he ran out of the cart. Mikey squirmed, throwing a snake out of his shirt. Mikey panted as he tried to get over the shock. One of the robbers tackled Mikey, throwing him off and surrounding him. Mikey saw an incoming rope and hopped onto it, swinging back onto the top of the next cart. Mikey smirked until Jack suddenly appeared in front of him. Mikey fell back, trying to crawl away.

"Come on kid, there's no way out of this." He had no intention of hurting Mikey, he just wanted the clay statue.

Mikey fell to another cart and he found himself in a cart with a real living lion. Mikey's eyes widened as the lion stalked him. Mikey jumped up and backed against the wall, where a chain whip was hung. The lion roared at him and Mikey swiftly grabbed the whip, hitting it down and causing it to come back up and hit him across the face, he could feel blood trickle down his cheek. Mikey made his way closer to the lion, whipping him to drive him away. Mikey grabbed the statue from the ground.

"Toss up the whip!" Jack shouted from above him. Mikey tossed it up and Jack pulled him back up to the top of the cart before the lion could pounce on him.

"You got heart kid, but that belongs to me," Jack said.

"It belongs to Sensai Hu!" Mikey yelled back.

"Sensai Hu is dead! And so are his grandchildren."

"Then it should at least be in a museum," Mikey declared as he wiped the blood from his face.

"Give it back!" One of the robbers shouted as he tried to pry the statue from Mikey's hand. A snake in his sleeve slithered onto the robber's arm causing him to jump back. Mikey ran into the magic cart and hid in the box. Jack quickly following.

"Alright kid, out of the box." The box fell apart but there was no Mikey.

"Son of a bitch!" Jack shouted as he pried open the cart door.

He sees Mikey running on the tracks as he finally escapes. "Damn!" Jack cursed before cracking a smile at Mikey's cunningness he even felt a twinge of pride.

Mikey ran home, quickly slamming the door shut behind him.

"Dad!" Mikey called, running past his dog Sparky, who yipped happily.

"Dad!" He entered his father's study, excited to show him what he got. Mikey's father was named Hamato Yoshi. Mikey held up the statue proudly.

"Not now," Yoshi said as he continued writing in his journal.

"It's important," Mikey informed him.

"It can wait, count to twenty."

"No dad, listen!"

"Michelangelo!" His father's voice rose.

Mikey sighed and began counting.

"One, two, three-"

"In Japanese."

Mikey huffed and did as he was told. Mikey then saw the sheriff's car outside the window. He made his way to the living room as the boy scout blew the horn. Mikey pulled it away from him. "I brought the sheriff!" He cheered as the sheriff walked in.

"Just the man I wanted to see. There were men robbing the cave,"Mikey quickly explained.

"It's alright, do you still have the statue?" The sheriff asked.

"Yeah," Mikey responded, handing him the statue.

"Good because the owner of this statue won't press charges if you give it back."

"What?" Mikey started in shock.

As if on cue, the robbers from earlier entered the house.

"They witnessed you stealing it."

"But- they were the robbers!" Mikey snapped.

"The owner of that staute owns that land."

Mikey looked out the window to see a Japanese man in a black suit waiting. He was the owner of the staute. The sheriff gave the statue to one of the robbers, he cheered as they rushed outside, soon followed by the sheriff. Mikey stood there, stunned. Jack walked up to him. Giving him an proud smile.

"You lost today kid... but that doesn't mean you have to like it," Jack said as he placed his cowboy hat on Mikey's head. Mikey lifted his head, feeling a new sense of pride.
